Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey y'all and welcome.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Let's uh, let's head back down south and let's go
to Savannah, Georgia. That's just south of where I am
right now in Charleston, South Carolina. I have been to
Savannah many, many times, and I love that city. It's
a lot like a kind of a scale down Charleston,
but at the same time, it's very different and very
unique to itself, and it is a great place to visit.

(00:26):
It is fun, there's a ton to do, there's a
ton to do for your family. Uh, there's there's a
good night life, there's great restaurants, there's good hotels. So
you know, we have been planning our trip to Savannah
together for two and a half months now. I think
we got a lot of it covered. We actually got
some more to talk about, though. We're getting into some

(00:47):
more detail about accommodations and restaurant I really kind of
get into the nitty gritty of it all where you
you know where you can go and start making those
reservations to the restaurants and things like that. But it's
what I'm going to do today is I want to
go back and revis is that what started this from
the very beginning why I felt like there was a
need as a travel writer to have a podcast that

(01:11):
not looking for publicity, just looking for information on how
to take trips and plan trips and try to make
them as stress for as possible.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
So that's what we're doing, and I want to go
back to the very beginning. And then.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
At the end I got a little treat. I got
the ten best and most popular hotels. I usually don't
do a lot of lists in these, but I got
a lists top ten hotels and I've been to probably
in state in at least five of them, maybe six,
have to look again. And then also have the five
most haunted destinations in Savannah. Of course that's subjective, but

(01:49):
I think it's a pretty good list. So this is
why it started about three months ago. So let's be honest.
Planning a trip can be a headache. A labyrinth of flights, hotels, itineraries.
It's enough to make even the most seasoned traveler reach

(02:10):
reach for a stiff drink, preferably something Southern inspired. Right,
I meant jew some Southern comfort, some soco, you know,
or if it's me a glass of red wine.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
You good to go. But fear not.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Intrepid adventurer uh. This podcast is your trustee compass, your
charming guide, and your hilarious companion on your journey to
the captivating city of Savannah. Forget stuffy travel guides filled
with dry facts and confusing maps. I've traded in my
monocle and tweet jacket. Of course it had the you know,

(02:48):
the patches on the elbows. Yet no, I never had that,
but it sounded good, right. So my mission is to
deliver a Savannah experience so delightful, so engaging, and so
utterly charming that you'll want to pack your bags immediately.
But don't do that, because we've got some planning to do.
Consider this your invitation to dive headfirst into something in

(03:13):
the heart of the South with incredible Southern charm, where
history whispers from every corner, delicious food awaits around every bend.
Within these episodes, you're going to discover more than just
usual tourist traps. You'll uncover the hidden gems, the local favorites,
and the kind of authentic Southern hospitality that will make

(03:35):
you feel right at home, whether you're a seasoned globetrotter
or a first time explorer. And I used to love
the Harlem globe Trotters. You guys remember them with curly
and metal art women. I mean, and then they were
on Scooby Doo. Remember that I used to love the
episodes with Scooby Doo and the Globetrotters. Anyway, I'll subject.

(03:56):
So I promise you a journey filled with laughter, delightful surprises,
and memories that will last a lifetime. So grab your
favorite beverage, settle into a comfortable chair, unless embark on
the Southern Adventure together. And if you happen to stumble
upon a ghost along the way, well that's just part

(04:17):
of the Savannah experience. Hence my five list of five
Haunted places at the end here. So Savannah, the name
itself conjures up images of Spanish moss draped over ancient oaks,
cobblestone streets, echoing with history, and the sweet scent of
Southern cooking just wafting on a gentle breeze. It's a

(04:38):
city that effortlessly blends with romance and rebellion, charm and mystery,
and history and modernity, modern nity. I always want to
put an extra syllable in there, in a way that
a few others can match. It really is a special place.
As a travel writer who's explored countless destinations, I can

(04:59):
com definitely say Savannah holds a special place in my heart.
It's not just the stunning architecture or the rich history.
It's the people. It's the way that strangers strike up conversations,
the way that laughter spills out from open doorways, the
infectious Southern hospitality that just wraps around you like a
warm hug that sometimes just doesn't want to let go.

(05:22):
The book isn't just I mean, the podcast isn't just
a guide right. It's a love letter to Savannah. It's
a collection of personal experiences, witty antidotes, practical advice, and
insider tips gleaned for years of exploring this in Enchanting City.
I've aimed to craft something more than a simple list

(05:45):
of attractions. I've tried to capture the essence of Savannah.
It's spirit, its soul, its undeniable charm. Whether you're seeking
a romantic getaway, a family adventure, or a solo exploration,
these episodes will equip you with everything you need to
plan the perfect Savannah escape. From choosing the ideal accommodations

(06:10):
to discovering the hidden gems beyond the well trodden tourist path.
That's what we're really looking for. That's where your memories
are made.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Right there. I'll be your virtual.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Companion as long as you can put up with me,
leading you through the cities, captivating squares, its mouth water
and culinary scene, and it's vibrant nightlife. So buckle up,
dear listener, for a journey as unforgettable as the city itself.
And don't worry, I'll be sure to point out the
best places for the pralines along the way, because, let's

(06:44):
face it, no Savannah trip is complete with alpha beIN.
That is the truth. Man, oh man. We just had
we just bought, just bought a big tub of those praylings,
you know with the pecans, and oh my gosh, I
think the huge thing lasted like four days. And we
usually don't need a lot of sweets. I consider that

(07:06):
a special treat right there.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
It was amazing.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Okay, So that's the way it started three months ago.
Go back and look at it again. It was a
little cheesy, and be honest, we did a little cheese side.
But I think that's that's what we've done. Is that
we've we've taken that initial idea and we've gone step
by step from the weather, when to visit, how to

(07:29):
get around once you get there, the restaurants, the whole
the vibe of Savannah, the history of Savannah. You know,
we've talked all of that. We've got more to do,
but I just you know, I think we're on the
right path here. So with that being said that the
next time we'll, uh, we'll start getting back into the

(07:51):
into the information and more detailed so you can really
start making those reservations. So as promised, the ten most
popular hotels in Savanna, the Georgia number one on the list.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I have not been to.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Hotel Bardow, Savannah a B A R d O a
luxurious retreat offering modern amenities and exceptional service. Perry Lane Hotel,
a luxury collection hotel in Savannah. It's amazing. It's very elegant,
and it has contemporary style and it's right in the

(08:24):
middle of the historic district of Savannah.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
JW. Marriott. JW.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Marriott anywhere and everywhere are always amazing and top notch.
This one is the Plant Riverside district. Very upscale accommodations
with stunning river front views. That's where you want to be, right,
Savannah is a riverfront. If something says like mountain views
in the wrong place, and there's really no beachfront in

(08:50):
Savannah either, by the way, you got to go to
the islands like Tybee Tybee Island. So number four the
Cotton Sale Hotelvannah Tapestry Collection by Hilton. I am a
Hilton guy, and I know that the tapestry collection is special.
It offers a blend of historic charm and a modern

(09:12):
comfort on the riverfront.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Again, there's riverfront.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Here's one of my favorites right here, guys, is the
Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront. It's the autograph collection. There's one
here in Charleston, too, but the one in savannahs better.
It's known for its artistic design, panoramic river views as
a rooftop bar. Even the light fixtures are totally cool.

(09:35):
They're made out of hundreds and hundreds of clam shells.
I mean, just really really cool. The whole thing is cool.
The vibe, the whole vibe the Alaida Savannah a tribute
to a tribute portfolio hotel have not stayed here, but
it provides a contemporary luxury with a nod to Savannah's

(09:57):
rich history and dads and dad Savannah. This is what
I've not stayed at. A chic boutique hotel offering a
modern accommodation in the city center. So this one isn't
in riverfront. This in the middle of city. But I
have heard nothing but excellent things about about that, and
maybe soon I'll learn how to pronounce it. The Drayton Hotel.

(10:18):
I can pronounce that one combines classic Southern charm with
modern elegance near the riverfront. Nice, nice place, tops and Savannah. Wow,
this is a sweet place. It's a contemporary hotel offering
luxury accommodations.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
It is top notch. It has river views.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
It's not exactly on the riverfront, but it's right, it's
real close. It's right in the middle of where you
want to be. And at number ten of the Gastonian
had a good friend. His name was Gaston. An intimate
bed and breakfast. I haven't stayed here, set in a
historic mansion known for its personalized service. Okay, I mean

(11:00):
bed and breakfast always sounds pretty awesome. So let's move
on to our next little short list of five five
of the most haunted places in Savannah. Let's start with
number five and then I'll give a drum roll for
number one. Number five the Hampton Lillbridge House, often called

(11:22):
Savannah's most haunted house, this private residence has a history
of paranormal activity, including unexplained noises and sidings. Yep, I'd
like to stay there during the day. Okay, this one
just sounds the name of this just sounds haunted to me.
This house was meant to be haunted. The Gribble House

(11:43):
grbb l E right, this house has to be haunted,
and of course it was the site of a gruesome
triple murder in nineteen oh nine. The location is believed
to be haunted by the victims spirit, with reports of
unexplained noises and apparitions.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
I mean, I gotta be honest with you.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
I'm into ghost Hunters and all that kind of stuff.
I'm a nerd sometimes and I'm a kind of a
sci fi guy, so it kind of goes hand in hand.
But man, I do I've watched almost every episode of
ghost Hunters, the original Ghost Hunters. So number three Madison
Square considered one of Savannah's most haunted outdoor locations. Visitors

(12:26):
have reported sightings of shadowy figures, possibly linked to the
Revolutionary War battles fought.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
In the area.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I love something about being outside and seeing like spooky
things like graveyards and stuff. Number two the Pirates House.
Dating back to seventeen fifty three, This historic tavern is
said to be haunted by the spirits of sailors and
pirates who frequented the establishment. Man pirates in those taverns,

(12:55):
I bet they were ticked off if they ever ran
out of beer, So they're coming back to to do
some haunting and let here drumroll, okay. Number one, and
this is kind of cool though. The Moon River Brewing
Company Right built in eighteen twenty one as the City Hotel,

(13:15):
this establishment is repeatedly and reputedly actually, it's just reputedly
haunted by spirits from its past, including guests and staff
who melt who met untimely deaths.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Talk about service, but you know, make sure you come
with a cold beer. You probably wouldn't even care. So anyway,
that's what I got for you today. I hope the
list was good, and you know, I'll tell you what
we're going to get back into it next week or
next episode. I don't know what day that's going to be,
but it's going to be good. And we hope you
go ahead and make those reservations and start heading down

(13:51):
to Savannah because the springtime is a great time to go,
like we talked about shoulder months. Y'all have a great
day and I'll see you next time. And God bless
