An English learner named Jorge from Mexico wanted to know the difference between saying “would want” and “would like.”  The word “would” is part of a group of English words called modals, so I’d like to take a little time to explain what that is and how people can use them in conversation.

If you’re still a little confused and you want some more practice with these two phrases, I recommend checking out my teacher profile on italki.  There, you can book a private lesson with me for as short as 30 minutes.  The link to my profile is below:

Is there a question about the English language or American culture that you want to know the answer to?  Send me a message on Instagram or write to my email address and I’ll make them topics for upcoming episodes.
