Thinking of stopping your Google Ads campaigns for good? Whether you're scaling back, switching platforms, or closing your business, canceling or deleting your Google Ads account is more than just clicking a button.
This guide walks you through everything you need to know—step by step—to properly cancel or permanently delete your Google Ads account without getting hit with surprise charges or losing valuable data.
When you cancel a Google Ads account, your ads stop running, but the account and its data are still accessible. You can reactivate within 60 days.
Deleting your account means you're removing it permanently. All campaigns, billing records, user data, and performance history will be gone forever—and you won’t be able to restore it.
Before initiating cancellation, follow these essential steps:
Pause all active campaigns to stop further charges.
Settle any unpaid balance in your billing account.
Export reports and data (performance, billing, campaign settings).
Review user access, especially if you're using a manager (MCC) account.
Confirm you’re canceling the correct account (important if you manage more than one).
These steps help you avoid issues like billing errors, data loss, or canceling the wrong account.
Sign into your Google Ads account.
Click the admin (tools) icon in the top right.
Go to “Account settings.”
Under “Account status,” select “Cancel my account.”
Confirm your decision by following the on-screen prompts.
After canceling, your account status changes to “Closed.” Ads stop running, but data remains accessible for a limited time.
All active campaigns stop immediately.
Remarketing lists stop updating.
You can still access past reports for about 60 days.
Any outstanding charges will be billed automatically.
Refunds are only issued for unused balances—not promotional credits or used ad spend.
To completely delete your account:
Cancel all active campaigns.
Clear any pending payments.
Download necessary account data.
Go to “Account settings” and choose “Cancel my account.”
Confirm deletion and follow any final verification steps.
Once deleted, all your account information is erased, and the account cannot be reactivated. If you want to advertise on Google again, you'll need to start with a new account.
You can reactivate a canceled account within 60 days.
You can’t reactivate a deleted account—deletion is permanent.
Export your data early, just in case policies change or access is lost.
Contact Google Ads support if you're unsure or face billing issues.
Canceling or deleting your Google Ads account doesn’t have to be risky. Follow the right steps, and you’ll avoid common pitfalls while staying in control of your data and budget.
