back. Right, you've bounced arounda little bit. You play a little

(00:49):
defense in your career as well, but you're gonna be running back for Kentucky
this year. What was your journeyto Lexington? How'd you end up here
this season? Just ended up herethis season just from an opportunity that was
presented to me, just to reallycome in here be the future guy.
And uh just followed the great lineageof Kentucky running backs. Is that pressure?
Is it good pressure because there's beena lot of guys that have had

(01:10):
a lot of success. No,it's not, it's not any pressure.
It's just it's just me. Ifeel like it's my coming out party.
I feel like I get to reallyshow what I can do as like a
feature guy. And you know,I always kind of felt like I've been
like an SEC back a little bit. So you know, I'm excited to
really show the world what I couldreally do. What is an SEC back
in your mind? Just like ajust like a bigger you know, just

(01:32):
like a bigger dominant back, youknow that can you know, give you
a little bit of everything, power, speed out the backfield, just a
little bit of doing it all.So, yeah, what was it about
Kentucky? Because you probably could havegone to other SEC schools as well as
an SEC back. But why didyou want to be in Lexington? You
know, just from you know, just staff Coach Morrow and Coach Stoops,

(01:53):
you know, them being Ohio guys. You know, they came at me
pretty hard and just you know, presented the opportunity self. But you know,
also when you have like guys likethat from northeast Ohio that you know,
just kind of try to keep thosegroup of kids together. It definitely
means something and it definitely just speakson the family atmosphere here at Kentucky.
So it was definitely grateful and appreciativeof them for this opportunity. But it

(02:15):
was definitely definitely from a recruiting standbase, you know, Kentucky was was
comfortable with me. So what isthat process like once you put your name
in in the transfer portal? Thistime, you know, same, It
was a little bit of the sameas how it went my first time.
You know, you get your schoolsthat hit you up, but you know,

(02:36):
you know there's always some certain culchesthat you know, you just always
you just feel comfortable with right offthe back. So yeah, it's just
you know, comfortability and just youknow, filling out process, you know,
and just really you know, goingwhere you wanted. I feel like
you're in those Those are all wordsthat get used for coach Marrow. What
is it about him that makes himhave so many good relationships, specifically with

(02:58):
guys from your area. I feellike, just you know, just being
real and just being transparent about everything. But not only that, but just
you know, just looking out forthose guys with that area, you know,
whether that's bringing them here or justyou know, using your connections elsewhere,
but just you know, iys justlooking back to paying help in hand.
So you Akron, Yeah, whatwas it like? What was it

(03:20):
like growing up for you? AnAkron? Going on? For me?
And Acron was cool. Football wasmy outlet definitely to let me, you
know, let out play with someof my emotions that you know, frustrated
me. But football was definitely myoutlet. And you know, and once
I really found out, everything juststarted to you know, skyrocket from there.
So when was the first time yourealized that you had the chance to

(03:43):
play D one football? Like whendid that kind of click in your head?
You know, it's so crazy, like it never really clicked. I
was just always just somebody that wasjust out there having fun. You know,
you dream of like having scholarships andall that stuff. But you know,
I wasn't really too heavy on itbecause I really I wasn't a camp
guy either. I didn't really goto a lot of camp so like I

(04:03):
was just really I just let myon the field ability show. And then
when my first office came. Myfirst offer was Ohio State, and then
it was Notre Dame later that day. It was it was kind of like
it was that was really the eyeopening moment for me. It was like,
oh, oh damn all right nownot as ball rolling okay? And
when that happens, did does didit lock in more? Or how did

(04:24):
that? How did that? Didthat change it all? Or did you
just keep doing what you're doing? No, it just it just validated everything
that I was doing. So itwas just constantly keep doing what I was
doing is just stacking days to keepbeing great. What do you like to
do away from the field. Awayfrom the field, I go off a
little bit when it's warm, obviouslynot now I hike a little bit.

(04:44):
But now mostly I'm just zen, chill, calm in my mind because football
itself, it can't get stressful, but you know me, just calm my
mind and just try to be ina moment and just take take pride in
every single day. I'm gifted. So what do you What kind of hiking
do you do? Hiking in mountains? I haven't really hiked out here.
My favorite place to hike is Sedona, Arizona, super beautiful out there probably

(05:08):
like one of my favorite places inthe world right now. But hiked out
there, hike a little bit inOhio on some trails, but definitely obviously
haven't been anywhere out here because it'snow, but I'm pretty sure i'd like
some places. Yeah, there's somenice spots in eastern Kentucky a few miles
down the road. Different kind ofmountains than in Arizona, obviously, bus
but some cool spots. What whenwhen did you start doing you said zen,

(05:31):
like I guess meditation things is whendid that start? How did you
start getting into that? It kindof actually started like a couple of years
ago. You know, I alwaysI always was kind of like a journal,
like a journal gratitude person. Andthen I carried it on further from
that. So I do like dailydevotionals, and then you know, just
you know, come on, comeon your mind whenever you feel like a

(05:53):
little bit stressful or overwhelmed with acouple of thoughts. So, you know,
I always just try to stay zin. It just keeps you clear
headed and clear focus and makes youmakes you make the right decision. Is
there anything you read or listen tothat helps you with that? I read
stuff here and there, but ultimatelyjust you know, my prayer following the
word awesome, but staying strong inmy faith. But ultimately that's what drives

(06:17):
me. Gotcha, what are someof your goals for this upcoming season.
I haven't really narrowed that down yet, been actually trying to get like a
vision board going together to have thatordeal, you know, hanging up in
my room. So I look atthat, but definitely over a thousand,
I say, at least fifteen.I shoot, I'm gonna shoot for the

(06:40):
stars, talk about guys. Soyeah, i'ma shoot for the stars with
whatever I do, just cause youknow, I only expect, you know,
to be great and you know I'ma perfectionist. Sometimes it hurts you,
but no more than whatnot. Ifeel like that's what you know dried
me to keep me going every day. If you've gotten I know you've only
a couple of weeks under your belthere in ten, but you started the

(07:00):
bonding process with some new teammates.Oh no, definitely, whether that's like
throwing on the field every day doingtracks or just being in the film Whom
with Brock and some of the otherquarterbacks. Both, But we know We're
definitely gimis got a good in theweight room. So everything's coming together pretty
good. Any Well, I'm suresome of those guys go off, so

(07:21):
you'll probably do something like that. But when you kick going, what what
is what about your position? Coach? Yeah, talk to him and what
do you expect out of that relationship? No, we talk. We talked
pretty pretty pretty ton. We probablymeet probably like once a week as a
running back room right now. He'sa great guy. He's had a great,

(07:42):
great tradition of running backs he's putin the league also, So I'm
just excited to you know, getto work with him, pick his brain
a little bit and just you know, develop my game overall. So well,
thank you so much for your time. Thank you, I appreciate it.

on Behind Kentucky Football by new Kentuckywide receiver Raymond Coatrell. How's Lexington been

(08:30):
for you so far? And it'sbeen cold, It's been real cold.
It's been I've never actually seen snow, so my first time coming to Lexington,
I move in for the first twodays is raining and it's just completely
cold. And then I just wakeup one day and snowing, and you
know, I was like, Iwas like a little kid on Christmas.

(08:52):
I went outside. I started runningand playing in it, man, because
it was just a great thing, seeing something I've never seen before. It's
a great place, so leading manall of it. What el did you
get accomplished? Probably even gonna lieI feel I definitely slept a couple of
times. That was that was thatwas pretty fun. I played with my
dog in it for a little bit. I think I did. I think

(09:13):
I did. Slept with some friends, some teammates. I went. I
went slam with those guys. Thatwas pretty fun. That's awesome. What
kind of dog do you have?I have a lab and a curve mix
okay, and his name is Apollo. Apollo, Yeah, I had him
since he was since he came outthe womb like straight out of like straight
out of there. I had him. That's great. So how did you

(09:37):
get how did you end up toLexington? Kind of share your story a
little bit. What was your journeyhere? So I have never got offered
here. I never got offer fromhere, so it was kind of like,
you know what I'm saying, Itwas kind of like an old snap
Kentucky, like Kentucky trying to talkto me almost like so the process for
that. So once I decided tohit the portal, I started instantly looking

(09:58):
for schools. Instantly starts blowing differentschools, and Kentucky was like the third
school that texted me. At first, I had left it alone because I
was like, I didn't even reallyknow if they really wanted to, you
know, really wanted me to playhere, you know what I'm saying.
So I just left it alone fora minute, and I get a text

(10:18):
from one of the assistant receiver coachcoach verb great guy. He said,
Hey, man, let's stop onthe call real quick. Man. Let's
you know what I'm saying. Let'stalk for a little bit, you know,
let's just chop it up. SoI was like, Okay, you
know what I'm saying, Let's youknow what I'm saying, Let's let's chop
it up then. So you know, he was like, man, I
really think you can come here,Man, I really think you can throw

(10:39):
out in this offense. Man,I think this is you. So I
come up here and I instantly loveit, like I instantly just like I
almost like like I can like theway they play here, in the way
they showed like emotion was just likegreat mentality. It's just like it's craving,

(11:01):
man, It's craving something that youreally want to be a part of.
So what what specifically is it aboutthe offense that you like? What
aspects do you think you can succeedin speed? You're gonna have a lot
of You have a speedy offense thisyear, a very speedy office this year.
People look at me and be like, oh your straws. No,
I'm really fast, know like,I'm really fast. I'm one thing that

(11:24):
people I want people to know aboutme. Man. I'm very confident in
myself and I don't let anybody takethat away from me. You know what
I'm saying. I was always taughtto have confidence. Who taught you about
confidence? My pops? You knowwhat I'm saying, My pops. Growing
up, man, My pops alwaystold me, hey, I ain't never
been scared of nothing coming out withthe wound. He ain't let me.

(11:45):
He won't even let me be scaredof him. He wouldn't like he just
wouldn't. He just you know what, I'm Obviously I'm afraid of my dad.
I'm always gonna be afraid of that, you know what I'm saying.
But he always taught me, like, you know, not to be afraid
of anything. You know what I'msaying. You can overcome, You can
conquer anything. You know what I'msaying. You put your mom to and
always glieve that what was? Whatwas? How did you do that growing
up? What was kind of whatwas it like growing up for you?
What was Milton, Florida? Right? What's it? What's it like down

(12:07):
there? What was some of yourexperiences? This country? Man, it's
very you know what I'm saying. This this is is surrounded by a lot
of water. So he definitely dida lot of fishing. I'm a fishing
type guy. We did a lotof hunting. Can I ask you a
question. Yeah, what's your favoritetype of fishing? If you ever been
fishing. I've been fishing catfish fish. It's the easiest. You just put

(12:31):
the put the line in the waterand kind of just wait. That's why
I got to Yeah, we gottaget you. We gotta get you on
the boat. Man. We gotto get you out there in that ocean.
Okay, we got to get youout in the ocean. Man.
I'm telling you, man, youwill see beautiful things out there. So
you did some deep sea fishing, like real real stuff, Yeah, of
course, deep sea fishing, ofcourse. Yeah. Man, those those

(12:54):
type things that I did with thoseespecially if you if you if you're not
scared of a fish, you're notscared of nothing off the planet. I've
seen some big old fish, man, I've seen I've seen what I forgot
the fish called with the little Myfirst time I ever seen it, I
went crazy. It's a fish witha little pointy marlin. Okay, marlin,
That's that's what I've seen. Myfirst fish I ever seen deep sea

(13:16):
fish was a marlin. I couldn'tbelieve it. Like and believe the little
sharp thing on their nose is probablythe sharpest thing I have ever felt in
my life like that thing can pierceyour skin if it felt like, well,
that's all fish too. I meaneven like little fast or something.
There's scales on the back. Getyour watch it out some bad some of
them are poisonous. Some of themto get stuck in your foot. Hey,

(13:39):
make your foot go this big.I'm telling you, man, fishes
are You's got all kinds of thosedangerous things in Florida? Though? Don't
you got to keepe alligators? That'sa big thig. Crocodiles. Man,
There's a lot of stuff and onefrom man. We talked about your confidence
that was instilled by your dad. What kind of drives you as a player?
Makes you you want to get betterpeople around me? You know what

(14:03):
I'm saying. When you grind him, bro, it's always good to have
somebody, you know what I'm saying. It's obviously it's cool to you know.
You grinding by yourself, don't getme wrong, Ain't nothing wrong with
that. But when you grinding withyour brothers, you feel like you accomplished
a whole lot more. Who whoare you bonding with since you've been it's
been here in Kentucky? Who haveyou kind of created this and I know

(14:26):
we're only rivers. He's one ofthe walk on. He's a great guy.
Man. I love that guy.Like the first time that ever he
me and me and him talk, bro we hit it off instantly and ever
since then, like he just beenmy guys cool. Also a big part
of it is obviously building relationships withthe quarterbacks. Of course, Brock.

(14:48):
I love that guy. I've beentalking to that guy since as soon as
he committed, Me and him neverstopped. So yeah, Brock man,
I because eventually, as y'all know, I was committed to Jordia, So
I've talked to Brock before where I'veseen Broc, you know what I'm saying.
So me and him we chopped itup. We like if we him
sit down right now. We wereprobably never thought we would ever get to
play together because like I was, like it was in high school. So

(15:09):
when I saw Brock, I wasjust like, I'm never gonna see this
guy. Yeah, never wonna seehim again. So eventually, man,
I'm going through the process. Ihit the portal, I see he hit
the portal, and I have askedverb. I was like, verb,
y'all seen you know what I'm saying, y'all, seemed like Brock just hit
the portal. He said, onit next time, and the next few
minutes, I see committed. WhatWow. Well, but I'm actually like,

(15:37):
I'm actually like, I'm glad thatwe picked up Man. He's definitely
gonna be a good set to theteam. So you guys getting some working
together. Oh yeah, yeah,we get working all the time. All
the receivers, Man, all thereceivers Bow Brock, the only ones I
really know right now, of course. Yeah, we always get worked all
the time. Man. We won'tlet it day go by. Were trying
to win something. This year ruinedit all. So the goals for this

(15:58):
season, you personally and as ateam, what do you guys early on
are talking about it. I'm sureyou've got some in your mind that you
want to get accomplished for this year. As y'all know, I have four
long years, so this year Ijust want to accomplish like just becoming a
better athlete, you know, reallyunderstanding the game, you know, and

(16:18):
obvitually try to get on the fieldthe fastest way possible. Yeah, And
as a team, I would saywas the end goal is the natty to
win Natty. But right now we'renot really focused on that. We really
really focused on just getting better andtrying to really understand like brotherhood and really
football come together and know each other. So how much have you gotten to

(16:40):
talk to to coach Shorts? Uh? Your position coach is obviously he'll be
a big, big part of yourdevelopment. And and I've talked to him.
I've talked to him. I've talkedto him a few times. He
you know, he on the roadhere for a minute. He always bearing
for a minute. So as soonas he got here, they put him
on the road, you know whatI'm saying. So so I mean me
and him talk, him talk everytime. He's a real dude, you

(17:02):
know what I'm saying. He's veryHe's very genuine. You know, he's
real. Yeah, and you cantell about every time he speaks he means
it. You mentioned fishing and hunting, is or any other activities you like
to do off the field to kindof unwind. Man, I'm ature,
got anything that ain't anything with quiet, you know what I'm saying. Thing

(17:22):
I can just have peace with. And I don't like all that loud and
nasha stuff. I don't like themand I like he's having peace, you
know what I'm saying. So thelast one from last question, you know
you you make that decision. Kentuckyreaches out, wh why did you pick
her? Why did you want tocome here? The atmosphere, the people,

(17:44):
the players, the coaches, everybody, man, it's just a really,
to be honest, it's really agood vibe. Like it's a good
vibe. It's somewhere that I knewthat i'd be, Like, I can
throw out here, I can playhere. It's a good environment. The
place is quiet, there's nothing thatreally happens in like it's in. It's
a it's a good place. Itis every it's it's a good place all
around. Fevan, thank you somuch your time. Thank you m hm
