Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey everybody, and welcome welcome back.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
We were discussing when we left last last left each
other a little Colorado. I think we were really getting
into snow Mass and an Aspen.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Two of my favorite places in Colorado.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
But uh so now I just kind of want to
talk about the whole state of Colorado and then and
we're going to kind of look at it as kind
of like a visitor's guide to Colorado and what's going on,
what to expect when you get there, how to get there,
you know, all that kind of fun stuff. So I
think the best place to start when you're visiting someplace,

(00:46):
maybe for the first time, is choosing the right time
to visit, right And this this obviously has a lot
to do with the time of year, but also with
what fits your preference.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
So is it, uh, are.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
You going to go for skiing to Colorado or are
you going to go for hiking, or are you going
to go for some of the wonderful music events and
festivals and things like that. Are you looking for a
time when it's lively and crowded or just laid back
and chill. So we're going to kind of jump into
that and a little more A lot more specifically than

(01:23):
we did earlier when we were mainly just discussing Aspen
and snow Mass.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Again, it's hard, I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
It's hard for me to talk about Colorado and not
talk about snow Mass and Aspen. So anyway, let's let's
choose the right time. Let's choose the right time to visit. Uh.
Colorado's climate is as diverse as its landscape, and that's
pretty diverse, right, so, ranging from deserts to alpine tundra

(01:57):
and just understanding though the variability is crucial for playing
your perfect trip. The state's geography plays a significant role
in it's weather patterns, with elevation soaring from a low
of three three and fifty feet to a breath taking
heights of fourteen thousand feet and a little over so

(02:18):
that you know that's on up there, the air gets dead,
I can tell you that. So, I mean I went
the last time I went to snow Mass. It was
snow Mass. I had just recovered from from COVID, So,
I mean, my breathing wasn't good to begin with. I

(02:41):
was one of those weird guys that was in good
shape and got it pretty bad. Went anyway, and when
I hit a certain elevation. I mean I was struggling.
I mean I was coming down that mountain and my
knees were just like wobbling, My legs were trembling. I
was having to stop and breathe deep and all that jazz,

(03:01):
you know, I mean it was. I mean, I'm glad,
I'm went did have an oxygen machine in the you know,
in the condo that I used when I was when
I was in there, when I used, I slept with
that thing and was amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Anyway, that's a different story. Uh So, the.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Dramatic elevation change translates into a vastly different climatic conditions
within relatively short distances. What might be a balmy summer
day in Denver could be a chilly, even snowy afternoon
in the high country. So choosing the right time to
visit Colorado hinges heavily on the type of activities you

(03:38):
intend to pursue. A winter visit offers unparalleled opportunities for
skiing and snowboarding, while summer opens up a world of hiking,
mountain biking, and whitewater wrapting. Spring and autumn provide a
unique blend of pleasant weather. Fewer crowds and stunning displays
of seasonal color changes. The aspen trees are amazing. Let's

(04:02):
look at winter and we're just going to define winter
as December through February. Make it easy, and that is
when you have a wonder and snow. I'm dreaming novel
Why Christmas? And no, I'm not going to quit my
day job. So winter in Colorado is synonymous with snow,

(04:24):
particularly in the mountainous regions. The major ski resorts across
the state, Veil Aspen, Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs, and many more
receive substantial snowfall, making it a paradise for skiers and
snowboarders of all levels. And when I say levels, I
mean skill levels. Average temperature in the high country can
plummet well below freezing well below freezing with wind chill

(04:47):
factors adding to the chill. Denver, on the other lower
elevation cities and the other lower elevation cities experience of
mild temperatures, but snowfall is still possible plenty. Winter trip
requires careful consideration of weather conditions.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Packing warm, waterproof.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Clothing is essential, including layers of thermal underwear, fleece jackets,
waterproof out of wear, hats, gloves and scarves, proper ski
or snowboard gear including boots, skis, snowboard I me, you
can always rent it there, right. Safety equipment, you know,
this is a must for those hitting the slopes. It

(05:28):
is an absolute must. Don't forget and you can. You
can rent your stuff ahead of time, so don't forget that, right.
You don't have to walk into the to the rental
shop and say you want something. You can go ahead
and rent it ahead of time and pretty much have
it waiting for you when you get there. That's the
way to go if you don't own your own. Booking
accommodations and flights and advance strongly recommended, particularly during the

(05:51):
peak winter seasons, especially during holiday periods. Prices tend to
rise as demand increases. Supply and demand. That's, you know,
very basic economic principle, so early planning with UH will
ensure a better deals and availability. It's also wise to
check road conditions before embarking on any journeys, as mountain

(06:13):
passes can close due to snow and ice. They take
really good care of the roads in Colorado or in
the winter, you know, flying into Denver and driving to
Breckenridge or Veil or.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Aspen. I mean, it's a it's probably a four hour drive.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
It's a beautiful drive, and it can save you a
lot of money from from the flight that either flies
directly into one of those places, or you know, a
connecting flight from Denver on so flying in Denver is
a little bit cheaper. Then we'll get in this a
little bit later. But this just kind of came to
my mind, and the drive is amazing. Sometimes when the

(06:52):
weather's too bad, they're going to close it and you're
just you're just out of luck. Spring March to May.
Spring in Colorado marks the gradual transition from winter's grip
to the warmth of summer. While snow lingers in the
high country, lower elevations start to experience milder temperatures, blossoming wildflowers,

(07:12):
and this season offers a unique blend of activities, with
opportunities for skiing snowboarding in the early spring, complemented by
hiking and exploring as snow melts away the lower altitudes.
Spring weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, with occasional snowstorms

(07:33):
interspersed with sunny days. Packing layers as crucial as temperatures
can fluctuate throughout the day, Hiking boots, waterproof jackets, and
layers are essential regardless of your plant activities. Early spring
might still require snowshoes or skis for higher elevations, while
later spring is often suitable for lighter hikes and expiration.

(07:56):
Accommodation and flight bookings are generally more affordable than during
peak seasons, although prices can still increase around Easter and
other spring holidays. It is available to check the weather forecast.
I mean it is advisable and always available because it's
got it on your phone or your ipattery computer these days,
so you can't make an excuse that you didn't know

(08:17):
it was going to be a certain way, because it's
right there. So that'll help you prepare for any possible
weather related disruptions. Summer June through August, so that's really
your time for adventure. In my book, summer in Colorado
is the peak season for outdoor adventures. Hiking trails abound,

(08:41):
mountain biking routes, wine through the forests and rivers offer thrilling,
whitewater wrapting experiences. The days are long and sunny, ideal
for exploring the States. Of vast national parks, scenic byways,
and stunning mountain ranges. Temperatures in the lower elevations can
be quite, while high altitude areas remain refreshingly cool. However,

(09:05):
summer also brings the risk of afternoon thunderstorms, particularly in
the mountains. These thunderstorms can be intense, with heavy rain, hail,
and Lightning's crucial to be prepared for sudden changes in weather,
so pack rain gear, sunscreen, and plenty of water. Staying
aware of weather forecast is essential, and being prepared to

(09:26):
change your plans if necessary will ensure the safety and
enjoyment of your trip. And don't stay out in the lightning, guys,
don't just find some shelter and ride it out. Summer
is the busiest time to visit Colorado, so booking accommodations
and flights well in advance is absolutely necessary. Prices are

(09:47):
typically at their highest during this period, but with careful planning,
it is possible to find suitable lodging with various within
various budgets. Consider looking into less popular destinations potentially for
potentially lower costs in fewer crowds. Autumn September through November
Autumn in Colorado is a spectacular time to visit, showcasing

(10:11):
a breathtaking display of fall foliage as the leaves transform
into vibrant hues of red, orange, gold. The mountains offer
a mesmerizing panorama. The weather is generally mild and sunny,
perfect for hiking, scenic dries and enjoying the crisp mountain air. However,

(10:33):
autumn can bring unpredictable weather with occasional early snowfalls in
the higher elevations. Packing layers is still recommended as temperatures
can vary throughout the day. Sturdy footwear is essential for hiking.
I mean this should be a no brainer. But for
those out there that don't have a brain, sturdy footwear
is essential for hiking. Okay, that was for the brainless people.

(10:57):
And a waterproof jacket is always wise and for caution.
And now the waterproof jackets breathe. There was a day
when you put on a waterproof jacket, I mean foul
weather gear we called it on the boat, and it
didn't breathe, and it was miserable and you sweat, I
mean even when it was cold outside, you were sweat
and just it was miserable. Now they have great stuff

(11:17):
so no excuses not to have it. Accommodations and flights
cost generally decrease in the autumn compared to summer, but
prices can still be high during peak fall weekends. Booking
accommodations ahead of time is always advisable, particularly if you're
planning a trip during a popular fall color event or festival.

(11:38):
Checking road conditions, especially mountain passes, is also essential even
this time of year, as snow can close some roads
early in the season. No matter what time of year
you choose to visit Colorado, remember that preparation and flexibility
are a key to successful trip. By understanding the varied
climate and potential weather challenges across different seasons, and planning accordingly,

(12:03):
you can ensure a memorable and safe Colorado adventure. Remember
to consult your reliable weather forecasts frequently and be adaptable
to changing conditions for enjoyable experience. So next time, we're
going to talk about your budget. But I don't care
what your budget is. That's none of my business. But

(12:25):
it's what I'm saying is we're going to go over
different options for every budget, so you'll know what to
expect price wise. It's hard to put a dollar on
it exactly, but we can talk about what's going to
be the most expensive, the least expensive, you know, things
like that, from accommodations to flights, that kind of thing.
So that's what will hit next time. I hope it's
a little bit of good information for you on your

(12:46):
next trip to Colorado. We'll talk next time about budgeting,
all right, Well, y'all have.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
A great day. I'm going to have a great day,
and God bless
