Speaker 1 (00:00):
So today we're going to talk about all things cleaning.
Whether you want tips for keeping your home sparkling, or
you've dreamed of starting your own cleaning business from scratch,
this episode is packed with everything you need to know
and maybe even a little humor about how messy life

(00:23):
can get. So let's get to it. First off, cleaning,
you know, so let's give cleaning the respect it deserves.
Cleaning isn't just about appearance. It's about health, order, and
peace of mind. Plus, let's face it, nothing feels better

(00:45):
than collapsing into a freshly made bed in a spotless room.
Did you know the cleaning industry generates over sixty billion
annually in the US alone. It's sixty billion, excuse me,
from residential cleaning to commercial janitorial services. This is a

(01:09):
booming business that's always in demand. It is always in demand.
Why because people value their time and they're willing to
pay someone else to scrub that bathroom and polish those floors.
Before we dive into the business side, let's talk about

(01:29):
practical cleaning tips. So in the kitchen, you know, use
vinegar and baking soda to deep clean sinks and cut
through grease if they're eco friendly and cheap. You know
they are, so that makes sense. Total sense. Bathrooms, squeegee
your shower after every use to prevent hard water stains.

(01:51):
You know, squeegee costs five bucks. Keep it in your shower,
takes two seconds. Floors for wood floor, avoid soaking them
with water. A damp mop with a gentle A gentle
cleaner works, wonders. You don't want a whole bunch of
water and a soaked mop where all you're doing really

(02:13):
is you're moving dirt and grime and bacteria and stuff
from one place to the next. You're not getting it
up off the floor decluttering. Right, So adopt the rule.
If you haven't used it in a year, it's time
to let it go. Cleaning doesn't have to be a
chore if you know the tricks, and hey, you might

(02:35):
even enjoy it. Okay, probably not, but at least you'll
get you'll get it done faster, and you know what,
there's there is definitely some satisfaction when you get done cleaning,
kind of cutting the grass. Right, You look back and
you see what you've done, and you're you know, you're

(02:55):
you can see that sense of accomplishment right now. Now,
let's talk about how to turn your how to turn
your passion or even just your knack for cleaning into
a business. Starting a cleaning company might sound simple, but

(03:17):
it's all about building a system, trust and customer satisfaction.
So here's your step by step guide. Step one. Decide
your niche residential cleaning, maybe office spaces, post construction clean up,

(03:47):
maybe all of it. Find you know what you want
to do and and what's in demand in your area,
and probably all of it. Create a business plan. Outline
your services and target market. Research competitors, what do they charge,
and how can you stand out? Get licensed and insured.

(04:09):
Many clients wants to want to see that you're a
legitimate professional business. Check local regulations for licensing. Insurance protects
you and your clients. Stock up on supplies. Start with
high quality multipurpose cleaners, microfiber cloths, and vacuums. That sounds

(04:29):
pretty straightforward, right. Consider eco friendly products. That's a great
idea and that can set you apart. It's a growing
trend and appears to environmentally conscious clients, and a lot
of people just don't want, you know, crazy chemicals in
their house because there's no way it can be good
for you. Residential cleaning often charges by the hour or

(04:50):
flat rate per home size. For commercial bid by square footage.
Don't underprice. Make sure you're rates, cover costs, and leave
room for profit. That's a big one. It's easy to
go in there and say, well, I can do this,
I'll charge two hundred dollars, and then you get in there.
When it's all said and done, you know you've made

(05:12):
twenty bucks an hour. It's not worth owning your own
business to only make twenty dollars an hour. Create a
professional website. In social media pages, offer discounts for referrals
or new clients. Don't underestimate the power of word of mouth.
Grow your team now, this may be the hardest part

(05:34):
as your business grows. Hire and train employees who share
your standard, ensure their trustworthy. Your reputation is everything, and
that's true. And finding people that share your attention to
detail and passion for cleaning, not necessarily cleaning, but doing

(05:55):
the job well and doing it in a professional way,
that's a hard part. I mean finding the people to
work for you and to grow the business is hard.
So I mean trying to partner with them is really
a good place it could start to, so lots to
think about on that one. Starting small is fine and

(06:15):
it makes the most sense. It's honestly hard to find
a cleaning company that's successful for sale, and there's a
reason for that. They make when they make money, they
make a lot of money, and people don't want to
let them go. Your first client might be your neighbor,
but with consistency and good reviews, you can grow into

(06:35):
a thriving business. Remember everyone loves the clean space, they
just don't love cleaning it. So there's your market right there.
Here's where things can get fun. Let's talk about the
dos and don'ts of the cleaning world. Do focus on details.

(06:56):
Wiping base boards or polishing faucets can earn your reviews.
Do communicate clearly with clients. A checklift of services avoids misunderstanding.
Do invest in proper training for your team. So you've
got to train your team. Consistency is the key. Here's

(07:17):
some don'ts. Don't cut corners clients notice. They may not
say anything, but I promise you that they notice. Don't
use harsh chemicals without checking their impact on services. Sometimes
you can use bleach on a tub and you think

(07:38):
it's going to make it whiter, but it'll actually cause
it to yellow. Don't assume every client wants the same thing.
Customize your service to their needs. And if you're cleaning
a client space and discover a drawer full of let's
call it adult materials, remember what happens in the client's

(07:59):
home stays in the client's home. And I think you
know what I'm talking about. Cleaning isn't just about the
basics anymore. Here are some trends taking over the industry. Sorry.

(08:21):
More clients are asking for green products, specialized services. Think
carpet cleaning, window washing, move in, move out cleaning technology,
robotic vacuums, cleaning apps and scheduling software make the job easier.
COVID area era deep cleaning. Okay, so that's something we

(08:43):
can carry over to now. Sanitation services are still in
high demand for homes and businesses. Here's a fun fact.
The fastest growing segment and cleaning right now luxury cleaning services. Yes,
people are paying top dollar for someone to fold their
towels into fancy shapes like they're in a five star resort,

(09:04):
and also making some kind of origami out of their
toilet paper, which to me, that's the waste of time.
But you know, I guess it looks pretty Whether you're
looking to keep your own space clean or build a
business helping others do the same, Cleaning this more than
just a chore. It's a skill, an art, and yes,
a way to make serious money. If you're ready to

(09:26):
get started, remember start small, be consistent, and always aim
for sparkling results literally and figuratively. Thanks for tuning in today.
I appreciate it. I hope we can make your life
sparkle and shine a little bit more. We're going to
have some more some more episodes about the business side

(09:48):
and also about tips for cleaning your own house. So
thanks for joining, have a great afternoon or night, and
we'll see you next time.
