uh fought thirteen forty.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
You started your presser by telling us that you'd rather
go by Nalo or T Mac.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
A lot of other.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
People call you tet Why specifically.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Do you not want to be referred to as Ted?
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, uh so you know, my my mom can be
the one to tell you, oh, because they need him
tetato all. So, so it's either tetatle all t Mac
or I called him Carbella, which is disappointing.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Oh thank you rebellic.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah, or Nala's fine too, NAO's fan. We didn't know
if Nala was more.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
For like we're from We're We're we're originally from Wamanalla.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yeah, T Mac.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
Just how has the past twenty four hour or uh
twenty hours or so?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Then? Yeah, man, it's been surreal just getting that phone call,
walking up on stage, putting the hat on, to you know,
flying in this morning, to Charlotte. It just feels surreal.
And I'm just you know, I'm super grateful, super blessed
just to just to be in the position I am,
and and I'm so thankful.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Dash Tya heard what Carolina Blisz.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Were there any players who were down there to welcome
you when.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
You came in today?
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Uh? Yeah, I say up the Brice. I was just
like catching up, you know, just happy for each other,
you know, uh, finally get to be teammates and looking
forward to with the with the future holds.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Teammate back here Cam Gaskins with wb TV here and Charlotte.
Obviously this team taking you in the top ten, they
view you as a weapon for this offense. I'm just
curious in your talks with the coaching staff in front office,
how did they sort of explain to you what your
role is going to be and what they think this
offense will look like with you and the bold.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Shoot. I mean, like I said, they took me in
the top ten, so I see they see potential in me.
They see that, you know, I can be a guy
to help him turn it around. And you know what,
what whatever it takes to for for this team to
be successful, I'm willing to do whatever. So whether it's
playing inside outside, whether it's taking a year off and
(02:19):
learning from the vets, or whatever that may be. I'm
a I'm all in Temac.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
What was it like this morning getting here? And having
a welcome in.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Oh yeah, I mean it was super far. I was
here I want to say, roughly two weeks ago, so
just being able to just reconnect with everybody, meet some
new faces. You know, at the end of the day,
it's gonna be home, so I gotta get acquainted with everybody.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
Beating to keep pounding drum for the first time.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Uh, you know what, I didn't know how hard I
was supposed to hit the drum. I probably hit a
little too soft, but uh, you know it was good.
You know, just hearing the fans just again, I'm going
just interacting with them and keep pounding.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Do you think, uh my cage from the Charlotte Deserver.
Something that's brought up a lot with your route running
is how smooth you are as an athlete. How a
where do you think that comes from? You know, perhaps
another sport or just naturally think from how you've kind
of grun.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
In a position.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, I think a lot of it has to do with,
you know, playing multiple sports growing up, Uh, whether it's baseball, volleyball, basketball,
just doing different movements, angling my body at different angles,
body control, and as well as you know, the coaching
that I had growing up. You know, I've been able
to play at such a high level at each level,
so you know, all the coaching has been elite, and
(03:40):
you know, it's a huge testament of the player I
am today. For sure.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
What positions did you play in those other sports?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Which one specifically I played third base and shortstop?
Speaker 5 (03:53):
General Horwitz from Gasiting or what would you say you
bring to the table and what would you say to
the people that question your speed on the field.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Shoot, I feel like, you know, I bring just good
energy to the locker room. I feel like I'm a
guy that can add add to the culture that they
have laid over here and ultimately be the guy that
you know other people will play for and the guy
that will play for them. But as far as the
speed goes, you know, playing in the game is a
lot different. But I can tell you I'm not I'm
(04:24):
not slow.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Michael said for CHERYLD Sports Life, what athletes and other
players have you, you know, styled your game after and.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Why, shoot, there's nobody in particular that you know I'll
style my game after. Obviously, you know my favorite player
growing up was Larry Fitzgerald. But I wouldn't say I
try to copycat him. I just kind of wanted to
be my own player, be my own person, and you know,
try to be as great as I possibly can be.
It was a video that came out from a podcast
(04:52):
a while ago that where you said that you didn't
watch film.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Did you want to clarify those remarks?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
I mean, yeah, that was for my freshman year of
high school. I definitely have grown, have definitely matured since that.
You know, I feel like I wouldn't be here in
front of you all to day without loving this game,
without watching films. So yeah, that was my f That
was just dumb, young and dumb freshman me. I definitely,
(05:19):
you know, mature from that for sure.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Y Uh, high school or college college?
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Yeah, tem a chill person with the athletic.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Did you as you went on your.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Thirties, did you have a bunch of teams asking you
about that and including.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
The Panthers as far as that question goes, Oh yeah,
it was a hot topic for sure.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
How did you respond the.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Same way I just responded to.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Y'all at the combine when we talked to you said,
people kind of sleeping on your versatility. What do you
say to him now and what do you think about
playing on the odds out, I said, Xabriel or maybe right, Uh,
we're dealer cover blank.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Oh. So you know at the time I said that, obviously,
you know, I was just trying to get my point across.
But you know, I finally found home and and it's
here in Charlotte, So you know, I'm looking forward to
just being in that receiver room, playing alongside whoever that
may be, catching the ball from Bryce, having one on
one battles and practice with JC Horn. I mean, man,
(06:27):
I'm just I'm just I'm just so excited to be here. Man.
Like I said earlier, this is home, man, and I'm
looking forward to it. Talk to x or Adam uh No,
I met them in my thirty visit, but as far
as today now, I haven't seen me yet.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
T back Mike's Lark the Spectrums ones. Do you owe
Rice Young and players speak for talking you up to
Panther brass draft you.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Uh, I'll take him out to dinner.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
How How critical though, is that relationship for you? Because
you talked about it a little bit last night. Yeah,
and when it takes and this feels like the two
of you are bonded even though you're a couple. Of
years apart.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Made Yeah, I mean, we're both from Kelli, got a
chance to play against each other in high school. Just
been seeing each other's growth as far as man and
football players, and you know, just as a receiver. You know,
it's it's a compliment to have a quarterback that trusting
you already, and you know, at the end of the day,
(07:26):
I still got to come in here and earn his
respect and his trust. But you know, he believes in me,
and that's all I need in my quarterback alex.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Xactly with the Charlotte Observer, Sorry for not interest myself earlier.
You're the sixth Hawaii born player to get drafted in
the first round of the NFL Draft.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Did you know that?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Firstly, I didn't. I appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
As you're absorbing that. What does that.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Mean to you?
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Oh, I mean, yeah, that's fire obviously. You know, I'm
here today because of the Polynesian players that came before me.
You know, at the end of the day, they they
laid the foundation and set the presidents for me to
be where I am today, for me to be successful
in this game. So you know, at the end of
the day, I'm a reflection to all the people came
before me, So I mean as a proud honor. I
(08:14):
mean I said on the stage, like, man, I'm just
trying to make the pies and people proud, and you know,
I'm happy that I can be a reflection of our culture.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
Man, CARBONI from the w c S Charlotte. You're coming
here to play for a head coach that is a
former college receiver and wide receivers coach himself. What's kind
of been your impression from talking to him over the
last couple of weeks of his excitement to add you
to your offense.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
I mean, yeah, I love him. Just when I first
met him at the at the combine to thirty visits
to today, he actually shout out him he gave me
his leg. But yeah, I mean he he's also another
callie kid from Carson. You know, we joke about, you know,
bleeding blue, and we definitely bleed in blue now. But
(08:59):
I'm super excited to play for him. Man, He's he's
a he's a great dude. I know he'll be a
great coach and uh just ultimately be just a a
a good role model, good father figure for me.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
What don't mean to get that from him today?
Speaker 3 (09:12):
That lay.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Oh yeah, we exchanged legs. You know, I had to
lay him to he also did did it for me,
So we already got a little chemistry going on. I
guess be back.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Uh why you work for in Arizona? And uh the
number four in Arizona? And do you plan to weard
in that year an episode? What is for medium?
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Honestly, Uh, I I wore four in high school just
cause my number got taken, so I had nothing. I
was like, that's the next best option. And as far
as you know, we're in the number here, you know,
I don't know. We'll see what happens.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
What was the number of four that you wanted?
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Eleven?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I think the new ESPN dot com.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
What separates you from any other receiver head on those team?
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Uh, I'm not gonna.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
As see, Mack. What did you know about Charlotte before
you got here?
Speaker 1 (10:09):
You know? I I actually I I learned that they
don't call it downtown, they call it uptown. So s
so that that's the one thing I love for show.
I'm gonna just go with that one. So like I
got some brownie points for saying that.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Learned that?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Did you? I mean, was that something that you found
out on the ride here or a little Bertie.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Could you, uh maybe expand on what you told.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
Us last night about those those workouts with Bryce or.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
The throwing sessions, Like did he invite you to meet
him there? Like how did that kind of happen? And
I know it's a place where a lot.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Of guys train.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Yeah, would you take us kind of through how that
got set up and what that was like?
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Shoot, to be honest, yeah, thought, uh Bryce changed at
three DQB. They got a lot of that's a good
little quarterback little thing going on over there. And I
see my my college quarterback, no for fear that he
he trains over there, and I just so happened to
be We just so happened to be in Cali at
the same time, and I pulled up to just get
some work in with TJ and uh just catch the ball,
(11:13):
and you know, Bryce is there. I was like, man,
let's get it on.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
For several days that week or a couple.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Of weeks or you know. Unfortunately it was only one day,
but now we got a lot of days coming up.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
What you.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Shoot, Well, I'm gonna go home to Hoy just spend
time with my family, just enjoyed, brace it all in.
But I mean, I I after this weekend, you know,
it's we gotta get to work. You know, I know
Rookie Munti campus and two weeks from yesterday. But you know,
the the the grind stars. Now you know, it's only
the beginning. And shoot, I'm ready to I'm ready to
(11:59):
get that fill
