Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello. Today, we're going to talk about everything traveling in Savannah.
For you first timers, I'm going to give you some
great tips about how get to get there, what to
do while you're there, what to see, where to eat,
and then of course, the best way to get back home.

(00:23):
So let's dive in today. Let's talk about beautiful Savannah, Georgia.
Hopefully it's on everybody's bucket list to go travel and
see Savannah. Known for its moss draped oaks, cobblestone streets,
rich history, and Southern hospitality, Savannah is a bucket list
destination for many. We'll cover everything you need to know

(00:47):
for your first trip, where to stay, what to eat,
the mussy sights, and even a little literary trivia. So
let's dive into the Southern charm. Getting to Savannah's flying.
The Savannah Airport is a tiny, little, very efficient airport.

(01:07):
It's very convenient. It's about fifteen minutes from downtown and taxis,
ride shairs, shuttles, ubers, lifts are all readily available to
get you to your destination once you arrive. Driving, I'll
talk about driving. Driving in Savannah, or getting to Savannah
is easy. It's easily accessible. By car located just off

(01:28):
of I ninety five. If you're road tripping, the scenic
low country landscapes are worth the drive. Just as you
drive into Savannah over the bridge and you see the
beautiful marshes, the grass, the birds, it just sets the
scene for the rest of your trip. Train or bus
am tracks, Silver Service Line stops in Savannah and Greyhound

(01:49):
buses are also an option for budget travelers. If you're
staying in the historic district, you might not need a
car once you're there, so think about that. You might
not need to rent a car if you fly. The
city is very walkable and there are plenty of trolleys
and petticats to help you get around. You could also
rent a bike or a scooter, although some of the

(02:12):
cobblestone streets with the scooters are a little bit dangerous,
but again, walking is a perfect way to get around Savannah. Okay,
let's talk about where to stay once you're here. Let's
talk about some budget styles. This historic inns and bed
and breakfasts. The Hamilton turner In is a luxurious boutique

(02:35):
hotel in a historic mansion, often featured in ghost stories.
The Gasdonian perfect for a romantic getaway with its intimate
old world charm. Let's talk about some modern hotels. Most
of these are on the river and have absolutely beautiful
views rooftop bars. It's just the place to be. The

(02:58):
Alita Hotel a trendy option on the front with a
rooftop bar and stunning views. JW. Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside
District a lavish hotel housed in a former power plant.
Blending industrial design with luxury. This is a must see
hotel when in Savannah. The architecture is spectacular, the way

(03:20):
that they blended the old with the new, and it
has a really cool vibe at the bar. Budget friendly options,
of course, there are budget friendly options when in Savannah.
Let's talk about the Thunderbird Inn. Retro and quirky. This
hotel offers affordable rates and a fun kitschy vibe. It's
been alreadydone and it's just a really cool, funky place

(03:44):
to stay. If you stay in the historic district, allow
yourself to walk to most of the attractions. You do
not need to drive, and really it's very difficult to
find parking, so restaurants and shops are all accessible by foot. Plus,
feel like you've stepped back in time as you peek
down the alleyways and into some of the beautiful gardens.

(04:07):
Let's talk about what to do while you're in Savannah.
This is the fun part. First thing I would say
is you need to stroll around. Go to Forsyth Park.
This iconic park is a must see. With its beautiful
fountain shaded pathways, big huge live oak trees draped and
Spanish moss. It just takes you back in time. Pack

(04:30):
yourself a picnic and spend a little bit of your
day at the park. Take a ghost tour. These are
so much fun. Savannah is known as one of the
most haunted cities in America. Whether it's a walking tour,
a haunted pub crawl I like that one, or a
trolley ride, you're sure to get the chills and be

(04:52):
able to see Savannah at the same time. Explore historic squares.
Savannah has twenty two his stor Squares. They are all
charming green spaces surrounded by historic homes and monuments. Don't
miss chipplew With Square, famous for its role in one
of my favorite movies, Forrest Gump. Visit the Bonaventure Cemetery.

(05:18):
This picturesque cemetery is filled with stunning statues, historic graves,
and mossed draped trees. It's an old cemetery, so walking
around and looking at the dates on some of these
headstones is just incredible. Let's talk about shopping and dining.
Excuse me my favorite. Enjoy the cobblestone streets, quirky shops

(05:42):
and waterfront views. Stop by Savannah Candy Kitchen for pralins
and Taffy's. Let's go to some museums. The Telfair Museum
included the Owens Thomas House and the Jepsum Center. Blending
history with art. Okay for your foodies, Savannah is a
food lover's dream, So let's talk about the must visit restaurants.

(06:06):
Number one the Old Pink House. This is iconic and
I would recommend breakfast or brunch. There a Savannah institution
serving Southern classics like shrimp and grits and biscuits and
gravy in an elegant historic mansion. There's shrimp and grits,
y'all are really legendary. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead,

(06:29):
book a reservation and go try these missus. Wilkie's Dining
Room a communal dining experience with heaping portions of fried chicken,
corn bread, and other Southern comfort food. Don't forget to
pack your thumbs after these meals, and of course Leopold's

(06:49):
ice Cream when you're ready for a sweet treat after
some dinner. An old fashioned ice cream parlor that's been
serving scoops of ice cream since nineteen nineteen Tuty fruity,
it's a local favorite. And of course the Greyhouse. Housed
in a former Greyhound bus station, This award winning restaurant

(07:10):
serves creative takes on Southern cuisines and it is really
cool inside. Don't forget after all of this food when
you're packing brings some stretchy pants. Savannah's food is not
for the faint of heart or stomach. Literary and film

(07:30):
ties to Savannah, let's talk about these. Savannah has inspired
many famous books and movies simply because of its Southern
charm and its beautiful landscape. Here are a few to
check out before or during your visit. Midnight in the
Garden of Good and Evil. What a fabulous book this is.

(07:52):
This nonfiction book captures the quirky characters and gothic charm
of Savannah. You can visit the Mercer Williams House featured
prominently in the story, and tour the gardens. Forest Gump
my one of my favorite movies. While much of the
movie wasn't filmed here, the iconic bench scene took place

(08:13):
in Chippawa Square. And let's talk about the Last Song
by Nicholas Sparks set in nearby Tybee Island. This story
offers a chart look at the area's beachy charm. Okay,
it's time to leave Savannah. I'm so sorry. I know
you've fallen in love, but you can always come back.
The people of Savannah will welcome you with open arms,

(08:35):
because that's what they do. So let's talk about some
tips when getting out of the city. As your trip
winds down, here are some tips for leaving. The airport,
of course we already talked about, is a tiny little airport,
but it is efficient and it's good to arrive about
ninety minutes before your flight. You don't need to worry

(08:57):
about getting their two hours like some of the larger airports.
Plan ahead and have enough time so you're not rushing around.
Don't forget to take home some Southern treats like prayleans
or a bag of Savannah coffee roaster beans, and of
course plan your return trip. Trust me, one trip to
Savannah is never enough. You'll leave already dreaming of your

(09:20):
next visit, and of course don't forget to snap some
last minute photos of these iconic moss covered trees. They
make for the perfect goodbye shot and would be beautiful
hung on your wall. Savannah is a city that stays
with you long after you leave. It's charming, a little mysterious,

(09:41):
and filled with stories waiting to be discovered. So plan
your next trip to Savannah and remember that spring it's
a great time to go to Savannah. So just you
know it's time to stop listening, go ahead and start
booking those accommodations, book those flights, or whatever you need
to do. So to you a little bit next time.
