big coming up on Wednesday, and then of course look
ahead to the postseason as well and recap Senior Day.
But first we're joined by Goose, Givens and Jack. Great
to see it. As always, I've missed talking to you
these last few games. I've been away on the televisions, But.
Speaker 8 (05:14):
To look forward to talking to you tomorrow night.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
But here we are, Kentucky up again in the poll
and one week after their largest rise in school history.
What are your thoughts in the first handful games.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Well, first let me say I'm very happy you have
Brooklyn here tonight.
Speaker 15 (05:29):
Listen.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
My granddaughter plays plays volleyball. She's a sophomore, and I've
had to learn volleyball the last three years. My daughter
played a little bit also, but I've really gotten into it.
And folks, I'm telling you, if you haven't been to.
Speaker 8 (05:45):
A volleyball it's the best.
Speaker 15 (05:48):
I mean, I thought I knew athletes. It's the best.
Speaker 16 (05:50):
Man.
Speaker 6 (05:51):
Those girls, man, they it just amazes me. And my
daughter has to scream at me, not scream at my chest.
It turns Papa, slow down, be quiet, because I'm just yeah,
I'm just getting into it.
Speaker 8 (06:04):
Man.
Speaker 6 (06:04):
But if you haven't been to one, you've got to
come watch them.
Speaker 8 (06:08):
Absolutely.
Speaker 15 (06:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Well, as far as our team is concerned, the basketball Cats,
I have been just incredibly pleased with what I've seen.
Mark has done a wonderful job. I know we all
know that, we talk about it, we hear it, but
he has done so many really really good things, not
(06:30):
just for the team, but for the Big Blue Nation,
for all the fans. And it's fun, it's great being
a part of, and it's great saying how well the
team has done to this point. And I think we're
going to be even more surprised as to how good
they'll be ultimately.
Speaker 7 (06:50):
And you know, one of the nice things about being
on the TV side of it the last three games
or so was that you get a little bit more
insight as far as I was in more practices and stuff.
So you're in practices a lot more than even you know,
pretty much anybody else other than the guys on the team,
and you can just tell from the shoot a rounds
and practices that these guys just it's amazing that they've
only been together for a few months because it almost
(07:10):
seems like these guys have matured from freshman year to
senior year together the way that they're kind of just
a cohesive unit, really gelling together.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
And I think it's easier to get there with veterans,
which with guys who have been there and done that.
They've been in all kinds of situations where they've had
to adjust their games to various players who they've played with,
They've had to play against everybody. I mean, you know,
they've been everywhere, these guys, So I think with the
(07:41):
veteran team, it's a lot easier to kind of get
everybody on the same page. I love the fact and
I hope we never lose it. That these guys seem
to have a mentality that I've got to prove to
the world that i belong here Kentucky, that I'm good
enough to be here, I should have been here in
(08:04):
the first place kind of thing, you know. So that's
a great approach to the game and to the team,
and I hope they don't lose that because playing with
that edge has been very obvious to me.
Speaker 7 (08:18):
And I think you look at the biggest win of
the season so far, and that's obviously in the Champions
Classic there in Atlanta against Duke, who was a number
six in the country at the time, and they just
went out to Tempi and got a big win at Arizona,
a top twenty team on a true road game.
Speaker 8 (08:33):
So that just tells you where they're at. And with
that win ranks for the Cats.
Speaker 7 (08:36):
But arguably, your best player scores one point, Jackson Robinson,
and you don't win too many of those games most
teams anyway, you don't win too many of those games
where your best player scores one point. And postgame the
game that he scored twenty against Lipscomb, he mentioned that
he didn't like his body language in that Duke game,
not necessarily on the court, but in timeouts and in
(08:58):
halftime and then postgame. And we asked coach Pope, you
know who who brought that.
Speaker 8 (09:03):
Up to him?
Speaker 7 (09:04):
And it was that a coach and assistant whoever it was.
He said, no, that was Jackson. So I think when
you have this accountability from within, I think that just
fuels this team even further.
Speaker 8 (09:13):
Well.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
And Mark knows Jackson and from having him last year,
Mark knows him. And I'm sure Mark has already talked
to him about body language and the importance of a
positive body language as opposed to a negative one. You know,
I told him because I interviewed him after the lip
(09:33):
some game. I interviewed him and I said, man, you
were talking about body language, but every time I looked
at the bench, he was the one up cheering and
leading and out on the floor and pumping everybody up.
So you know, it's good to know yourself and be
able to point it out to yourself. Hey, man, I
(09:54):
need I got to pick it up, you know, And
if I'm not making shots, I got to prove that
I belong here. An interesting way to look at at
that game, the Duke game, with Jackson Robinson to see
because every pro scout they know he can shoot the ball.
I mean that's never been an issue. I mean he
(10:16):
has made enough shots. The question was can you defend
and he defended very well in that game. Can you
be a teammate? He was a positive teammate. Can you
handle the ball and get people involved? He did all
of that. So for the scouts who were there, yeah,
(10:39):
they were disappointed. Why why didn't he I mean they
were disappointed in that regard. But the thing is they
saw all of those little things that they wanted him
to know if he could do. He did all those
other things. So you want to score, you want to
be a factor in a game like that, there's no doubt.
But you also want to help good team win and
(11:01):
that was the most important thing. Kentucky came away with
the win.
Speaker 8 (11:05):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 7 (11:05):
Dalton Knneck last year for Tennessee, he had a couple
of games maybe not one point, but he had a
couple of games where you say, on the surface, maybe
that isn't so good. And it turned out pretty well
for him. As the seventeenth pick for the Lakers and
now maybe one of the favorites for Rookie of the Year.
But we chatting with Goose Gibbons here on Clarks Puppet
Shop BBN Radio. We got to get to a break,
but I cannot wait to ask Goose about the start.
Kobe Brea is having well, we'll have that when we
(11:27):
come back, and more here in the UK Sports Network.

Welcome back to Clars Pumpet shot BBN Radio Andrew Campus
here with Goose Gibbons in the first half hour, and
then we'll have Brooklyn Delay the reigning SEC Freshmen of
the Year for Kentucky Volleyball to chat about their season
and look a little bit ahead to postseason play, which
selection show on Sunday and Goose we tease it right
before the break. Kobe Brea, I mean his shooting percentage
(15:01):
from beyond the art crashed this past weekend. It went
from seventy nine percent to seventy four percent as he
put in twenty three points against Jackson State. I mean,
you look at that motion and is there been a
more pure motion and recent memory that you've seen?
Speaker 15 (15:16):
Just pure? The release is quick.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
He has gotten to where he uses the pump fake
and uses it very well, the pump fake and the
step back. Because teams know they have to run at him,
they try to force him to put the ball on
the floor. He now can not now, but he can
recognize that very quickly. So it doesn't affect the fact
that he's still getting looks at the basket all of
(15:42):
that kind of stuff. And yeah, I mean it's just pure.
I mean everyone he shoots, you think, yeah, that's going down.
He missed one in the game the other night, Jackson
State game, and he was I mean it was as
open as I've seen him in four games. I Mean
he was wide open and he missed it. And almost
(16:03):
took my head set. I said, I'm going home. Man,
that's just a miracle that he missed with that wide open.
But yeah, it's side, it's it's it's it's so much
fun watching a shooter. I mean, you know me, I
mean I love guys who can just flat shoot the basketball,
and he certainly is that kind of guy.
Speaker 7 (16:20):
And the role he accepts, and he had that role
last year with Dayton, and I think Travis Ford and
I were joking, you know, I don't know what's going
on a date. To envision that guy coming off the
bench for an A ten team is pretty incredible. But nonetheless,
but the other thing is if teams buy that ball
fake or they stop buying the ball fake and they
just stand and face guard him.
Speaker 8 (16:40):
He's not a six ' to three shooter.
Speaker 7 (16:42):
He's not a six to two shoot, right, so he
goes he drives baseline on you. You got a six seven
guard coming down the lane there that can either dump
it off to one of the big guys or just
go to the rim himself. So I think that's what
makes him just that added level that he hasn't had
to use, but I think he can use it if
it's needed.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
He's a better athlete than a lot of people give
him credit for because you see him shoot basketball, shoot
the ball and shoot it in the hole. But the
thing that I've been really impressed with is this rebounding
because he gets in there and he I mean, on
this team, all five guys have to rebound, and even
though he's a perimeter player, he gets back and he
(17:20):
rebounds the basketball. He is improving on the defensive end,
Believe me, he is, because Mark wouldn't have him out
there if he wasn't putting the time in on defense
and really figuring out a way to stop people. So
he's he's improved in that area as well. And you
know this thing about coming off the bench, Sometimes guys
(17:42):
are just better coming off the bench. I mean sometimes
with some players, you sit there and you kind of
get a look at the guy you're going to be
matched up against the flow of the game, you feel that,
and then you have the ability to come in and
turn it on and pick it up right where the
(18:05):
guy you're replacing is. So that's a quality that not
everybody has. I mean, it's just not And that's one
of the many things that because you and I both
know he could be starting almost anywhere else in the country.
Speaker 15 (18:20):
I mean, you know that.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
So he accepts that role and he's very good at it.
Speaker 7 (18:27):
And you know, Robbie use the term that I that
I really fall in love with because you see it,
especially after hearing it, you see it so much. Is
that this offense has a way of empowering bigs Amori
Williams and Brandon Garrison obviously specifically, but to a certain extent.
Speaker 8 (18:42):
Andrew Carr.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
You knew he would be, you know, have that freedom,
but maybe we weren't so certain about the fives. And
it's just a lot of fun to see those guys
not the kind of you know, bound to that low blocker,
you know, getting the rebound and having to pass it immediately.
Speaker 8 (18:56):
It just makes this offense so much more free.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
Well, you look at the next level, and that's where
all these guys want to be. There are no big
except for the kid who played that Purdue last year.
Maybe there are no other bigs who play in this
league with their backs to the basket six ten sixty
eleven seven footers. I mean, they're perimeter guys. And I
(19:19):
think the thing that empowers these guys the bigs Amari
and Brandon. The thing that empowers them is that coach
Pope instills in them a confidence that I mean, you
want to try to hide your bigs for the most part,
most teams when it comes to handling the ball and facilitating,
(19:42):
you don't want them in that role. But when you
work on it every day in practice, you know it's
not a fluke. It's by design, and those guys accept it.
And again they've gotten better at it. And the way
they play offense this team, it fits them perfectly.
Speaker 7 (19:58):
And Brandon Garrison just seems like he's maybe a little
bit more ahead And I know I've talked with you
about this on postgame after the Duke game. Maybe a
little bit further ahead of schedule than what folks thought
he might be at this point in the.
Speaker 6 (20:09):
Year, which is a good thing. And again, it all
starts in practice. I mean, you have to understand that
he's working against a couple of guys who are pretty
decent players, you know, and they're banging, and they're doing
all the stuff that they do, all the drills that
they work on, all of those kind of things. They're
doing it every day and putting a lot of time
(20:30):
in these bigs. So with that repetition, confidence come. And
that's where Brandon is right now. I mean he's trying
stuff that he probably has never been cleared to try
so and he's liking it. I mean he's shooting the threes,
he's taking the long jump shots and all of this
kind of stuff which he probably never has now done before,
(20:52):
never had to do it because he was bigger and
stronger than everybody else. So he's come a long way.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
I think the only thing head coach Mark Pope was
mad about was that that one shot attempt was just
a long too. His foot was a line other way.
If it was another six inches back, I think he
would have been happy.
Speaker 15 (21:07):
With You would have been fine.
Speaker 7 (21:09):
We'll have one more segment with Goose Gibbons when we
come back. This is Clark's Pump and Shop EBN Radio

Welcome back to Clark's Pumpet Shop.
Speaker 7 (23:25):
BBN Radio Andrew Cappus here pinchhitting for Darren Hedrick on
the road with women's basketball this week during their Thanksgiving
tournament in Nashville, Tennessee. We're here with Goose Gibbons talking
men's basketball and Goose a little bit of a lull
in the schedule, I guess you could say for men's basketball,
though I really did like how coach Pope scheduled because
(23:46):
you look at the teams that we've seen recently, buck
Nell and Lipscomb, I think most notably in that those
are the teams you probably see. If you're a two
or a three seed, you're probably gonna see a team
just like that, if not that team specifically in the
first round of the tournament.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Yeah, and that's what you want to try to accomplish
this time of the year. And listen, Jackson State was
probably the least of the teams on our schedule at
this point, but they will do good in.
Speaker 15 (24:15):
Their league, I believe me.
Speaker 6 (24:16):
Oh yeah, they have a road trip that is unimaginable.
Speaker 7 (24:21):
Thirty They're in a stretch of thirty nine consecutive non
conference road games, yes, between two seasons, so crazy.
Speaker 6 (24:28):
So they played, I mean, this is I mean, this
is just crazy to be able to have to play
that kind of schedule. And then by the time they
have been beaten up by everybody they go to, they
come back home and they're such a better team, so
much better. So they'll do well in their schedule conference schedule,
(24:49):
So you might see them in a tournament later on
in the year. So that's kind of what you want
to accomplish. I know Kentucky fans would like to see
some bigger name teams and here, especially here at home.
I don't know for sure if that's going to happen
or not. I think Mark will try to make some
(25:10):
better matchups, some bigger name matchups. We're home and home
kind of thing. But they're accomplishing what they need to
accomplish right now. Listen, when you have a team that
where everybody's new, including the coaching stat you need a
lot of what Kentucky is getting right now. As far
as the opposition is concerned.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Yeah, we were chatting with Moe Williams, the head coach
of Jackson State, former NBA player. Obviously I was hoping
Lebron was going to FaceTime him during our meeting. That
didn't happen. Whatever, But you know, the folks at Lipscomb
and buck Noll were very frank about their their schedule
and that nobody wants to play them because Lipscomb is
the preseason favorite PA Sun.
Speaker 8 (25:53):
Bucknell is a.
Speaker 7 (25:53):
Team that received I think about a third or so
of their first place votes in the Patriot League. That's
a competitive league, and they said it's really tough to
get games. So they have these stretches where like Lipscomb
they were playing four games and I think nine days
or ten days something like that, because they basically just
have to find someone that says, yeah, we'll play you,
but you got to come to our place, and you
gotta do it on this day because that's when we
(26:14):
have the hole in the schedule. But I do like
who we picked because you know, he wasn't picking the
ninth or tenth team in the a Sun. He was
picking the preseason favorite. He wasn't picking the eighth team
in the Patriot League. He was picking one of the
preseason favorites.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
So I don't think I watched Lipscomb and Jackson State.
Yeah last night, maybe I watched some of that game,
a little bit of that game. So yeah, you know,
I mean they're they're just doing what they have to
do this time of the year, no question about it.
Speaker 7 (26:40):
But we do have some fun ones coming up. I
know this week is still at home. I can't wait
for Tuesday for Tomorrow Night a Western Kentucky, which, by
the way, that's a bit of a unique Star Times
six thirty is the Star time, So we'll have a
pregame coverage at five across the network. But so a
nice little in state game the Bluegrass Parkway. I guess
though the Toppers may making their way up here tonight
(27:01):
up from Bowling Green my old Stomping Grounds, and then
Georgia State on Friday. But that's a nice little prep
for the huge week you guys have next week with
road games at Clemson and then out in Seattle against Gonzaga,
who is going to be a Final Four potential team,
and that's going to be one of the marquee matchups
of the month of December across basketball.
Speaker 15 (27:20):
Oh yeah, oh, no doubt.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
I'm looking forward to it. Kind of crazy that the
Clemson game is like nine, so it kind of puts
pressure on the Kentucky team to decide how they're going
to work the rest of the week because a nine
to thirty game won't be over until after midnight probably Yeah,
(27:41):
And then you think, well, you give them an hour
after the game at the building. Now you're leaving there
and you get back here at three o'clock in the morning,
and then you you have to go to Seattle, which
you probably would like to go a couple days early
to give your body chance to adjust and or do
(28:02):
you leave do you stay at Clemson after the game?
Practice there at Clemson and then on Wednesday fly out West.
So they they haven't decided that I know of how
they're going to play that, but it'll be an interesting week.
Speaker 7 (28:19):
It's going to be a fun week because Zaga, that's
that's a potential, you know, team that you might see
the last weekend in April or the first weekend.
Speaker 6 (28:27):
Looking forward to that, really looking forward to They're tough
out in the state of Washington, no question about it.
Speaker 8 (28:34):
Brandon Arena too, you're walking into that's the Climate Pledge Arena.
Speaker 7 (28:38):
I believe it. I believe is the name of it.
But that's going to be a really fun trip. But
all of this is obviously in preparation of the SEC.
Have you had a chance to see any of the
other teams in the league. I mean, the one thing
that is consistent you look at the ap top twenty five.
Nine of the twenty five are in the SEC. It's
going to be a gauntlet January through March.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
Yeah, I've seen a lot of Tennessee because I just
like why watching Tennessee play, and they are very, very
good defensively, I haven't seen much of Auburn or Alabama
for that matter, a little bit here and there because
I like to just flip back and forth a little
bit more interesting.
Speaker 15 (29:15):
Uh uh.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
And and you might be surprised about this, but the
razorbacks for uh, for whatever reason, you know, I've tried
to I've tried to catch it.
Speaker 8 (29:26):
I can see the appeal.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
I've tried to catch catch them a couple of times,
and and uh like what I see. But that's going
to be interesting. I watched Fandy last night, uh or
yesterday afternoon. They lost to Drake I think it was,
uh in that tournament over in Carolina. So yeah, I've
watched a lot of basketball, a little bit of LSU
(29:48):
a couple of days ago. So I just tried to
catch up on all of them, just to kind of
see what they have. But here's the key. I don't
care what you see. How they play, and you think
you got in your mind that this is what they do,
that's what When Kentucky shows up, man, it's a whole different.
(30:08):
I mean, buildings are empty when they're playing. When Kentucky
comes in, they're hanging off the rafters and they're screaming
they're loud, the whiteouts and all of this kind of stuff.
So I don't take a whole lot except for Tennessee
because they play the same way every game, and some
of the top teams they'll be the same. But man,
(30:30):
I don't I look at them, but I think, well,
it'll be crazy when Kentucky goes in there.
Speaker 7 (30:34):
No doubt it's going to be a gauntlet as well. Jack,
it's always fun talking to Bastro with you. Well, we'll
finally get to talk post game.
Speaker 15 (30:41):
I'm excited about that.
Speaker 7 (30:42):

Bb in Game Day, Welcome back to Clark pluppatscha, bb
and Radio andwer Campus here with you tonight, and we
are thrilled to be joined by Brooklyn Delay of Kentucky volleyball,
fresh off of their three set sweep against Arkansas and
(34:26):
that is now eight consecutive sec titles, clinching a share
there yesterday.
Speaker 8 (34:31):
Brooklyn, first of all, thank you so much for stopping by.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
I know it's a big travel day for you tomorrow,
but what did did you guys celebrate the occasion. I
know there's still one more big one left on the schedule.
Speaker 29 (34:40):
Yeah, we did have signs yesterday but celebrated a little bit,
but we still have one big one, like you said,
and that's going to be kind of the deciding factor
for us.
Speaker 7 (34:50):
And coming into the year, you know, there was a
lot of chatter outside of Lexington that you know, you're
bringing in Texas into the league in the Southeastern Conference,
that's a multiple time national champion, bringing in Oklahoma a
good program, and they everybody kind of again outside of
this the friendly confines of Lexington, thought well, maybe it's
just gonna end at seven, and uh, it seemed to
not reach the locker room there with with you with
(35:12):
you guys, Yeah, no.
Speaker 29 (35:14):
We knew them coming in was gonna be a big
challenge for us, and obviously it did test us a
little bit this year. And at the beginning of the
season when we did lose to Auburn and Texas, we
kind of thought that we were out of it. But
the SEC has been really insane this year and you
never really knew what was gonna happen, so many upsets,
and so we're back in it, and like you said,
(35:35):
we clinched a little bit last night and we just
have one more game, so yeah, you can.
Speaker 7 (35:39):
Clinch the outright title on Wednesday. That's a big game
at number twenty four. Miszoo to be on SEC Network
plus seven pm Eastern time, I believe eight pm Eastern
times seven pm Central.
Speaker 8 (35:51):
I thought they changed the time zone.
Speaker 7 (35:53):
Thank you to Chris Schulz's he makes us sound great
on the radio. He makes us sound great here on
during BBN radio. Man, they got the guy to at all.
But let's talk about Senior Night. That's such an emotional day.
I know you're just a sophomore, but it must be
really difficult to kind of let go of those seniors
that have been here since you were been on campus.
Speaker 24 (36:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 29 (36:11):
No, some of them actually we're here on my visit,
like people that were hosting me too. So it was
very surreal because, like I mean, I came in here
and those were some people I really got close with
over the past two years, and we have so many
this year it's gonna be definitely challenging next year. But yeah,
just soaking up the last games we have with them,
and I mean they've been a huge to our program
(36:32):
and upholding the standards that we have here. So yeah,
it was a sad night, but our games aren't finished, so.
Speaker 7 (36:39):
We still have more work to do, right and you
know with it, with any luck, we'll find out again
officially on Sunday. But with any luck, that was not
their final time playing inside Memorial Coliseum or in Lexington here.
But you know, I guess what added to the emotion
was just clinching that that championship. You can't write more
a poetic ending, I guess to the to the regular
season homesto edle for those seniors or just the team
(37:01):
in general. But I thought the Aaron Lamb coming back
after missing so much time with injury. I know she
came back in the midweek originally, but for her to
be able to be healthy and playing on Senior Day
and not just kind of as a ceremonial going out there,
but actually contributing. In fact, she finished third on the
team with seven kills. So that had to be a
big lift for you guys to get Lambeau back.
Speaker 29 (37:20):
Oh yeah, for sure. And also like with her family
coming out too, they've been at every single game just
supporting us, no matter if she was playing or not.
So it's been huge having her back because she is
such a leader for us and someone that we can
always count on. You never really have to worry about
what she's going to be doing.
Speaker 7 (37:36):
And Megan Wilson, she's had really good games since she's
been on campus transferring in from Oklahoma, but yesterday it
might have been her most, at least from what I've seen,
her most complete game. She finished with a dozen kills,
was part of four blocks, also had a couple of.
Speaker 8 (37:49):
Tigs up front. She had five hundred.
Speaker 7 (37:51):
That's got to take a little bit of pressure off
you when she's playing so well, they're upfront with you.
Speaker 29 (37:55):
Yeah, I think last night it just showed how offensively
we are and she had a huge night. She's shown
that in practice every single day and it's just really
cool how that translated to the game. So she's been
working really hard and it's finally showing, which is the
perfect time right now for it to be coming alive.
Speaker 7 (38:11):
And great timing for the show as well. I know
that's wasn't in the mind of the league office when
they announced it, but nonetheless, Emma Grome being named the
setter of the Week, the player of the week, she
was part of those festivities on Senior Night, that's got
to be that's gonna be an adjustment for you, right,
I mean, I know, every now and then Tuzzo has
to set something for you, but normally you're getting that
(38:32):
from Grome. So have you has that entered your mind
where you're you know, you realize you're kind of coming
down to the end of your playing time with such
a great and historically great with Kentucky setter.
Speaker 29 (38:43):
Yeah, No, she's been awesome ever since I've watched her play.
She's just controlling the corrida all times, and I mean
you just work with her and she's making adjustments off
the fly. So I mean, she's an insane setter and
like super fun to play with and we're definitely gonna
miss her next year, but I think we have a
great setters coming in, so I mean, she's a huge
(39:03):
piece to our team. And yeah, just cherishing the last
time I get with her.
Speaker 7 (39:08):
Well, it's funny that you say great at directing traffic
because if you just watch and I know it's hard
because it's so easy to just watch the ball, but
if you just watch Emma Grome the way that she
can kind of just tell everybody where to be and
she's just chaotically running to each end of the floor
and then somehow still delivering a near or usually perfect
(39:28):
ball at the net, sometimes from very bizarre angles and
from very like great distances. I don't know how you
get that skill set or how you work on that
skill set, but boy, are we lucky that Emma's so
good at that.
Speaker 29 (39:39):
Oh yeah, no, She'll get hands on anything. And it's
just like so easy to be a passer with her because, like,
like whether your pass is perfect or not, you know
she's gonna get the best ball she can. And I
mean as a hitter, it's so easy because she just
places it where you want it to be. And like
I said, as a passer, like working with her has
been insane because I mean recently my pass is how
(40:00):
been the best, and she makes them look easy. So
you know, she kind of helps the slack a little bit.
Speaker 7 (40:06):
Gro Home finished with twenty eight assists on Sundays. She
had ten digs as well. She was part of two blocks,
did a little bit of everything for the Cats, and
also had a great game in the midwek against Mississippi
State en route to being named the SEC setter and
SEC Player of the Week for volleyball. It is time
for us to step aside and take a quick break
here on Clark's Pumpinshot BBN Radio. But we'll have more
(40:27):
volleyball and Brooklyn Delay when we come back here on
the UK Sports Network.

Welcome back Inside Clark's Pumpets Shot BBN Radio. We're chatting
Kentucky Volleyball with the reigning SEC Freshman of the Year
Brooklyn Delay and a great candidate to up those awards
this year after leading the Cats and Kills perset nearly
coming in at just shy of five. As we enter
the final regular season match, which again is Wednesday, Chris
(43:02):
Sholes finally has beaten it through into my head that
it is now eight pm Eastern Time on SEC Network Plus.
I kept on saying seven for the better part of
about four weeks now, but it is eight pm on Wednesday.
That is the regular season finale. Cats have already clinched
a share of their eighth consecutive SEC title. That is
the fifth longest streak in SEC women's history. That's just
(43:23):
an incredible number. Isn't it to be a part of that?
Speaker 13 (43:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (43:26):
No, I didn't even know that. That's really cool.
Speaker 7 (43:28):
The longest is actually in volleyball, and I sound really smart.
But again I have to give more credit to Chris
Scholes again because it's in his game notes, so I'm
literally stealing them verbatim from him. So big thanks to
Chris for coming up with that. But Florida Volleyball in
the nineties and then early part of the two thousands
had a twenty year stretch of dominance that was not
(43:49):
immediately broken up by head coach Craig Skinner in company.
But I guess he was the beginning of the end
of that dynasty now in his twentieth season, which speaking
of coach Skinner, one of the more great person If
the folks listening haven't had a chance to come to
a game or even meet Coach Skinner, what has it
been like from from recruitment to now just being around
and getting to know Coach Skinner?
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Yeah, you know, it's been awesome.
Speaker 29 (44:12):
Usually when you go in your recruitment process, you kind
of expect things to be different, like they kind of
like hype you up in the recruiting process.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
But once I got here, like nothing really changed.
Speaker 29 (44:21):
Like he's been an amazing coach and just like someone
that I can talk to about anything, like it's not
always volleyball when you're talking in his office. So that's
been really cool because he really like values you as
a person and not just a volleyball player. So I
mean he's kind of like a second dad to me.
So I mean, yes, he's our coach, but he's so
much more of a like a people person too.
Speaker 7 (44:42):
I did a game with Leah Edmund for TV, a
former Wildcat of course, a legend in the program, and
she was talking about how coach Skinner it's just authentic.
You know, there isn't there isn't any salesmany or there
isn't any you know, it's authentic. And it's not just
from when you're a recruit to uh playing for him
and then graduation. You know, she's been out of the
(45:04):
program now for a handful of years and she said
that he treats her the same that like when she
was a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. So yeah, that
having that type of genuiness I think probably kind of
seals the deal for for somebody like you.
Speaker 8 (45:16):
It's such a young age having to make such a
big decision.
Speaker 29 (45:18):
Yeah, No, for sure, he's amazing, Like the whole coaching
staff kind of follows along with that. And he's just
built an amazing culture here that like it's hard to
say no to, honestly.
Speaker 7 (45:27):
And how nice is that. You know, he's he's he's
got now former players. Uh, you know, I don't know
if he wants me to mention this, but you know,
he's been here so long, one twenty seasons, he's got
his he's got a fair selection of former players now.
But uh, but uh, you know, you have you have
a couple of players on staff that have played for him,
so it's, uh, it's really kind of top to bottom
just this staff being supportive for you guys.
Speaker 29 (45:47):
Yeah, for sure, and even some players like come back
and practice with us, which is really cool. So like
once people leave Kentucky, they always want to come back,
which is really cool that we have here.
Speaker 7 (45:56):
And if you haven't been inside the new Memorial Coliseum,
we we missed you on Senior Day because that was phenomenal.
But I know as a as a sophomore, you didn't
get to play in the old version of Memorial Coliseum.
But I guess when you took your visit, did you
see a game in the the old rendition.
Speaker 29 (46:12):
I didn't see a game, but I did come to
a couple camps, and let me say, it was pretty
hot in there, So I'm kind of glad we have
ac now. Some of the girls talk about it and
how like there would always be people on the court
with towels just wiping up sweat because it was so hot.
So I'm really grateful for this new gim we have.
Speaker 7 (46:30):
But yeah, and I know it's still still a little
bit ongoing, especially what folks cannot see. But how how
is the set up for players and stuff like in
terms of the locker rooms and facilities that are off
limits to f shall we.
Speaker 8 (46:42):
Say, yeah, no?
Speaker 29 (46:43):
The locker room. We got a whole new locker room
this year, which it's really big. We used to have
like two separate rooms, one for like watching video and
one for the actual locker spaces, but now it's all combined,
so we have like a little lounge area in there
combined with the lockers.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
So it's really spacious.
Speaker 7 (46:58):
And it's a great recruiting tool and coach Skinner has
used that to not only bring in a class like
yours as a sophomore, but he's got a great freshman
class as well. And I think that's what makes this
team so unique is that you have some key seniors
like we talked about and others that we haven't that
we'll get to in a little bit, but you also
have a lot of youth players, whether it be true freshmen,
red shirt freshman, or sophomores like yourself, although you're almost
(47:22):
like a junior now before it went on there, but
that knicks is really fun for this team.
Speaker 29 (47:27):
Yeah, no, it's definitely gonna be cool because we do
have a huge senior class, but like having those young
players like get court playing time has been really useful
this year because like going down the road, I mean,
you want that experience going into the tournament.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
So that's really helped in.
Speaker 29 (47:42):
Like I mean, Brooke and Jordan being like freshmen but
like they are sophomores. I guess I don't know really that,
but just having that experience last year and just knowing
like the leadership we had last year too, like transforming
to this year, they've been really good on the court
and just it kind of shows Yeah.
Speaker 7 (47:59):
Yeah, Jordan Daily had phenomenal game yesterday at six kills,
hit five point fifty six, also part of three blocks,
Brooke Baltima five blocks yesterday with a couple of kills.
I got to ask, though, in practice, have you ever
been on the receiving end? She has one of those
where she like, I don't know the play. You may
know it better than obviously you'll know it better than
I will. But where she like kind of runs up
to a set and she just is able to rare
(48:20):
back and then hammer it. I it is my biggest
fear that I'm going to be on the wrong end
of that during warmups? Have you been on the wrong
end of that during practice?
Speaker 29 (48:28):
Sometimes blocking them, I have gotten hit in the face
a little bit because my blocking form isn't the best,
so have taken some to the head. But yeah, no,
they're really powerful, So what don't want to be on
the other side?
Speaker 8 (48:40):
For sure, blocking form not the best.
Speaker 7 (48:42):
You're being the modest two blocks two blocks yesterday, in
addition to a team leading Baker's dozen kills with thirteen.
But nonetheless, yeah, when she does that, I'm like, I close,
I close my laptop and sometimes Chris sees me, I
crawl underneath the table on the other side just in case,
like that's a good time to go up. As usually say, Andrew,
this is a good time to go up and get
ice cream. We'll go sit in the media room read
(49:04):
read Chris's notes so I can steal them and sound smart.
People will think I'm smart, and yeah, that's that's what
we do to stay out of brook Baltimore's way.
Speaker 8 (49:12):
But yeah, she's she's gonna.
Speaker 7 (49:14):
It's really exciting to see all these freshmen in Asia
thick Pen as well to see her and granted, you
guys had some really gargantuine tests early, but to see
her growth from that that ABC A first Serve classic,
that game that we did in Louisville to seeing her now,
it has been leaps and bounds as well.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 29 (49:32):
I mean she started out for US as just a
three rotation back row player and then had some injuries,
so then we had to have her play six rotations,
and I think she took that perfectly. She really was
up to the challenge, and I mean she really just
played with like no fear. I mean going up some
with some big blocks, like she's kind of undersize, but
she really just swung away and she's done phenomenal this year.
Speaker 7 (49:55):

Andrew Cappus here with Brooklyn Delay, the reigning SEC Freshman
of the Year.
Speaker 8 (53:23):
Do you get a trophy for that? Is that a
Is that a big large trophy that you have?
Speaker 2 (53:27):
Yeah, I mean it's in my room right now, But
I was like, good size.
Speaker 8 (53:31):
I was about to ask is it?
Speaker 7 (53:33):
Because you're again, you're probably gonna pick up quite a
few more trophies from an individual level and hopefully from
a team level as well. Do you have like space
dedicated in the room or is that is that something
that kind of a go as you go type thing.
Speaker 15 (53:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 29 (53:47):
Yeah, you know there is like a little spot in
my room with like r SC like championship blake little
poster thingy, and then like a couple of my stuff.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
But yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 7 (53:59):
The uh so, what's the prep like for? You know,
we talked about Wednesday eight pm. That's such a huge
game because you guys can win it outright the title
of the league and then more than likely It's really
hard to envision a scenario in which you guys win
Wednesday and you don't host have a good shot at
either way. But I think Wednesday might just seal it.
Is the prep any different, especially with the quick turnaround
(54:19):
or is it just business as usual?
Speaker 29 (54:21):
I mean, obviously we know they're gonna come in hot,
like last game against us, they didn't have their best games,
so we're expecting a really good game this time, so
we got to be prepared. But honestly just going as usual,
like doing the same scouting and just fine tuning some
stuff in practice. But yeah, we're expecting a big game.
Speaker 7 (54:39):
The twenty fourth ranked team in the country. Is that
a matchup with no SEC tournament in volleyball? Is that
a matchup you love to get before the INSTABA tournament
because that's a team that you're gonna, you know, potentially
see or a team like that team that you're gonna
see in a couple weeks in the tournament.
Speaker 24 (54:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
No, it's great going into the tournament.
Speaker 29 (54:55):
They're a really good team, and I think just all
of the SEC games this year have been really tough,
so it definitely prepared us really well and all. Like
obviously the preseason before SEC started, Craig had a tough
schedule as well, So I think we're gonna be prepared
going into this tournament.
Speaker 7 (55:10):
You guys ran the gauntlets there back in September, and
uh yeah, I think I was bad luck. Coach Skinner
was joking he was getting tired of seeing me. Did
the Nebraska game, did the Louisville game, the Penn State game,
and then the Texas game, which was the only conference
game we had done before yesterday. But just really quickly,
I know you're you're from Kansas originally right to Peka. Yes,
(55:32):
that correct, did you envision yourself when you were like
a sophomore junior in high school, where you're like, I'm
gonna be in Lexington, Kentucky in three years.
Speaker 29 (55:39):
Honestly, no, I had no idea. I didn't even know
I wanted to go far from home. My mom jokes
that she was like, yeah, you were leaving this place.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
We already knew it.
Speaker 8 (55:46):
But moms always know though, right.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 29 (55:48):
Yeah, So, I mean they won the championship, and I
mean the coaching staff was amazing in the recruiting process,
So yeah, I wouldn't regret it any day.
Speaker 7 (55:57):
That's an interesting nugget. Where did they win the Nashal
Championship when you were uncommitted? Like yeah committed? Yeah, So
that that did. That did play a little bit of
a factor, didn't it.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 29 (56:06):
I was looking at schools mostly close to my state,
and then they put that in and he came to
a camp I think in Kansas one time, so yeah,
kind of put him on the radar for me.
Speaker 7 (56:18):
So again, that's gonna be on Wednesday and against Missouri,
twenty fourth ranked team in the country, and then selections
Sunday is at six pm. Chris Shouls has asked me
to mention that this is not a public invitation, but
what are the plans for for selection Sunday? Because it
is nationally televised by the way folks listening there, It'll
(56:38):
be six pm on Sunday on ESPNU. But I'm assuming
you were going to watch it as a as a group.
Speaker 29 (56:44):
Yeah, most definitely last year was in reps, so I
think it's in memorial this year, so.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
That'll be cool.
Speaker 29 (56:50):
And yeah, we usually watch it as a team and
just kind of do a bonding experience and hopefully see
our name up on there.
Speaker 7 (56:56):
See I'm amazed that you have time to get better
at ball, in which you certainly have, and it's gonna
be fun to watch your final couple of years even
beyond this year as well. But when you're running around,
you got to you gotta make sure Chris Scholz stays
out of trouble. That's that's got to be an exhausting process.
But in all seriousness, one of the best in the
biz in athletic comms. We are spoiled to have him
(57:18):
in volleyball and then in softball in the spring as well.
But just to kind of put a bow on this,
you look back on this whole season. It's tough to
beat an SEC Freshman of the Year. That's where I
was originally going, by the way, like three minutes ago,
and I got distracted.
Speaker 8 (57:32):
But it's tough to beat that.
Speaker 7 (57:34):
But here you are beating it in terms of that
expectations and now riding off into hopefully a long tournament run.
Speaker 8 (57:40):
So it's gotta be great for you.
Speaker 2 (57:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 29 (57:41):
No, it's been great, just with amazing teammates and coaches.
Speaker 7 (57:44):
Thank you so much, Brooklyn for joining us. We cannot
wait to watch you again. That is on Wednesday at
