Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is a digital series from sports and pop culture
to news and more.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Z Yeah, covering it all from A to Z.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Here's A Rod and Zach Siegers. All right, what is
going on? Folks? That is right? It is the very
first edition of A too Z. You heard there in
the Big Roach Voice. I am a Rod alongside my
guy Zach Siegers. Here we are both producers at KOA,
(00:33):
the King of Agriculture, official home radio home of the
Denver Broncos, the Buffs, the Rockies. Zach and I do
it all, and I think this is a since it's
the first episode. Here is before we get into talking
some Super Bowl chiefs Eagles, I thought we definitely need
to get things rolling by giving a little introduction to
ourselves for those that are listening to the full version
(00:54):
of the pod. Of course, you can find all of
our stuff across not only all social PLA platforms, but
also right at the very homepage at Kowacolorado dot com.
You can search A to Z basically wherever you get
your podcasts, right there on the KOA website. Obviously, you're
gonna have our social shorts on Facebook, on Instagram, on
(01:14):
x formerly known as Twitter, on TikTok at KOI, Colorado.
I personally am on x at Anthony Rod thirty three.
I am on Instagram at the Life of a Rod.
I'll turn over to Zach here in a second, who'll
give you all his social handles as well. But real
quick about me, I'm an executive producer at KOA. Been
at iHeart and KOA for about seven years now, currently
(01:35):
producing the midday show Mandy Connell from noon to three.
And I've been kind of all over the place. You
heard me working with Ross, I used to work with
Ryan and Ben on Broncos Country, and I have done
some KOA Sports. I did Big Alan Jojo back in
the day. I've pretty much touched every platform, every station
in our iHeart building here in Denver, Colorado. So if
(01:55):
you're if you're listening anywhere across the country, that's kind
of where I'm at here here at ko and iHeart,
but loving what I do and looking to have some
fun here with my guy Zach, talking all things as
you heard the intro there, all things sports, all things
pop culture, all things news, kind of a little bit
of everything, a poe pourri, if you will. I actually
(02:16):
don't even fully know if that's how you pronounce it.
I think it's Poe Purri Popery, whatever the hell it is.
So we're gonna have some fun here. So I'm excited.
Uh my guy Zach, who's who's has come on here
in the last couple months. We're super thrilled to have him,
and we want to just have a platform where him
and I just kind of banter back and forth about
about all the daily happenings they do. Obviously a heavy
focus in both of both of us are big Broncos guys,
(02:37):
so we're gonna going to dive in heavily to the
Denver Broncos over the course of this program, but we're
gonna have some fun with it. So with that intro
with me, I will now turn over to my guy,
Zach Seegers, who is the z A to Z. We
cover everything, so starting with a ride all the way
to z as in Zach, my guy Zach, go ahead
and tell the people we trowl about homie.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I've been covering the Broncos for a while now, Colorado
native born and raised, so I know a lot about
the Orange and Blue. Started covering them right out of
high school. Literally the moment I graduated, got to work
with Mile High Sports, was on the Broncos beat with
them for three four years, and then now took a
little brief breakover at Chassa, and now I'm back in
(03:21):
the game at KOA. Like a Rod said, I'm doing
some board off work and then I'm also, yeah, doing
this with him, doing some writing over on the KOA
website as well, So check that out. And also have
a podcast I do Let's Talk Broncos on there multiple
times a week, and Let's Talk Broncos dot Com where
(03:41):
I have even more Broncos writing. So I'm all things
Broncos all the time.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Hell yeah, man, hell yeah, All things Broncos all the time.
Is one way to go Orange Blue, seven sixty's red.
That's that reminded me right there, which is one of
my first stations. I started at HIT with iHeart. I
actually started years ago. I don't think I've told you
is that started my High Sports A long time ago.
I was I was interning in my High Sports doing
some of the early shifts, weekend early shifts back in
(04:08):
the day. I've worked actually a majority of of the
radio stations, even a TV station in town too, So
I've I've I've run the game, and man, it's been
it's been a whirlwind. And and like you said, happy
to be happy to you know, be at Koa, Koa
has just been just an awesome place to work. So
just to have another a digital series, got him another
another platform here at at the Mothership is is just
(04:31):
a blessing and and super excited for this and and
super thrilled that both of our direct boss, our program
director Dave Tepper, has entrusted us with this, with this
awesome platform, and he's, uh, he's he's the best. He's
the best. He's the best boss I've ever had. So
I want to give a shout out to him for
for helping them make this happen and giving us the
support and in the platform to have some to have
(04:51):
some fun and be loose and do this because uh,
for those that don't know, so really, I mean producers
at iHeart, I mean we we we get a lot
of cool opportunities. I mean, I do a lot of
this Soul Media act just mentioned is gonna do a
lot of the rite and we also produce various shows.
We kind of run the gambit We're given kind of
all kinds of different opportunities, so this is just another opportunity.
We both hosted Broncos Country Night together, which I'm sure
(05:11):
you'll hear more of that as well. But basically, it's
a it's a it's a it's a great place to
be and this is just one of the many platforms.
So along with with this new show A to Z,
I highly encourage everyone to listen to the shows that
we work on. Mandy Connin from noon to three, KOI
Sports from three to six. I do a little bit
of ross. Ak Segers also works on Broncos Country at Night,
does some k how work which I do from time
(05:33):
to time as well, so you know, across the game.
But every single KOA k How I heart you know
show and platform is is is really really cool and
fun to be a part of and whatnot. So with
that said and the introduction in the rear view Mirror,
let's go ahead and jump into our first discussion here
in A two Z and and obviously the Broncos season
(05:53):
in the rear view Mirror. Well, we'll get to focusing
on the on the Broncos specifically as we get closer
obviously to to to the maybe some Senior Bowl definitely
going to dive into the NFL Draft and then obviously
maybe a bit recap to the twenty twenty four season
for the Broncos. We will tie in the Broncos here
into this episode as they're going to discuss Super Bowl
fifty nine. The matchup is officially set. May not be
(06:17):
in a matchup that everyone wanted, and by everyone, I
mean definitely most people didn't want to think everyone would
have been a lot happier to basically see any other
combination in Super Bowl fifty nine, whether it be Bills
versus Eagles, or Bills versus Commanders, or Eagles versus but
whatever it was, any matchup that wasn't this one. A
matchup a rematch of two years ago Chiefs at Eagles,
(06:42):
which is exactly what we have. And the way I
want to take this direction here is there's a lot
of hatred towards this matchup, and rightfully so because of
not the Eagles. I think kind of everyone has that
general disdain Zach towards kind of maybe you know, Rightfley
so or not, the Philly sports fan base and just
(07:03):
them kind of being ruthless and in the city of Philly.
I think, you know, city or brotherly love. Ironically sometimes
is lacking that with all due respect, but it's not
the Eagles that they're not wanting specifically in this matchup.
I think everyone would love to see Jaalen get his
first Super Bowl, Saquon Barkley get his first Super Bowl.
But it's the Chiefs. It's the Chiefs. Here in Broncos
(07:24):
country and abroad, people are sick and tired of the
Chiefs and more specifically, Zach sick and tired of the
way that Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs get to this stage.
They are now with the opportunity to win their third
in a row, first ever to do that. Tom Brady's
(07:44):
Patriots didn't do that obviously, John Elways Broncos didn't do
that because John retired. But there's a lot of different
teams that have tried to get to this point. A
lot of teams I didn't mention, but a lot of
teams have tried to get this point and it just
hasn't hasn't worked out. In the NFL, no team has
ever won three in a row. But the reason why
that people really hate this squad is because they believe
(08:04):
that they haven't really earned it, that the reps are
in their pocket that this is not the team that
you want to see three P So Zach, first, I'll
ask you the question before we dive deeper into this thing,
just flat out, do you hate the Kansas City Chiefs
for whatever reason? Do you have any shred of hatred
and what is that reason? Any hatred for the Kansas
(08:25):
City Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Yeah, absolutely, I definitely hate them. I think won their
division rival. I think that's easy too.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
I think.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
They're in this especially annoying fan base. Philly fans have
a more of a rep you know, in the city
of Philadelphia and all that, you know, throwing snowballs with
batteries in them at Santa But my god, the Chiefs fans,
I think are among the most insufferable fans I've ever seen.
Like maybe it's the not winning the Super Bowl for
(09:03):
fifty years or whatever, but they just have no idea
like how to handle winning. I feel like any criticism
still to this day, you know, they are so thin
skinned about I think about a former Chiefs player turned
to analyst even in Mitchell Schwartz getting very sensitive about
Sean Payton saying, you know, if we got past the bills,
(09:24):
we felt good about our matchup the next week, and
Mitchell Schwartz gets on Twitter and to.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Do, oh, well, well, why don't we just have the
Bengals and Broncos in the AFC Championship if they feel
so good about themselves they do.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
No one's saying that. But what's what Sean Payn's supposed
to go out there? We're fine, we lost to the Bills.
We thought we were gonna get our tails handed to
us in Casey anyways, so not a big deal.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
We went home one week earlier, like why would you?
Speaker 3 (09:48):
And also has every right to feel good about that matchup,
you know, a blocked field goal away from beating them
in Arrowhead the first time around, and then yeah it
was against the backups, but they shelled the backups thirty eight.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Nothing.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
There's nothing in those two matchups that would have you
going into that case game going whoa, we don't stand
a chance in this one. So anyway, point being, I
think they are a very kind of insufferable fan base
with how they've handled this dynasty. I think, you know,
Patriots fans were annoying. I don't think they were this annoying.
They knew they were the villains and they kind of
(10:23):
relished it, while the Chiefs fans feel, I don't know,
kind of sensitive about that fact was every will going
to be mean to us, and that is especially tiring
to me. On top of all the other nonsense with them.
I think the fact you have announcers just like it's
less so the rest to me. But the announcers in
all these games, just like even games that Mahomes isn't
(10:43):
in anytime a quarterback does something good like oh, it's
a little like Patrick Mahomes. I think the people are
just tired of it. It's been too much of it
over these past few years.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
I hear you, I do. I first of all, I'm
really glad he brought up the Patriots because it's a
good it's a good comparison point because I honestly, even
towards the end of their run, when really, I mean,
they had won so damn much. I mean, it was
it spanned over a multi decade we're talking, you know,
when it started for breaking early two thousands, and he
(11:15):
just retired a few years ago. I know, granted the
latter of years were with Tampa, but I don't remember
this much hatred for the Patriots and that's coming from
a Broncos fan. I remember, I remember the matchups, especially
you know, over the years when we didn't have Peyton.
You know, they obviously you know, torched us, but you
know we kind of got some of the back, especially
when the biggest moments, you know, the AFC Championship game,
to go to Super Bowl fifty. But even then, I
(11:38):
think it was more of a we hate them, but
we respect them, and I didn't feel the general disdain.
And it's hard, it's hard to really describe my words
the difference in the hatred for the Chiefs. But I honestly, man,
here's the thing. If we're already here with this hatred,
I don't know what the next ten years are going
to be because this is what we're looking at. Because
(12:00):
Pat Mahomes ain't going nowhere. This is going to this
is honestly, it's just the beginning. I mean, Pat Mahomes
is already out pacing Tom. I believe it pretty heavily.
I mean this, this guy's a chance to already win
his fourth and Tom only won six with the with
with with the Patriots, I mean, just to tie Tom's
Patriot time, he wins this one and then anytime over
the next two dec the next the next decade, he
(12:22):
wins two more and we're talking to him being tied
with Tom uh with with with New England Patriot Tom.
To answer the question I asked you, I don't hate
the Chiefs at all, and I'm a massive Broncos fan
as I wear my uh now late grandfather's old school
Broncos sweatshirt here, and I feel a little twinge in
(12:44):
inside me saying that out loud on behalf of him,
But I don't hate them at all. I respect the
hell out of him and Pat Mahomes is my favorite
all time player to watch. Where I come at it
as is my main sticking point that I say, you know,
there's there's there's some truth to it is. Indeed the
(13:08):
heavy amount of calls that go their way via the
refs the past AC Championship game. Honestly, the two main
ones that everyone is referencing is obviously the the first
down that wasn't with with Josh Allen that he was
obviously trying to by by the way, Buffalo get more
short yardage plays because everyone can see it coming from
(13:29):
all the way, that looked like a first down. I
believe they called it well on the field, one ref
called it short, one ref didn't. But with the current technology,
despite it looking like it was a first down the
current rule, I didn't have a big issue with that.
But again, just one play, Okay, won't dive anymore into
(13:50):
that one play. The other one obviously definitely looked like
another representation of what the hell is a catch? We
don't know what the catches in the NFL. We still
don't dating act to the days of days, we don't
know what the hell of catches in the NFL, And
it's it's I don't know if we'll ever get it
fixed because I don't know how the hell you determine
exactly what it catches because that no, no catch is
the same as the previous one or the next one.
(14:12):
So I don't know how.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
I mean that one was straightforward, Yeah, it least completecause I mean,
I hit the ground.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
So if it hits the damn ground, it's not a catch, right,
it's not a freaking catch. So that one's not a catch,
but still one plays, Zach. So we're talking two plays
in the AFEC Championship game, thirty yard, three yard play,
but still two plays out of how many plays in
the AFC Championship game to two plays, so.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Two of the highest leverage plays in the entire game. Though,
I mean, explosive plays are at such a premium now
in the NFL because they're nearly as valuable as turnovers
in terms of swinging a game. And then so that's
a free explosive play given to the Chiefs that also
erase the potential takeaway, right, And then the other one
(14:59):
is effectively a and over win. The Bills could go
up to make it an eight point game, potentially a
multiple possession game, and eight point game, I don't know.
I think they would have been game changing. Now, I
agree with you on the first one. I think he
probably got there, but there wasn't enough to overturn it.
(15:20):
The catch one, I think is ridiculous. The Chiefs player
in no way had possession before or I mean, yeah,
before the ball touched the ground. I think he got
possession after the ball had that little touch of the ground.
But that ball should either have gone to the Bills,
or if we want to say the Bills player didn't
complete the catch to your point about not knowing what
it catches fair play, but then it's incomplete.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
With that said, though still two plays. I hear that
the big moment of it. But I gotta say it
is frustrating as it's been, and there's been plenty of
times for the Broncos this season as example, there's been
plenty of frustrating moments where you point directly and exclusively
at the refs. But in this AFC Championships specifically and honestly,
(16:01):
in a lot of the examples towards the Chiefs, when
it comes to the hatred tied to getting calls, it's
a minority of calls. To me, it's not enough, and
I think it's vastly exaggerated to say that the Kansas
City Chiefs are where they have been over this extended
period of time. We're not talking to go for third
super Bowl in a row. Fourth overall, for pat you
can't point to just exclusively the refs as a reason
(16:24):
for hating the Chiefs and their greatness. My point being here,
the reason why I do not hate the Chiefs is overall, generally,
I love to appreciate greatness. I love to respect greatness.
I made a vow to myself and I put this
on X a few days ago, and it's gotten a
lot to run. A lot of people kind of clapping
back of me. I think most of the Broncos countries
were even saying the nice thing about the Chiefs, even
(16:46):
having the audacity to say anything nice about the Kansas
City Chiefs. But it made a vow to myself, Zach,
to respect greatness and appreciate greatness. One, because it's more
makes the game more fun to not hate watch number two.
It ain't going anywhere specifically with this Kansas City Chiefs team. Okay,
in the latter years, with the built up hatred, the
comparable amount of hatred for the Chiefs where it was
(17:08):
for Tom near the end. Okay, it's almost out. What's
over ten more years of this for the Kansasity Chiefs.
Enjoy it for me? I got two. I got around
to this mindset too late with Kobe Bryant. I got
around to this mindset too late with Tom Brady. I
ain't doing it with my favorite player to watch, Pat Mahomes.
I love watching Pat Mahomes. I love watching the Chiefs work.
I think Andy Reid is phenomenal. He's one of the
(17:29):
best coaches of all time. He's gonna go down as
one of the winningest coach of all time. The dude,
it's still the winning as coach in Eagles franchise history,
and he'sn't coach there forever. So the greatness of him,
the greatness of Mahomes, the greatness overall. Do they do
it in the absolute most dominant way. No. But here's
the deal, Zach. What made Tom, what made Payton, What
made the great quarterbacks specifically so fun to watch and
(17:50):
so great is they were up and down years for
their squad. This is not the best Chiefs team that
Mahomes and Andy Reid has had by far. The defense
is damn good, but overall this is not the best
offense that we've had. But Pat Mahomes elevates everybody else,
elevates the squad. Andy Reid elevates the squad. Travis Kelsey,
who's in the latter years of his career, he elevates
the squad. So for me, it's appreciating greatness, and most specifically,
(18:13):
appreciate greatness while you can, because I don't care what
any Broncos fan says, I don't care what any NFL
fan says. When Mahomes is gone, you're gonna miss him,
just like how I did when Kobe left, when Tom left.
There's a lot of others that I would hate over time,
Appreciate the greatness, don't hate the greatness.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
I think this will be a good debate because I
fully agree with you in a lot of ways. I
am on the opposite side of this one from you.
I do hate the Chiefs, but I generally do root
for greatness. You know, those later Patriots teams, I kind
of wanted to see them get the job done. I
actually rooted for them a fair bit, but there wasn't
(18:50):
any hatred there. Because I want to see the greatest,
you know, as someone who didn't see Michael Jordan play live,
you know, him being the greatest basketball player of all
time does nothing for me, right, I want to be
able to say I got to see the greatest basketball
player of all time.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
So I hope.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Lebron you know, passes up his records or whatnot, even
if I don't think he's like my favorite individual or whatever.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
You know.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
The Golden State Warriors, I wanted to see them get
the seventy three and nine season done. Cool that at
least I got to see the greatest you know, finals
comeback ever.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
But I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
I want to see the superlatives and savor those moments.
I think the Chiefs are different for a few reasons.
One they're a division rival, and that in the NFL,
you know where the easiest path of the playoffs is
winning your division. And to your point, it's been hard
to win this AFC division for you know, the past
(19:44):
seven eight years. It's gonna be hard to win it
for the next decade. Still that that makes it much
harder for the Broncos to make the playoffs. They're a
direct obstacle for the Broncos, which sucks. And even at
this point where we progress far enough in the season
where you know, them winning a super Bowl doesn't really
impact the Broncos in any way. For those fans in
(20:06):
Broncos Country, who you know, you're going to be going
to Broncos Chiefs games, you know for decades to come
and uh talking trash back and forth online with Chiefs
fans or whatever. You don't want them to be able
to lord eight super Bowl rings over your head in
those debates, or fifteen straight AFC West Division titles or
(20:28):
you know whatever it ends up being.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
So is your hatred not I think your hatred's the
right kind, then you're saying it's a respect hatred. It's
not a I don't want to even have the I
don't want to boycott the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
It's not.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
It's more about there the rival you're supposed to hate
them kind of thing. Because if so, then I think
your hatred is fine, that's normal then right that?
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Yeah, that, and they're they're a direct obstacle for the Broncos.
You know, them winning is going to be a pain
in the butt for Broncos fans for years to come.
And and then I also think there's there's an element of, yeah,
being tired of this. You know, when Brady retired and
Belichick broke up, I think there was this view of,
(21:07):
you know, even as Patrick Mahomes was coming to power,
we're going to.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Have parity in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Now.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
You know, we had twenty years of a dynasty which
was an extreme outlier in NFL history, and now we
should have some real parody. Well, this is so far
and even more extreme dynasty than New England really ever had,
Especially if they win this super Bowl, it'll be a
more dominant, you know, six year stretch than any under
Belichick and Brady. So I think it's that it's like
(21:35):
there was already this fatigue, this dynasty fatigue with the Patriots,
this hope that it'd be a new era, and then
it's an even worse dynasty. And I think this was
even more frustrating because dang Man, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
the level they're playing quarterback right now in terms of
peak is like a top ten quarterbacking peak of all time.
(21:56):
They have every answer to the test. It is remarkable,
truly what we're seeing. I mean, Lamar Jackson, you look
at the first seven years of his career, eerily identical
to like Peyton Manning, but a little better statistically, the
same amount of playoff success all that. Josh Allen is
very similar ballpark, you know, And it's annoying that we're
(22:17):
going to be talking about, you know, potentially Mahomes's you know,
fifth Super fourth super Bowl, and we haven't gotten to
see Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen even play in a
single Super Bowl. For me, it's it's I feel like
we've appreciated the Chief's greatness plenty. I would love to
get the opportunity to appreciate Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson
or Joe Burrow's greatness. Hopefully in a week or two
(22:39):
we get to celebrate Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Well, I want to go back to you mentioning Michael
Jordan because ironically, as Pat Mahomes might become the goat,
Michael Jordan obviously is currently the goat. Obviously the people
can mention Lebron James. But the reason I mentioned this
is because the other part about the hatred. To wrap
up this conversation about hating the chief are not hating
the Chiefs. I tell you what. The rest of the league,
(23:04):
specifically the Josh Allen's of the world, though Lamar Jackson's
of the world, they respect the guy, I think for sure,
But man, they are going to hate him for a
totally different reason because Bat Mahomes is Michael Jordan, Josh
Allen and Saquon Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are Charles
Barklay among the others that just could not get past
(23:27):
mj because now that hatred for them in terms of
playing against him. There is no reason I said this
going into this weekend, this past week in the games,
there's no reason why the Chiefs should should beat the Bills.
The Bills I think were better in every way. The
Chiefs defense, you can make an argument, has been better.
But overall, the dominance, the perfection, specifically the perfection the
(23:50):
lack of turnovers for Buffalo literally should not have given
the Chiefs any opportunity to have beaten them. And I'm
not saying it was the turnovers, because it was. It
was more about the fact that there's no reason why
Buffalo should have lost that game. On paper, there are
percent better than Kansas City going in this game. But
I'm telling you now that it is a mental hurdle
(24:11):
for these guys because now Josh is zero to four
against Mahomes in the playoffs. He's been ousted almost every
freaking time by the Mahomes and the Chiefs. So that
hatred for the players. Lamar Jackson obviously included because he
had he had no reason to lose. They were at
home in the AFC Championship game last year. This, if
I'm correct to believe, I'm correcting that there's no reason
why this year's Chiefs should have beaten these kinds of teams.
(24:34):
I mean, Buffalo beat him in the regular season. We
always know that doesn't matter, but that hatred for the
players now and for the opposing squads, and like you said,
especially for the division rivals, it's gonna start, if it
hasn't already kind of taken. It's told me building up
to when the Broncos finally broke that streak at home
last year with Russ up into that, I mean, getting
sick and tired of hearing about that damn streak. I mean,
(24:56):
so overall, I think the players and the teams play
against the likes of Mahomes. I've got it. I mean
that hatred for them. I can't imagine how much it's
built up. I think it's just beyond now frustration. I mean,
there was a montage I watched of Josh Allen the press,
the postgame press conferences, and after the first one, the
loss to Mahomes and the Chiefs, he said, we'll be back.
(25:17):
We're gonna be back here essentially was his message. And
then fast forward not one more, not two more, but
three more now the fourth loss to Pat Mahomes and
the playoffs, that deep breath before you give an answer
a damn question, the exhaustion and just the frustration of
having lost to this guy, over and over and over
and over. Buffalo Bills fans and NFL fans have to
(25:38):
won or is he ever gonna get over that hump?
You would hope that there's going to be one, and
I hope for Buffalo's sake if it's not the Broncos
winning in the next however many couple of years, if
the Broncos become one of these elite contenders in the AFC,
I hope Buffalo wins, and I hope they don't have
to do what Broncos fans had to do in the nineties,
which was wait until the absolute twilight of John Elway's
(25:58):
career to get it done, because that would be awful
for them. I mean, Buffalo still has never won. So
what do you think about that? Isazach in terms of
the hatred from the player side playing against this guy,
playing against the Chiefs and knowing that they're gonna be
there and they're going to be a thorn in your
side in a hurdle you have to get over, specifically
for Josh and for Lamar. I mean that hatred has
to have built up exponentially.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Certainly. I think we've seen it play out.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
You know, Josh Allen has put it all on the
line these last few games against the Chiefs, Lamar Jackson.
We've seen it too in Week one this year, in
Week one of the regular season, and I think you
could watch every other Week one game from this year's
regular season and you wouldn't see any other quarterback playing
like Lamar Jackson was in that game. He was happy
(26:44):
to scramble, happy to take hits, lowering his shoulder into
dudes like you see Josh Allen do. Except Lamar ain't
built like that, just putting it all on the line
to win. They really want to beat Mahomes, and so
I think that point is as lee there. Some of
I think their consistent failings against Mahomes are you know,
a bit of a mental aspect.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
But I think that's a double edged sword.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Some of it's, you know, I think the light's getting
really bright for a Josh Allen for Lamar Jackson in
those spots. I also think it's you know, the Chiefs
being incredibly clutch. You know, seventeen straight I believe it's
seventeen straight one possession victories in a row, which is insane.
(27:31):
If you were to say, you know, the Andy Reid
Mahomes combo gives you an eighty percent chance to win
every one possession game, they'd still only have a two
percent chance of winning those seventeen straight. It is just
an incredibly unlikely feet and they've managed to pull it off.
And you look at all those games, they definitely weren't
eighty twenty situations like these recent Broncos and Raiders home victories.
(27:54):
You know, we saw how unlikely the Broncos one was.
That said, I do think there's some light at the
end of the tunnel four, you know, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
even bow Knicks because the Chiefs Corps is gonna get
broken up here in the near future. Travis Kelcey might
(28:17):
retire after this year. I think there's a great chance
of that, especially if they win the Super Bowl. I
bet he's got you know, if he doesn't, I bet
next year is his last year. Andy Reid is in
a very similar predicament. He's got very little time left,
you know, before he calls it quits. He's kind of
made that clear of the last two Super Bowl victories. Actually,
(28:38):
he's been asked after the fact if he's going to retire.
Going out after a three p would make a fair
bit of sense.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
So I.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
I think the end might be coming here, at least
of this level of dominance. They're still going to have Mahomes,
They'll still be able to put a good team around him,
but I think the playing field will be level also
because when Reid steps aside, Spagnolo probably.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Becomes the head coach. Well, he's been one.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Of and he's learned a lot, maybe over the last decade,
but the last time we saw him as a head coach,
he was arguably, you know, one of the five ten
worst head coaches in NFL history.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Yeah, and he's a great DC, but his defenses weren't
great when he was a head coach. So that could
be a game changing element too. I that would be
my morsel of optimism for Broncos country and AFC fan bases.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Well that's a good segue, but I'll wrap up this
part with this. We'll learn a lot about Mahomes and
his greatness when he loses those guys. Because I think
you're right. I think Kelsey's definitely getting near. The end
is near for him. I actually had that thought on
the podium about Andy Reid. I thought, you know exactly
that I think going out on a three p as
(29:48):
a head coach in the NFL. I mean, he's already
a Hall of Famer, but even further cementing first ballot,
no doubt, maybe even unanimous. You do something no other
head coach has ever done, no team has ever done.
Three There's no better way to go out outside of
him loving it. You know, Pete Carroll's back in the
NFL at his age, So I don't know, can Andy
(30:09):
Reid hang on? I think, you know, respectfully, I think
Andy Reid's you know, obviously not in as good a
physical shapes. I don't know where his health is at.
I don't know if he's up up to the challenge.
And that's no slight to him. I'm just saying it
in terms of his general health. I don't know if
he wants to keep that going. I know he's a
family guy, so so I think it's very possible here
in the next two three years from Mahomes to lose
both Kelsey and Andy Reid. So we'll learn about a
(30:30):
lot about Mahomes. But to your point in the segue
right there is that could be an opening for the
Denver Broncos next couple of years while Mahomes gets that
next head coach, maybe even Spags and then posts Spags
if it's an offensive guy. We're talking about maybe a
couple year loll we in the AFC West. The Denver
Broncos can take advantage and really help catapult themselves not
only into continue to be a playoff team, but maybe
(30:52):
even winning the AFC West in a couple of those
lull years for the Andy Reid Liss Travis Kelsey lists Chiefs.
So that's where I want to get into for for
a couple of minutes here before we wrap up this
first episode of eight Diseas Act is what the Denver
Broncos can learn from this run by the Kansa A Chiefs,
both this year and really the entirety of this run.
And I've got one point that I think I'll just
(31:15):
hit on before I'll turn over to you. And it's
for me. It's easy, and it's not something they can
only learn just from this dynasty. It's something they can
learn from Tom Brady's Patriots dynasty. And Sean Payton would
love this as well. Get a damn tight end that's elite,
Get yourself a game changing, game breaking Did I say
Tyler Warren already game changing tight end that can just
(31:38):
elevate your offense. I'm not saying obviously you got to
go the two tight ends that obviously made Tom Brady
so successful for a couple years there with Hernandez in
with Gronk, but I mean, at least just one. I
think we all were crossing our fingers and so hopeful
that Greg Dolsich was going to be that guy. Obviously
it didn't work out. We thought there was a light
at the end of the tunnel when it came to
(31:58):
the Drew lock air with it. His Alberto wound up
obviously not working out. There's been a lot of guys.
I mean, Shawn's brought in a couple of his guys
obviously over the years from New Orleans to try to
have them be the guy. But I think you need
that next level guy now. It's obviously easier said than done, Zach.
There's only a few of those elite tier guys that
(32:19):
are in the NFL. But if you can get yourself one,
what it does for an offense, I mean, you look
at some of the great teams over the last handful
of years, that that tight end that changes everything for you, Zach,
I mean, if they can get themselves won and learn,
I mean, talk to Vance Joseph about defending great tight ends.
I think he can tell you if you even need
to know about the importance of facing a great tight
(32:41):
end and what it does. I think that's always kind
of been the knock on Vj's defenses over the years
is what the tight ends they've been able to do
to us. But I mean, before you mention your Zach,
in response to that, what do you think about that possibility,
what that could elevate for the Broncos team and learning
from the Chiefs, learning from the Patriots, getting that tight
end that has made teams so damn dominant in the
last decade two decades.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
I mean, I think it's a major need. I think
it was probably the worst position group on the Broncos
roster this season. Adam Troutman is an acceptable blocker, but
a near zero as a receiver. You know, over these
two seasons, he's been like as productive as a you know,
like one no offense season even in this see a
(33:26):
very like generic, replaceable, unexciting tight ends that the Broncos
have been on. Uh, Troutman stands out as as especially
low wattage. So I fully agree they need to upgrade there.
I kind of want to go maybe a little different
direction early than Tyler Warren. I'll get to that in
a second. But uh uh, you know, tight end would
(33:47):
make a lot of sense. I'd be plenty happy with
a Tyler Warren in the first round. You know, a
Gunner Helm in the second round. There are some dudes
in this class at tight end, and you know, a
couple of years ago, I'd be saying, uh, don't target
that position in the draft. Wait, uh for free agency.
You know, it's just such a hard position position to
(34:08):
translate from college to the NFL level. But recently, you
know Samoporta, you know, trying to McBride brock Bauers. Of course,
we're seeing these guys make the leap a lot faster,
and a lot of it's the scheming and just offensive
minds being smarter with how they deploy these guys. I
trust Sean Payton to uh figure that one out. And
(34:29):
we saw how valuable with Jimmy Graham was in that
offense you know before.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
So he knows how to use the guys. I'd be
fully on board for it.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
They need to get a tight end, and thankfully this
off season lines up very nicely for them to do
just that.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Yeah, man, I I hope, so I hope they make
I mean, I hope the tight end is kind of
the first of many moves for them to and and
not just the only lesson too, that they can learn
from the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, that's kind of just
about wrapping up. He won't dive a lot more and
there's a we can go another multi episodes on what
the Broncos can learn from the chief So that's not
(35:06):
gonna first, uh, the last time we're gonna dive into that.
We're gonna definitely kind of go into that throughout the
off season in terms of diving into all kinds of
different things, and you'll see the common thread well a
lot of those things. The Chiefs still Well that's because
they're in the super Bowl and there's a very good
chance that they're going to win the super Bowl. As
of right now, they're their favorite I think by the
point and a half. So we're gonna dive in a
lot into the super Bowl probably a bit next week two.
For those that are listening here on the pod or
(35:27):
