(00:01):
Hello, this is, John and Joagain.
This is Jo.
Welcoming to our podcast.
This is our second podcast, andafter reviewing our first
podcast, we think we need toexplain a few things.
Or clarify.
Clarify, that's the word we wantto use about our first podcast.
(00:21):
For one thing, we want to tellyou about our children.
Jo, you can start.
I have, two children.
between the two of us, we have, eight grandchildren and four
great grandchildren.
I have two children.
One son lives in, Palatine,Illinois, with his wife and
(00:42):
daughter and daughter inEuphrata, Washington.
And, she has three children, which makes me have how many
grandchildren?
we have eight together.
Eight, that's a lot ofgrandkids.
That's four and four.
And how about greatgrandchildren?
For Gregor Grange.
Goodness, where'd they all comefrom?
(01:03):
Anyway, that's oneclarification.
And I have a daughter inPennsylvania, a daughter, a
husband, and a granddaughterthere, who is married, and
unfortunately her husband hasbrain cancer, it's not too good
right now.
I have a daughter in Florida, she's currently involved with a
(01:24):
man, She was single and ready tomingle, but now she's, mingled.
as far as moving, last time wesaid something about us living
in Chicago for 10 years, and Ithink we need to clarify that, I
lived in Chicago for 15 yearsbefore Joe and I got married,
and Joe lived with me 10 yearsin Chicago.
(01:46):
I mentioned about being in theAir Force and moving.
Air Force didn't move me toomuch.
I was in Strategic Air Command,Forbes Air Force Base, Topeka,
Kansas, House and Air ForceBase.
Fairbanks, Alaska, Little RockAir Force Base, North Little
Rock.
So that was the extent of mymoving.
(02:07):
Otherwise my jobs, took me fromDenver to Los Angeles to
Chicago.
And, that's where I retired fromChicago.
he worked for Siemens, andthat's how we got together
because I worked for Siemens.
Siemens was our, get togethercompany.
So we thought maybe we wouldtalk a little about moving this
(02:28):
episode, because we've moved alot.
Maybe some of you are thinkingabout moving.
Maybe some of you have moved andthink there's no way I'm going
to move again.
It's A lot of work.
A lot of planning.
Luckily for me, my first jobs, were company paid moves.
Last move, Joe did the work.
(02:49):
We lived in a place calledPalatine, Illinois, and we moved
to Lake in the Hills.
And every day I packed up fourboxes from one location to the
other, unpacked at the otherlocation, went back to Palatine
the next day, loaded up again, and five boxes were packed and
(03:10):
unpacked in our new location.
And you didn't say you used theSunday Chicago Tribune newspaper
over and over each time to packthe dishes.
It's hard to find a newspaper topack your stuff in.
Then, after we left, Palatineand moved to Lake in the Hills,
Jo made her declaration of, warmweather that she wanted to move
(03:36):
when we retired, we decided wewould move to Sun City Hilton
Head.
That was a big move for usbecause it was away from what I
was familiar with to someplaceunfamiliar.
However, we made many friendsthere.
one of the friends we made isnow, undergoing a moving,
(03:58):
moving, she is in Florida andshe has decided to.
Moved to a 55 and oldercommunity and she is
minimalizing.
if you use the Maria Kondomethod, you have a pile of
things that you love, a pile ofthings that you might like, and
(04:19):
a pile that you can get rid of.
You start out doing that and youeventually get down to just the
things that you love And most ofmy stuff was in the discard pile
so that we could bring Joe's Ilike pile, when we moved here.
And by the way, when we movedhere, that wasn't easy either
because We sold our house prettyquickly and had no place to go
(04:43):
because this place wasn't readyyet.
However, we had planned to comehere six months before our house
was built.
every day we took pictures downand I wrapped every picture in
the house.
it took us six months to Stackeverything up that we wanted and
pack it away in storage units.
(05:04):
We started with one Ended upwith three the third one Was
mostly stuff we bought for thishouse like porch furniture
chandeliers pictures TV setsMops, buckets, brooms, even and
a toilet paper holder.
We were ready.
And our dog, Osie, used to loveto go to the storage unit
(05:28):
because she would ride on thecart, and we would push her on
the cart to One of our threeunits she knew where they were
and would sit and wait for us toload and unload Luckily when we
moved to this house our familyand Pendergrass Said oh, we'll
help you move they ended upbringing a box truck that box
(05:49):
truck was filled with items fromour Storage units They didn't
actually move their furniture Wehad a moving company from Winder
do that.
They parked the truck in a culde sac close to our home and had
a forklift truck.
They took all the furniture off,put it on this forklift truck,
(06:11):
and then brought it into ourhouse, and unloaded it into
whatever room it needed to gointo.
And then we bought No, webought, washing machine and
refrigerator and dryer.
And when they were delivered, the refrigerator was put in
place, hooked up to the water, and the guy was going to show us
(06:34):
how to use it.
we said, that's not therefrigerator that we bought.
So he looked at it and we lookedat it and he said, I guess it's
not.
So the driver blamed the helper, and the helper blamed the driver
for bringing the wrongrefrigerator in, but that
refrigerator went out, and, thenew refrigerator came in.
we closed on a Friday, that wason a Saturday, Monday, the
(06:56):
moving truck came, and, it'sbeen home ever since.
Five years.
Five years now.
If you're thinking about moving, our advice is if you're thinking
about moving, don't wait toolong.
We were in our seventies when wemoved to Hilton Head and we
said, gee, we should have beenhere five years sooner.
(07:16):
even in this place.
Jo is the queen of the elderlyhere.
I am the we waited too long, because you can move in here at
55, so we're, 40 years pastthat.
However, this is such a greatcommunity.
We care for each other, takecare of each other, and, the
girls, very good to me.
They pick me up, take me towhatever activity I'm involved
(07:41):
in and bring me home.
I tell them they're the onlyones I trust other than me to
take care of her because they dotake good care of her, making
sure she gets in and out.
and gets back home and most ofthe time she doesn't win
anything when she comes home, but it's just good to have her
come home again.
Downsizing is very difficult.
(08:03):
We had a lot of glasses when wewere in Pendergrass, and it
seems that, we've accumulated alot of glasses.
We had 157 glassware objects.
This is things you can drink outof.
We now have 175, because we'veadded to our collection, because
(08:24):
you have to have certain glassesfor certain drinks.
And Joe makes sure that we meetthe code.
Keep your good china.
One thing, I'm sorry that we gotrid of, we had an estate sale.
I have to tell you, that wasvery easy.
These people came in, markedeverything, told us to go away
(08:48):
for the weekend, and when wewent back home, the house was
cleared of everything, exceptone more unit, TV unit was, not
popular anymore to have.
so we called Habitat forHumanity.
They came, picked it up.
And took it away.
the house was cleared.
They even sold, half a can ofoil or bug spray because buyers
(09:12):
maybe want to, try one beforethey go out and buy one.
I suggest that other than havinga garage sale.
You do all the work with agarage sale.
With an estate sale, they do thework.
And if you get a good one, likewe had, they inventoried it,
Item by item.
And a check.
With their, fee taking out ofit, and it was well worth it.
(09:34):
Very well worth it.
Next time I think we're going totalk about hobbies.
mostly John has a lot ofhobbies.
And I crease my hobbies on adaily basis based on the mood
I'm in and what I'm reading onthe internet.
So with that said, look out andwe'll say goodbye until the next
(09:55):
time.
It's Johnny Joe.
Adios.
