Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey y'all and welcome. Thanks for joining me here at
the beach, Myrtle Beach, to be exact. You know Myrtle, Myrtle,
Myrtle Beach. It's one of my favorites. Like I've said
a million times, it was my childhood beach of where
I always went on a vacation. The few times that
I got to go. My family weren't big vacationers. We
were stay at homers Ago with the grandparents, different time,

(00:22):
different days, right, But when I did get to go somewhere,
it was always Myrtle Beach, whether it was in my
first trip just with the boys, was I think after
the tenth grade to Myrtle Beach, and then after my
senior year in high school Myrtle Beach, and then a
lot of spring breaks and just getting out after the

(00:43):
spring semester in college. You know, Myrtle Beach, and always
had a good time. I don't have any bad memories.
I don't have anything bad to say about Myrtle Beach.
I think it's a great place. I think it's a
great place for families, and there's so much to do.
I mean, you can go there and play golf. It's
got I think the most golf courses of anywhere in
the world within a certain you know, radius or whatever.

(01:06):
They're all nice from par three's to put put the
big time, you know, golf courses on the beach and
on the water and tidal creeks and all that. So
big golfer, good place to go if you like restaurants, seafood,
great place to go. It's like the beach one of
the best places to go because Myrtle Beach, you know,
it used to be a barrier island kind of like

(01:28):
you know, like Sullivan's Island or Baldhead Island something like that,
and it migrated inland, so that whole what used to
be an island is now the beach so to speak.
I'm simplifying, but that's why the beach is so big,
and it's just expansive. I mean, Myrtle Beach is really

(01:49):
a great, great beach and so many water parks and
places and things to do with the kids. So anyway,
there's one thing. My time's up to hear that beat anyway.
So beyond you know, all the things that we just
kind of talked about, there's some things that we haven't
talked about that are a little bit different that you

(02:11):
don't necessarily think of when you think Myrtle Beach. Coastal
walks is one of them, and scenic drives. These are
really laid back things to do, but they're out there
and they're fun, and if they interest you, you're gonna
love doing them at Myrtle Beach. So Myrtle Beach offers
a network of coastal pathways perfect for leisurely strolls, invigorating hikes,

(02:34):
and revealing the areas natural beauty at a slower pace.
Sometimes I just like a slower pace. The rhythmic crash
of waves against the shore provides a soothing soundtrack to
these these journeys, while the fresh sea air invigorates the senses.
Whether you prefer a short scenic walk or a longer,

(02:54):
more challenging trek, Myrtle Beach caters to all levels of
fitness and expiration. One highly recommended coastal walk is the
Myrtle Beach State Park's Nature Trails. This park boasts over
three hundred acres of maritime forest, offering a fascinating glimpse
into the region's diverse ecosystems. Well maintained trails wind through

(03:17):
the woods, leading to breathtaking ocean vistas. The trails are
generally flat and well suited for families with young children,
although some sections might be slightly uneven. Remember to wear
comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially during the
warmer months, because it's humid in the summer and you're
going to need a lot of water with electrolytes. The

(03:39):
park's diverse bird life is a significant draw, making it
a haven for bird watchers. Keep an eye out for herons, egrets,
and other coastal birds. The park also offers opportunities for
fishing and picnicking, allowing for a full day of outdoor enjoyment.
That just sound awesome and the beach in the ocean
is right there. The distance of the trails vary, with

(04:03):
shorter loops available for those seeking a shorter walk, and
longer trails for a more comprehensive exploration with the parts
natural beauty. Check the park's official website for detailed trail
maps and distance information. For a more urban coastal experience,
The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is a paved path perfect for

(04:24):
leisurely strolls or cycling and people watching, stretching for over
one point two miles along the ocean front. The boardwalk
is a vibrant hub of activity, hence the people watching.
From street performers to art displays and various food vendors,
there is something to captivate everyone. The boardwalk provides a

(04:46):
spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean, making it an ideal
location for enjoying the sunset. The smooth paved surface makes
it accessible to individuals with mobility limitations, making it include
space for everyone to enjoy the coastal scenery. The boardwalk
is particularly lively in the evenings, with its vibrant atmosphere

(05:08):
adding to the overall experience. Numerous beaches along the route
provide ample opportunities for rest and relaxation while soaking in
the lively environment. While the less intense physical activity compared
to nature trails, the link still ensures a decent amount
of walking and enjoyment for those who prefer this type
of coastal adventure. Moving beyond the immediate Myrtle Beach area,

(05:32):
the scenic Highway seventeen offers a breathtaking coastal drive and
I'm probably half a mile from Highway seventeen right now.
This route winds along the Grand Strand, offering a panoramic
view of the Atlantic Ocean and charming coastal towns. The
journey offers an opportunity to discover hidden gems and unique
local experiences. One of the highlights of this route is

(05:55):
the opportunity to stop at various beach access points, allowing
you to take a dip in the ocean or simply
enjoy a quiet moment by the water's edge as you
drive along the As you drive along, pay attention to
the various small towns dotted along the coastline. Each town
has its own unique charm and offers a peak into

(06:15):
the local culture. Stop off and explore local shops, restaurants,
and attractions to get a deeper appreciation of the Grand Strand.
Remember to check traffic conditions before you embark on this journey,
especially during peak tourist seasons. The drive is approximately forty
miles long from the northernmost point to the southernmost point
of Myrtle Beach. For those seeking a longer, more challenging

(06:38):
coastal walk, consider exploring the walk ime on next section
of the coast. This region boasts several trails offering stunning
views and opportunities for wildlife spotting. These trails are generally
unpaved and can be uneven in places, so sturdy footwear
is essential. The area offers diverse ecosystems, ranging from maritime

(07:01):
forest to wetlands, providing a rich and rewarding experience for
nature enthusiasts. Bring insect repellent with deep especially during warmer months,
as the lush vegetation attracts of various insects. The walk
imon Neck area is home to various bird species and
other wildlife, making it a prime spot for nature photography.

(07:24):
Expect a wide var variety of terrain on these trails,
from sandy stretches to wooded paths. Some trails are relatively short,
while others can lead to longer, more adventurous hikes. Be
sure to research the trail beforehand and choose one suitable
for your fitness level and experience. Always inform someone of

(07:45):
your hiking plans, particularly if you undertake a solo adventure.
Proper planning is crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience
in this region. And always let somebody know when you
expect to be back to your hotel, to your house,
or wherever your home home base is beyond the well
established trails, there are numerous opportunities for informal coastal walks.

(08:09):
Many beach access points along the coastline offer ample space
for leisurely strolls along the shoreline. These walks often offer
a more spontaneous and relaxed experience. You can explore the
tide pools at low tide, searching for the fascinating marine life,
or simply enjoy the sound of the waves and the

(08:30):
feeling of the soft sand beneath your feet. Remember, however,
to be mindful of the tide times and avoid venturing
too far into the water. These impromptu walks can be
a wonderful way to discover hidden coves secluded beaches, providing
a sense of tranquility and solitude. The spontaneous nature of

(08:50):
these walks means that you never know what you might discover.
Keep an eye out for shells, sand dollars, and other
ocean treasures that often wash up on the shore. These
walks are particularly enjoyable during the early morning or late evening,
when the beach is quieter and the atmosphere is more serene.
Remember if your sanddollar is brown, it's alive and throw

(09:13):
it back. Take the white ones that have already, you know,
past their prime, so to speak, and they've already somewhat
dried out. The brown ones will also smell very bad
as they die in your hotel room or your car
on your way home. Always carry a water in sunscreen
even on the short walks, especially during the hottest parts

(09:34):
of the day. The scenic drives and coastal walks and
Brtle Beach offer more than just physical exercise. They provide
a deeper connection with the area's unique natural history and
diverse ecosystems. Whether you choose a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk,
