Speaker 7 (06:41):

career high tonight with twenty three points. What took over
in you to be so effective in the second half offensively?

A quick reminder that the Nick Mangione Show follows us
coming up next here on the UK Sports Network. The
Wildcats will be home tomorrow night at Kentucky Proud Park

A couple of other news and notes around UK athletics.
The University of Kentucky gymnastics team are heading to the

(10:10):
program's thirty sixth NCAA postseason. That Cats were selected as
the number nine overall seed in the twenty twenty five
NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship. Kentucky will be the number three
seed in the University Park Regional hosted by Penn State,
that will be April second through the fifth. The Cats
will receive a first round by and make their twenty

(10:32):
twenty five regional debut on Thursday, April third, in the
first of two regional semifinals. Number nine Kentucky will be
joined by number eight Michigan State, Ohio State, and the
host Penn State in the opening session at one o'clock Eastern.
Number one LSU, Number sixteen Arkansas, Michigan and the winner
of Wednesday's first round contest between Maryland and West Virginia

(10:55):
will compete in the second semifinal at seven pm Eastern.
From there, the top two teams in each semifinal will
advance to Saturday's regional final, to be held at five
pm Eastern on April fifth, So congratulations to Tim Garrison's group.
They will compete in the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship again.
That is going to be the University Park Regional hosted

(11:16):
by Penn State April second through the fifth. The Wildcats
are the number nine overall seed and the three seed
in the regional. Kentucky softball secured a series win over
number twenty oh Miss this past weekend at John Crop Stadium.
On Sunday, sophomore outfielder Peyton Plots hit the go ahead
home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and

(11:37):
secured two outs in the top of the seventh on
a double play to help the Cats beat Ole Miss
four to two in the rubber match victory. Sunday's win
in the rubber match also helped the Wildcats to two
SEC series wins on the season, as Kentucky previously swept
Miszoo to open the league season, and uk is now
twenty one and eleven on the year, hovering as season

(12:00):
high eleven games over five hundred with a winning record
in conference. With a winning record and conference play at
five and four, the Cats return to action tomorrow night
at six o'clock against number seventeen Stanford in a non
conference midweek matchup, and then the Wildcats will head to Arkansas.
They'll take on the Razorbacks in Fayetteville Friday through Sunday. Well,

(12:22):
the Wildcats were certainly enjoying that eighty four to seventy
five win over Illinois last night in the round of
thirty two up in Milwaukee, the Wildcats otega Oway went
for fifteen points, had four rebounds and assist. He also
stole the ball and had a block shot, shooting six
of twelve from the floor in three of five at
the free throw line and after the game, he caught

(12:43):
up with our Jack Gibbons.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Hang, what up? No are you doing? Baby?

Speaker 7 (12:48):
Give me something here, man, little love, little sup great win, great, great,
well great great.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
To a sweet sixteen. I don't know how to explain,
but you tell me what you're feeling right now.

Speaker 8 (13:03):
Man, I'm excited. I'm excited. Uh, you know, we put
a lot of work in. You know, these are the
moments we with for just you know, you get to
play on the biggest stage.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
We're gonna go.

Speaker 8 (13:12):
Home, you win to keep on going by another day.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
So I'm just excited, you know.

Speaker 7 (13:16):
Tom and I talked to coach Fox this morning and
he told us. I said, coach, what's your three words
for this game tonight? First, he said, rebound in the basketball.
We got to keep them off the offensive glass. If
they get it, we can't let them score. Kentucky does that.
Then he said, more than once, we have to make

(13:38):
sure they don't make threes.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
And man, you you take both of those things.

Speaker 7 (13:44):
Kentucky did well, and it just kind of shows you
that you guys are locked in and focused on what's
ahead of you.

Speaker 8 (13:51):
Yeah, I mean you said it when we locked in
and we want to, and we decide we got to
play defense. I think we wanted the better teams out there,
but it's all just mental. We just got to decide
that we got a lot again and you know, get
stop because we're gonna scrow on offense. So it's just
all defense for us.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Look, I have to talk a little bit about the bench.

Speaker 7 (14:06):
Okay, because one of the against Troy the other night,
then again here tonight.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
Yep, they were as productive as you have to want
them to be.

Speaker 8 (14:18):
Every team there's a big time. I mean, I feel
like that that just shows what we had to go
through all year. You know, we were hurt a lot
of hits to the roster and stuff like that, but
you know they came ready to play. They grew up quick.
So I feel like whenever they come into the game,
you know they cut sugar. It only makes us better.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
And I also want to just hit on Lamont Butler
here real quick man, because I tell people the thing
that's really big about having Lamont out there now that
Jackson is out this huge It keeps you at the
two guard and at the small forward position and doesn't
make you have to go out there and run and
start the offense.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
Am I right with that? Nah, you're one hundred percent right.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
I say it all the time.

Speaker 8 (14:58):
Whatever lamon out there is just it makes a game
so mus usual because you know it's pure point guard
here dogs sing. I'm just whenever he out there, he
just helped the whole team because you know he just
ki's under control and now you know it takes pressure,
officer and God.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Go back there, man and enjoy this scene. WI you
fellas man, because this is huge. So looking forward to
Indianapolis next, sir, let's do it well.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Marching to the sweet sixteen.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
It was great to hear the excitement from Oway and
Jack Gibbons in that segment right there after Kentucky defeated Illinois. Well,
now they're on to the sweet sixteen in Indianapolis, and
the next opponent will be a very familiar one. Of course,
you know by now it's the Tennessee Volunteers, the two
seed in the Midwest region. The balls get there by

(15:41):
a way of defeating Wafford in the first round and
UCLA in the second round. And as many times as
these two old rivals have met, they have never squared
off against each other in the NCAA tournament until now.
Friday night, seven thirty nine is the tip off time
at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Our coverage on the
UK Sports Network will begin at six o'clock with the

(16:04):
Jack Burford Chevrolet count down to tip off. We've got
one segment left here on this week's addition to Clark's
Pumpin' Chop BBN Radio, and it comes up next on
the UK Sports Network.

Speaker 18 (17:05):
If you see a buzzed warning sign, call for a
ride when it's time to go home. Buzz driving is
drunk driving.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
A message from NITZA and the AD Council, I love
your car? Is this real leather ever?

Speaker 19 (17:16):
Wonder where the capital A and Chick fil A came from.
It started with Grade A top quality chicken, but we
believed everything, not just the food, should be Grade A.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Hi, I'm Jia.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
I am a team leader at Chick fil A. To me,
the A and Chick fil Ady is a smile.

just a little joke that makes them laugh when they
come through the driver.

Speaker 17 (18:00):
Into that cascading liquid, a mouthwatering waterfall aresistably tasty. Zero sugar,
Chris refreshing and ice gold. Is Coke zero sugar the
best Coke effort, try and decide.

Speaker 20 (18:15):
Real Kentucky fans. Noble Wildcats all time assist leader in
a single season is Tyler Ulis, who dished out an
amazing two hundred and forty six assists during the twenty
fifteen twenty sixteen campaign. But when it comes to insurance,
Kentucky's all time assist leader is Kentucky Farm Bureau. Since
nineteen forty three, Farm Bureau's hometown agents have been helping

(18:36):
Kentuckians get back on their feet after a storm or
accident with unmatched surface and claims response. Kentucky Farm Bureau
big on commitment.

Speaker 18 (18:45):
You've heard the term buy local, how about play local?
When you play Keno and other games from the Kentucky Lottery,

Speaker 18 (19:09):
Please play local, have fun, and help Kentucky students too.
Play responsibly. Remember it's just a game.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Sunday saw a heartbreaking into the Kentucky women's basketball season
as they fail to Kansas State in overtime eighty to
seventy nine. In the tournament, Georgia Amore had the look
from about three feet out. It was point blank. It
was a great look, and you want her taking that
shot every time. It just was a cruel bounce that
went the wrong way for Kentucky and Kansas State advanced

(19:50):
to the Sweet sixteen. So Kentucky season comes to an
end at twenty three and eight. Overall, what a run
though you think about the history that was made, the
school program record for blocks in a season, Clara Strack
resetting the individual blocks record, Georgia Amore resetting the forty
year old individual assist record as she finished with two

(20:12):
hundred and thirteen dimes on the year, and then there
were so many memories like beating Louisville and Tennessee at home.
But Kentucky season comes to a close at twenty three
and eight, and after the game, we had a chance
to sit down and chat with associate head coach Lindsey
Hicks about the game and the bright future ahead.

Speaker 12 (20:29):
Yeah we did, you know, I thought Georgia had a
really good look at the basket, and you know, it's
just one of those that it hits the rim a
couple of times and if it drops in or on
too the sweet sixteen. But our kids played really hard.
Just really proud of them, and they battled. You know,
it was a battle, and it was a really good
basketball game to watch, and so really proud of our kids.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Talk about the challenge of this Kansas State offense because
they passed so well. We were talking about it in
the fourth quarter in overtime. If you really zero in
on Lee, they're able to lob it across the floor
for an open three. Just talk about the challenge.

Speaker 12 (21:01):
Yeah, they do a great job of just playing inside out,
and you know, it's kind of like pick your poison.
You know, we focused a lot on Lee inside and
her presence, and then you know, then, like you said,
they have great shooters on the perimeter, which makes them
a really good basketball team. And so I thought, I
thought we did a good job of guarding inside. And
then the second part of that is we got to

(21:23):
guard in the perimeter too, and I think Poindexter had
uh she had eight threes. So you know, it's hard
to win when a kid has eight threes. And but
you know, I thought we did a good job of
you know, rebounding and you know, you know, we got stops,
but they hit plays and they made shots when it counted.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
So I thought you had some players really step up today.
Obviously Clara with twenty two points, but Tianni Key and
Amelia Hasset really stepped up for this group today.

Speaker 12 (21:47):
They did you know, they had great minutes, and you know,
we were asking them to do some things defensively that
was you know a little bit different for him. You know,
Amelia had to guard Sundel, which is essentially a big
guard and she does a lot for him, you know.
And and then Siannie happened to be on the perimeter too,
was different than you know, just playing inside. And so
I thought our kids were locked in on the scout

(22:09):
and what we're trying to do and what we're trying
to take away. But you know, again it's we weren't perfect,
and so on the perimative, they really hurt us.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
Yeah, and uh, you know, we talked about Georgia Amore
and I remember thinking in the second quarter and I
even set it on the air when she was sitting
at eleven points at Kansas State and did a great
job trying to contain her today, but it was like, what,
this team needs her to score some to win the game.
And then what happens late in the fourth quarter in overtime.

Speaker 12 (22:33):
She hit some big shots, hit some really clutch shots
and the one that the three she had at the
top of the key was clutched. And and that's the
moments that she lives for. You know, we we we
want the ball in her hands and running our offense,
and in those moments like that, we want Georgia to
have the ball, and whether that's a shot that she's
taken herself or setting up for a teammate so she
you know, obviously we can talk about Georgia Amore in

(22:56):
her career, you know, all day, and you know, we
think the world of her, and she's had an awesome career.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
I hate to see her career end like that. But
what an effort had I mean, she come in here
and set records in her one yeah, blue and one yeah.

Speaker 12 (23:07):
And that's what's so fun about it is, you know,
she had a great career and then she comes here
at TA Kentucky and you know, the same things. She
picked up where she left off, and so I'm just
really proud of her and her effort and how she
kind of bonded this team together and you know, she
definitely was the glue to what we're doing and she's
going to be missed, but we she started a foundation

(23:28):
here at Kentucky that we're really excited about.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
I was going to say looking forward now to the
future and then of the off season, this program has
momentum despite today's result, because you're one, you're top four
in the SEC, hosting a regional and right that close
to a sweet sixteen. I know that's going to fuel
these players coming back.

Speaker 12 (23:44):
Oh yeah, absolutely little motivation in the off season for
the returning kids. And you know, but we are excited,
you know, about the future of the program and you
know where it can go, and you know, just doing
having the success that we've had in the first year
makes us really excited for the future.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
I know his coaching staff is concentrating, especially in this
day and age recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. It's gotta be nice
to look there and see Strack and Lawrence and yeah,
pass It and Silva all coming back.

Speaker 12 (24:09):
Yeah, yeah, Lawrence was coming back.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
She's I'm sorry, I said, I met key.

Speaker 12 (24:14):
Yeah. Yeah, so yeah, we do have our core kids
are coming back and you know, a good group of
kids that we're excited about and they'll continue to grow
in our program and under coach Brooks in his system,
and so we are really excited about the future. And
then just adding some pieces on top of that.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
And again that was associate head coach Lindsay Hicks. After
yesterday's ball game, our Curtis Burch had a chance to
go inside the Kentucky locker room where he was able
to catch up with Clara Strack and get her thoughts
on the season and playing with a new program.

Speaker 15 (24:46):
Yeah, it's been obviously like a really special season simply
because we all just a year ago, we were none
of us were here really for casting ict coaches included, Like,
so it was really special. We were able to come
together and and accomplish so much. That was huge.

Speaker 12 (25:01):
How much of a bond And did you guys have form?

Speaker 15 (25:03):
Yeah, it was huge. I think that was the biggest part.
And the surprising part too, really like how well and
how quickly we just smashed and like no no drawm
in anything. It was really it was great. And you
mentioned the first year with coach Brooks, you guys come together.
How exciting is the future of Kentucky oa's basketball. Yeah,
I mean, obviously, how much will you commis in a
year with everyone being new. He's just an amazing coach.

(25:27):
I mean, it was really excited to see what the
future holds, especially you know, bring in new pieces next
year and.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
Stuff like that. And you could hear more of that
reaction from the Kentucky locker room on our UKSN all Access.
You get all kinds of great content radio, TV, and
insider info through UKSN all Access. Well, yesterday's loss also
brought the curtain down on a remarkable career for Georgia Amoor.

(25:53):
Across five seasons with Virginia Tech and Kentucky, she wrote,
she rewrote many of the record books. She made a
final four ACC regular season and conference tournament champion. She
was a first team All ACC twice. She was first
seam All SEC set records at Kentucky in her one
season in Blue, but more importantly left the lasting legacy

(26:14):
of helping Coach Brooks lay the foundation and set a
culture for the future of this program, and that was
never more evident than the response that Deja Lawrence gave
when she was asked what Georgia Amore meant to her
with the two playing together in their lone season in Lexington, GS.

Speaker 22 (26:33):
Taught me to no matter what again, show up and
work hard. G has had an amazing career. I follow
her career since she's came to college. I've always been
a fan. I think when I first committed, she texted me.
I said, Oh Georgia, tex Me, but no, just always
just showing up being the best version of yourself. I
don't think I've had I've seen you have a bad
day in practice or in a game or anything like that.

(26:55):
So she's so mentally strong and she and she just
she uplifts us every day and no matter if we
just turn the ball over, took a bad shot, or
anything like that, she just shows up as the best
version of herself and no matter what she's going through
at home or outside of basketball. So that's the one
thing that I will forever take and always working hard.
She didn't get in this position that she's in this

(27:17):
because she showed up. She showed up every day and
worked her tail off every single day. So I will
always remember that and just always because of her show
up and work no matter what. And I know that
if I do that, great things will happen.

Speaker 12 (27:28):
So that's sweet.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
Those were some great comments from Jajah Lawrence about Georgia A.

Speaker 16 (27:34):
Moore.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
