A name can change a story—and this one changes ours for the better. Mind Over Her Heart is our commitment to clearer mental health conversations for women and the people who support them, with honest, lived insight into disability, care, and the systems we rely on. We share why the rebrand matters, how it sharpens our mission, and what you can expect from a new cadence: Tuesday and Thursday episodes, with guest conversations on Sundays.

We open with real life: tech hiccups, a raspy voice, and a bronchitis update that doesn’t silence the mic. From there, we go deep into cerebral palsy, unpacking spastic ataxia in plain language—what high muscle tone feels like, how contractures develop, and why metaphors like a “rubber band that won’t give” can help loved ones and clinicians understand. We also demystify Botox beyond beauty, exploring its role in managing migraines and spasticity, and how these decisions support daily function and long-term health. The goal is practical literacy: fewer myths, better conversations, kinder care.

Behind the scenes, we walk through the systems that make the show work. We’re partnering with editor Mark Ronick of I  Ronick Media, building community roots we’ve grown over 15 years in podcasting. We’ve moved our website to Podpage for a single, clean home with built-in players and discovery, and we’re hosting with Blubrry while noting when Buzzsprout or Libsyn may fit different needs. These choices aren’t shiny toys—they’re steady tools that keep the focus on what matters: accessible content, consistent releases, and a welcoming listener experience.

If you care about women’s mental health, disability education, and the practical side of care—from clinics to conference halls—you’re in the right place. Hit follow, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a quick review to help others find Mind Over Her Heart. Your feedback shapes what we explore next.

SPEAKER_00 (00:02):
You guys technical difficulties of course this
morning.
So I had to use a differentbrowser on my phone.
And yes, if my voice sounds alittle bit off for I don't know
how many recordings my voice hassounded off.

(00:26):
Turns out I have bronchitis.
I just found out that outyesterday, so it's always fun.
At least it's not turned intopneumonia like it did a couple
of times ago.
Me being me and me havingdouble-weakened lungs and at

(00:51):
this point being bedbound, um,well partially bedbound, I
should say.
Um, but me being partiallybedbound, yeah.
CP and double-weakened lungsdon't admix.
So what I wanted to tell youguys is there will be changes.

(01:16):
Um first of all, I'm changingthe podcast name um from a
gentle voice to mine a mind overher heart, which um I came up
with that through a process oftalking to people and um and

(01:43):
literally talking to people anddoing soaring on it.
And the reason backstory overmind of a over mind of her heart
is because my mental healthpodcast is designed primarily

(02:06):
for women and those who supportthem primarily for women with
disabilities, but women withoutdisabilities alike, because I
like to teach about disabilitiesto the best I to the best of my
knowledge.

(02:26):
So I would love to have feedbackover um this.
And yes, because I have bonekindness, that does it doesn't
stop me.
I mean, I have a meeting thismorning, so that was already

(02:48):
planned.
I just look as if I'm sickerthan I normally would be, but um
oh, I'm hanging in it, I'mhanging in it, and on Thursday
tomorrow I actually get to goout surprise to go get Botox.

(03:15):
So we'll see what um we'll seewhat the Botox does.
Now, um they use Botox forseveral different reasons.
As you guys know, you guys allknow about cosmetically and they

(03:38):
use it.
I come to find out.
Um they also use it formigraines, but they've done
studies in CP all the way allthe way around the planet with
CP and spastic cerebral specspastic ataxia, cyberpalpsy,

(04:01):
it's a tongue twister, which iswhat I have.
Um they have done researchstudies, and what basically is
best a taxia, sample palsy is,is I have high muscle tone,
meaning my muscles get really, really tight and really, really

(04:27):
tight.
Like my hip flexes, it's likedealing with a rubber band that
don't give.
So um that's my new way ofexplaining it to people.
And people that know about meand know me really well don't

(04:48):
care.
They don't care, they just don'tcare.
They want to see me happy andhealthy, and yet um, yet it's so
hard because um the my leg wentinto contracture due to a taxi,

(05:14):
spastic sample palsy.
So it just so please listen to amind over her heart and it will
be out Tuesdays and Thursdayswith guest episodes on real
coming out on um Sundays.

(05:37):
So my mind over her heart willbe produced by myself and my
editor who um is Monk Ronick.
He's a villainic media out of umSouth Carolina, and I met him

(05:58):
through podcasters morning chat.
That's how I met Monk Ronick,and I didn't um realize until he
because he does um podcastersmorning chat and um I am still a

(06:22):
member of that group, so Ididn't realize he edited
podcasts.
I also know a podcast editor,Steve Stewart, who is also
phenomenal, but I think I'mgonna use I know I'm gonna use

(06:44):
Monk's services just because umI need to support him.
He's he's supported me actually.
All the podcasters havesupported me.
It's quite funny when I go topodcasting conferences, which I

(07:05):
will do again, um I make a joke, find a woman in the wheel
wheelchair, and they people umpeople go when it's truly you,
you have stable palsy, and it'struly you, and believe it or

(07:27):
not, uh people don't believethat I have cerebral palsy
because until they see me, theydon't put two and two together.
I mean, I have been in thispodcasting space on and off for
over 15 years, and then it's Italk about cerebral palsy every

(07:52):
single day, so practically now.
So it's um interesting thatpeople still don't believe that
I have cerebral palsy, and it'sinteresting that people um
really get a shock when I say Iwill be at XYZ podcasting

(08:18):
conference, and people get ashock of the lifetime that I
truly use a wheelchair and Itruly um do have cerebral palsy.
They um they can understand thewheelchair plant, but they still
can't understand the cerebulcyplant, which I find funny

(08:42):
because I speak about it everysingle day practically now.
So please listen to uh mind of aheart.
I'll be updating everything, andwe're now officially on the pod
page, yay, which means onesimple pod um website and then

(09:06):
podcast website, and then it hasall the players on it, it has
all the um it has all the stuffto follow along, and it all
already captures all thealgorithms and the feeds and

(09:27):
stuff, and the reason why I didit is because one of my heroes
in the podcasting space.
I have a hero in the book space,he'll in the podcasting space,
and one of my male heels in thepodcasting space.

(09:50):
He's been doing podcasting for20 plus years.
Um his name is Dave Jackson, andhe used he used to work with At
Lipson, which is one of the topcpodcasting hosts in the um

(10:16):
country.
They've been around since 2004.
And then um, and then he leftlipson and got a job at Podpage,
so I went over to support him.

(10:38):
I'm no longer on Lipson myself.
Um I wish that Lipson would L YB S Y N liberated Syndication
would drop their prices a littlebit.
That's why I'm no longer on theLipson.
But I'm on Blueberry and umBusbelt.

(11:01):
Buzzbelt is set it and forget itwebsite, which is perfectly fine
for winning heart, but um for uhmind of a her heart, I formerly
a gentle voice, formerly she isher, which is this will be the

(11:25):
last podcast name change.
So again, it will be coming outTuesdays and Thursdays with
guest episodes coming out onSundays, and so um the reason
why I went to Blueberry, thiswasn't on false move in the

(11:49):
least, um, this was becauseBlueberry lost its CEO and so
they get they got me as a umuser now because I've followed
what the Blueberry what they'vedone.

(12:12):
I've been I've been followingthe podcast space for years.
So um I will put all links inthe show notes on Blueberry.
I will also do a cross crossfeed post on a winning heart as
well with all links in the shownotes, and then I will let you

(12:38):
guys go.
And again, um school ofpodcasting is great and hosted
by the phenomenal phenomenalDave Jackson.
I will put Pod Page in, I willput Blueberry in, and then I

(13:00):
will also um be updatingeverything so you guys can have
it all.
So I will let you guys go andhave a great day, and I am over
and out, and I might have to useSafoi from now out to get to

(13:23):
stream yard, but we'll figureout what I did.
It's user, it's not stream yardair this morning, it's user uh
user air with sponkitis.
That's what it was.
Um and so I'll let you guys goand I'll catch you guys later,

(13:44):
and I'll let you guys know howBotox was on a winning heart.
So be sure to tune in for that.
And my brain is about to turninto mush.
So before I lose my voice andbefore I have my brain turned

(14:07):
into mush, I'm gonna let youguys go.
Bye, you guys.
