Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hope On for the review, Ave said that you were
anxious to get in the game, just get some of
the contact, kind.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Of go good.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
You know, I was just definitely anxious, you know, especially
coming back to camp since I got back, got through
a league injury needs being good and you know, I
think a big thing for me, which is making it
through a whole week and uh, traveling with the team Wednesday,
practicing Thursday, doing the walkthroughs and everything, and then just
being able to finish out the week in the game.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
So I think that was a great thing.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
I definitely had to try to convince all the coaches
staff to let me out there, but it was cool and.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
That that you kind of even begged him at a point,
what did that conversation look like.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
I think it was a lot of pressuring all week
leading up to that. You know, I definitely sat on
the sideline and a high anticipation the week before for
the Cleveland game and didn't practice, so you know, I
to get back out there was awesome.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Has it been just to be patient and just to wait.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
For that That week's been It's been a long nine
months to say at least, so just you know, just
to know what it to to get back to this
point and then being able to just you know, enjoy
the moment.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
I got to enjoy it for three plays and wasn't
as good as you hope, I guess the.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Little tea out there, But uh, you know, I'll take
you what I can get.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
When you all saw or found out about Scorting and
what happened to him.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Uh so you know, everybody felty cramped, and you know
we've we found out kind of like later in the
locker room, so you know, we found out he was
already headed BA to Charlotte at that point. So I mean,
you know, just definitely, you know, reach out to see
how he's doing.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Dad talks about wanting to get you guys prepared from
like a routine standpoint of like going to sleep knowing
you're gonna play all that stuff. How much does that
factor into the mental side of the game on game day?
Speaker 3 (01:46):
I think for me a lot, Like I kind of
like being in the same routine leading up to the game.
You know, I feel like I having away routine and
the home routine and just being able to you know,
kind of phasing facing through the night and go to
bed or you know, sit up and watch TV and
just kind of turned the phone off at a certain
time and you know, kind of get ready for that
Sunday morning. You know, that's all I really care about it,
be honest. So you know, callin taken h my family
(02:09):
and then h you know, I'm sitting there. I might
watch here for a little while, I might go to
bed and then you know, get ready to My mind's
fully focused on Sunday. So somebody that that is so
lockdown a routine like that last year must have been.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
To lose that routine out, How tough was that for you?
Speaker 2 (02:23):
How I sucked? To be honest, it did. It was awful.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
You know.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
I had to watch a game at home at first
until I could start walking again, and that was awful,
And spent a lot of time on am My TV.
But uh, other than that, you know, it was it
was great. I think I I just truly take everything
from that at that adversity of you know, the injury
last year, and you know, it just makes me appreciate
the game so much more.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
No, he's taken a lot of pride and playing a
lot of snaps high percentage. How hard is it being
managed on your way back knowing that's what you want
to do.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
It's very hard, you know, especially coming back into it,
you know, kind of just having it, you know, have
a certain percentage going into the days.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I mean, it's been really hard.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
You know. I always want to just push myself to
you know where practice is so hard that you know
I'm about to pass out. So you know, that's one
of those things where you know, I think I've learned
to just you know, right now this moment.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
I mean, they haven't steered me straight.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
So I mean, I'm gonna keep falling the plan and
you know we're gonna go from there. Definitely push myself
right now to get back in shape, be able to
go to go and you know, it's just been it's been.
I don't know, man, I just think it's crazy, you know,
to go from being nine ten weeks now non weight
bearing and then trying to walk again, and then getting
to the point you can run, and then starting trying
(03:37):
to build your stamming up.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
I mean, it's it's tough. Cycled.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
I was gonna say, is there less pressure on you
to play those high war clothes like you have in
the past based on the guys had brought in this offseason.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, I mean I always want to be on the field, though,
you know how you hang around for a little while
in the league, so I always want to be on
the field.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
But you know, it's gonna be up to the coaches.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
You know.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I think there's a planning in place right now, so
you know, I'll play as much as hopefully it's a
it's a three quarter plan and you know if the games,
I'm lining the fourth quarter to kind of let me
burn up a little bit, So we'll see.
Speaker 7 (04:09):
We know about the physical component, but there's also a
mental component from coming back from that kind of injury.
How have you kind of overcome that that maybe the
mental trepidation that comes with that.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I think I kind of passed that this summer, just
reloading that leg, constantly putting, you know, waiting to it. Then,
you know, when I came back on the first day
of practice and he was going against Damian and you know,
kind of moved a little bit, but then I like
put the leg in the ground and I was like,
it works. So you know, that was kind of one
of those moments where I was like, all right, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
So I haven't thought about it since then.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
You Auburn guys stick together. What did you think of
Auburn retiring Cam Newton's number today?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
That was awesome. You know, Cam's one season.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Everybody says it's just one season, but man, it was
a legendary one, especially when down on the planes. I
know how the school you know, definitely has you know,
changed the moments that he made and led to school too.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
So you know, I'm ready to celebrate that with him.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Derek, you mentioned watching the game from the sideline and
at home. Ashan Robinson took on kind of like the
front of the heavy snaps last year and he stepped
up as a leader. What have you seen from him
in the locker room and what is he like as
a teammate.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
You know, we always mess with him because he's the
old guy in the locker room. He's thirty plus, so
you know, it's one of those guys that you know,
he's like, you know, every single day.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
He's getting work done and all this stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
And you know, I told him, I'm like, I understand now,
like it's been a fight to get back and I
told you, I told you, so, you know, just I
think having his you know, I would say, like experience
to be able to share with us.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I mean it's been great.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
So having him in the room, you know, asking him questions,
doing all this you know, extra stuff.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
I mean, it's just great. He laughs and jokes with us.
So I mean it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
So, like you said you wanted to get out there,
what was it you were wanting to most see, Like
did you want to go through process of getting ready
and getting on the game.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Did you need to.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Get a hit out of the way, Like what were
you looking to get.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Out of Saturday.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I think just finishing the week and being with the team,
you know, being able to go out there and start
the game with the team, go through warm ups, and
you know, get back to get back in the flow
of things, because I mean, I think we want.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Two weeks from Jacksonville, two three weeks.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
So I mean really that was you know, the last
opportunity we'll get to play, so you know, this week
coming up pit and then it's onto the you know
what counts. So you know, I think that was.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Just what I was looking for.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I wanted a full week to be able to just
put my body through it and then be able to
go out there and you know, still be able to execute.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
So as a leader.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
As a leader on the team, one of the ways
you've always been able to impact.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
The chemistry of your unit has been with your play.
With the reduced play, right now, what have you been doing.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
To help to influence that chemistry because you have as
you you know, building a group. I wouldn't even say, like,
you know, I think the reduced play came from you know,
the BLAQE injury. But I mean, like, nah, I've been
back in I mean, I spent a lot of time
in practice. So last week that's Thursday, so you know,
definitely a test my heart rate out that day. So
you know, I think for me, it's just learning the
(07:15):
guys around me, right, So being able to affect them.
You know, sometimes I take crazy shots and you know,
they save me. Sometimes they take a shot and I
gotta save them, and you know, just being able to
have that chemistry from when the ball turns over. I mean,
I think that's been a that's been a huge part
of the success that I've been able to have. So,
I mean, to be able to get that down and
then be able to you know, sit and sit in
(07:35):
the film room with those guys and watch what's going on.
You know, watch it live. I mean, I think that's
that's a huge part of it. That chemistry is literally
the only thing that leads to the success in any
of them.
