Today on Battle in the Morning, things got heated after a caller shared his dilemma: as a little league coach, he benched a player who’s always late, not because of the kid, but because his mom can’t get him there on time. Now he’s wondering if he’s being fair to the team, or just punishing a kid for something out of his control. Battle breaks it down, takes your calls, and opens up the debate: is this tough love, or too harsh?

trending this morning. We all remember that interesting time at

(00:43):
the cold Play concert where the CEO was shacking up
with his HR lady. And well, now the husband of
the woman in the Coldplay kiss cam is now speaking out. Yeah,
the husband of the HR chief caught in the cold
Play kiss cam scandals now speaking out. Afternoons of Kristen
Cabot filing from divorce from her husband, Andrew Cabot came out.

(01:05):
Andrew's rep shared with people that he and Kristen were
privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert.
The rep added, now that the divorce filing is public,
Andrew hopes this provides respectful closure to the speculation and
allow his family the privacy they've always valued. Also, Tennessee
is the first state in the US to mandate gun

(01:27):
safety training for public school students. The new law addresses
gun related tragedies and accidental shooting. Students will learn basic
gun safety practices like how to handle finding a gun
and general firearms safety. They say that the curriculum will
be carried out by each school district and will not
involve real guns or ammunition. Children as young as kindergarten

(01:50):
age will also be a part of the program. That
is a look at what's trending this morning on the
Way next will play one Stupid Question for Holiday World tickets.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Classic Rock Rock.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Look. I am no sports expert. I am just a
casual fan. Right, it's one O five nine the right,
Nashville's Classic Rock. It's Battle in the Morning. But what
I do know is I know certain rules of the game,
unlike our head coach for the Tennessee Titans, Brian Callahan.
As you might have heard on Sunday, there was a

(02:28):
play and he said.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
This, Yeah, you gotta get a foot in bounce too,
which we didn't have a clean look at whether his
foot was down as well, And how about doesn't equal
two feet so his foot would had to come down
as well. We didn't have a clean look. So the
golf from upstairs is that it wasn't more challenging.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yeah, so he said that he was like, ah, that
didn't count, blah blah blah blah blah. Well, when you
look at the rules, that did count as a catch,
and that play could have changed things for the Titans
for the remainder of the game. But yesterday, hearing Brian
Alahan's press conference, he then had to backtrack his statements

(03:03):
from what he said on Sunday. And here's what he said. Here,
my interpretation of the rule is wrong.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
I'll own it.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
You should have challenged to play.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
And that's pretty much all I can say about just
all own them to mistake.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Should challenge it.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
And that's where it stands. You didn't know the rules,
like that's like a requirement of being a head coach.
You gotta know the rules, bro, I don't know. I
I have a feeling Brian Callahan will not be the
Titans coach after the season, just the way things looked
on Sunday. IM just saying six, three, seven, one five

(03:38):
nine is the number. If you want to jump in,
we'll play one stupid question for Holiday World tickets. Who
We'll get somebody on the phone to play next. Let's

stupid question this morning. Let's meet our contestant. It's one

it right this morning, somebody's going to be able to

your one stupid question? Joe An? Yeah, here is your

what I like to hear. Tell us what stations hooking

out a brief fall. We're gonna come back to you
and grab your information. We'll do it again tomorrow. One

(04:58):
stupid question for Holiday World tickets around this time. Again
tomorrow we ask you one stupid question.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
You know the great thing about this show is, uh,
without you, this wouldn't even be possible. It's one oh
five nine The Right Nashville's Classic Rockets Battle in the Morning.
If you ever want to be a part of the show,
you got a thought, you got an opinion, or you
just want to start a conversation off six seven three seven,
one oh five nine is the number. What do you

(05:57):
want to talk about today? If you ever want to
be a part of the show, one of two ways
you can do so. You can do it the old
fashioned way by calling us six one five seven thirty
seven one five nine is the number. Or if you
listen on the iHeartRadio, you can always say that little
red microphone button. We call it the talkback mic. It's

(06:17):
one o five nine in the Rock Nashville. It's classic rock.
It's battle in the morning. Uh, let's go to the
phones and see what people want to talk about this morning.
It's one o five nine in the rock. Hi, who's this?

Speaker 8 (06:25):
Hey morning?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
This is Tommy, Tommy. What's going on? Brother? What's what's
on your mind this morning?

Speaker 8 (06:31):
Uh? So, I volunteer as a coach for like a
little league. There's one of my players, this this kid
who comes late every single time we have practice. He's
late to games, he's late to everything. So I had
to bench him. The thing is, I know it's not
his fault and brought up the kid is driving himself.

(06:51):
It's his mom that's always late. And I've met this
woman many times. She seems like she's kind of a
hot mess. Uh huh, But I can't let this kid
who's always late, you know, participate in the game when
all the other kids are showing up on time. You
know what I mean? Am I a jerk?

Speaker 6 (07:05):
Here?

Speaker 4 (07:06):
See?

Speaker 1 (07:07):
This is one of those slippery slopes in a way,
because you don't know what's going on, uh with that
mom or that family and that kid. You don't don't
know why she's constantly late. But also, like you know,
rules are rules, and you gotta stick with that. If
they're constantly late, that's that's a precedent that oh well,

(07:27):
if Jimmy could be late and get to play, then
I could be late and get to play.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
But we'll see what other people think if you're a
jerk or not for benching the kid because his mom
is always late, because again we don't know what's going
on in their personal life and why they're constantly late.
But we'll get some thoughts on this. What do we
think it is Tommy a jerker? Not for benching the
kid because his mom is always late dropping him off
to practicing games six seven, three, seven, one five nine

(07:53):
is the number. We'll take your phone calls next be

Tommy called in If you missed it, It's twe oh
five nine in The Rock, Nashville's classic Rockets Battle in
the Morning. He is a little league coach that has
benched a kid for always being late, even though it's
the mom's fault, not it's the kid's fault. Is that
tough love? Is it too harsh? What do you got

(09:20):
to say? Let's go to the phone. Six one five
seven three seven, one oh five nine is the number.
It's one o five nine in the Rock. Hih, who's this?

Speaker 5 (09:26):
This is Margaret? I was just calling about the coach's ordeal.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, what's going on, Margaret? What do you got?

Speaker 5 (09:32):
I say, he needs to just have a talk with
the rest of the team before that light child gets there,
that there might be things going on, you know, And
that's the kid's lighting way because I know from experience.
I was from an abusive marriage and my kid's my
youngest flight sports and then when I divorced, his daddy quit.
But I hao getting my kids to the game too. Yeah,

(09:52):
and I also think it's a kid.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
I also think maybe he should just, you know, pull
the mom aside and just be like, hey, look, I
don't know what's going on, but you're always late. What
can I do to help?

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Exactly, but don't pin it's the child. It's not his fault, right,
he not have a hard time at all?

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Do you know both might have Margaret, I appreciate you
calling in this morning.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
Yes, sir, thank you having Oh, I.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Appreciate that, and thanks so much, Margaret.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
Alrighty, just shut up to the post office in Gallaton
for me.

Speaker 8 (10:21):
That's where I work.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Shout out to the post office in Gallatin. That's my
post office in Gallatin, by the way.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
Yeah, yeah, that's where I works.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Well.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Shout out to Margaret and the crew at the Gallatin
post Office. Again, Margaret, I appreciate you calling it in
the end this morning. Six seven three seven one oh
five nine is the number if you want to jump
in on the conversation. T O five nine the right
Nashville's classic Rockets battle in the morning on a two
for Tuesday, giving you a double shot of GNR. Right there.

(10:49):
So we have a little bit of a dilemma this morning.
In case you missed it, Tommy called it earlier in
the show, saying that he had to bench a player
because he's a little league coach who's always late thanks
to his Now he's torn between being fair to the
team and punishing the kid for something that's not his fault.
Six one five, seven, three seven, one oh five nine
is the number if you want to jump in on

(11:09):
the phone this morning. What do you think? Did he
do the right thing? Should he talk to the mom?
Let's go to the phones. It's one oh five nine
in the Rock High. Who's this?

Speaker 6 (11:18):
Hey, this is Brian. How you doing, Brian?

Speaker 1 (11:20):
What's going on? Brother? How are you?

Speaker 6 (11:22):
I'm doing great? Man, I'd like to answer that question.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, absolutely, what what do you got?

Speaker 8 (11:27):
Well?

Speaker 6 (11:27):
I believe he is not a jerk. I believe they're
hard rules for a reason. So they need to figure
out how to get him to practice on time. It's
not fair to the rest of the kids.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Right, absolutely. Now do you think maybe he should pull
the mom aside and just be like, hey, look like, hey,
you're you're late to practices, you're late to games. What
what can I do to help?

Speaker 6 (11:45):
Yes, go to the parent first, because it's not the
kid's fault, right, And.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Then that kid's sitting there and he doesn't understand, He's like,
why am I not getting to play? Why am I
always having to sit on the bench? And then that
kid might grow to hate the sport.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
It's very possibility or get Chris.

Speaker 8 (11:59):
Crull with it parents.

Speaker 6 (12:00):
So yeah, go to the parent first.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
So low awesome. I appreciate you calling in this morning. Man.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
You bet I'd rather have a good one youtubo Man.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Nine the Rock in the morning.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Six one five seven three seven, one oh five nine
is the number if you want to jump in. We're
carrying on the conversation. Tommy, who coaches little league, had
a bench a kid for always being late, even though
it's not the kid's fault, it's the mom's fault, and
he is wanting to know if it's tough love, is
it's too harsh. Let's go the phones to see what
more people have to say. It's one o five nine

(12:32):
in the rock high Who's this?

Speaker 8 (12:34):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (12:34):
This is Matt, Matt, what's up? Brother? You got a
thought on this situation?

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:37):
I do.

Speaker 6 (12:38):
I actually uh used to teach a t ball team.
Huh and uh yeah.

Speaker 8 (12:42):
The mom knew what she was expecting when she signed
her kid up to play.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
So she knew the times to be there.

Speaker 8 (12:48):
So I don't think it's wrong at all.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Do you also think maybe he should like pull the
mom aside and be like Hey, look like we've noticed
you're constantly late. What's going on? What can I do
to help? Or do you think the coach should just
let it be and just keep doing what he's doing.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
Yeah, definitely see what he could do to him.

Speaker 1 (13:03):

All right, Man, thank you, you have the bless state
my brother.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
You too, Man, have a go with Mark, and there
you have it, the deciding factor today's winner of Battle
It Out Foreigner full for you. Congratulations, Smoky, you have
got a pair of tickets for Wine on the River
this Saturday. We'll be calling you here shortly to grab
some more information from you. It's one o five nine
in the Rock, Nashville's classic rock Battle It Out with
Foreigner today's winner. Fool for you anyway. So I want

(21:51):
to go back to our conversation from earlier because people
are still wanting to chime in on it. Six seven
three seven one oh five nine is the number if
you missed it. But Tommy called in earlier. He's got
a kid on his team that he has benched because
he is constantly late. It's not the kid's fault, it's
the mom's fault. He was asking if he was a
jerk or not. I've got Kristin on hold, who wants

(22:12):
to chime in on this. So Kristin, what's up?

Speaker 11 (22:14):
I have three kids currently playing baseball, and they all
happen to end on the same time.

Speaker 6 (22:20):
I get the mom being hot.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Mess, because some days I'm not hot mess. But at
the same time.

Speaker 11 (22:26):
I think you need to look at the player when
he does show up to practice.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Is he hustling?

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Is he doing his part.

Speaker 6 (22:32):
To Hey, I need to.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Hurry and get going.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Is he's slow at gegging going, then yeah, bench him.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (22:37):
But if he is doing everything he can to make
up for being late, then you play him absolutely, and
then talk to mom, try and figure out, hey, is
there something we can do to help out? Because single
moms need some help, you know.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
And I understand exactly where you're coming from because I
used to coach both of my kids little league teams,
and there was a couple of times that I've had
kids that were super late and I would pull the
parents aside and be like, hey, look like I understand
they're late. What can I do to help? Can I
come pick up the kid and bring him to practice
and then you just pick him up once practice is over?
Can I drop him off at home? I mean, I

(23:14):
grew up in that kind of system as well, where
the coaches were always there. To help out the kids. Yeah,
I just ran into that just last week.

Speaker 11 (23:22):
I had three that needed to be at the same place,
and I'm like, I'm sorry, I can't bring him there,
Like what can we do? And they all rally together
and helped me on. I got like super emotional because
I was being helped and it it makes a difference.
So this mom that's struggling to get there on time,
let's be kind to her, Let's help her out, and
then just try and look at the attitude.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
If they're not.

Speaker 11 (23:44):
Willing to change, then there's something more to it, you know.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Yeah, absolutely, I appreciate you calling in this morning and
be a part of the show.

Speaker 11 (23:50):
Of course, have a good one.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
You too, have a good work people. If you haven't
