Speaker 1 (00:06):
More than thirty people.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Have died as a result of Hurricane Melissa as it
rips through Jamaica, Cuba and is certainly on its way
to the Bahamas and may.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Scrape by Bermuda.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
We'll talk about that, plus the President ordering the resuming
of testing of nuclear weapons here in the US, something
that hasn't been done in decades. Hey, I'm Kate Delaney.
Welcome to the show. At always what we do at
the beginning, we head to the rundown. So the meeting
(00:44):
wrapped up after an hour and forty minutes. There's a
lot of things on the table between the two leaders
they hadn't met. That would be our president, President Trump
and President She for the first time in six years
doing so again. The world watching to see what will happen.
Especially on the table the crippling trade or that was
a big concern, but there were other things. TikTok and
(01:06):
the transfer from Beijing based company, a Beijing based company
to an American company or a group of American entrepreneurs
who want to buy TikTok. And it seems little, but
it's significant because so many thought, hey, this is an
open portal for China to spy and there was big
(01:27):
concerns that this needs to be shut down. That would
be a huge, huge, complete switch, and it looks like
that should happen. And then fentanyl related problems in China
and that coming to the United States, which the President says,
our president is tied to the tariffs on China. Not
much has eked out of that meeting other than friendly
(01:48):
smiles and gold gifts that were given to each other
and pictures of the sit down, and so you can
imagine one hour and forty minutes would fly by pretty quickly.
This was the last stop on the Asia trip. There
were three legs to it. I think within a handful
of hours we may know a little bit more and
(02:10):
maybe there's some framework for some agreements that kind of thing.
And then certainly in the next couple of days, if
anything significant popped out of that meeting, we'll certainly know
more about that. But again, heading into the meeting, one
of the big things that happened was the President saying
he was ending the thirty year moratorium on testing and
(02:31):
the reason why I was to keep up with Russia
and China's capabilities. Big deal when it comes to interest
rates in this country, because it can affect mortgages and
credit cards, borrowing rates, all that sort of thing, and
definitely it affects the news on the street. There is
something about the interest rate cuts that do lead to
(02:53):
more success, at least a bump anyway for a day
or two. Federal Reserve chairge your own Powell earlier in
the day.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Today, the Federal Open Market Committee decided to lower our
policy interest rate by a quarter percentage point.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Our biggest place that anyone will see it is if
you're a home buyer, you could save, depending on what
kind of house you're getting in loan and all of that,
maybe one hundred and fifty bucks if you were in
like the three hundred and seventy five thousand dollars range,
that would be significant. One hundred and fifty off monthly.
Add that all up, and then a little bit on
credit cards. Not giant over the course of a loan
(03:31):
because of the variable rates there. But again it is
a lift when we hear of the cut, and we'll
see if there's a cut in December, but it seems
like the way Powell was leaning that there would not
be a cut. In Jamaica, they say they have not problems,
but situations and they certainly had a very big situation
(03:54):
with Hurricane Melissa. And when the daylight came then you
could really see the tragedy of what it's brought to
that island nation that so many Americans love and often
go to honeymoon or go to vacation with kids, etc.
But the storm's forceful winds up to one hundred and
eighty five mile and hour winds caused widespread destruction, killing
(04:18):
at least thirty people. We don't even know the true
toll yet. That'll become clearer in the next couple of
days because there's areas they can't get to.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
And it was of course.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
The strongest to smash into Jamaica on record. It knocked
out power for most of the country part of that
path of destruction. In the Caribbean, hotter than average water
paired with minimal disruptive winds higher in the atmosphere create
that perfect fuel that we all hate and our prime
(04:49):
for hurricane conditions. That's what allowed Melissa to strengthen and
slowly make its way to Jamaica, so it morphed into
that high end CAT five are homes that are just
absolutely shredded. There are roofs peeled off of houses that
have part of the house there, there are boats in
the street. It is everything one could imagine. The situation
(05:12):
is considered to be catastrophic for Jamaica. The storm of
the century. Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, it had crossed into
eastern Cuba and as a Cat three, a lot of
Cuba was evacuated. Then it hit the Bahamas on Wednesday
and it's been downgraded now as of this leaving my
(05:35):
lips to a Cat one. But it does leave torrential
flooding rain, damaging winds, and the storm surge is the
thing that can really nip you and on the coast, that's.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Part of it.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
The good thing about Cuba was, like I said, seven
hundred and thirty five thousand people were evacuated as Melissa
was approaching. If we go back to Jamaica, a lot
of American tourists are hoping to get off the island
and say they feel very fortunate that they survived it.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Here's Alicia White, we feel safe.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Our resource deaf has made sure that we feel safe
throughout this entire experience. They were outside during a hurricane
making sure that anything that was being damaged. They were
fixing it. Anyone's rooms who glass shattered or their roots
caves in, they made sure they've changed their rooms. Everything
has been amazing here at our resort, and we're staying
(06:26):
at Deja All Inclusive Resort in Montego Bay, right on
the Hip Street.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Forty two million Americans are going to struggle to buy
food because they get the benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance program. The government is into day thirty of a shutdown,
so it doesn't look like there is any end in sight.
Although Senator or Senate rather Majority Leader John Thune did
(06:54):
feel optimistic and feels like they the conversations have ticked
up what he called significantly, and it might be a
precursor of things to come. Tom Tillis, Republican Senator from
North Carolina, disagrees. He says he hasn't seen any evidence
that we've progressed in any way on the Hill to
formal negotiations. So what about snap The President was asked
(07:16):
about that on Air Force one, and here's what he said.
The Democrats have cause the problem on food stamps, say,
for of course, all they have to do is sign
and nobody assigning at this point, so they is suing
going on. The California Attorney General Rob Banta rather says
that they can fund SNAP the government if they wanted
(07:37):
to do it.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
They just have dug in.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
They have the legal requirement, a legal imperative, not to
mention a moral imperative, but legally they are required under
the SNAP Act to move the funds in the Contingency
Fund out onto the street to help hungry children, seniors,
veterans disabled eat. The language is a shall language that
(08:02):
says the money shall be used to ensure the necessary
operations of the SNAP program.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
We move to a lighter side of sports, the Big
Escape for many of us. The Blue Jays are on
the brink after beating the Dodgers in Game five that
was powered by twelve fat strikeouts by rookie Trey Yesavage's
record breaking outing. So now they have a three to
two edge heading back to Toronto when the next one
(08:34):
they win. The World Series coming up next, we need
a little breather, We need something light, So it is
our weekly one liner festivities that will kick off with
the Zinger Zone.

Family friends ask me about it. I'm like, yes, you
should look into this. It's really a great option for
a lot of people.

That's what I tell people.

great ways.

Honestly.

Yeah, and a lot of people who've switched tell me
that it's the same reaction. They're very, very happy with it,
and it gives them peace of mind and saves them
a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
I would tell people look into it, yep.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
So really, for reals, if you want to talk to them,
they're great to talk to you. I think you'll be

So just like turning the clocks back, as we fall back.
You do have National Cat Day once a year and
it started in two thousand and five, believe it or
not by an animal welfare advocate to raise awareness about
the number of cats and shelters in need of homes
and to encourage adoption. So clever marketing right, and people
(12:33):
celebrate Cat Day in a lot of different ways. A
lot of it is tied to shelters and volunteering.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
And you know, all of that.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
So these Zinger zones or one liners are focused on
the cat. Since the Minnesota two both have cats, Skittles
and Kevin, it is perfect for them.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Right.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
For me, cats are tough, And the reason they're tough
is I like cats. I grew up with cats. My
brother was alurgity dog, so we never had a dog.
But I live in a neighborhood that's a huge pet
friendly neighborhood. Tons of dogs, and you see people walking
their dogs. But the cats, they're not into our cats.
Somehow they find their way outside. And Guinness is not
(13:22):
a fan of the cat because it'll just come slurking
around the bush and all of a sudden he'll be
standing on his hind legs and I'll be pulling on
that leash. I might be familiar for some of you anyway.
All right, so here come the jokes. Why are cats
so relaxed because they live in the meow? If all
(13:45):
dogs go to heaven and they do, where do cats
go purgatory? Why are cats better than babies? Well, when
you're done holding a cat, you can just drop them,
(14:06):
of course, right of course, of course, of course, all right,
what scams do cats always fall for?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Fishing? Links. What's a cat's favorite condiment? Mayo?
Speaker 2 (14:33):
What's worse than raining cats and dogs? Hailing taxis?
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Of course?
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Do people even get taxes anymore? Aren't we an uber
lift nation?
Speaker 1 (14:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
If you go to New York, sometimes it's better to
try to grab a cab than it is to wait
for an uber. It just depends on where you depends
on where you are. If the earth really is flat,
wouldn't cats have pushed everything off the edge by now?
Speaker 1 (15:06):
You know what I'm talking about? You cat owners? Definitely?
Did you know?
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Cats don't go missing? They just take time off from you.
Where's the cat? The cat disappeared? I don't understand it.
Where is it? Where do cats keep their lipstick in
their purse?
Speaker 13 (15:28):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:28):
That was a good one. Come on, What's I got
another one like that? What's the cat's favorite color? Purple? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:43):
My six year old niece told me that one, right,
So you get you know, take what you will, Take
what you will from it. Why do cats make the
fluffiest omelets? They have the best whiskers. Why are there
no cats on Mars?
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Curiosity? Kill them all? What do you call it when
cats rebel?
Speaker 13 (16:16):
Me?
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Tiny?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Oh? I had won them written, and I don't think
I want to tell now this is what happens. I
think I get the biggest laughs out of this. I'm
not sure about the rest of you.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
All Right.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
What do you call a cat who works in business?
A professional? This is my favorite. Why don't cats like
house parties? Too many catastrophes? I got hundreds of these.
(16:53):
Why don't kittens like online shopping? They prefer catalogs? Okay,
this is a good one. What's a cat's favorite television show?
Clawn Order Special Kittens Unit? Of Course? Why is it
(17:17):
annoying to watch television with cats? They keep pausing the show?
What did the alien cat?
Speaker 13 (17:31):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Duh?
Speaker 2 (17:32):
This this is called telling the joke wrong. What did
the aliens say to the cat? Take me to your litter?
This is a layup, people, This one's a layup. You
can all memorize this. Take it from me. I'm sure
a million people have told this joke in some way.
What do you call a cat who loves to bowl?
(17:53):
An ali cat? What's a cat's favorite jack? Get a percoat?
Speaker 1 (18:07):
All right?
Speaker 2 (18:07):
This is also one of my favorites. What do you
call a cat prom a fur ball?
Speaker 14 (18:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Come on, that's good, all right? How about this one?
This is uh, this is for cats who like to
go out on the town. What does a cat order
at a bar? A whiskey sour? Why aren't cats religious?
They're scared of dogma? All right?
Speaker 1 (18:46):
I got I got maybe two more for you. This
is a lot.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
I really went off on the whole cat thing, right, Okay?
So why did the cat wear a tuxedo? He was
feline fancy? Why was the catafraid of the tree because
of its mark?
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (19:16):
And is always saving the best for last? Why do
cats always beat dogs in video games?
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Because they have nine lives? Thank you, Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Appearing each and every week here in the Zinger Zone,
if you have a good joke, send it to me
Kate at katedalaneyradio dot com. Click on contact and let
me hear your joke. Maybe we will feature.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
It on the air. And wouldn't that be super cool
if we did that? All right?
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Major League Baseball, of course, you know, the Blue Jays
go back now to Toronto. Toronto fans couldn't be more
thrilled by that. It's been since the nineties since they've
been in a World Series. Even you know, think about that.
But it's interesting. You know, now we switch and on Halloween,
will the Dodgers be able to fend off the Blue Jays.
(20:11):
They've putting their best pitcher out there, Yamamota, and Gosman
is pitching for Toronto. So this will be at the
Rogers Center, and maybe it's going to be celebratory for
Blue Jay fans, who knows, Or maybe it's going to
be a Game seven. If it's a Game seven, that
happens on Saturday, and Max Scherzer would be back in
(20:34):
for Toronto and Glasnow would be back in for the Dodgers.
So we'll see. I was predicting six. Uh, maybe it
does go Maybe it does go seven. We are in
the beginning stages. I've said this just the other night.
I was talking about this of the NBA. But it's back,
it's real and accounts. That's the key thing. So the
(20:56):
Mavericks outpaced the Pacers one seven to one oh five
in the end. That was pretty a pretty interesting game.
Longtime friend of mine, Chuck Cooperstein is the voice of
the Mavericks. I love to see his posts during Mavericks season.
He's it's like Christmas for him when everything starts. So
(21:17):
Brandon Williams scored twenty and Dwight Powell eighteen points. That
was a big one for them in this matchup of
really injury depleted teams here at the beginning of the season.
So Dallas's bench contributed to season high sixty four points.
That's why you have a bench, right because when you
(21:39):
have to go deep, you got to go deep. The Pelicans.
We got Pelican fans in this audience, sorry to say
you are, oh and four year team. The Nuggets really
clawber the Pelicans one twenty two eighty eight the final
score at the Buzzer, and for Nugget fans, of course
it was in their tear territory and they were excited.
(22:02):
But it just was a route. Excuse me, It just
was a route, That's what it was about. And they
could never Pelicans were missing shots and missing rebounds and
just were getting out played really really, really tough. And
they also have injuries that they're dealing with too, to
superstar players.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
So what do you do. That's part of the game.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
And they moved on from there all right, coming up
next talking about not dissepting animals instead going a different
route we're talking to Samantha Crow about that on the
flip So Peter Associate director Samantha Crow is with us
(23:05):
and she's here to talk about the kind Frog model,
the latest facts about animal dissection, and how they can
bring the teach Kind pilot program to their schools. So interesting, Samantha,
thanks for coming on.
Speaker 13 (23:19):
Thanks so much for having me.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
So let's just dive right into it. Teach Kind's pilot
program launched last year. Describe if you would, the differences
between it and the old traditional method of dissection.
Speaker 13 (23:32):
Absolutely so. Teach Kind Science's pilot program launched and we
have donated more than fifteen thousand kind frogs to teachers
and schools around the US. The biggest difference is that
with animal free dissection methods, teachers see a much more
(23:54):
student involvement and student learning is improved as well. And
the benefits, of course include not having to smell formaldehyde,
not having you know, to kill millions of animals every
year for the dissection trade, and you know, it's really
a win win.
Speaker 14 (24:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
So you said this, the involvement with the kids and
what they're seeing. So what do children and teachers think
of it? What have they said?
Speaker 13 (24:23):
Well, everyone loves it. We've gotten a really great feedback.
Students in our pilot program who disfected kind frogs instead
of real frogs were actually relieved to learn that they
wouldn't have to cut apart an animal. And I think,
you know, just just that anecdote speaks for itself. The students,
(24:43):
of course, you know, describe the kind frogs as cool
and interactive and fun. And teachers call it a game
changer in the classroom because it has little to no
setup or clean up and no hazardous chemicals or disposal
is needed.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
And you talked about the fact that there was fifteen thousand,
So where do they come from? Where do these animals
that are used for the dissection come from? And how
many are dissected each year? Is it the fifteen thousand, No, so.
Speaker 13 (25:14):
There are actually millions of animals. At least ten million
animals are killed for classroom dissection every year. So we
are trying to reach yet just as many teachers as
we can, you know, to replace these animals. Our pilot
program is now in forty of the fifty US states,
so that's very exciting. But the animals come from various places.
(25:39):
There are animals who are captured in the wild, like
sea animals and frogs, and then they're killed for classroom dissection,
and organs and fetal pigs come from flutterhouses in fact.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Yeah, well it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
And based on what you were saying, is there a
reason to believe that the great reaction you've gotten that
animal dissection could dissuade students from the sciences. I think
it would be the opposite.
Speaker 13 (26:07):
Yeah, So disfecting a real animal can absolutely dissuade students
from pursuing careers in science. So that's why we're encouraging
teachers to embrace the non animal methods like chime frog,
so that they will have more engagement in the classroom
and everybody will participate and we won't risk alienating anyone
(26:32):
you know who is ethically opposed to dissecting animals. Rightly so,
so the kind frog is a dissection experience and it's
much improved.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
So for parents and students that are listening, especially that
what can they do if they don't want to dissect
an animal but are being told they must.
Speaker 13 (26:53):
The good news that there are hundreds of districts in
the US that have dissection choice policy in place, and
some schools and districts have completely replaced animal dissection. So
if there's not a policy in place, we encourage parents
and students to speak up, ask the teacher about using
(27:14):
animal free methods and share information about the pilot program
which is completely free and the crime frog because students
don't want to dissect animals and teachers need to hear
that from them.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Yeah, so that where can listeners go for more information?
Speaker 13 (27:32):
Booh guds you asked? So listeners can learn more about
Peter's work to end animal dissection at peta dot org
slash dissection for teachers, they can sign up for this
year's pilot program for free animal free anatomy resources at
teachkime dot org, and students can check out pet two
(27:57):
that's the number two dot com for help from anything
from opting out of ANALYVI section or trying to get
a new vegan option in the cafeteria. So there are
many many ways to reach us. Teachcime dot org for teachers,
p two dot com for students, and PDA dot org
(28:18):
for general information on our campaign.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Samantha Crow, thank you so much.
Speaker 13 (28:24):
Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
And time for little odds and some pretty good ones too.
I want to reiterate the big story of the last
couple of days, besides obviously the sadness of the hurricane
and all the damage, but on our shores, the Federal
Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate a quarter of a
percentage point on Wednesday, who opting for its second interest
(28:47):
rate cut of course this year. And that's in that
effort to jumpstart the labor market, I would say, and
this was widely expected, we said it, and it delivers
a lowering of interest rates that have been sought by
the present since he jumped into office. For sure, the
second time around, the size of the cut falls short
of the major draw down that called for, that's been
(29:11):
called for repeatedly by President Trump. But the Fed previously
had projected an additional quarter point cut at its next
meeting in December. So we'll see Federal Chair Reserve chair,
the chairman Jerome Powell on Wednesday voice uncertainty about the
outlook for another reduction of interest rates. So I mean,
that's kind of how he plays it, right, poker face
(29:31):
to the end. But the dal Jones Industrial ivers, the
S and P five hundred and the heavy, very heavy
tech Nasdaq tick down just slightly after Powell cast a
little bit of doubt on a further rate cut. See
even the littlest of negative news will rock the world's
largest craps table. But again, that is the big news.
(29:52):
And if you're looking for a mortgage, or if you're
looking for loans that kind of thing, credit card interest rates,
there's a lot that could affect you with that number
being reduced. All right, I think this is pretty cool.
I brought this up in the last hour. I'm going
to bring it up again. Dictionary dot Com revealed it's
twenty twenty five word of the Year. Can we have
(30:16):
a drum roll please, Jason, do do?
Speaker 10 (30:23):
Do do?
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Yeah, there's the drum roll. All right, So not the fanfair,
but the drum roll. The word is and I bet
a bunch of you don't know what it is, and
maybe some of you do know what it is. Dictionary
dot Com says the newest word of the year is
six' seven and that annual pick is kind of like
a linguistic time, capsule if you, will and it's whatever's
(30:46):
happening and culturally the, slang the, references and it reflects
social trends and global. Events that's how they say they
pick the, Word so sixty seven is the. Word it's
kind of unclear as the origin, parents parents and. Teachers
easy for me to, say started hearing kids and a
lot of, teenagers especially teenagers in college students use the
(31:08):
term over the course of the, year and some say
it can be kind of interpreted as a way of,
saying so so maybe, this maybe, That But i've heard
people just scream, it so so you tell. Me dictionary
Dot com explain that the term is a result of
a classic brain rot, slang which is purposefully nonsensical and
(31:31):
is all about being on the. Absurdity, wow that's a crazy.
Explanation that's. Absurd so, again it's not sixty. Seven it's
sixty seven six, seven not sixty seven six.' seven and
it can be traced Back to scirilla's twenty four song
THAT'S what, i think doute, you know, six seven while
(31:52):
others have linked It To, LaMelo ball who is six
feet seven inches tall at rhymes so it's it. IS
interesting i think it's, part joke part, inside baseball that kind.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Of thing but.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
The OTHER day i saw somebody yelling at at one
of the GAMES and i, was, like ah they picked up.
On it they picked up, On IT so i, DON'T
know i. LIKE it i. LIKE that i like that
language is, so fluid whether we know what, it means
or we figure out what, it means or, you know whatever.
It is let's just put it, that way, and. Hey
bravo odds and ends to the people raising money to
(32:32):
help the people that don't have the money to feed
THEMSELVES because snap. Went away so there IS when i
read this Story About heretic Coffee, in portland and this
thirty seven year old said he grew Up. Watching cheers
he wanted to shop to his shop to have the
kind of that same feel like that the bar had in.
The show so what's really cool is he realized what
(32:54):
was happening with the supplemental nutritional assistance program KNOWN, as
snap that it was Drying, up november which is in
a handful, of days and so he was offering a
free breakfast including, a breakfast burrito and coffee to any
customer that's in need starting. Next month good, on you
just a, simple thing. He said we have, the food
we can give away. That food people, are hungry and
(33:15):
it's the fact that we don't want to let people.
Go hungry we're not okay, With that so whatever little
part we, can play then we're gonna. Play it and
if every restaurant, did that OR restaurants, i could, you
know just imagine that could really probably help a lot.
Of people and just as a reminder, to everybody don't
forget about winding the, clocks back, because remember we fall
(33:39):
back for. SOME reason i have to really pound that
into myself and put a note up and that kind.
OF thing i guess IT'S because i don't think about
it over, the weekend and that's when. That happens, i'm
sorry and it's like a made. Up THING but i
like the idea that we do.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Get that extra.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Hour sleep So hopefully ginnis sleeps in and my wall
can be pushed, with HIM which, i love can be
pushed a little. BIT later, i mean and all of
you get that extra hour Of sleep, i'm assuming or
maybe you get in an hour that you get up
earlier and putter around and do whatever it is that,
you do but don't forget to push those clocks back
so that you know two o'clock whatever Heading, into sunday
(34:19):
you get that. Extra hour and on, that note, my
friends thanks for listening to this show. As Always I'm

Speaker 2 (38:07):
Zeros quinn lamont joins us here in author's corner to
talk about the wolves, Of o'kerian and let me, tell
you this book pulls you. Right In So kate delady
here on atn and we're happy to have them to
talk about this book and this Is The lightning child,
book one by, the way and how this series will.
(38:29):
Move Along, so quinn thanks so much for, Coming on.
Speaker 14 (38:33):
Thank you for. Having me so first, of.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
All let's Talk.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
About okerian tell us about that mystical realm.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
You, created.
Speaker 14 (38:41):
Well o'kerian is a consonant that belongs to the realm Of.
Troll guard it's the entire, realm itself or the planet
as you can. Call it it's pretty much made up.
Of trolls trolls are these. Tall beings it's usually from
eight to. Ten feet some of them have, two arms
some of them, have four and they are. Pretty superpowered
(39:02):
they're like super human like you'd see in like a
comic Book. Like.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Superman cool so and talking, about that and YOU and
i talked about this off the. Air too what's so
interesting is some of the characters, In THIS so i
want you to introduce. The characters but first let's rewind
for a second and tell us how did you? Create
this what sent you in this direction to write this
(39:28):
novel and to come up with this science fiction fantasy that.
Speaker 10 (39:33):
You, did.
Speaker 14 (39:35):
Well we don't have to go back to. TWENTY fourteen
i Believe IN october i started writing some some plot
points to a much LARGER story i find. On doing
BUT then i would Say that i'm on, twenty fifteen,
TWENTY sixteen I sor i've had to put that on
(39:57):
the back burner to do to my. Personal schedule AND
then i would say about three, YEARS ago i DECIDED
that i wanted to, still write but. Something SMALLER so I,
took lunaria the main Character of Wolves of opeian who
appeared in my, other story and just gave her pretty much.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
A backstory, ah Yeah and lunaria is the young. Troll,
princess yes and so in Talking about lunaria and the
fact that she WAS very i guess in my estimation
And what, I'VE read i get the feeling she wants
to carve out her, own world her own destiny in,
(40:36):
other words and in the middle of this crazy chaos
of the nine realms, You created.
Speaker 14 (40:43):
Oh yeah she feels sort of out. OF place, i
mean she has a, decent family but still feels like
she could be doing, more.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Right and what happens when you know you're talking about
battles and you're talking about battling. Fellow trolls when you were,
creating this was it just kind of pouring out?
Speaker 6 (41:07):
Of, you.
Speaker 13 (41:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (41:10):
PRETTY much i love writing a battle scenes just because
it gets there are so many emotions and feelings you.
Can have, you know the smell of the taste that
hears and the sounds what. You hear it's all just amazing.
Speaker 9 (41:26):
TO me i.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Love that that's a sign of a. Good writer so
you really got immersed in all, of this and, you
know ultimately what tell us more about the Quest of
lunaria and? What happens don't tell, us everything because people
can get the book for a song really paperback kindle that,
they want or even a hard cover book and get
(41:47):
That on amazon. Of course and we're talking About the Wolves.
Of okerian so tell us more about. The, story.
Speaker 14 (41:57):
Well the story Follows in naria as well as some
other characters throughout this, whole rebellion and we Focus, on
lunaria Her, brother herna and one of, The Antagonists. King,
fargar NOW originally i had only planned On doing Lunaria
(42:19):
and fargar as, pog CHARACTERS but i figured the book
would have been too short for, my LIKING so I
added herna. As well and then one of THE things
i Liked about henna is the fact that he is
one thousands of years old but still has trouble finding
his purpose. As well.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
And that's kind of like the overarching theme is.
Speaker 14 (42:43):
Finding, purpose, yes definitely because, YOU know i think every
single one of us wants to find a purpose or have. A.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
Purpose, yeah absolutely and you talk. ABOUT it i mean
this this book has twenty. Seven chapters, you know you
take us right to, the end all the way to
what you call the, final blow which, it is but
it's it's interesting you talk About the. Queen's madness tell us,
about that and that's like halfway through, the book maybe
a little. Over halfway tell us About the. Queen's, madness well.
Speaker 13 (43:17):
That was.
Speaker 14 (43:19):
Definitely one of the harder points, to write, because obviously,
you know parents are supposed to love for, their children
will to care for. Their children HOW do I write
Queen a sagmer as this woman who is both suffering
but also not entirely relatable in terms of. Her motivation
(43:40):
SO what i DID was i gave her Like this
really she's a grieving mother. Pretty much she's grieving the
loss of someone she loved and that has caused an
immense amount of hatred and. Negative emotions.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
Oh so you can just imagine where you could take
this story. From there and when people read, the book
what do you hope, you Know the lightning? Childbook one
what do you hope they take away from? The BOOK.
Speaker 14 (44:12):
What i want them to take away from this. Is
no life can. Be difficult life can do you some,
tough hands but you have to push. Through it sometimes
you don't always have a choice in. The matter but when,
things happen ge't.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
BE ready i, like that when, things happen you have to.
Be ready so tell us, what's next because we're not
done with the, you know we Got The. Lightning child
what's next? After?
Speaker 14 (44:37):
This oh. GOOD question i am working on. THE sequel
i am almost done the second YEAR offt i have
to rewrite some chapters just to make it. Slow BETTER
but i will, Say that, let's see WHAT can i
say that isn't going to be? A spoiler, Oh dear.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
There's gonna be, more, Challenges right there's gonna be more,
more drama, more battles.
Speaker 14 (45:07):
Definitely, more drama. More challenges the next book is going
to be a little more center around politics as opposed to.
Just combat there's going to be some. Slight assassinations is
going to be, you know, just chaos. MINOR chaos i, would.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
Say, all right that's, the hint.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Minor chaos so for you putting out this the, first book,
you Know the Wolves of okerian And the lightning, childbook
one and then you, were like we're not giving too
many details about the, second book but then there's the,
second book and you gave us some good hints for
you in, doing this did you have were there people
you followed that pulled you? Into this, you, KNOW wow
(45:56):
i can do This or. I'M interested i, LOVE fantasy
i love. SCI fi i liked the whole coming, OF
age i love all. Of that how did that pull?
Speaker 1 (46:04):
You, IN.
Speaker 14 (46:06):
Well i started my, FANTASY journey i would say ABOUT
when i was like fifteen in. HIGH school i loved
and Still love Conan novels Conan. The, barbarian yeah that
was one of my introductions, into fantasy AND so i
wanted to not only that but also the young hero's
(46:27):
journey starting off when they're like just new and then
going until they're an adult and see that transition from,
you know naive child to an adult.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Nice and it's so interesting that that. Influenced you and
then who. Would know would you've ever thought that you
would have been an author and that you would have
have gone down.
Speaker 14 (46:49):
This road i'll say it in, THE beginning i would
NEVER think i would have been able to publish, my
book just because it felt like it was just a,
daunting ask like even with wolves, or hearing which was
which is much shorter than my. ORIGINAL idea i, Was,
thinking Okay what i'm? Done writing now?
Speaker 13 (47:11):
What?
Speaker 1 (47:13):
RIGHT now i got to go through.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
THE process i have to have it, put together, an
edit and all the things that come along.
Speaker 14 (47:19):
With, that, yeah definitely it was, definitely daunting but.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Worth it and you KNOW what i said this in,
THE beginning i just love it's it's like haunting kind
of pulls. YOU in i love. The cover how did
you come up with? That, idea well.
Speaker 14 (47:36):
My publishers pretty much sent me it is ideas well
of other. Book COVERS what, i LIKE what i, didn't
like AND ultimately i wanted something that was simple and to,
the point but also got the feeling of, the, BOOK.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
Well i think you nailed. It finely and those just those,
pearly eyes like the blue in the eyes and the
beauty of the wolf. For sure, so again this book
is easy to pick Up. On Amazon the Wolves Of Okirian,
quinn lamont thank you so much for, Coming on thank
you so much for having me
