Speaker 2 (00:40):
Hello everybody and welcome to Three Keys for your
Journey podcast, and I'm yourhost, greg Jones man.
It is a pleasure to be here andI just thought that today's a
special day.
We are launching our podcast.
The day is December the 10thhappens to be my birthday and I
thought that it would be fittingjust to give you a little bit

(01:02):
of background about how ThreeKeys for your Journey kind of
came about, a little bit aboutme, my background and what this
podcast is really all about.
This podcast is really centeredaround really three principles,
and one of them is communitythat if you think about all

(01:24):
shades of people, particularlyBIPOC folks, what do we have in
common?
We've got to find that.
We've got to find common ground.
There's so many things thathave been set in place to divide
us.
How do we find common ground?
And so one of the things iscommunity and on this podcast my
hope is to interview businessleaders, community leaders,

(01:49):
people that are in the communitydoing the work.
They stand for something, theyhave character, they have a
level of integrity aboutthemselves and really want to
make a difference.
And when I say make adifference, I'm not talking
necessarily on a large scale,I'm talking about at home, in
their families.
I'm talking about in theirchurch community, I'm talking

(02:11):
about in their schools.
I'm talking about just being aparent, being a coworker.
I'm looking for thoseindividuals and this podcast is
really to highlight things thatthey deem key journeys in their
own lives.
Back in 2016, I had this habitof walking through the community
and one day I was walking andfound a key.

(02:35):
It was very interesting.
It stood out, it was a silverkey and I picked it up.
Is this somebody's house key?
Is it a car key?
I wasn't sure it was rusted.
It was bent a little bit likeit had been run over, but it was
just intriguing to me what thiskey meant.
I walked a little further and Iknow maybe it was another 50 or

(02:58):
75 yards, and there was anotherkey, was another key?
This one was gold, and I pickedit up.
Okay, lord has this way of kindof walk when I'm walking to
kind of give me things.
And then I found a third keyover the bridge and I go man,
what is it about these keys?
Anyway, I held these keys in myhand, continued my walk, came

(03:20):
home and I begin to think aboutthree keys.
What are these three keys mean.
And for you out there listeningto this podcast, hope is that
you will be inspired.
You'll be encouraged not onlyby the stories that you hear,
but by the examples that peopleare and by their life and by

(03:43):
their examples and by themsharing the stories.
And so what I've learned isthat over the years, I've been
privileged to work in variousareas of community and various
organizations and have a sphereof influence.
We call that Metron, a measureof rule, and so I want to
leverage that and I want tocreate a platform for those that

(04:05):
can hear and to learn to beencouraged.
So that's the goal three keysfor your journey.
A couple of things I want topoint out.
Secondly, big family person.
So when I think about my familynot only my immediate family
big family person.
So when I think about my family, not only my immediate family,
my wife and my wonderful threeyoung adult children my extended

(04:25):
family goes back to my parentsand grandparents.
It goes back to my mom's and mywife's parents and grandparents
.
And you know sitting around andenjoying holidays together and
celebrating one another andcelebrating accomplishments,
joking and laughing and having agood time.
And you know some annualtraditions that we do Mother's
Day, the fathers, dads, celebrate moms by serving dinner

(04:50):
and treating them like thequeens they are.
And then Father's Day comesaround and they return the favor
and it's always a nice littlecompetition, you know, whether
it's the church, family andserving the local community and
giving radically and giving ofourselves, and whether it's, you

(05:11):
know, showing up for YouthSunday or it's ushering on the
door, or it's setting up for aspecific service, or just
participating in our praise andworship, whatever the case might
be, in our praise and worship, whatever the case might be Just
understanding what family andcommunity actually means.
Sharing a meal together, havingBible study together, all these
things are so significant.
You know, one of the other keysthat I think about is our

(05:32):
influence wherever we are.
So, whether I'm on my job orI'm serving in an organization,
being able to give someone anencouraging and uplifting word.
It means so much because in mylife I'll never forget when I
was 13 years old, sitting inChannel 5 in a little seat and
I'm looking at a lady at thattime who is still here Beverly

(05:57):
Glover.
Bj Glover and she was anewscaster and had this show on
Saturday mornings called theSaturday Review, and I raised my
hand and asked a question andthought one day, what would it
be like to be like her?
Identified her immediately asone of my first mentors.
You all go along and now I'm incollege and still living today

(06:20):
as well.
Miss Dinaveta Davis and takinga library science class and I
tell this story all the timewhere you know, walked in this
is going to be an easy elective.
And one of the first things shesays I think this is going to
be an easy class.
It's not going to be an easyclass and still get a chance to
work alongside her just today, Imean and the wisdoms that I've

(06:46):
been able to learn from someonelike Ms Davis.
So I just think you know, whenI think about this podcast and
the opportunity that we havewith Three Keys for your Journey
, I want you to be inspired, Iwant you to be encouraged, share
your story, your wisdoms.
This is not going to be apodcast.
That's going to be, you know,45 minutes to an hour.
We're going to have segmentsthat are going to be fairly
short, somewhere between, youknow, 15, maybe 20 minutes,

(07:06):
where the story gets told, getsshared, it's digitized on a
platform It'll be launching onour website, which is going to
be ocfoinfo, and that's wherethe podcast will actually live.
We will actually have fan mailso people can actually write us,

(07:27):
let us know what they think, give us ideas how we can
actually improve the show.
So I just wanted to give you alittle bit of background about
Three Keys for your Journey.
It started way back in 2016.
I found these three keys and,you know, oftentimes in my
church family I would have anopportunity to speak every once
in a while and it was alwaysthree points and I would always

(07:49):
say there's three keys.
And here we are now, in 2024,seeing fit to launch this
podcast is going to actuallyhelp to spread what good nuggets
we have within our owncommunities and across this
world and nation.
And so, again, I hope that youare encouraged by this.

(08:10):
I hope this gives you some lifeat the end of the tunnel.
Remember, life is a journey.
We only have one life to liveand our life is short.
I'm also reminded my first jobwas at 15 and a half years old,
at Beechler's IGA, and Iremember that I got a little tag
, a little name tag, and it saidhere to help you.

(08:35):
And I think about that.
And you know, I think aboutyears ago when I was thinking
about I think it was at workingwith the Black Chamber and I
wanted to start some kind ofminority business resource
network.
And now there's such good workgoing on across our cities and

(08:55):
our nations, but you got to be apart of it.
And so I encourage you, seewhere you have interest, take
some time out each and every dayto talk to somebody, to
encourage somebody, to liftsomeone up.
Don't be afraid to go into yourpocket, spend some money with a
business that you know you cansupport, an organization that

(09:19):
you can support, support.
Spend some time doing thethings that are meaningful
within your community, becauseeach one can teach one.
And my last point would be makeevery moment count.
And that just means that ourlife is short.
We don't have control of whenour life is going to end.

(09:40):
We didn't have control when itstarted.
We sure don't have control whenit ends.
So make every moment count.
Again, I'm your host, gregJones.
I just look forward to thisjourney with you, so let's have
some fun together.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
See you next time thanks for joining three keys
for your journey.
