Recovery rarely follows a straight line, as my ongoing health journey continues to remind me. What started as knee surgery in February has spiraled into a complex situation involving a psoas impingement, tendonitis, and an unexpected hip fracture that occurred on my birthday of all days.

From my temporary bed-bound position, complete with monitoring equipment that occasionally beeps in the background, I'm sharing raw updates about my physical condition and the emotional rollercoaster that accompanies prolonged recovery. My leg stubbornly refuses to align properly, though small victories emerge – I can now sit in my chair with my leg elevated and manage a shower with accommodations. These might seem like minor achievements, but when you're navigating life with limited mobility, they represent significant milestones.

The road ahead remains uncertain. Thanksgiving has become my target for substantial improvement, with hopes that my leg will naturally touch the ground by then. My medical team is considering additional surgery to lengthen my hamstrings once we reach that point. Meanwhile, I'm working toward reducing my caregiving needs from two people to one by September 20th, and eventually eliminating the need for pain medications. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to connecting with you through both "A Winding Heart" and my new mental health podcast "She is Her." Join me on this journey of patience, persistence, and small but meaningful steps toward recovery. Your support means everything during this challenging chapter of my story.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to A Winding Heart everyone.
If you hear a beeping in thebackground, don't mind me, I'm
in quiet space, I should saythat.
But that's my monitor going offbecause, yeah, going off
because, yeah, because I amtemporarily, temporarily,

(00:31):
temporarily bed bound.
Geez, we talk much.
Yeah, you're a motivationalspeaker, you should talk much,
but because I'm temporarily bedbound, I have 20.
And then I just put myself onmute.

(00:56):
What am I doing?
And so, because I have 24 hours, the only way I'm going to
communicate with them is througha monitor that I have access to
, they have access to.
So, just in case you hear thatnoise in the background, that

(01:20):
beeping, it's very low but I canhear it on my end.
I think now I can still hear iton my end.
But this whole episode is notgoing to be about that.
This whole episode is actuallyan update on my house, because

(01:46):
you guys haven't really got anupdate on that Now.
I had knee surgery back inFebruary, as you guys know.
I.
I recovered well, somebodyrecovered from that.

(02:07):
Then I.
I guess what I've been told isI have a psoas impingement and
tendonitis going on, and so Isnapped something in my leg.
It went sideways.
I landed up in the hospital, Itried to go to rehab.

(02:33):
I am now rehabbing at homedoing physical therapy, and I'm
improving.
So I am improving, but my God,it's taking forever and a day,
and now we're talking the end ofAugust as we record this.

(02:57):
It's going to be jeez.
I'm hoping to get out of thismess in November, probably
around Thanksgiving.
I'm hoping to get out of thismess.
I can at least get in my chairwith my leg up if I want to, but

(03:20):
I'm hoping to get out of thismess, probably around
Thanksgiving, out of this messpartly around Thanksgiving.
I'm hoping that the week beforeThanksgiving I'm able to get
out of this mess, if not acouple weeks after, because I'm

(03:42):
able to sit up with my legpopped up.
My goal is to get rid ofcaregivers by September 20th.
That's my goal.
To go down to one caregiverduring the day.

(04:03):
Right now I have two and soyeah, that's it's.
My life is a mess, so let'sjust say that.
So I'm hoping to get out ofthis, so as in the week before
Thanksgiving and maybe a coupleweeks after.

(04:26):
I don't, I don't know.
The leg is slowly, slowlyopening up and slowly coming
down.
It's slowly acting like a legagain.
But it's been a stubborn messbecause I fell on my birthday.

(04:50):
I fractured my hip on mybirthday.
That is healing, and now wehave a leg that's getting
misaligned and all that goodstuff.

(05:11):
So I'm hoping by the weekbefore Thanksgiving that I'm
better.
But we'll see.
It's a wait-and-see game.
It's a If it takes to Christmas.
It takes to Christmas.

(05:32):
At least I can get in my chairwith my leg up, at least I can
get in the shower with my leg up.
So we're succeeding on that.
But we just don't have a legcompletely down yet.
I'm hoping the week beforeThanksgiving and I'm hoping to

(05:56):
get off all these pain meds thatI'm on the week before
Thanksgiving.
We'll see what happens on thatone, we'll see, and so so, yeah,
the week before ThanksgivingI'm hoping my leg hits the

(06:19):
ground and it's the right legtoo.
So I'm hoping that my legdecides to hit the ground and
then I might be having anothersurgery to lengthen my

(06:39):
hamstrings after the leg hitsground.
I don't know, because mysurgeon doesn't want to do it
yet until the leg hits theground, but I'm hoping the week
before Thanksgiving or maybe acouple weeks before Thanksgiving

(07:01):
, the leg would naturally hitthe ground.
That would make my life a heckof a lot easier, but we'll see.
So, that said, you can ask meall the questions you want.
I'm available and I will be.

(07:22):
So I will be available, andplus, I have my new mental
health podcast too.
She is her, so go find that, listen to it.
