Psalm 73 opens with a crisis of faith: why do the wicked prosper? Yet it resolves into a beautiful truth—“Whom have I in heaven but You?” These psalms invite us to be honest with God in our questions and pain, and ultimately lead us back to the comfort of His presence and justice.

Let this gentle reading bring peace to your evening or rest to your soul. Whether you are feeling far from God, overwhelmed by the world, or simply need help settling your thoughts before sleep, this episode offers sacred space to breathe, reflect, and rest in the truth of scripture.

(00:05):
Welcome to abide in slumber, where we rest in His Word and
sleep in His peace. This is your time to unwind, to
let go, and to enter into God's presence with stillness and

(00:26):
trust. Before we begin tonight's
scripture meditation, let's takea moment to quiet our hearts
using the rhythm of prey. Pause, reflect, ask and yield.

(00:49):
Pause. Take a deep breath in and slowly
exhale. Release the weight of the day.
Let your body soften, your mind quiet, and your spirit rest in

(01:11):
His presence. Reflect.
Consider God's faithfulness today.
Where did you see His goodness? What small moments of grace can

(01:33):
you hold on to as you? Rest ask.
Whisper a prayer to God, whetherfor peace, comfort, or simply
the ability to let go and trust Him as you sleep.

(02:01):
Yield now, surrender, release control.
Know that you are held, loved and watched over by the One who
never sleeps. Father, comfort us now as we

(02:31):
drift into sleep. Calm our hearts, our minds, our
bodies, and our spirits as we meditate on Your Word tonight.
Give us deep rest so we can wakeup tomorrow.

(02:52):
Refresh and ready to glorify youin all that we do.
Let's now rest in His word together as we journey through
Psalms Book 3, Psalm 73.

(03:28):
God is indeed good to Israel, tothe pure in heart.
But As for me, my feet almost slipped, my steps nearly went
astray. For I envied the arrogant.
I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
They have an easy time until they die and their bodies are

(03:51):
well fed. They are not in trouble like
others. They are not afflicted like most
people. Therefore, pride is their
necklace and violence covers them like a garment.
Their eyes bulge out from fatness.
The imaginations of their heartsrun wild.

(04:13):
They mock and they speak maliciously.
They arrogantly threaten oppression.
They set their mouths against heaven and their tongue strut
across the earth. Therefore his people turn to
them and drink in their overflowing words.
The wicked say, How can God know?

(04:35):
Does the Most High know everything?
Look at them, the wicked. They are always at ease, and
they increase their wealth. Did I purify my heart and wash
my hands in innocence for nothing?
For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning.

(04:58):
If I had decided to say these things aloud, I would have
betrayed your people. When I tried to understand all
this, it seemed hopeless until Ientered God's sanctuary.
Then I understood their destiny.Indeed, you put them in slippery
places. You make them fall into ruin.

(05:22):
How suddenly they become a desolation.
They come to an end, swept away by terrors like one waking from
a dream Lord. When arising, you will despise
their image. When I became embittered and my
innermost being was wounded, I was stupid and didn't

(05:45):
understand. I was an unthinking animal
towards you, yet I am always with You.
You hold my right hand, You guide me with your counsel, and
afterward you take me up in glory.
Who do I have in heaven but you?And I desire nothing on earth

(06:10):
but you. My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.
Those far from you will certainly perish.
You destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
But As for me, God's presence ismy good.

(06:34):
I have made the Lord God my refuge, so I can tell about all
you do. Psalm 74.
Why have you rejected us forever, God?

(06:56):
Why did your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember your congregation, which you purchased long ago and
redeemed as the tribe for your own possession.
Remember Mount Zion, where you dwell.
Make your way to the everlastingruins, to all that the enemy has

(07:17):
destroyed in the sanctuary. Your adversaries roared in the
meeting place where you met withus.
They set up their emblems as signs.
It was like men in a thicket of trees wielding axes, then
smashing all the carvings with hatchets and picks.

(07:39):
They set your sanctuary on fire. They utterly desecrated the
dwelling place of your name, they said in their hearts.
Let us oppress them relentlessly.
They burned down every place throughout the land where God
met with us. There are no signs for us to

(08:00):
see. There is no longer a prophet,
and none of us know how long this will last.
God, how long will the enemy mock?
Will the foe insult your name forever?
Why do you hold back your hand, stretch out your right hand and
destroy them? God, my King, is from ancient

(08:23):
times, performing saving acts onthe earth.
You divided the sea with your strength.
You smashed the heads of the seamonsters in the waters.
You crushed the heads of Leviathan.
You fed him to the creatures of the desert.
You opened up springs and streams.

(08:43):
You dried up ever flowing rivers.
The day is yours also the night. You established the moon and the
sun. You set all the boundaries of
the earth. You made summer and winter.
Remember this. The enemy has mocked Yahweh and

(09:05):
the foolish people has insulted your name.
Do not give the life of your dove to beast.
Do not forget the lives of your poor people forever.
Consider the covenant, for the dark places of the land are full
of violence. Do not let the oppressed turn
away in shame. Let the poor and needy praise

(09:30):
your name. Rise up, God, defend your
'cause. Remember the insults that fools
bring against you all day long. Do not forget the clamor of your
adversaries, the tumult of your opponents that go up constantly.

(09:59):
Psalm 75 for the choir director. We give thanks to you, God.
We give thanks to you, for your name is near.
People tell about your wonderfulworks.
When I choose a time, I will judge fairly.

(10:20):
When the earth and all its inhabitants shake, I am the one
who steadies its pillars. Say law, I say to the boastful,
do not boast, and to the wicked do not lift up your horn.
Do not lift up your horn againstheaven or speak arrogantly.

(10:43):
Exaltation does not come from the East, the West, or the
desert, for God is the Judge. He brings down 1 and exalts
another. For there is a cup in the Lord's
hand full of wine blended with spices, and he pours from it all
the wicked of the earth will drink, draining it to the dregs.

(11:08):
As for me, I will tell about Himforever.
I will sing praise to the God ofJacob.
I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the
righteous will be lifted up. Psalm 76 for the choir director

(11:36):
with stringed instruments. God is known in Judah.
His name is great in Israel. His tent is in Salem, his
dwelling place in Zion. There he shadows the bows,
flaming arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war.

(11:59):
Say Law, you are resplendent andmajestic.
Coming down from the mountains of prey.
The bravehearted have been plundered.
They have slipped into their final sleep.
None of the warriors was able tolift a hand at your rebuke.

(12:21):
God of Jacob, both chariot and horse lay still.
And you, You are to be feared. When you are angry, who can
stand before you? From heaven you pronounce
judgement. The earth feared angry quiet
when God rose up to judge and tosave all the lowly of the earth

(12:46):
say law. Even human wrath will praise
you. You will clothe yourself with
their remaining wrath. Make and keep your vows to the
Lord your God. Let all who are around him bring
tribute to the awe inspiring 1. He humbles the spirit of

(13:09):
leaders. He is feared by the kings of the
earth. Psalm 77 for the choir director.

(13:30):
I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me.
I saw the Lord in my day of trouble.
My hands were continually liftedup all night long.
I refuse to be comforted. I think of God, I groan, I
meditate, my spirit becomes weak.

(13:52):
Say, Law, You have kept me from closing my eyes.
I am troubled and cannot speak. I consider days of old, years
long past. At night I remember my music, I
meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders.

(14:16):
Will the Lord reject forever andnever again show favor?
Has His faithful love ceased forever?
Is His promise at an end for allgenerations?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He, in anger withheld His compassion?

(14:37):
Say law? So I say, I am grieved that the
right hand of the Most High has changed.
I will remember the Lord's works.
Yes, I will remember your ancient wonders.
I will reflect on all you have done and meditate on your

(14:58):
actions. God, your way is holy.
What God is great. Like God, you are the God who
works wonders. You revealed your strength among
the peoples with power you redeemed your people.
The descendants of Jacob and Joseph say law.

(15:21):
The waters saw you. God, the waters saw you.
They trembled. Even the depths shook.
The clouds poured down water. The storm clouds thundered.
Your arrows flashed back and forth.
The sound of your Thunder was inthe whirlwind.

(15:42):
Lightning lit up the world. The earth shook and quaked.
Your way went through the sea and your path through the great
waters, but your footprints wereunseen.
You led your people like a flockby the hand of Moses and Aaron.

(16:12):
Psalm 78. My people hear my instruction.
Listen to what I say. I will declare wise sayings.
I will speak mysteries from the past, things we have heard and
known, and that our fathers havepassed down to us.

(16:33):
We must not hide them from theirchildren, but must tell a future
generation the praises of the Lord, His might, and the
wonderful works he has performed.
He established a testimony in Jacob and set a law in Israel
which He commanded our fathers to teach their children so that

(16:55):
a future generation, children yet to be born, might know they
were to rise and tell their children so that they might put
their confidence in God and not forget God's works, but keep His
commands. Then they would not be like

(17:16):
their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a
generation whose heart was not loyal and whose spirit was not
faithful to God. The Ephraimite Archers turned
back on the day of battle. They did not keep God's covenant

(17:36):
and refused to live by His law. They forgot what He had done,
the wonderful works He had shownthem.
He worked wonders in the sight of their fathers.
In the land of Egypt, the regionof Zoan, He split the sea and
brought them across. The water stood firm like a

(17:59):
wall. He led them with a cloud by day
and with a fiery light throughout the night.
He split rocks in the wildernessand gave them drink as abundant
as the depths. He brought streams of the stone
and made water flow down like rivers.
But they continued to sit against him, rebelling in the

(18:23):
desert against the Most High. They deliberately tested God,
demanding the food they craved. They spoke against God, saying,
Is God able to provide food in the wilderness?
Look, He struck the rock and water gushed out.

(18:45):
Torrents overflowed. But can He also provide bread or
furnished meat for his people? Therefore the Lord heard and
became furious, and fire broke out against Jacob, and anger
flared up against Israel becausethey did not believe God or rely

(19:06):
on His salvation. He gave a command to the clouds
above and opened the doors of heaven.
He reigned mana for them to eat.He gave them grain from heaven.
People ate the bread of angels and sent them an abundant supply
of food. He made the east wind blow in

(19:29):
the skies and drove the South wind by his might.
He rained meat on them like dust, and winged birds like the
sand of the Seas. He made them fall in his camp.
All around his tent. They ate and they were
completely satisfied, for He gave them what they craved

(19:53):
before they have satisfied theirdesire.
While the food was still in their mouths, God's anger flared
up against them and He killed some of their best men.
He struck down Israel's choice young men.
Despite all this, they kept sinning and did not believe His
wonderful works. He made their days, end of

(20:16):
utility, their years and sudden disaster.
When he killed some of them, therest began to seek Him.
They repented and searched for God.
They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God,
their Redeemer. But they deceived him with their

(20:37):
mouths. They lied to Him with their
tongues. Their hearts were insincere
toward Him, and they were unfaithful to His covenant.
And he was compassionate. He atoned for their guilt and
did not destroy them. He often turned his anger aside

(20:58):
and did not unleash his wrath. He remembered that they were
only flesh, a wind that passes and does not return.
How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and
grieved him in the desert. They constantly tested God and
provoked the Holy One of Israel. They did not remember His power

(21:22):
shown on the day He redeemed them from the foe.
When He performed His miraculoussigns in Egypt and His wanders
in the region of Zowan. He turned the rivers into blood,
and they could not drink from their streams.
He sent among them swarms of flies which fed on them, and

(21:44):
frogs which devastated them. He gave their crops to the
Caterpillar and the fruit of their labor to locusts.
He killed their vines with hail and their Sycamore fig trees
with a flood. He handed over their livestock
to hail and their cattle to lightning bolts.

(22:05):
He sent his burning anger against them, fury, indignation,
and calamity. A band of deadly messengers.
He cleared a path for his anger. He did not spare them from
death, but delivered their livesto the plague.
He struck all the first born in Egypt, the first progeny of the

(22:29):
tents of Ham. He led his people out like sheep
and guided them like a flock in the wilderness.
He led them safely, and they were not afraid, but the sea
covered their enemies. He brought them to His Holy
Land, to the mountain His right hand acquired.

(22:50):
He drove out nations before themand apportioned their
inheritance by lot, and settled the tribes of Israel in their
tents. But they rebelliously tested the
Most High God, and they did not keep His decrees.
They treacherously turned away like their fathers.

(23:10):
They became warped like a faultybow.
They enraged him with their highplaces and provoked his jealousy
with their carved images. God heard and became furious.
He completely rejected Israel. He abandoned the Tabernacle at
Shiloh, the tent where he resided among men.

(23:33):
He gave up his strength to captivity and his splendor to
the hand of a foe. He surrendered his people to the
sword because he was enraged with his heritage.
Fire consumed his chosen young men, and his young women had no
wedding songs. His priests fell by the sword,

(23:56):
but the widows could not lament. When the Lord awoke as if from
sleep, like a warrior from the effects of wine, he beat back
his foes and gave them a lastingshame.
He rejected the tent of Joseph, and he did not choose the tribe
of Ephraim. He chose instead the tribe of

(24:18):
Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.
He built a sanctuary, like the heights, like the earth that he
established forever. He chose David his servant, and
took him from the sheepfolds. He brought him from tending.
Used to be shepherd over his people, Jacob over Israel, His

(24:42):
inheritance. He shepherded them with pure
heart and guided them with his skillful hands.
Psalm 79 God, the nations have invaded your inheritance,

(25:09):
desecrated your holy temple, andturned Jerusalem into ruins.
They gave the corpses of your servants to the birds of the sky
for food, the flesh of your godly ones to the beasts of the
earth. They poured out their blood like
water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.

(25:34):
We have become an object of reproach to our neighbors, a
source of mockery and ridicule to those around us.
How long, Yahweh, will you be angry?
Forever? Will your jealousy keep burning
like fire? Pour out your wrath on the

(25:54):
nations that don't acknowledge you, on the kingdoms that don't
call on your name, for they havedevoured Jacob and devastated
his homeland. Do not hold past sins against
us. Let your compassion come to us
quickly, for we have become weak.

(26:16):
God of our salvation, help us for the glory of your name.
Deliver us and atone for our sins because of your name.
Why should the nation's ask, where is their God?
Before our eyes let vengeance for the shed of blood.

(26:39):
Before our eyes, let vengeance for the shed of blood of your
servants. Be known among the nations.
Let the groans of prisoners reach you according to your
great power. Preserve those condemned to die.
Pay back sevenfold to your neighbors the reproach they have

(27:02):
hurled at you, Lord. Then we, your people, the sheep
of your pasture. Pay back sevenfold to our
neighbors the reproach they havehurled at you, Lord.
Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will thank you

(27:25):
forever. We will declare your praise to
generation after generation. Psalms 80 for the choir

(27:46):
director. Listen, Shepherd of Israel, who
leads Joseph like a flock, You who sit enthroned on the
cherubim, rise up before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh.
Rally your power and come to save us.

(28:08):
Restore us, God, Look on us withfavor, and we will be saved.
Lord God of hosts, how long willyou be angry with your people's
prayers? You fed them the bread of tears
and gave them a full measure of tears to drink.

(28:30):
You make us quarrel with our neighbors, our enemies make fun
of us. Restore us, God of hosts, look
on us with favor, and we will besaved.
You uprooted a vine from Egypt. You drove out the nations and
planted it. You cleared a place for it.

(28:52):
It took root and filled the land.
The mountains were covered by its shade and the mighty Cedars
with its branches. It's sent out sprouts toward the
sea and shoots toward the river. Why have you broken down its
walls? So that all who pass by pick its

(29:15):
fruit. The boar from the forest tears
it, and creatures of the field feed on it.
Return, God of hosts, look down from heaven and sea.
Take care of the spine, the root.
Your right hand has planted the shoot that you made strong for

(29:38):
yourself. It was cut down and burned up.
They perished at the rebuke of your countenance.
Let your hand be with the man atyour right hand, with the Son of
man you have made strong for yourself.
Then we will not turn away from you.

(29:58):
Revive us name. Restore us, Yahweh, the God of
hosts. Look.
On us with favor. And we will be saved.

(30:20):
Psalms 81 for the choir director.
Sing for Joy to. God, our strength shout.
In triumphs to the. God of Jacob, lift up a song,
play the tambourine, the melodious lyre and the harp

(30:41):
blow. The horn on the.
Day of our feast, during the newmoon and during the full moon.
For this is a statute for Israel, a judgement of the God
of Jacob. He set it.
Up as an. Ordinance for Joseph when he
went throughout the land of Egypt, I.
Heard an unfamiliar. Language.

(31:02):
I relieved his shoulder from theburden.
His hands were freed from carrying the basket.
You called out in distress, and I rescued you.
I answered you from the thundercloud.
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.
Say law. Listen, my people.

(31:25):
And I will admonish you, Israel,if you would only listen to me.
There must. Not be a strange.
God among you, you must not bow down to a foreign God.
I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you up out of the land
of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will

(31:45):
fill it. But my people did not listen to
me. Israel did not obey me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their
own plans. If only.
My people would listen. To me and Israel would follow my
ways. I would quickly subdue their

(32:05):
enemies and turn my hand againsttheir foes.
Those who? Hate the Lord.
Would pretend submission to him their.
Doom would last. Forever but.
He would feed Israel. With the best wheat I would.
Satisfy you with. Honey from the Rock.

(32:36):
Psalms 82. God.
Has taken his place. In the divine assembly he judges
among the gods. How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked, say law?
Provide justice for the. Needy and the fatherless uphold

(32:57):
the rights of the oppressed and the destitute rescue the poor
and needy save them from the power of the wicked they.
Do not know. Or understand they wander in
darkness all the. Foundations of the.
Earth are shaken, I said. You are gods.

(33:20):
You are all sons of the Most High.
However, you will die. Like men and fall like any other
ruler. Rise up, God.
Judge the Earth, for all the nations belong to you.

(33:46):
Psalms 83 God do not keep. Silent do not be deaf, God, do
not be idle. See.
How your enemies? Make an uproar.
Those who hate you have acted arrogantly.
They devise clever schemes against your people.

(34:08):
They conspire against your treasured ones.
They say come. Let us wipe them out as a nation
so that Israel's name will no longer be remembered, for they
have. Conspired with one.
Mind they form an alliance against you, the tents of Edom
and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hag, writes Gabal Amman and

(34:33):
Malik Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre.
Even Assyria has joined them. They lend support to the sons of
Loth, say law. Deal with them as you.
Did with Midian as you did with Sisera and Jabin at the Kashan
River. They were.

(34:54):
Destroyed at. Indoor, they became manure for
the ground they make. Their nobles like.
Oreb and Zeb and all their tribal leaders like Zeba and
Zalmunah who said let us seize God's pastures for ourselves.
Make them like. Tumbleweed, my God, like straw

(35:16):
before the wind, as fire burns aforest, as a flame blazes
through mountains. So pursue them with your Tempest
and terrify them with your storm.
Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek your name.
Yahweh. Let them.

(35:36):
Be put to shame. And terrified forever, let them
perish in disgrace. May they know that you alone,
whose name is Yahweh, are the Most High over all the earth.

(35:59):
Psalms 84. How lovely is your?
Dwelling place, Lord of hosts, Ilong and yearn from the courts
of the Lord, My heart and flesh cry out for the living God.
Even a Sparrow finds a home and a swallow a nest for herself

(36:21):
where she places her young. Near your altars.
Lord of hosts, my King and my God, how happy are those who
reside in your house, who praiseyou continually say law.
Happy. Are the people whose.
Strength is in you, whose heartsare set on pilgrimage.

(36:43):
As they pass through the valley of Baca.
They make it a source of spring water.
Even the autumn rain will cover it.
With blessings they go. From strength to.
Strength each appears before Godand Zion.
Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer.
Listen, God of Jacob say law. Consider our shield.

(37:10):
God, look on the. Face of your anointed. 1.
Better a day in. Your courts than 1000 anywhere
else. I would rather be at the door of
the House of my God than live inthe tents of wicked people.
For the Lord God. Is a son and shield.

(37:32):
The Lord gives grace and glory. He does not withhold the good
from those who live with integrity.
Happy is. The person who?
Trusts in you, Lord of hosts. Psalms 85.

(37:59):
For the choir director, Lord, you showed favor to your land.
You restore Jacob's prosperity. You took away your people's
guilt. You covered all their sin.
Say law. You withdrew all your.
Fury, you. Turned from your burning.

(38:21):
Anger return. To us.
God of our salvation and abandoned your displeasure with
us, will you be? Angry with us?
Forever will you prolong your anger, for all generations will.
You not revive us. Again, so that your people may
rejoice in you. Show us your faithful.

(38:45):
Love, Lord, and give us your salvation.
I will. Listen to what God?
Will say, surely the Lord will declare peace to his people, his
godly ones, and not let them go back to foolish ways.
His salvation is very near thosewho fear Him, so that glory may

(39:08):
dwell in our land faithful. Love and.
Truth will join together. Righteousness and peace will
embrace. Truth will.
Spring up from. The Earth and righteousness look
down from heaven also. The Lord will provide what is
good, and our land will yield its crops.

(39:32):
Righteousness will go before Himto prepare the way for his
steps. And now we pray.

(39:59):
A Prayer of Saint Augustine O. Lord support us.
All the day long, then, in Thy mercy, grant us a safe lodging,
and the holy rest and peace at last.
Amen. The.
