In the premiere episode of 'Ask A Coach,' I introduce this passion project designed to highlight the talent and wisdom of life coaches.

Nan, a Paris-based Life Coach School certified coach, went from a stressed English teacher to a bodybuilding enthusiast at 50.

She discusses the importance of curiosity in coaching, emphasizing the role of a coach as a detective rather than a judge.

Nan advises new coaches to ask questions and stay curious, offering thoughts that help maintain curiosity in sessions. Her simple and kind approach aims to help clients overcome food-related challenges without guilt or shame.

Trista (00:01):
Hey everybody.
Welcome to the very firstepisode of Ask A Coach.
Thank you so much for joining meand I am so happy that you are here.
This is a passion project for me.
I was certified by the Life CoachSchool by Brooke Castillo, and I wanted
to showcase some of the talent, theexperience, the skill, all of that

(00:26):
we have gained and we have learned, andwe have honed over the past several years.
There are some amazing coachesout there and they have a lot of
wisdom and advice to share with you,and so I hope you find it useful.
Whether you've been coachingfor one month, one year, 10
years, it doesn't matter.

(00:47):
I wanted to showcase some ofthese extraordinary coaches for
you, and I just miss them so
it was a good excuse to reach out toeverybody and say hello, some of whom
I know, some of whom I never met, butI had admired their work from afar
and it's just a great opportunity forus to sort of virtually come together

(01:11):
again and enjoy each other's company.
So this first episode is by Nan, shortfor Nadege,, the Paris based powerhouse
who went from stressed out Englishteacher to body building badass at 50.
She is a Life Coach School certifiedcoach and knows exactly what it's like

(01:32):
to feel like food is running the show.
She's been in the binge eating, mindlesssnacking trenches, but now she's
completely flipped that script and she'shere to talk to us about staying curious.
Nan eats chocolate and enjoys herlife, and she dropped three dress
sizes while building serious muscle.

(01:52):
For over five years, Nan has been helpingher clients ditch the food drama using
her signature approach, simple, kind, and all about rewiring your brain.
There's no guilt, no shame, noridiculous rules, just results.
And her clients stop overeating, crushtheir cravings, and finally feel in
control of their bodies and their lives.

(02:15):
So the bottom line is Nan believes thatchange should be easy and fun, and she's
here to prove that you can create a lifeyou absolutely love, croissant and all.
The question that I gave Nanwas: what's the best advice
you have to give a new coach?

Nan (02:38):
One of my clients said, I can't get the job.
There are so many other applicants, and I just noted thinking,
yeah, that could be hard.
But later I asked, wait, howmany applicants are there?
And she said, oh, I have no idea.
I just assumed there are many.
I.
That's when I realized, even asan experienced coach, it's so

(02:58):
easy to believe what our clientssay without questioning it.
But our job isn't to believeeverything they tell us.
It's to get curious about it.
That's the best advice I'veever received as a coach.
Be curious.
It's like being a detective, not a judge.
A judge says case closed.
A detective says, Hmm, whatelse could be true here?

(03:21):
Or like a scientist, Albert Einsteinonce said, I have no special talent.
I'm only passionately curious.
Let curiosity be your talent.
Here are a few thoughts that help me feelcurious, especially when I'm coaching.
I want to know what's bothering her.
I wonder why that's a problem for her.

(03:43):
I just want to understandwhat she's feeling.
Let's gather some more data.
Is there another way to look at this?
Basically, I want to know more.
That helps me ask, is that a fact?
Would everyone on earth agree on that?
So if you're a new coach,here's what I'd say.

(04:04):
You don't need to know all the answers.
You don't need to fix anything.
Just stay curious.
Ask the next question.
That's where the magic is.
