All right, hello, and I was going to say good morning

when you listen to the podcast.
Welcome to Three Keys for yourJourney.
I have a very special guestwith me today, the one and only
I should say the one and onlyBrittany Driver.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
How you doing, I'm doing good.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I'm glad to have you today.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I'm glad to be here.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Fantastic.
Well, our paths go back alittle ways, I think, and then
we found out that we actuallyhave, or had, a very special
mutual friend that recentlypassed away, and so, man, I
don't even want to go there.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Listen, don't do that , Can't start like that.
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Christmas is coming up too.
Let's roll back around.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Roll back around.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Tell us about yourself.
Tell us a little bit about you.
I just want the listeningaudience to know a little bit
about you.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Okay, so I am from Oklahoma City.
I've been here my whole life.
I have a daughter.
She is 10 years old and ohJesus.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
That looks just like you, by the way.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Her personality is a lot like mine too, so we kind of
bump heads a little bit, and Ihave an amazing husband who's
also here filming me, so shoutout to him, I love it, I love it
and yeah, I just.
I love being frugal, I loveshopping and I love traveling on
a budget.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So yes, that's, your business is called.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
That's my business is called Beyond the Budget,
because it's not just about thebudget.
But you know we want to focuson that too.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Interesting.
So Beyond the Budget wasstarted.
How?
What was the inspiration behindyour business?
I got tired of working forfolks the inspiration behind.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
I got tired of working for folks.
So, no really, um, what it was?
Um, I was doing a job inprobation and some of my
co-workers were like how was youable to pay for your wedding?
Your cards paid off, you donebought a house.
So like they see how I'm movingand they're like, can we get
some tips?
You make the same amount ofmoney as us.
And I'm like, okay, so that'swhat kind of triggered it.
I've always been really frugalwith my money and made good

(02:55):
financial decisions and haddiscipline and those things, and
so that just led me to openingmy business.
Once I saw like the companythat I was working for our
agency didn't really value theemployees and for me, like that
was really big as being a momand then walking into me getting

(03:16):
married.
I was like my family is now mypriority.
So I really want to have abusiness where I can have a
little bit more freedom with mytime to be present in their
lives.
So here I am.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Okay, and so how long ago was that?

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Three years ago.
Three years ago.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
And I say that as a pinpoint because you know,
obviously we're in the early, early episodes of the podcast.
We're in the early, earlyepisodes of the podcast and my
hope is is that hundreds ofpodcasts later, we come back
around and check in with you ina year from now or two years
from now and get a chance to seehow you're doing, and so it's
always great to put a pin in Atthis point.
Your business has been inexistence for three years.

(03:56):
Ok, wow, that's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
And now tell us a little bit about who you serve.
So right now I'm servingindividuals who, basically, if
you're living paycheck topaycheck, you need help with
coming up with a debt managementplan or just credit management,
just getting you out of thatmindset of you have to live
paycheck to paycheck.
I know times are hard right nowbut there are things that you
can do and implement in yourlife to not feel like.
Things that you can do andimplement in your life to not
feel like, oh, I got to waittill the next payday to live

(04:28):
your life.
So that is really big for me.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Well, that's fantastic.
Well, that kind of takes usinto part of the purpose of this
podcast is for business ownerslike yourself to really share
keys along your journey.
What would you like to sharekeys?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
along your journey.
What would you like to share?
So and I'll go into detail aswe go but the three keys for me
was shifting my mindset, building my financial confidence
and creating a support system.
Okay, wow, that's going to be.

(05:06):
I love it.
Okay, let's talk about thefirst one.
So for the first one, I alsojust talked to my daughter about
this.
She struggles with math and soshe's like I hate it, I don't
want to do it, but reframingchallenges as opportunities.
So, like I tell her, I'm likeokay, this is an opportunity for
you to learn more, for you toask more questions, for you to

(05:27):
dive in.
And it's the same thing withbusiness.
I've ran into a number ofchallenges within business and
I'm using those as opportunitiesfor me to create growth within
my business.
Maybe that means I don't needto offer that product or service
, or I reframe it to where it'ssomething different that I can
utilize.

(05:47):
For example, I've had well, maybe I won't talk about that
because it's kind of fresh, butI've had opportunities that have
come my way and I have had toturn them down because they just
don't align with my business.
And so, for me, reframing thechallenges is important and

(06:07):
using those challenges asopportunities to grow your
business.
And then another one is justreframing it, reframing your
mindset, because we often thinkthat there's not enough for
everybody.
So if I partner with thiscertain person or if I do this
collaboration, maybe they'restepping on my toes, I'm

(06:29):
stepping on theirs, butunderstanding that it's enough
for everybody, it's not.
The world is not that scarce towhere, if you help somebody,
you're missing out.
And if you're thinking that way, you need to change your
mindset and if you're thinkingthat way, you need to change
your mindset.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
So okay, all right, so with those two things as you
think about them.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I mean, it's great that you tell us that, but how
do they become part of youreveryday life?
So, for me, every day, Iprobably think about business
way too much, but I'mimplementing those things in my
life every day by listening topodcasts, by affirmations,
journaling and taking where I amnow and looking at later.

(07:17):
So, for me, one of the thingsthat I did this year and I
didn't actually post it, but Iwas going to but it was a good
reflecting moment for me to justreflect on all of the goals
that I had for the year and thenI went through and I checked
off all the things that Iactually did and to see the
growth and know that I had allof those challenges, I was like,

(07:38):
okay, I actually got somewherethis year.
Because a lot of times inbusiness we don't look at the
small wins, we don't even goback and compare.
And that was one of the thingsthat I've learned from you is to
go back and reflect on youryear, see what happened during
the year, that you could havemade some changes or where did

(08:01):
you actually get, actually, looking at those numbers.
I know a lot of times we don'twant to do that and determining
okay, well, how much did Ireally make, how much did I
spend within the business, sothat cash flow too, all of those
things are going to tie intoreframing.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Well, it's interesting that you say before
we get to your third thing Ithought it's cool.
As you hear, you're this budgetperson that understands how to
personally budget.
You've been doing that all yourlife and it seems like some of
these same kind of principlesnow you are applying in your
business.
You talked about affirmations.
Are you kind of the person thathas sticky notes everywhere?

Speaker 3 (08:40):
When you get up.
You're looking at something, you're reading something Is that
so for affirmations for me isactually scriptures, okay, um,
and I do have sticky notes allover my home with scriptures, um
, I also have a book called Iwas waiting until we got to the
best-selling author here.
Tell us about your book um, Ihave a book that is called Going

(09:04):
Beyond a Budget and you can getit on Amazon or you can get it
on my website,thinkbeyondabudgetcom, and what
that book has is 30 days ofscriptures and you're able to
journal and reflect.
It also gives you like littleactivities to do, because it's

(09:25):
not just what I say about mymoney.
It's about what God says, andthe Bible actually teaches us
how we should be a good stewardover our money and why, and so I
really wanted to put that intomy book and just feed people
that way.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Wow, that's fantastic .
So you have taken this personaljourney yourself.
You now are helping toimplement some of the same
principles in your marriage.
You use an example with yourdaughter, and now you're taking
your business to the next levelby implementing this within the
community.
Yes, wow, okay.

(10:04):
What's your third key?

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Well, actually we did not go over my second one which
was building your financialconfidence, and I mean that kind
of ties into this is stuff thatI also tell my clients, like
building an emergency fund, understanding your numbers,
which we talked about, and thendiversifying your income.
For example, me writing thebook.

(10:27):
That was never in my quoteunquote plan, but it was another
way for me to also touch thecommunity and build my portfolio
as far as my diversifying myincome, and so that's another
product.
So I was thinking about whattypes of products and services
are needed within the community, and I still haven't found

(10:48):
another book like mine.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
So you know, and I don't know.
I think you're right when youtalk about diversifying your
income, and that wasn't in theplan.
It was really about serving thecommunity.
How do you define community?

Speaker 3 (11:02):
I define community as the people who are reaching out
to me for help.
So for me, I see it all thetime Like it doesn't matter
where I go, somebody's talkingabout finances, it's all around
you.
And so for me, it's the peoplein my community that are
actually wanting and they'rereaching out for the help.

(11:24):
Even if it's not them reachingout, they're making posts Like
you have to pay attention towhat's going on around you to
really know what the communityneeds.
And so for me, it's just likeOK, I saw they made a post like
oh, my check is gone, like, that's a red flag, you know,
like, and so I might even hop ona post and be like OK, well,

(11:46):
let me knowledge.
Like, you know, let me give yousome tips.
It's not always about mecharging you for that.
Yeah, I want to make money, butat the same time, if it's just
okay, you have this one issue, and I see that you posted about
it or you reached out to me, andI do offer free consultations
as well.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
So Okay, wow, that's very, very good information.
Okay, are we ready to move toour third?

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Oh, we are, and this one is about you.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
OK.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
So creating a support system that has been like key
for me.
I think that when we startbusiness, we often think that
our family and our friends aregoing to be the biggest support
system, and sometimes that's notalways that way and we get mad

(12:39):
about it and we're frustrated.
But at the end of the day, they're not your target market.
They're not you know.
They're your friends and yourfamily, so they're there to
support you in different waysand it doesn't always look like
the way we want it to.
So creating a support system isimportant, like those people
who are really like-minded,other entrepreneurs and people

(13:03):
that you can partner with, thatyou can bounce ideas off of.
I feel like that's the mostimportant.
And then also working with amentor, and so for me, I've
worked with Greg for quite sometime and you know, sometimes
it'll be an idea that I needhelp on, or how do I lay out
this proposal?

(13:23):
Just those small things that Ican't call and ask one of my
friends because they're not inthat realm.
And so, understanding thatsometimes you got to change your
circle up a little bit and leanon some people that are
thinking and wanting some of thesame goals as you.
And then also the big one forme is delegate.
Delegate Just because a lot ofthings I can do, but they take

(13:51):
time away from the things that Iwant to do.
And so if I can be more activein the community, and rather
than sitting in front of acomputer and making a flyer or
creating the visuals for my book, why would I not save my time
and my money?
Save my time and my money bybecause you're wasting money,

(14:15):
essentially when you don'tdelegate some of those tasks
that you're not really good atand it's taking you more time to
put those things together.
So just understanding that youdon't have to do it all and you
don't have to do it alone.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Well, I appreciate the compliment and for our
listening audience out there, aspart of what I do is have the
opportunity to do some businessconsultations and consulting,
and that's how Brittany and Imet actually in a business plan
accelerator class, and I happento be the facilitator of that,
and so I think what you'resaying about community is so

(14:46):
true.
I use the word common and unityfind what's in common and find
unity, and that's what you meanby like-mindedness.
Sometimes that's very helpful.
But also I think you mentionedthis before and I think it's
important for our listeningaudience as well you talked
about your aspirations builtyour book, built around
scripture and faith and all thatkind of stuff synergy.
That is the focus beyond just Iwant to become rich or I just

(15:21):
want to become the best-sellingauthor or I just want to become
the.
You know, it's something elsethat we kind of look at things
like we're on assignment, whatis the assignment?
And I want to make sure that Ido the assignment very well and
it feels like you get alignedwith people that also understand
what that means and sotherefore, they can actually

(15:41):
push you.
Before we started the podcasttoday, we were talking about a
few things and just againthinking through what our
assignment is, what we'vealready been granted to do, and
then just going and pursuing it.
Yeah, so, wow.
Well, those are three greatthings.
Anything else that you want toadd Because you seem like you

(16:01):
wrote it right now.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
I don't want to slow you down, no, no that I just
wrote those down and reallyhoned in on those, because I can
go so many different ways andyou know I can talk, um, but
yeah, that those are the three.
Like that really hit home forme.

(16:22):
Um, I know we've talked a lotabout like the support system
and then like the aftermath.
Like I know for me, like thereare cohorts that I'm in or was
in previously and I still reachout to those people and so just
knowing that it doesn't end withthe cohort, even if it's like a

(16:44):
10 week or whatever the amountof time, it doesn't end there.
Like always follow up withpeople and don't just follow up
with them when you wantsomething.
Follow up with them just to seehow they're doing and where you
can help and how you can assistthem.
And it doesn't have to bemonetarily, it can be sharing a
post oh, what do you have goingon?

(17:05):
Or you know, just simple thingslike that.
I think that, again, iscommunity to me.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
I think you have nailed it, that is, I agree
wholeheartedly that, exactlywhat you said.
So all right, brittany Driver,so beyond the budget bestselling
author, like tell our listeningaudience, how can people find
you get in touch with you?
I know somebody out there islike right now thinking I need
to get that book, or somebody islike I'm in trouble and I need

(17:33):
to talk to somebody.
How can people get in contactwith you?

Speaker 3 (17:36):
So you can get in contact with me by going to
think beyond the budget dot comand you can schedule a
consultation there.
It has the calendar, sowhatever time works for you.
And then you can also reach meon Instagram at beyond the
budget, and then I'm also onFacebook at Beyond the Budget,

(17:56):
and I'm on LinkedIn.
But on LinkedIn you can justtype in Brittany Driver and then
to get my book you can type inBrittany Driver on Amazon and
going Beyond the Budget will popup.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
Wow, fantastic Well, I thank you for those multiple
avenues Fantastic Well, I think.
Thank you for those multipleavenues.
And, for those of you, if youdidn't catch what she actually
said, just look in our commentsand we'll make sure that we have
all her Web site contactinformation there as well.
Wow, anything that you want toleave our listening audience
with before we take off today.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
This is sticking out to me, but you are enough.
That is something that I swearby, because oftentimes we don't
feel like it and impostersyndrome kicks in and we just we
don't feel like enough.
And just remember that you areenough.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Wow, I was going to drop the mic, but there's no mic
to drop so well thank you somuch, Brittany, and again
appreciate your time and lookforward to visiting with you
again in the near future.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Thank you, bye, y'all .
