Research indicates that humming and singing lullabies are effective methods for soothing infants and promoting sleep.

Humming's continuous rhythm and gentle vibrations calm babies, mask startling noises, and may even encourage beneficial brain wave activity.

Singing, with its melodic qualities, has been shown to prolong calmness in infants compared to speech. Infants across cultures respond positively to the universal elements of lullabies, suggesting an innate soothing effect.

Live parental singing offers unique benefits, especially for premature infants, aiding neural development and physiological stability. Compared to white noise, music with its structured patterns may be more beneficial for infant auditory processing and sleep.
