We are back here with the show.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Coach Stoop says, moved in alongside after getting back at
it on the practice field on Monday is a light day,
but still you get back together with your guys and
get them outside, get them on the practice field. So
I always start with how it looked today and what
did you guys talk about?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah, absolutely, it's good, you know, to get back to work.
You know, Sunday is always a long day, you know,
to the coaches, obviously get back in the office Sunday
morning and work all day. But we don't get with
the players until this afternoon until Monday afternoon. So that
always feels like a long time because you just you know,
(05:59):
to the coach, is we address it, meet, watch the film.
You know, we're ready to move on Sunday. Of course
we do with the game plan and watching film and
all those things for the next opponent. But then you've
got to circle back and get with the players. So
you know, obviously it's it's you know, you know, a
situation where you have to watch the film and we
got to be honest with each other. You know, you
got to look at the film and own it and
(06:20):
you know areas where we can improve and do better,
areas where we could coach better, and and the players
that were great, you know, they really are. I've said it,
you know all along that this team has a great attitude.
They're they're great young men. They care, they care about
each other. Uh, they've been working hard. We have to
execute better and critical moments and important situations and heck,
like I tell them, you don't know what you know,
(06:42):
they're all important, right, you know, sometimes it's always not
always the obvious. You know, there's so many plays during
the game and so many things. Uh, you know that
I was proud of them, and there's a lot of
areas where we need to improve.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
You said in our post game chat after the game
that you think this you're confident this is a better
football team, and you've done this long enough to have
an educated opinion on it.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
So what do you see?
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Yeah, I mean, I just know you know, the desire
is there. You know, they want to this this team
is you know, it starts up front. You know, we
we definitely or are more physical, you know than we've
been and uh, you know lately, and you know it
starts there. I mean obviously we need to you know,
execute better, you know, offensively in particular in the past game, right,
(07:28):
you know, I mean it starts with protection. You know,
even though we were good and you know a lot
of the night, there there's many instances where we can
be so much better, whether it be the you know,
the you know communication on twists and different things that
are happening, anticipating them, just our technique you know, getting
beat one on one. And then you know there's other
(07:50):
times when the quarterback you know, maybe can get rid
of it. And then there's other times when the receivers
need to get open. But you know, put it all
together and uh, you know there's there's you know, too
many in too many areas where we're falling short.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Sure, when you have a young quarterback and Cutter makes
his second start, his first on the road in the
sec there always concerns to strugglord, but a question how's
he going to handle this? And how's he going to
respond to adversity?
Speaker 5 (08:16):
So what do you see, Well, he's responding, you know, great,
you know he's going to handle it. He's not a
fragile young man. I mean, he's you know, he's built
the right way. And you know there's you know, he's
man enough to look at the film and know there's
areas where he can improve. And then there's areas where
he knows that we need to be better around him.
It's not always on him. And you know, certainly we
(08:39):
cannot turn the ball over. You know, we know that
we're not built to give up. You know, scores and
you know one may have been protection issues and you
know others or you know, the tip passes and things
of that nature. Sometimes you know those are going to happen.
But you know, some of the careless ones like the
second interception, you know that that you know he'll get fixed.
Speaker 6 (09:02):
And part of I'm sure that's him and his coaches
for his position going through and pointing all of that out.
He comes so from a family of athletes, so that
has to help, I would think go through times of
adversity because his dad played college basketballs brothers and sisters
played college sports at a high level.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Yeah, exactly, I think you know they you know, they're
wired the right way. You know, he is a great
family and very supportive and you know, let's be honest.
I mean, there's a lot of great quarterbacks that have
you know, you know, started in the SEC and and
you know early on, you know they're going to make
some mistakes. You know, we have to be good enough
(09:41):
around him to overcome those mistakes and to help him.
You know, I said that, you know, for his first
start of the year this year, that we had to
step up and you know, compete and play well around him.
And I thought the guys did that for the most part.
And you know, in the in this second start he had,
you know, on the road in a hostile environment. You know,
certain things he handled very well. Procedurally was very good.
(10:03):
We worked really hard on crowd noise, the operation, you know,
communication with the guys in and out, and you know
that was very clean. You know, we couldn't afford to
get penalties and you know, pre snap penalties and all
those things. But you know, just you know, protecting the
football is a big one and you know that comes
with snaps, It comes with you know, getting more reps
(10:26):
under your belt and making sure as a staff we're
putting them in a position to be successful as well.
Speaker 6 (10:31):
You don't imagine you spend a whole lot of time
on social media these days or ever, but never you
could imagine your fans are hurting. Yeah, well, and so
what can you say to them to help them think
better days are coming?
Speaker 5 (10:45):
Well? I mean, I completely you know understand that. I
don't think there's anything I could say to make them
feel better. You know, I know that people you know,
throughout Kentucky, and you know, nobody wants excuses, and we're
not here to give them any. You know, I just
say that, you know, I really like this team, and
I know they care and they work hard, and you know,
(11:08):
you know, we got put in a in a you know,
we're in a spot that where we're we're not as
good as we've been, but but we're working extremely hard
to get out of it. And uh, you know, I
definitely know we're better, even though it doesn't always feel
that way, you know, and you know, and and not
make excuses, but just facts. You know, in a game
like that, you know, we had opportunities ball flopping around,
(11:32):
we don't get it. We had we had a tip
pass on their first offensive position. It was tipped off
one receiver and instead of going to us for a score,
it went to them for a first. Now we have
a pass that runs a slant that's maybe a half yard,
a little high and maybe a little hot, gets tipped
and unfortunately gets tipped to one of them and gets
running for a touchdown. You know, you know, those are
(11:54):
things that are very real that happened, and we're not
good enough to overcome them right now, and we got
to do better to you know, work hard to have
the breaks fall our.

Welcome back in to the Marktoop Show. It's presented by
UK Healthcare our Jack Burford Chevrolet Countdown to kickoff coverage
of Kentucky and Georgia from Sandford Stadium. We'll start at
ten am Eastern Time this Saturday, and that'll be with
our pregame coverage with Christine Logan and Ricky and then
(15:41):
it'll be the Jeff picorro to Gabriel and me in
the press box for all of the action here on
these UK Sports Network stations. Seth McGowan had his seventh
rushing touchdown of the season, his second straight one hundred
yard rushing game in this most recent outing. What's the
skill set that he has that makes him an especially
(16:02):
good running back other than just being fast.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Well, he's fast, and you know, obviously he can make
some people miss, but he has very good vision, you know,
and that's you know, something that's very hard to teach,
you know, and you know, for him, just like Saturday,
he bounced some balls. Sometimes as coaches, you know, we
may not always want him to do that, but but
(16:26):
he bounced it and got you know, good yards. And
then there's other times when you just have to take
the dirty yards, so to speak. You know, when there's
only four yards there, you better, you know, get the
four yards and call it a day and live to
play another down. Not try to do too much. But
he runs very hard, he's very passionate. He has a
great effect on his teammates, and so he's he's really,
(16:48):
you know, been a guy we've been very proud of.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
You guys.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
Didn't one thing well with him in that game. I thought,
is get a lot of fours or better on first downs?
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:58):
First production was pretty good.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Yeah, first down was was you know, was it was good?
We know we were very positive in that area much
of the night, you know, and that's you know, what
you're trying to stay away from, is you know, second
and ten and second eleven, second and nine, things like that.
So you know, we're efficient fans.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
What impresses your most about the skill set for Seth McGowan.
That's our Alumni Hall Fan Question of the Week. Please
visit at Alumni Hall UK on X and respond with
your answer for a chance to win a gift card
courtesy of Alumni Hall. On the other side of the ball,
we touched on this on the post game show. Your
guys' production on limiting their runs on first down was
(17:40):
really good in this game. You got them in the
situation you wanted, didn't take advantage of that often.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Enough, well, not often enough, you know, you know much
of that game, well, the game was in the balance.
You know. Defensively, they'll really give up two touchdowns. And
you know for a guy that's you know, probably the
number one quarterback tape and maybe the second, you know,
and the guy that's extremely talented and could beat you
with his arm and his legs, you know, he made
some things happen. Give him credit. You know, in their
(18:06):
staff there was you know, well designed plays, but also
you know the three three explosives in particular, they didn't
have as many offensive explosive plays. We give up the
fifty nine yard pass that was into the boundary things
you know, ways weaken execute better, and again credit them,
and a receiver that could make some people miss and
was fast. But then two other explosive plays Leonoris himself.
(18:28):
You know, they were plays when we had opportunities for sacks.
Not only did they not become sacks, but then they
became explosive plays for them, So you know, again give
him credit. You know, extremely talented and you know, very
good football player.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
Tight Ends didn't get targeted as often in this game.
Was that because you needed them to block more than
maybe in other games.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
Yeah, and I just think, you know, we had a
lot of plays and we're efficient in the first half.
Second half, we didn't get a lot of plays. You know,
they were on the field. We need to do a
better job of getting them off and offensively, we didn't
sustain drafts.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Special teams was handled the fake punt, So that's always
good when you can avoid getting burned on one of those plays.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
Well, not only that, I mean you're playing a team
that was leading the country, you know, in in return
yards by far, by far, and uh, you know, I
think we we held them to negative five on their
punt return for a guy that was again leading the country.
And they are very dangerous. They had three touchdowns this
year on kick returns, you know, punt returns, and they
(19:30):
also do a great job of pressure. And yes, so
we handled the pressure. We punted the ball very well.
Our net punting was you know, we we out netted them,
you know, by far, and then we stopped them on
the punt, you know, on the fake and I wish
we would have converted that into a touchdown. We could
have made it a much closer game there at the end.
(19:51):
So overall, Special teams were very impressive again.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
We are heading to a break. We'll come back in.
Speaker 6 (19:56):

Welcome back here to the Marx Stoop Show. It's presented
by UK Healthcare and we'll take your questions on the
social media on x at UK Sports Network or you
can give us a call on the Clark's Pumping Shop
phone line when we finish up. Hang around for Clark's
Pumping Shop BBN Radio with Darren Hendrick. It is a
one hour insider's look at UK athletics hosted by Darren
(22:38):
and his guests tonight include swimming and diving coach Spread
long Guard and men's golf coach Gabe Todd. So that
is coming up on the Clark's Pumping Shop BBN Radio.
Let's get to a question from Ben at UK Sports
Network asking about miss Tackles. His observation is that you
(22:59):
guys are wrapping up.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Do you see any of that? Yeah, he's probably talking
about a couple of plays on Lenoris and he's he's
one of those guys. He's he's so big and in
big strong legs and he's a guy that you have
to wrap up, as Ben is talking about, and uh,
you know, be very sure with getting him down and
he did. He made us miss at least two times
(23:23):
that were were sacks that he got away that he
created big plays on and that that is hard, you
know and frustrating, you know overall, Tom. But you know, again, defensively,
we're you know, we're pretty good in a vast majority
of that game. You know on first second down, as
you mentioned, you know in the earlier segment. You know,
(23:46):
first down, we're pretty efficient defensively with stopping the run.
And then you know, there was there was many cases
in that game where we played light in the box
and short in the run game and still stopped him,
you know, which was you know key to try to
you know, stop some explosive plays. So you know, there
was some really good in there, but certainly some mistackles
(24:10):
that had been referring to with we definitely can wrap
up better, and then you could give Leonoris some credit
once again, because he makes somebody miss every week.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Your defensive line is playing really well.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
Yeah, they really are. Guys are playing really hard. I
thought they played really stout up front. You know, there
were a couple of cases that were frustrating. You know,
we had a one or two designed you know, twist
games and pressures where you know, we had Leonoris in
a tough spot and just you know, a guy on
the edge maybe needed to set it just higher. And
(24:44):
we worked it, you know, so hard, and you know
we had a guy in position, but it wasn't just
quite high enough, you know what I mean. Lenoris just
you know, gets out of it, and and I thought
we had an opportunity possibly even to get the ball
out of one of them because he was stiff arming
a guy and the ball was straight out behind them
and we had guys coming from behind. We just needed
to set the edge just another yard higher. You know.
(25:06):
It's just things of that nature. And that's you know
what talk to the team about just just you know,
executing everything and being very precise with that. You know,
their effort, you know, I give them credit, Like you're
talking about the guys that are playing hard, their physical
they've been you know, they've been relentless. We just we
just got to be better.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
You're able to roll in a fresh set of legs
on drives and doesn't seem to lose much of any production.
Tavian Gadson is a good example of that, coming in
the second group.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Yeah, Tavon was you know, our defensive player of the game,
and you know, really disruptive and played very well and
you know, was was strong in the run game, got
some pressure on the quarterback you know, you know, executed
his assignment all the time. So he was very reliable.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
From Philip at UK Sports Network, defense always looks solid.
Why what's with the struggles on the offensive side. How
do you get that better?
Speaker 5 (25:57):
Yeah, it is, it's it's frustrating. I get it, you know,
and you know, I think you know, you look at
the game and we started, you know, very physical. We
were able to run, we were able to throw, We
kept them off balance, you know, we got the ball
on the perimeter, and then you know, we stalled out.
I think a big part of it, you know, obviously,
is is the turnover. And you know, you get in
(26:18):
within three plays. We gave up fourteen points and that'll
stall a lot of offenses. And certainly when you're you know,
you know, starting a red shirt freshman at quarterbacks. So
then I'm not sure if it was the very next possession,
but a couple of positions were backed up. We had
already turned it over twice, you know what I mean
that that gets pretty tough on the road, and you know,
(26:40):
it takes a couple of possessions at least one or
two out of out of your hands as well. Also,
it was a game that the possessions were at a premium.
I want to say it was eight to eight apiece,
you know, And and so you know that's not a
lot of possessions of both teams. You know, started the
game with long drives that took a lot of time
(27:01):
off the clock. We scored seven and then they came
back and scored seven and converted several third downs. So
two long drives to start the game. So you know,
possessions were going.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Quick when you're trying.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
And Sean as something also about the offense that he's
been in the stands for twenty five years. How to
it's not been what he wants to see for the
last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
How do you.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
Do that when you have a young quarterback that you're
working with, how to how do you help him improve
as quickly as you would like him to. But also
knowing that it's not going to happen overnight.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
Yeah, I mean that that's just it. It's not going
to happen overnight. Cutter is going to do some very
good things he already has and you know he's going
to take some lumps and you know around him. You know, again,
we have to do things better and help him out.
I think, you know, again, the offensive line was better,
but not perfect. You know, we definitely could have given
(27:58):
him some more time and there were some plays there
if we just have a touch more time. And that's
that's something where we need to you know, all execute together,
you know, all the time, and we're not doing that.
And you know, so, uh, you know, we have to
overcome some things and some deficiencies, and in order to
do that, we need everybody to play at their best,
not have a breakdown here and not a breakdown there.
(28:20):
And it's not for the lack of effort and not
for the lack of Karen, because they're working really hard.
You know, the mentality is there, you know, the offensive line,
you know, we want to you know, uh, I had
two offensive linemen go out as captains this week and
and you know they came back and you know and
before well actually before they went out, as we were talking,
they wanted the ball and they wanted us at the
(28:40):
tone and so I said, good, go for it. You know,
we went the toss, take it, and they did, and
we went right down and scored. But we we definitely
were not able to sustain that.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Well.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Uh, we were all surprised. I know in press box
would to Gabriel hit the mic on them and they said, well,
I think it was it tie. Maybe he said we
want that ball. Yeah, I don't know, and then they
went out and backed up the talk.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
I don't know. I just give them the instructions. I
put my headset on, and then I wait to see
whether we're receiving or kicking.
Speaker 6 (29:10):
So let's go to the Clark's puppet Shop phone line, David,
What do you have for coach?
Speaker 20 (29:15):
To David, I just want to tell you, first of all,
thanks again for having us a practice last last season.
My family and asked me and just coach. I know
that these days there's a lot, a whole lot of
regard given to how highly ranked your recruits are for
(29:38):
five star and have there been opportunities or times when
you passed over a player with with high high stars
coming in that that that you are concerned with attitude
and and and the character and that kind of thing
is more. I think I know the answer because you're
(29:59):
a guy who want some good character players.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
Yeah, yeah, definitely, David. You know, we definitely have and
you know, we we try to do the best background
we can, you know, I you know, talked about it
a lot this offseason, but you know, we had a
lot of turnover, more than normal this year. I think
in this day and age, everybody's turning rosters over much
(30:21):
higher than we used to. And we have to do
an awful lot of work and a lot of research
and sometimes in a short amount of time. And we
really tried to be very thorough this year. You know,
you're never going to be perfect. But overall, I love,
you know, the guys that we added to this team
and the character and the work ethic that they have,
and it's been a really fun group to work with.
(30:43):
And uh, you know, but but yes, to answer your question,
you definitely have to do that. You know, we you know,
firmly believe and know that better people make better players.
We've you know, done some very good things with some
lower ranked recruits in the past. I mean, it's definitely
different now. You have to expediate that process as far
as the development phase and in the talent threshold, does
(31:06):
have to be there. I mean, let's be honest, we
compete in the SEC and it's outrageous the talent that's
accumulated in this league, and so you know, we we
definitely have to hit that baseline for sure.
Speaker 6 (31:19):

where you send and questions for our show. Like Larry
has done. He says, he's from Corbin where you have
the Smith brothers playing well for you. He says, with
a pro style offense. Besides great quarterback play, what are
the other key elements?
Speaker 5 (35:15):
Yeah, you know it's you got to have the balance,
you know, definitely, you know you want to have some
misdirection and you know you can no longer just you know,
line up static and just run the ball. You want
a lot of motions and you know we have that,
and you know you got to be able to run
zone schemes and gap schemes, which we're doing that. We're
(35:36):
running the ball efficiently, you know, the vast majority of
the time. But you know we have to create explosive plays.
We have to find ways. You know, we have to
give the quarterback time. We got to get get the
ball down the field, and we got to have some
receivers that can separate and make contested catches, and we're
just you know, we're just off in any you know,
(35:57):
any one area here and there, and it's just setting
us back.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
We fall up on something you mentioned during our postgame interview,
and you said, did you go back and look at
the tape and see are we maybe asking them to
do too much? Do we have to pair some things
down and try to execute fewer things well and then
build back up. Do you see any of that after
watching the tape?
Speaker 5 (36:17):
Yeah, I think that's fair. You know when when we
talk about it after games and you know you hear
me talk or you know, press conferences, and you know,
when we got to look at things and say we're
all in this together. That's not coach speak. I know
everybody's you know, I'm sure after a lot of years, Tom,
what's that saying? You lose ten percent every year when
I'm there here thirteen years, so I've lost a lot,
but you get but a lot of a lot of
(36:39):
my fan base. Huh. But you know it's not just coach.
You know, I'm not just saying that to say it.
You know, we are all in this together, and I
have to look at all those things. And definitely when
we have two weeks, you know you want to you know,
this looks good and that looks good, but but it's
also time on task, like you know, what are we
getting really good at?
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (36:59):
You know, and you know we have a lot of plays,
but are we going to get to them? You know
what I mean? And and that's where you know our
execution just you know, and and listen as a coach
and you know, as a as a as a defensive
play caller when I was calling defensive plays for many
many years, you know, sometimes you want to throw so
much at the wall, you know what I mean, and
hope something sticks when you're maybe not playing as good looker, Yes,
(37:21):
you're looking for answers, and so you know, we we
definitely are looking at all of that and making sure
you know that that you know, we're not asking too
much for our players are asking to do things they
can't do.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
I know you have a lot of respect for coach
Rich Brooks. I remember when they were going through a
rough patch in the middle of six came out of
it to win a bowl game. But they got Billnette
forty nine zip at LSU, and he talked about those
kinds of things, about simplifying and just getting back to
a lot of the basics. And you know, as we
talked after the game Saturday, you have something you can
(37:56):
build on with the way you're running the football with
Seth in particular.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
Yeah, definitely. You know, we want a lot of games
with being able to run the ball and playing good defense.
And we're playing really good special teams right now. You know,
we obviously can't turn the ball over and uh, you know,
we we've we've got to you know, developed fast, you know,
with with a you know, a young quarterback that's you know,
relatively inexperienced, but very talented. And you know, once again,
(38:20):
it's all of us making sure we're putting good plays
in things he can do, making sure we have the
protection and guys showing up and making some catches for
him too.
Speaker 6 (38:28):
From Lee, he says he wants to know why you
wouldn't simplify the game plan to give Cutter some easier
completion slants throws to the running backs of tight ends.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Well, you know, again very you know, good point and
you know, point well taken, and things we've definitely talked about,
I mean, to his point and what I want like
the slant, you know, with something that is simple and
in the game plan. We just missed it by half
yard and turned into a touchdown for them. So we
had a slant, We had a slant open, you know,
so we just got to hit it.
Speaker 6 (38:59):
So that comes back to the e x P.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
Yeah, exactly.

second dance.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
Seth McGowan seventeen.
Speaker 6 (43:17):
Rushes for one hundred and twelve yards and one touchdown
on Saturday, his second consecutive one hundred yard rushing game,
third of his career. And here's the interesting though, first
UK player with at least seventy five yards rushing and
a rushing touchdown in each of the first four games
since George Adams in nineteen eighty four. You weren't here then,
but he was one of the all time best high
(43:37):
draft pick. May have been first round by the New
York Giants and from Lafayete High School right here in Lexington.
So and his son Jamal played for LSU went into
the league. So anytime you can be the first one
since George, you're doing well.
Speaker 5 (43:52):
As we mentioned Jamal, Jamal was a great safety.
Speaker 6 (43:56):
Yes, And speaking of Seth, here's a comment that he
had when he was interviewed by the reporters after the
game on Saturday. But listen to that and I'll get
your coming.
Speaker 25 (44:05):
Honestly, I think it starts in practice. I think it
starts away from practice. And you know one thing, I'm
going to challenge myself and all of these guys to
do is to for addressing anybody else before speaking on
anybody else. Let's try to address the man in the
mirror first. And so, you know, I'm excited to see
how the teams. I think we're going to respond well today.
(44:27):
And you know, ultimately, I think that's what it is.
I think there's got to be eleven guys out there
doing their job.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
So I guess you liked here, guy, Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 5 (44:36):
It was one of the first things I talked about
today is owning it, you know what I mean, And
went through a lot of the principles that you know
go along with that. But you know, Seth is exactly right,
you know, and take a good look at yourself and
you know, anything you can do to improve and affect
people in a positive way.
Speaker 6 (44:53):
After that, he got overzealous of the touchdown celebration. After
his score through the ball, he said he was throwing
it at the wall, shrubs at the wall, and it
he missed high and it hit a fan and he
apologized for that. Yeah, so he was going to reach
out to because Lauria Sells Seller's grandfather too. It reach
out personally if he can.
Speaker 5 (45:11):
Yeah, I don't think he knew at all, even after
he apologized at first, I don't think he knew Oh
yeah it was. I didn't either until right before my
press conference today. And you know, but you know that Seth.
It doesn't surprise me that he immediately, you know, owned
it and made a mistake and it certainly was not
intentional and he's man enough to immediately say I'm sorry,
(45:31):
and you know that's not right.
Speaker 6 (45:34):
Terry sends it a question at UK Sports Network, why
do why do we start out hot and can't finish games?
I think he's talking about the opening series. That's a
scripted series.
Speaker 5 (45:44):
Right it is. I mean, but you yeah, I mean
it's a it's a fair question. I mean I'd like
to know too, believe me. I think you know, people
do adjust and uh, you know, you know, but it
was a it was a great start. You know, we
created some explosives. We did a nice job of mixing
the run, We got the ball in the perimeter. We
hit some passes, uh you know, weren't thrown you know,
(46:05):
down the field, but we created some yardage in the
past game and you know, so you know, we we
have to get back to that. I think, you know,
the first two drafts were good, and as you and
I were talking about Tom, it was into the third
when we when we drove it into their territory and
got the funnel, you know, and then you know, a
few plays later we get to tip pass for a
pick and I believe the next position we took over
(46:28):
backed up, you know, and got and that's where you know,
after you go to to defensive. If you give up
two defensive scores in a row and you're backed up, uh,
you know, we're probably pretty predict predictable run at that
point in time.
Speaker 6 (46:41):
Chris asks if you could considered going to the wildcat formation?
Speaker 5 (46:46):
No, not not right now.
Speaker 6 (46:47):
No, have you considered getting Linn Bowden back to run that?
Speaker 2 (46:52):
He was quite good at it.
Speaker 5 (46:53):
Somebody called Lynn. You know, we'll take him. Now we
have confidence and cutter, and you know, we just have to,
you know, get the threat of the past game going
because the run game is benefficient right now and now
we got to get to play action pass and get
the ball down the field.
Speaker 6 (47:08):
If you have a question for coach tups, you could
send it into at UK Sports Network. You can give
us a call on the Clark's Pupping Chef one line
any of your young guys on defense or offense, but
defense in particular, I think I see some young guys
that are getting a lot of action. Anybody making a
particular move, I know, it's all little more. CJ Works.
Speaker 5 (47:26):
CJ Works is definitely a guy, yeah, that jumps out
at you. We've been playing more in base personnel when
they're in big sets and twelve personnel sets. CJ has
been in there playing and doing well. He's a guy
that has a lot of talent. You know, he's got
some great size to him at six four, six', five you,
know he's up to two fifty five, maybe and a
(47:46):
guy that we think has a real bright. Future he's
one that's you, know showing up quite a.
Speaker 6 (47:50):
Bit Landon watson getting some snaps the other night transfer From.
Marshall he gives you a little more beef that inside linebacker.
Position how's he?
Speaker 5 (48:00):
Coming, yeah he's coming, along you. Know, landing you, know
has fought some injuries through camp and is you know
healthy right now and playing good. Football and as you,
know we're going to need, them you, know inside linebacker
in this, league you, know taking a lot of, shots
a lot of, hits and so we'll Need landen to
come along as.
Speaker 6 (48:17):
Well if you have a, question you can send it
in on x AT Uk Sports. Network you can also
give us a call on The Clark's Pumping shot phone.
Line when you put in the tape Of Georgie, upster
that's not the most fun thing to do when you
have to play the. Dogs but what do you see
in terms of anything that you haven't seen in past?
Speaker 5 (48:34):
Years you, know when you put on The georgia, tape
you know a lot of times you, know these, players
they're they're, interchangeable they're they're they're always going to have, talent,
right they have very good, PLAYERS i, mean but Typical.
Georgia they have a quarterback that knows their, system that's
very efficient in their, system you, know and gunners at
(48:54):
a heck of a. Player their running backs is almost
it's ridiculous how deep they. Are they actually play five,
guys you, know and and and some just like you
would think with A georgia, team very talented running backs
and and big and strong on the offensive. Line a little,
inexperience but they got to play a lot last year
because they had some injuries to the old, line and
(49:15):
so some of those guys. Played they're actually playing some
freshmen as. Well and, then, uh but they're, big very,
physical and they, wanted you, know they want to own
the line of. Scrimmage they they you, KNOW i, think,
uh you, KNOW i have a great relationship With. KIRBY
i think the world of. THEM i have a ton
of respect for, them you, know and and, uh you,
know both of us want to be physical and play
physical and, uh they certainly have some big guys and you, know,
(49:38):
uh AND i think they're they're they're they're better at
receiver this, year you. KNOW I and that's saying a,
lot because they're you, know they're they're a great team every.
Year but, uh you, know SO i think they're they're
a very good football. Team it was one heck of a, game,
uh this past week with them At.
Speaker 6 (49:54):
Bama if you have a, question go ahead and send
it in or give us a. Call we have one

questions when we. Return this is The Mark Stoops. Show

Commission welcome back into the. Show Clark's Pumping. SHOT Bbn
radio is coming up next on many of these same.
STATIONS i don't think they've got anything with the volleyball
(53:26):
on the schedule, tonight but the volleyball team is number
three in the country and Beat georgia On friday night
to go to two and zero in the. League Lizzie,
Carr Andrew carr's younger, sister had a personal best thirteen
kills in that. Match they are on the. ROAD i
think to ole miss On friday night this week to
(53:47):
try to keep the winning street. Going in sec play
for Coach skinner And. Company if you have a, question
we have a little time. Left you can send those
into AT Uk Sports network or call us on The
Clark's Pumping shop phone. Line we're talking About, georgia a
typical dog's team to go to face On. Saturday but
last year your guys took them right down to the
(54:07):
last second and. LOST i think it was thirteen twelve
one point. Loss, yeah when you watch that, tape what
do you see that you can show your guys to, say,
look if you do, this you'll be in.
Speaker 5 (54:19):
It, well you, know just like last. WEEK i, mean
you can't make the obvious, mistakes, right you. Can't you
can't have the the game changing mistakes where you, know defensive,
scores special team, scores you, know thing things like, that
and you know they're they're tough enough to. Stop you
can't give them. Points and you know we made them
work hard for all their, yards all their. Points and you, know,
(54:42):
OFFENSIVELY i thought our guys really competed, hard you, know
made some tough plays against the dynamic defense and just
just competed at a high. LEVEL i mean we had
an electric crowd at. Home you, KNOW i would have
loved to delivered and got the. Win but you, know
certainly proud of our guys and how hard they played
and the plan that we. Had we just you, know
got to find a way to make more plays in critical.
Speaker 6 (55:03):
TIMES i know it's not as as explosive as you
want it to be, Offensively so the plan has to
be along the lines of just minimize mistakes and let
the other guy be the one to make the first
mistake and then try to take advantage of that put
get them to feel a little bit of the.
Speaker 5 (55:20):
Pressure, well that's just, It, Tom and you, know, listen we've,
been you, know talking about that and every a lot
of people. Do you, Know it's like you fight that
balance of like when to be, aggressive when the back,
off you, know when the cutcher. Losses you, know certainly in,
hindsight you, know after giving up a, sack you know
that went for a. Fumble you, know in that situation right,
there you know you wish you would have done things
(55:41):
a little, differently, RIGHT i, mean because punting the, ball
pinning them and having them make a, mistake like you,
said you, know certainly would have been. Better you, know
we felt, like you, know we have a ton of
respect For South, carolina and Certainly leonoris and their their whole.
Team you, know but we we knew it would be a,
good good game and you know we could defend, them you,
know and you knew they we're gonna make plays like they.
Did but you also felt like you could defend and
(56:04):
play well and try to get that. Turnover and you,
know we had our. Opportunities we had our opportunities a year,
ago as we talked about with the ball floating, around you,
know you got to get get some. Breaks but you,
know credit, them they beat us hands, down and, uh you,
know but, yes there there's opportunities. There you can't make
the obvious mistakes and we we just you, know you
(56:24):
can't lose the turnover battle for. Nothing you got absolutely no.
Speaker 6 (56:29):
Chance Abel ross is doing a really nice job the.
Speaker 5 (56:32):
Field very very good. PUNTER i mean he. Is he
is a special, player you. Know he he places it very,
Well he gets great hang, time he creates great. Distance,
again you, know you go into that game And South
carolina's leading the country and overall special teams by, far
and we win that battle against. THEM i, mean not
(56:55):
only did we just hold, up we actually won that,
battle and that that's hard to. Do so our guys
really did an excellent job in special teams AND i
thought we had a great. Plan, yeah they go To.
Speaker 6 (57:04):
Georgia they've, always it seems as long AS i can
remember following college, football been really good in the kicking.
Game and right, NOW i, mean you have a punter
that gives you a chance to make the other team
probably have to get at least one more first down
every time you exchange the, possessions and you have a
kicker that hasn't missed yet as a field.
Speaker 5 (57:19):
Goal, no, no knock on. Wood thanks for bringing that. Up,
now He's we've been very. Solid and you, know generally
when we're talking about special teams is because we're you,
know we're doing things. Right SO i don't want to
talk about it for the wrong. Reason.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Here good luck down between the.
Speaker 5 (57:36):
Hitch all, right thank you very, much appreciate.
