Speaker 1 (00:00):
Locking inside, therefore getting you closer to the game you love.
With Nadeen Wilson, Anna Stanley and Jenny Woods.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
It by News Talks.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
At me shut out and welcome to Inside Netball.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
We have just tipped over the halfway mark of the
am Z Premiership, so perfect timing to speak with Dame
no ling Toto and get her take on the skills
and form on display to date. But before we get
to NAO's gin, your thoughts on another weekend of large
winning margins.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Well, it was amazing, wasn't it. The thing that stood out,
like the proverbial is all the away teams won again?
Good lord? You know how often does that happen? That
first game steal tactics, I was taken with Paris Lockertoy.
It was her fiftieth game and I thought she's just
getting better and better and better. And the other course

(00:47):
wing defense was very interesting was Jane Watson when Lockertoy
at the very end of the game went off with
cramp or something and I think, you know, Watson had
about five minutes with that bib on her chest. So yeah,
no good.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
On everage winning margin.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
I went through every game so far, five rounds in
everage winning margin of thirteen quite significant. I think round
three there are a couple of close ones within five
Magic Tactics within four of each other in that Steel
Mystics game, and Dunedin was by one the other only
close games we've had. So I am hoping as we
venture into the second half of the ain Z, we're
going to see that consistency and we're going to see closer,

(01:24):
more contested games.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
The big one for me was Pulse Mystics.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Of course, we all chose the Pulse because they were
great the week before. Mistics didn't have Done Wallam, didn't
have Holly Ray, and by gosh, they pulled in Sophia
La fa Eli ended up getting MVP forty four from
forty five. But I said it in commentary because I
did that game. Their attacking and the Mystics are generally

(01:47):
always very good. Toy Harv is very good. Philde Villie,
I think is quite an understated player. She just slots
on the end, does your job. For me, it was
that defensive end. The master stroke was putting Mikayla Sokolic
beats and Jenet gold fence.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
The pressure that she was applying out the top.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
She just obviously got told to grind down Matido, and
then when Matuto would get the ball and put it in,
she'd be under pressure and Hall would pick up the
m septs.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
That's exactly right. I mean I thought, should she be
there always? I mean, I guess she's had to move
to make way for Phenix Kartaker. But if Karloka's not there.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
You could switch Ray to win defense.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I guess when she comes back, you know there before, right,
I remember playing at wing defense.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Well, she had to because she was but short for gold.
The same problem that so luge beats in hairy. But
how short is too short?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
How lucky that the mistis have options now? And for
her to step up like that. The talking point for
me out of the weekend was and I think you've
just raised it there, Annie. We thought the two point
shot would bring margins closer on average. I'm wondering if
it's that she's stretching it out because people now are
persisting when they're down to go for that two point shot,
and actually the margin sometimes is increasing because it's harder

(02:57):
to get the rebound.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
So you're one. There's that real fine balance.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Do you take the one bank on the fact, you'll
score a couple of ones quick or take the two.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
So you know that for me was really all GM once.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Well, no, I'm just gonna say, arguably, the team that
has the probably the most able long shooter Amelia Andasio,
didn't take one two pointer.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
In fact, I don't think the Magic took any at all,
and they didn't one. Why would you when you have
been winning the last two weeks aren't taking any. I
don't think the Ali Bird, I don't think it's taken
one this whole a premiership so far, and they're sitting
at the top of the table.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
So interesting, isn't it. I think although they watch the two,
I think we do.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
We have put a lot of emphasis on the two
point shot, but I think you'll probably find that the
teams that are there at the end will be the
ones that can sink the ones. And you're right, Jen,
it was the Awaitings. The Tactics got the win over
the Steal, the Mystic's got the win over the Pulse,
and the Stars went down yet again heavily to the Magic.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Well, they've lost since our last pod. They've lost Kate
Burley for the season. She reaggravated the injury. Yeah, I mean,
what a bummer.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
It's been to see accuracy on the shot for the Stars.
I mean about fifty nine percent, you know, not good enough.
She's getting relatively good volume, do.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
You Since they did the right thing though by not
starting her, I wonder what that would do to your confidence.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
To me, it looked like she had lost her confidence
by the end of the game. And again it was
because she was going for that two point shot. And
you wonder if that starts playing in your head a
little bit, because she was right under the post at times,
could have got easily got the one, but was trying
to catch up. And I do remember actually Timmy Putter
Bailey's saying to her during one of the breaks, you
don't have to fix everything.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
They save the world.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
You don't have to save the world. Go out there
and just play your game. So you know, interesting, certainly
tough Timmy Putter Bailey coming in first time as a coach,
and it's been it's been pretty tough. I heard her
in one of the breaks and everything she said was
bang on, but you could almost see.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
That frustration in her eyes, like you can't.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Maybe it's just because we know who well enough and
you exactly what she's thinking. So it's it's been a
tough old round for some of those new coaches. So
what does the coach, the Dame herself think, Well, Dame Nolene,
she's been clocking up the airpoints, spending a fair chunk
of time in Australia and a specialist coach role with
the New South Wales Swiss. She's also been doing a

(05:17):
bit of PD personal development.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
She's had a big all.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
She does have a big year head with New Zealand
hosting the South African Protears in September before matching up
against our old foes the Australian Diamonds in October. And
today she has kindly put aside some time to speak
with Inside Netball.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Inside Bedball on my Heart Radio.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Welcome, No, I was so great that you could join us.
It's been a while since we've seen your face.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
So lovely to see.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
You on our screen. We're at the halfway mark in
the A and Z. We haven't spotted you actually even
on the TV. What have you been up to?

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Haven't been watching? And what do you think so far?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Look, I have been doing a bit of PD and
you know I keep saying you know, a builder has
to build in my line of work, so getting out
and about making sure that I can keep my hand
in and on court has been really important for me.
So I've done a stintover with Sydney Swifts again as

(06:18):
I did last year, working and getting building that relationship
with Briany Akle, and then I've also done a bit
of PD as well, looking at high performance environments and
you know, trying to find that gym as to what
we can do better, what I can do better as
we lead into the International Series at the end of.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
The year, and I guess five rounds in Knowles, is
there any team or players that have that have stood
out for you so far?

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Oh? Look, I'm really actually enjoying the competition. I sort
of feel, you know, I've watched all the games the
beauty of beauty of huddle or broadcasting, and really excited
by I think physically all the teams have definitely improved
on that, loving the two point shot and the innovation

(07:10):
that's happening with the coaches getting up and taking the
breaks as well, and what's happening in that environment. Really
loving I think the skill sets have improved, So you know, overall,
I think there's been a significant improvement.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
At times, there were games.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Where you know, one week has been different to the
following week probably. You know, Pulse is an example of
what happened in the recent game against Mystics in saying
that Mystics were sublime. You know, I think it's one
of the most complete performances that I've seen. All of
them did their draft job, but it was well balanced.
So you know, there's been moments of up and down,

(07:53):
but also moments of brilliant play from all teams.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
So the lack of consistency Noles doesn't worry you overly
as a coach.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Always worries me.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
You know, that's that's probably our holy grail, is how
you can keep the intensity but also repeated and being consistent,
whether that's from individuals or you know, at the end
of it, it's going to be the best team that
can stay in that REALM really excited by some of
our players that have been in the Silverfon round for

(08:25):
like the last two or three years so to speak,
and becoming quite mature in their game and very reliable
as to how they play that.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
So you know, there's there's.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
Differences, I suppose, but overall, I think, yeah, it could
be better for some teams.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
What have you thought?

Speaker 3 (08:43):
And particularly the game that we've just had, the stars
and the magic the use of the two point shot.
It you know, sometimes you want to use it because
you're down a lot, but then at times it's actually
making the golf even bigger because then everyone's just going
for the two point and missing. We saw of eight
unfortunately for bal How do you get that balance right?

(09:04):
Because am I right? You wouldn't have Did you coach
when it was fast five and it was a two
point shot? Or have you ever coached when the two
point shots been in play?

Speaker 5 (09:13):
No? I was over in e sc and and when
I had finished with Lightning the following year, they bought
in the two point shots.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
So I haven't experienced it myself.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
In saying that, we've done a lot of research and
every year I have tracked SECN mainly because of the
individuals within that competition. And it has already been communicated,
you're not teams who win the premiership are not put
two point teams. The teams that can just score over,
keep the scoreboard turning over and over might have a

(09:46):
few sprinkling of two pointers here.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
And there, but it's really important.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
That you can't get on the back foot because it's
not going to save the world or you're not going
to save the world with the two point shots.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
So that's the SCN. That's the analysis from the SEC.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, and probably which we haven't done yet.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
Just looking at it, I think it will be similar
to what's happening over here in A and Z. Have
not got any evidence of that, but just sort of
from what I've seen.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Obviously we've had innovations, and I was in the A
and Z.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
We've also got a couple of new coaches, the young
ones like Bubby, Donna and Wendy. As a coach, what
advice would you give to those new coaches first year
in the ain Z.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
One of the things that has come out that I
have observed with all three of those is that like
the legends and themselves, and when you can see, you know,
like when you see them talk and whatever manner that
they are sort of out on court and talking to
their players. Man, they've got their look in their eye,
you know, like whether the down or the pressures on,

(10:50):
you can see in their eye that they actually really
want to win. And I think just verbally what comes
out is maybe influenced by the character and where they
currently are within their growth of been a coach at
the high performance. So that's the first thing that I'd
probably like to notice. I'm loving them being there because

(11:12):
I feel that they would be able to influence their
players to have that competitive sort of I'm not saying nastiness,
but you know, they want to win, and that's great
when you transfer that over to the athletes, and I
feel that I've seen a difference with those teams. I
think probably the second point replying to your question, is

(11:35):
it takes time. You know, three of those coaches haven't
had limited I suppose exposure of being in the pathway,
So for all three the learning on the job and
a lot of times it's not necessarily what happens on
the court, is all the other stuff that goes in
and around it that they're trying to manage and navigate,

(11:56):
and sometimes that's overbearing. So they'll get there, you know,
And that's why I sort of feel just really excited
by having them in the system. I know there's so
much positives from them being there.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Now, as you've talked about the swifts and being over there,
how much I guess free reign do you have with
that group on the on the sideline, I see you
sitting there. There's been some comment on all wow, you
know she's right down on the floor. Is that you know?
Is that okay?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Yeah, Look, they're really lovely.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
They're actually amazing club, very family orientated and pretty much
you've got the free reign while I'm there. My my role,
as I said it is specialist, but getting on cord
and that could range from doing skill sets too specifically
around their defense end. I have stayed away from Gracie

(12:51):
so to speak, stayed away from that end, and she's
getting great specialist advice from Brian in a way. But
you know, they've been very open and willing to I
suppose receive anything that I can offer my Probably what's
in my mindset is they currently have a defense coach

(13:14):
being Dylan, So you know it's a you've got to
be sensitive and respect that environment as well when I
do go in.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Now you've brought up Grace. We couldn't let you away
with not having a chat about Grace.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
She's been playing brilliant. I don't think that's in doubt
by anybody.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
How much influence is a Sawafoon coach do you have
when speaking with net New Zealand when talking about the
board around this whole eligibility chat, Because obviously you've kept
Grace very close to the team. She explained that she's
still part of that leadership group. So where do you
sit in this whole debate at the moment, I suppose,

(13:52):
and how can you influence?

Speaker 5 (13:54):
Yeah, I think with having somebody like Grace probably just
starting off, you know, like we've had people who have
been pregnant and sort of gone away here baby and
come back. So for example, Phoenix comes to mind, Amelia
around at that time. So there's been different people at
certain moments that haven't been part of the program, but

(14:18):
I've kept them in and mainly because you know, like
supply and demand in New Zealand is very limited. Just
because for one moment a time they're not involved with
us doesn't mean that we take them out, so they
can contribute in different ways. And obviously, with Grace coming
back in the leadership space as we had identified last year,

(14:39):
it's just a continuation of that growth for who. Secondly,
you know, like I'm not I'm very biased, So my
role as head coach as Silver Ferns is to win
and I'm not quiet and putting my thoughts across as
to what I feel we need when I'm looking at

(15:00):
the depth not only from this year, but our pinnacle
years is Commonwealth Games and also.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
The Worlds as well.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
So I am very vocal as to my thoughts around
Grace and I feel that I've been open with that
in wanting her back, but also understanding where the pathways
needs to be for the A and Z. Honestly, I
feel there's always options and there's always a win win situation.

(15:29):
It's just about us being able to discuss that. Making
sure we don't chop off the legs of our A
and Z, which is really really important, but understanding where
the A and Z is going to fit and sit
for next year. I think that's a big question mark
that I'm waiting to hear about, but also what happens
with all our other players that do also want to

(15:51):
develop the great thing from our all. My perspective is
it's not off the table and discussions are ongoing with
the board with our CEO Jenny, and that's very positive
in my eyes.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Well, that's great. Keep having that influence on their knowles.
I love that.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
I don't know if it's.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
It's a strong voice.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
I mean talking of Grace, Casey, Leanna, do brain, what
are your thoughts on that, the old girls coming back
and bibbing up. Do you think we're too quick to
turn to experience overbuilding depth or do you think there
is certainly a place for these oldies to come back
and showcase and.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Remember as well.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Hey, look, there's the common word that they say in
this generation is slay. So you know, with Casey, Floyd
and Leana, I've actually put Kayla in.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
His own because I think she's still young.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
You know, she's in her thirties.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
She's a spring chicken. She's a spring chicken.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
So as I say, the word is for those three
ladies and actually even thinking about putting their name forward
getting on court. I've actually been watching Casey over the
last two It sort of really wanted me to watch Giants,
and I thought the game she had last week against
Thunderbirds was just on point.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
Man. She offered a lot.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
She seems like she's got more mobility and a new
release of life, so she's definitely helping there. Probably, I
also reflect, possibly I'm not saying about Julie because she's
in her own boat once again. But you know, those
the coaches been with those teams, whether it Stars and Steel,

(17:41):
you know, they're very new coaches and their ability to
be able to coach out a developing person is probably
an area that they'd have to go into sometime. But
I think also injuries occur at certain times, and if
it's if it happens on a Friday or Saturday and
they're playing on a Monday, just the time and to

(18:02):
get somebody else is always going to make a difference.
But really, my heart, I suppose where it sits is
around the pathways and being in the system once again
is at some time there needs to be opportunities for
our emerging players to get out on court in A
and z. If that's around injury or around contracting, you

(18:26):
know it's time for them to shine. So these are
the balancing act I think as coaches you've got to
be able to suss out. But probably from my perspective,
developing pathways is all part of the game. There's very
good examples, you know of Denel Wallam and her being
injured and what happened with the goal shoot.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
You know, just last week and.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
She's the player of the match and I saw her
in au Tucky, you know. So now clubs have to
look at what are they doing in the pathways? Where
does any and ow and if we're talking about eligibility,
what's their role in ensuring that players are developed, whether
it's at the inn in our level or for their
higher arm you know, for A and Z. So it's

(19:13):
a it's an all system point of view.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
But yeah, I'm in.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
There for pathways as well, for the for the young
ones coming through.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
So in the past, Noline, You've often talked about finding
your spine. Have you found a spine yet?

Speaker 3 (19:28):
For this year, I wish I never said this once
upon a time because every.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
Time I'm getting excited, I am getting excited. This year
is a big hear for US. Twenty twenty five, we hiccupped.
I was shocking against was it England and TJ series
losing that trophy?

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Then holy heck, we get resurrected and we.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
Come to life playing the best games and Constellation Cup
against you know, against Australia probably the first time I
think we've bet them three nil double digits, you know,
and winning the trophy earlier up so it was like
Ying and Yang. But this year, I feel with some

(20:15):
of the players, I'm starting to see that the court
time that they've had in the Silver Ferns are just
starting to cement their own space and reliability around what
they need to do out on court.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
So time will tell.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
I don't want to shoot too soon, but I feel
if we had this interview again at the end of
twenty twenty five, I'll be more confident to say, Hey,
this is the Spine and I'm confident in these names.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
What about some names that you've felt in form in
this A and Z Premiership so far?

Speaker 1 (20:47):
I mean, save you to A.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
I don't know if you saw the game the other day, brilliant, amazing.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
You know, last couple of games, she's sort of started
a wee bit slow, I suppose, but I don't know
if that was similar to where the whole Magic team
was last couple of rounds.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Man, she's definitely shown her X factor.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
It's a treat to what you're on those two point
shots and go to the post time and time again.
Let alone who baseline drives in her elevation, So you
know she'll.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Be coming up against mystics. I think very soon this round.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing her play against I'm
not saying some of the tougher teams, but the teams
that are on the top of the table, to see
what she looks like under pressure. But really excited and
well done to her as to how she's been able
to turn his south around and put amazing presents.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
We're picking a top seven after this.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
She may be in all of our three Yes News
talk ZBB. So she was, and you'll see who we pick.
Our top seven are okay, no, as we finished every
part of this interview with a fast five segment, so
we're just going to quit fire you some questions five
on inside, there's one if you could compete in any

(22:08):
other sport.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
I think I know what she's going to say. What
would it be? And why.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Recently? Am I competing or am I coaching competing? Oh?

Speaker 3 (22:19):
You can do one of each, compete and coach if
you like. Tell us that if they're different.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Oh, well, I will coach NRL and the men's competition.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
So I head there, possibly with a second of basketball
on dot NBA participate.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Not on my dial. I got bandnees and the older
I get. I'm getting worse, so I'll leave it to
the young folks. But yeah, sorry, I can't answer that one.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Well, we'll move right along. If you could take any
three athletes in the world and have them for dinner,
not eat them, but have them for dinner as a guest,
who would they be and why they don't have to
be alive and they could be from anywhere.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
Oh man, what amazing questions I have. Muhammad Ali, who've
been my number one? What happened for dinner? Not for dinner?

Speaker 2 (23:16):
I loved her be with him. I think William Serena Williams.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
Will be just about every single person has said yeah, yeah,
that's good.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, interesting and a bolt.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Yes did you ever meet you saying at the Comm Games?

Speaker 5 (23:38):
No, no I didn't, So it will be very lively.
It'll be a very lively dinner and those three will
be on the list.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
I'm surprised no one else has said act Glasgow Comm Games.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
There was a game on and he came in and
the crowd had to be told, you know, not to
stop and stare well because they all just turned It
was amazing.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Oh my goodness, we're out of your all your different
management teams to think of all the people you've met,
been in teams with, that have been part of your management.
Who is most likely to get you into trouble and
out of trouble?

Speaker 5 (24:19):
And I think maybe say me and Debs.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
And we'll keep the reason why be.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
We won't say anything else, but I think me and
who will get each other into trouble each other out
of trouble.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
And if you had your one last meal noles on
this earth, what's your go to feed?

Speaker 1 (24:44):
If you were to have one last meal?

Speaker 3 (24:46):
God cases was late Lands fray or something last week?

Speaker 5 (24:50):
We're like, Oh, I do like Pavlover, So maybe I
do like Pavlover with strawberries on top bit of cream,
So I work my way backwards. I do like seafood
as well, so that might have to be metal.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
And then maybe maybe just a bottle of champagne.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
Do you eat that?

Speaker 3 (25:19):
You go?

Speaker 2 (25:19):
There's all three?

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Do you eat cannons? Do you eat?

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Can? I?

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (25:27):
Best piece of advice that anyone has ever given you, Hm.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
Well, the one advice that I have passed on is
that everybody goes to the toilet the same way. It
sounds terrible, but it's sort of sometimes up against different
opposition or different people or going into different places and
maybe feeling not as comfortable or confident.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
That sort of got.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
It's got a particular image that sometimes comes out in
my head and calms it all down.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
So and it was actually my mother, soy and I.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
That's great, that was real. I'm gonna remember that one.
Everyone goes to all it the same way. Oh look,
we really appreciate your time.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
You're very generous with your time and how open you are.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
So thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
We can't wait to see the silver ferns and action
in September, lead alone in October and that Constellation Cup.
All the best and we see you on the sidelines
at the an Zen zone.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
Take care, Thanks bye bye. Talking all things Netball inside Nedball,
inside Nedball powered by news Talks be so good to
speak with.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
No, she's always very forthcoming with all her comments, Jen,
what stuck out for you?

Speaker 1 (26:48):
What got those little ears?

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Just like the way she sways around, you know, and
she moves with all these you know words and everything. No,
I thought, no, yeah, well no spine. She didn't want
to give us any names at all, But I mean
we are only halfway through the competition and I guess, well,
it has been inconsistent, hasn't it.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
And she admitted to that, didn't she right that she
has been some inconsistency. But hey, at the end of
the day, they all go to the toilet, all those players.
Don't forget that Discipedia.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
Where you come from the world you do. But anyway,
let's not go into that.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
No visions, too many visions, the.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Too many technicalities any for you.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Yeah, I was just interested that she wasn't prepared to
name any players, but also happy that she thinks that
she's told wone Zealand that she wants Grace and she's doing.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
All that she can to get her back.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
So I like that because as the Silver Fans coach,
she should have a massive influence. She wants to win
and she's going to win better with Grace and Wiki
and her team.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
She wants the best players than you, I thought.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
I also thought it was interesting though, but the same
breath she was saying, but we want to maintain the
strength of the as in Premiership, because I think she
would worry if you know, every second player was off
across the taskmin not that they would be picked up.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
We'll change timing of the competition I think she all
most referred to that as well. It's what that competition
looks like. So well done, Miles. We agree with you
on many fronts. So talking about players, we are now
going to name our halfway form seven. I feel like
we're going to have a few consistent players in this,
but then we may have a.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Few contentious positions as well. Let's start.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
It's funny, Jen, you always want to start defense first,
but that just doesn't work in my head.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Why do that.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
A defender?

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Okay, well we're going to ignore you and start with
I shall bow to your name your goalshop first, which
is also called a gish, which I know you've really
struggled with.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
And then I thought, oh, right is the name of
the but anyway, no, I've quickly quickly caught up. Well,
you can't go past her last couple of games have
been superb savior toy, and I thought, what I like
about her is the way she plays. And I guess
she's got that luxury of playing with you know, the
Silver Firm Captain Echinasio. But it's athleticism, and it's a

(29:12):
way she leaps here and she leaps there, and she
leaps up everywhere. And smiling the whole. No, no, it's
not about the smile. But she's incredibly accurate, and Noline
touched on it actually, she said, you know, the test
will be when she comes up against that Will I
play the mystics this week?

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Don't they?

Speaker 4 (29:32):
That will be a tough feet because she'll be up
against quite a good hall.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
I couldn't agree with you more. I'm going to he
as well at Goldshoot for all the same reasons. She
plays lovely neatball, she's athletic, and I also love the
fact as a goal shooter she's put up the second
most attempts for those two point shots, so she's getting
out there. She's you know, she's showing a bit of
growth in her game, sitting on eighty four percent, so
not certainly not the highest in terms of stats. You look,

(29:56):
Warmsley actually sits at the top. But I just love
the way to plays and I love that the fact
that her combination with the Echiniso has just built that
confidence with the magic and that that could see them
going going forward pretty well. I think she's ninety four
when you just look at the ones. I think her
percentage we can we can agree to disagree on that one,
but I think I agree as well. Touey is right

(30:16):
up there and her partner in crime, I caniso for me,
is at goal attack. She's had the most shots of
all goal attacks. She's also got the highest percentage when
it comes to the two point shot eleven from sixteen.
It's that something like sixty something percent, which is pretty
damn good for a two point shot. Those two in
combination have been outstanding. Gin Do you agree?

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Have you?

Speaker 4 (30:40):
And I do? And I think, you know, I sort
of got the feeling that this is where the Magic
was heading towards the end of last season, and they
just missed out. And that's why I was so disappointed,
if you like, because you know, I thought, Wow, they're
going to be good when they come this year, and
they weren't. You know, they dropped that first game by
quite a margin, I think. But I think they're getting there. So,

(31:00):
as I say again, this round six will be fascinating.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
I Mechanacio as well.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
And I think even in those first few rounds when
Magic weren't doing very well, she still did her job.
And I think she's just the steady, ever reliable goal attack.
She not only shoots, she's quite high up in centa
past receives, so that was an easy one. In fact,
out of all of them, I think that was nearly
the easiest, and the next one the wing attack. He's
a toy Ava. I think we may all have her.

(31:28):
I don't think she has been challenged by many other people.
Maybe sooner, but definitely toy Ava for me, number one
feeds fifth center pass receives incredible.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Obrian was pretty good, but I think we all agree.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
In fact, we've all got the same three attacking line
that's Ekanacio and toy and especially when you look at
Magic Grat, she's sitting fourth on the points table. But
we've got them. So let's jump straight because we agree
obviously with toy Other Hence she's been in our seven
most wigs that we've been putting up on news talks
be social media.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
So let's jump straight to center.

Speaker 5 (32:02):
Jen.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Do we agree on this because we've had a consistent center,
we've often chosen.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
Well, we often have, and I must admit I think
a lot of the centers are playing really nicely, and
I just thought, well, somebody has to stand out. So
I went for Poi because in a team that's generally losing,
which is really hard, isn't it to stand out than
a team that's not. I think she's just driven that
steal mid court every time.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Totally agree, although I thought Taylor Earl had a very
good game yes against Gordon in the weekend over the
the Polsmustics game. But for me, Poi has just had
such a huge influence in that mid court and attacking
for the steal. As you say, they haven't been doing
as well perhaps the steal, but you can always cite Poi,

(32:48):
and to be fair, I'll be honest, I haven't been
a massive fan of Poi over the years, but this
year there is something in her game that has changed,
and she's running really good lines down the court and
I think, you know, she'll certainly be in tension for fans. Well,
I'm going to go against the grain here and go
Gordon because we didn't even think she's going to play
much of the first round. She surprises all she's been

(33:10):
in form. She leads the pack in the middle for
the pulse. She sets the standard. I love the fact
that she not only can attack, she's a great defender.
And when you've got that lovely fine balance in a center,
that can pick up or as well as feed. With
a consistency that she has, that's the reason she gets
my vote.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Again.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
When we jump to wing defense, I feel maybe we'll
have consistency here.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
I've got Edgecumbe.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
I think she's been outstanding, which acci means one, two,
oh the first five I've chosen three from the magic
so I've got Edgekin for wing defense.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Yeah, well, I agree, she has been very good. I thought,
who are they playing the other night? The Stars? Yes,
I didn't notice her quite so much. Not as much
I did notice was Paris Lockertoy, who I always have
had a little pusch on for a great word. But
and you know, it was her fiftieth the other day,

(34:03):
and she just she's she's just so out there. So yeah,
she's mine.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Who wants to be a wing defense? It's the most
thankless position on the quarter, isn't it? Which is interesting
because wing attack is we know adan is the most important. Absolutely,
so you really have to have a good wing defense
to shut down your wing attacks. But I'm going with you,
a dean. I think Edgecombe has been consistently good across
across all five games. She's very quick, her speed off
the mark is impressive, and she gets down on attack

(34:32):
really well, and she's a bit like Socket beats and
always there on that transverse line to support.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Can throw in the long bomb as well.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
So always love a wing defense that's got vision as well,
So she's my wing d And then we move into
the gold defense position, and I'm putting a tactics player
in there because they are sitting at the top of
the table and we need to in there, so I'm
going Burger. Look, I think Mason's been good, but I
think when Burger is on her game, she's the.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Best in the in New Zealand.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
Yep, I agree, And it's the ball she takes and
just the way she flows through down you know, down court.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Yep, she's my gold offense. Well, I've gone X factor Mason.
I get it, Burger, and you're right, she has a
huge influence on the game. But I love Mason. I
love what she's doing. Probably didn't have her strongest game
this last round. In fact, Gabby Simpson I think, came
on at gold defense at one point and Mason went
to the bench.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
But I just, yeah, I love the X factor.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
I hope Dame Noline is keeping an eye on her
because she certainly deserves it.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Goal keep, that's a position. I think there's a few options.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Here, and again I have gone have we gone through
to my half gone Stiffe, I've gone Steel and yes,
probably a little bit inconsistent Stiffe at times. But when
she's playing well, she's picked up some awesome ball for
the Steel. She's going to need to pick up more.
They are playing the Stars in the weekend. Potentially she'll

(35:55):
be up against Bao, so she's going to have to
come out hunt for intercense. But she has got everything
all the skills to be the form goalkeeper. Me any
more effective at goalkeep too than Gold offense. And I
love the fact that we're seeing more of her on
the court. Obviously, she said on the bench a bit
more for the mistics. Speaking of the mystics, I'm actually
going to go Catherine Hall. I think all the goalkeepers

(36:17):
have shown a bit of inconsistency throughout the season, but
when Hall has been in form, both of them have
been against the Pulse, and that is up against Warmsley,
who you'd argue as the number one goal shooter in
the competition.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
She moves well.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
I thought she had a very good game last weekend
with socoletch Beats, and I think she's got great promise,
so I'm going mistakes.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
And I liked both those players, and I do like
both fast players. But for me, oh someone else, I
have got somebody else. And look, you're all grown. Kelly Jackson.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
She did.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
She had a quiet game the other day against Oh
that yes, the young mystic shooter. But I just thought,
you know, she's got form on her side, I think,
and you know, I just think that thought back rather
to the Constellation Cup series last year, and I know
that that is. But I take all these things into

(37:08):
consideration and I put them in a pot, and I mean,
she just shut those Australian shooters down, just was lean
and so no, I've gone with Jackson. But I mean,
I wouldn't be unhappy if either of those subbed on
for her.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
So it's great, it's great.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
They've got a bit of debate, and make sure you
check out our socials so you can debate as well
whether you think we've got it right or wrong. Let's
jump straight to another debate we had on our first pot,
or one of the first pods of the season. We
took a punt and predicted who we thought would make
the top three come the end of the season.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
It was quite an early punt, I think one pint.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
We were feeling quite confident because last year we got
it back on, so we're like, we can do this again.
Currently sitting at the top of the table, Tactics missed
it and then the Pulse. Okay, none of us have
got those three currently as a three combination. As our
an sid finalists. Annie, you went Tactics, Magic Pulse, stick
with or change stick with? Jen you went Magic, Tactics, Mistics,

(38:10):
and this is who we think is going to make
those elimination to.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Stick with it because I think the Magic are on
the rise.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
Ye and I went Tactics Magic Pulse, and I too,
am going to stick with my predictions.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Yes, you and I are the same. I did give
a little consideration for the Mystics. Do I put them in?

Speaker 3 (38:28):
I feel a little bit torn leaving them out, especially
how they've responded. They've lost waloin we don't know for
how long, and then they still pulled off an absolute blinder.
I just wonder with the Mystics if they can do
that consistently. Well, you heard Noel say that was one
of the best Mystics performances that she's seen. The question

(38:48):
mark always around the Mystics is can they back that up?
So that's why I'm just going to stick with the Pulse.
They've got the experience in there.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
We're staying strong, you know, wishy washy and go all
over the place.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
We weren't sure if the Pulse were going to have injuries,
but they didn't. But anyway, that is who we're predicting,
and we're sticking with it. The games this weekend Stars
Steal and that's up here in Auckland, Tactics, Pulse in
christ Church, Mystics, Magic, Mystics, Magic, Who do you think
is going to win that one? I'm going to go Magic, Yes,

(39:24):
just a mix up of it. I think Toy will
be quite strong Overhaul.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
Do you actually I don't know, and I'll go Mystics,
but it'll be close. It could even be extra time
well Magic.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
If they want to shift into that third spot, they've
got to win, and they've got to rely on the
fact that the Tactics will beat the Pulse. So who well, No,
it's been so inconsistent it's hard to know.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
Our pretections have been all over.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
I don't know, because this is the second time they've played,
isn't it who won the first one?

Speaker 3 (39:56):
The tactics pulse, yes, hang on or you're you're you?
You're testing my memory. I can't remember. But look, we's
Todd's notes when you neither. They are sitting in front
of you. But I can't read that quickly.

Speaker 4 (40:08):
It's quite interesting though. The stars steal. Now who's going
to win that game?

Speaker 1 (40:12):
I mean I would steal?

Speaker 4 (40:15):
Yes, that's still well.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
If they want to avoid the bottom of the table,
they need to win it. So oh my goodness, so
many predictions, so many form players, so much information from Knowles.
