Speaker 1 (00:00):
Apparently, $220 is too much for a titanium frame
lock knife if it's made inChina. And, also, news to me,
using a folding knife for foodprep is taboo. Sorry we missed
deep cuts last week. Ricky and Iwere traveling, and we're
hanging out at Leatherman HQ,and we have some really cool
stuff to share with you, but notuntil next week. To hold you
over until then, we do have agiveaway from Leatherman at the

(00:23):
end of this video, so stickaround.
But for now, I'm Taylor Martin. This is deep cuts, and let's do
the damn thing. The first thingup this week, have a community
comment. This one comes fromdelay of upload, and this was
actually made on a video thatRicky made on the big idea
design overlook a couple ofweeks ago. If you haven't
checked that out, be sure to doso.

(00:44):
It's a great video. It's also agreat knife. But delay of upload
says $220 for made in China.Man, if you're gonna outsource
your production, you can'tcharge made in USA prices. But
the EDC folks will buy it up, socongrats.
It's such an interesting takebecause people, like, claim that
a knife that's $200 is, youknow, they're overcharging for

(01:04):
it and these made in AmericaAmerica prices. That's not made
in America prices. So Rickyclapped back and he said, can
you rattle off a couple of USAmade titanium folders two twenty
and under? I can't think of anyoff the top of my head. This guy
says, definitely not in mywheelhouse of retained
knowledge.
I found some on sale for around120 to 150 by doing a Google

(01:25):
search and what you asked forthough. The main issue I had was
the fact that a Chinese madeknife was going for that much.
It's even more egregious thatthey don't openly say it's
imported on the description. Ihad to dig to find out where it
was made in the first place. Idon't mind paying more for
American goods, but I definitelydon't like paying those prices
for stuff made by slave labor.
Well, for starters, it is prettyclearly labeled that most stuff

(01:47):
from Big ID Design is made inChina unless explicitly
otherwise stated. They have alogo that is specifically for
their USA made stuff. And Ithink most of these companies
are pretty open about wheretheir stuff is made. So I don't
agree with that assessment, butalso a 150 and under. So a
hundred and twenty a hundred andfifty dollars for an American
made folding knife.

(02:07):
I would love to see what hefound on Google that that says
that. Unless he's looking at,like, Spyderco knives and just
assuming they're American made, not all Spyderco knives are. I
don't know. I have no clue whathe's suggesting is a 120 to 150,
but Ricky also took thisquestion over to Instagram and
asked, can you list out a a USAmade knife? I think a titanium

(02:31):
frame lock.
Right? Titanium frame lock knifefor under $220. Let me know. And
there were a lot of replies. Oneof them here says, I just did a
Blade HQ and DLT search withthose parameters and found
nothing.
MKC EDC says closest I can thinkof is TRM, but their scales
alone are almost that much. Kissmy glass as Buck Spitfire.

(02:51):
That's not USA made. Justsaying. It's also way cheaper,
so I don't alright.
And then Everburn EDC, AmericanBlade Works has a slip joint in
titanium under 200 and severalframes under four. That's that's
the point right there. You canfind an American made knife
under $200, but it's not withinthese parameters. The Overlook

(03:12):
is completely reasonably pricedfor what it is, and the only we
we looked pretty extensively. The only American made titanium
frame lock knife that we couldfind even remotely close to $200
was a zero tolerance zero fourfive zero.
It's a much older knife. It'sprobably being phased out if I

(03:33):
were to guess. I don't know forsure. We actually had one in our
last, I believe, Bass Pro video. It's a great knife.
It's a Cincovitch design. I loveit. But originally, that was a
$300 knife. And I thought that Iwould be clever and find a
couple of Spydercos, so I lookedup the Spidey Chef made in
Taiwan. Then also the Swaybackunder $200 made in Taiwan.

(03:54):
So I guess the point here isthat it's really interesting to
see where people think Americanmade knives land on the pricing
scale. When I was launching theKlingman, I was in Pennsylvania
at a show called the it was theNRA, Great American Outdoor
Show. And people came by thebooth pretty regularly saying,
man, these are nice. How muchare they? And they were like,

(04:15):
hey, about $50.60, maybe $75.
And they're like, awesome. Madein America? And we're like, no.
They're not made in America. Andthe people were like several
people.
I I would say maybe close to adozen throughout the two or
three days that I was there. They were like, well, I'll just
go buy me a Gerber. And it'sjust like, that's also not made

(04:36):
in America. Like, yes, Gerbermakes knives in America, but if
they're $50, you're not whateveryou're buying at Walmart or
Cabela's or Academy, it's notmade in America. It's a Chinese
made knife company that'sheadquartered in America.
So the thing is, most of yourtitanium frame lock knives made

(04:56):
in America are going to beprobably $3.50 on the low end, I
would assume, going up to $500and beyond. What is what is the
cheapest one that comes to mindfor you? Like the Rockwall? The
original Rockwall from fromTactile was what? $300?
Barron Sons? Yeah. I don't know. There are some companies out
there that I think are bendingthe rules a little bit for Made

(05:19):
in America. But in general, you're looking at like 300 and
up for a titanium frame lockknife made in America.
And even then, that isconsidered a screaming deal. So
if you want Made in America, yougotta pay for it. They're
they're creating American jobsand it costs more money. And a
lot of the time, these peopleare like, I'd love to pay more
for American, but when they lookat what an American made knife

(05:39):
actually costs, they get coldfeet because it is actually
expensive. It's not a cheapordeal to make a folding knife
in America.
Regardless, thanks for yourinput, man. I would still love
to see your Google searchresults that suggested several
120 to a $150 American madetitanium frame lock folders.
I'll wait. Alright. Next up, wehave another and I'm not here to

(06:00):
just piss in everybody'scornflakes, but we have another
one.
This one is a missed a point. Wehave a comment from James
Sharper 8373, and he says, foodprep is the silliest thing to
hear people say they use apocket knife for. I get it.
You're looking for any excuse touse your new shiny toy for
something besides opening yourother shiny toys. But if you're
doing food prep, bruh, turnaround and grab a doggone

(06:22):
kitchen knife, like, it'sprobably right there.
Just grab it. And for what it'sworth, I I agree with you,
James. Like, I don't thinkthat's a bad concept. Like, I'm
not over here trimming a brisketwith a pocket knife. Could you?
Sure. I don't need a reason touse my knife more than I already
do. I don't have to go out of myway to look for use cases for a
knife, and I like having areally nice kitchen knife. So

(06:44):
when we say food prep in termsof, like, what we use our knives
for day to day, I don't thinkanybody's under the assumption
that we're actually hereprepping a meal with pocket
knife. I have.
Spicy chef's actually prettygood at it. But for the most
part, food prep means I bring mylunch here to work. I don't have
another knife here. I don't havechef knives here. I don't have

(07:05):
kitchen knives here.
But I have a whole lot of pocketknives and fixed blades, and I
will use that to cut up liketoday. I cut up my chicken with
the knife in my pocket. That'sjust something I do. My grandpa
always used his pocket knife tocut up an apple. I do the same
thing.
That's what we mean by foodprep. So I wouldn't say you're
wrong, James, but I think youmissed the point. Now we come to

(07:25):
the point where we have to thankthe people that make all of this
possible. First and foremost, you guys watching this video
make it possible. We also havechannel sponsors who we like
very, very much.

it changed my entire perspectiveon a company that I already
liked. I like them way, way morenow.

(07:46):
make amazing knife sharpeners, but they also now make knives,
globally sourced knives that areassembled in Ashland, Oregon.

(09:32):
That's it. Thank you guys forbeing channel sponsors. Now back
to the video. Next up, we havethe community carry of the week.
This comes from m z underscoreChristos.
Christos? Christos. I chose thisone for one reason. We'll get to
it. I'll explain it at the end.
But in this photo, we have aXiaomi 14. That's the phone on
the left of the photo. Next tothat is a Benchmade nine forty

(09:54):
as his primary EDC knife, aswell as the Kinepix Cobra pliers
in the five inch. He has a Poscapaint marker and a Nitecore NTP
31. That is a tactical pen.
And then finally, a Pilot g twois the the last last pin there.
He has a set of titaniumtweezers that don't have a brand
as well as a carbon fiber walletthat doesn't have a brand. Looks

(10:16):
like a kinda like a ridge stylewallet. There is a Xiaomi
Powerbank three in the bottomleft, and next to that are some
Ray Bans. They are foldingWayfarers.
I didn't even know that was athing. Folding Wayfarers? That's
cool as hell. Next to that aresome Samsung Galaxy Buds two
Pro, a Victorinox classic SD,and then finally in the bottom
right corner is a Gerber shard.M z Christos says, the $9.40 was

(10:38):
my first real buy into the EDCworld.
The rest is based on my job. I'man agricultural scientist and a
farmer. And there's a littlequestion when you fill up the
form. Is there anything we canhelp you find? Any new gear
you're looking for?
He says, yeah. I'm always opento finding better gear. Cool. I
I can't really help you there.Like, you gotta tell me what you
want, man.
I can't just better gear. Idon't know. No. The reason I

(11:01):
chose this photo were the KinepX pliers. So spending some time
at Leatherman just kindaprompted me to start carrying a
Leatherman again.
I I go back and forth oncarrying an arc, but I see this
sentiment pretty often whereit's it's kind of like this
divide. And I'm I'm moreinterested in like kinda what
that divide is or where you guysfall on it. So I want your input
on this. You can comment it downbelow. Are you a Leatherman or

(11:24):
just a multi tool kind ofperson, or or are you more of,
like, a Kinepix pliers and aVictorinox kind of person?
So our good friend, Zach in theWild, is the latter. He carries
Kinepix and another tool, andit's a really interesting
concept because if you're usinga multi tool and you need to do
two things at once, like gripsomething with the pliers and
turn a screw, you can't do thatif you only have a multi tool.

(11:48):
But if you have Kinepix and saya Tinker, you can screw
something and hold something atthe same time, so you have more
flexibility. But it's morecomplicated to carry because you
have loose pliers and a loosemulti tool that's not got any,
like, good carry solutionsunless you add, like, a gear
organizer to it. So it's veryinteresting.
Like, this guy doesn't seem tohave any kind of organizer. He's

(12:09):
just got a whole bunch of, like, loose stuff floating in his
pocket or he has an organizerthat he didn't put in the photo.
I don't know which one it is.I'm just interested to see where
you guys fall because I havetried, like, the Victorinox and
a Kinepix, and it's just not asconvenient as having a
Leatherman. I've carried a multitool for the better part of
probably fifteen years now, soI'm very, very used to having,
like, bulky heavy multi tool inmy pocket.

(12:31):
Obviously, I've carried the SOGPowerpoint a lot and many other
multi tools as well. I carried aSkeletool for years. So,
obviously, I'm I'm much moredrawn to the idea of a multi
tool that's a little lessconvenient because it's big and
bulky and heavy and everythingin one tool, but generally has,
like, a clip or something thatmakes it easier to carry. So I

(12:51):
don't know. I just saw just afloating pair of Kinepix in this
photo, and it made me thinkabout that that kind of divide.
And I don't really know where Ifall on it. I've tried, but I I
always default back to a full onmulti tool. So I am interested
to see what you guys say aboutthat. Ricky, you're a neither
person, aren't you? No multitool.
Multi tool in the bag or KineFXin the bag.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah. I typically don't carry a multi tool in my
pocket at all.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Like Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
It'd have to be a rare a rare scenario.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
I almost always have a multi tool. Power pint or the
ARC. I mean, I've gone back. It's basically been those two
for the last two years. Yeah.
And I find myself needing it notdaily, but pretty close. Thanks
for sharing it, NZ Christos.Next up, we have what's in my
pockets. Might as well show youif we're talking about it
already. We gotta do this inunder sixty seconds.
So first up, the knife is thebig idea design overlook. I

(13:40):
technically also have anotherknife in my pocket, which is the
Tactile Knife Company Redhawk,my design, and I have a
Leatherman. I got a lot of mypockets today. I'm not gonna
lie. Not gonna mince words.
We have a Leatherman Arc withthe Rips GarageTech stickers on
it. I don't know what skins. Wealso have my Zippo, the best
MEDC Zippo. The same old pin. Wehave the Pocket Pro from Big

(14:05):
Idea Design in bronze USA made.
Same flashlight. The LumenTopFrog is also in the pocket. And
the TETRA. So last time I hadthis in brass, this but time I
have a tetra two nine two intitanium from I'm gonna say Finn
the Forager, but that's not theactual name.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
It's Funky Forager.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Funky Forager. And then finally, the watch is the
UTD 8,000 in black. So that'swhat's in my pockets. What are
we doing today?

Speaker 2 (14:31):
We are guessing the price of a knife.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Price is right, dude. Price is right.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Yeah. Knife price is right. Knife Knife Fuck you.
Hell. Be is it Dana White?
Is it no. That's Jefford. No.Not Dana White. Fuck.
What's her name? Vanna White.Vanna White. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
That's Wheel of Fortune.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Wheel of Fortune.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Shit. Dude,

Speaker 2 (14:49):
if prices right have anybody? Just the guy. Right?

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Random people. Shit. Knife price is right. So we have
to guess the knife the price ofthe knife, and if you're over,
you bust, and whoever's closestwins. Yes.
Okay. Right? And if we both areover, then we'll go to our
alternative.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Alright.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Are we gonna do a countdown? Like, three, two,
one, we both say the price atthe same time?

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Sure. Alright. So the knife in question is the Vosteed
Vombat. This is a brand newknife, and it has hot swappable
scales, and I'm sure a wholebunch of other stuff that I
don't know. Information,Blazetails M390.
Might make it a little trickier.Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Yeah. Man, that completely takes away the price
I had in mind now.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
So I put these Ultem scales on it. It actually and
this is gonna make it even morecomplicated because what I took
off were aluminum scales. Sothere were aluminum on this, and
I put Ultem. It's the there'shot swappable scales, but

(15:56):
there's, a port through Yeah.You, like,

Speaker 2 (15:58):
tune the pivot without having to take the
scales off or something likethat. Okay.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Alright. I got a new price, but now I'm now I'm way
lost. I feel so confident.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Honestly, I have no idea. Okay. Ready? Alright.
We're gonna do it three, two, one.
Yeah. 321.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
+1 60 Alright. +1 69.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Alright. Said +1 50.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
+1 50 was close for me.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Vombat right here. +1 39. Oh, What? Damn.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Oh, okay. I think I went to I think I was going to
on the titanium side rather thanaluminum. Oh, man. Wow. I was
gonna say +1 50.
I was not expecting Nowtechnically

Speaker 1 (16:40):
okay. Technically, if we're gonna go because Ricky
fucked me up last time.Technically, both of these
together is one fifty.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Nah. Just saying.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Just saying.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It is. You're right. Mean, it's 20 Well, bucks, but

Speaker 1 (16:55):
it's $1.60, but it's still a bust.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
You didn't tell me.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
We gonna go again?

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Yeah. Hi.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Separately, Ricky and I go to choose another knife to
figure out the price of, and Ichoose deluxe with bacon
Damascus, and he'd pick the sinouts with bacon. Alright, so now
we're gonna choose, or guess, for the Fox Knives Suru liner
lock in Micarta, with a littlebrass backspacer.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
You didn't change the you didn't change the scales on
that.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Right? Nope. This is I got this at Blade Show two
years ago, I believe. Fox KnivesSuru. I don't

Speaker 2 (17:28):
even remember how much I paid for mine.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
M 398 steel. 321. 245. 245. Okay.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
We're close. I had I was gonna say 225 too, actually.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
+1 94. Jesus Christ. We gotta go again. We both. Oh
my god.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
We're going so high on that. Is that also m three
ninety eight? It was.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah. Alright. So the next one is the WeKnife hyphen.
It's a Gavco design, bladesteel, CPM 20 CV. Titanium
scales too.
Titanium frame lock, titaniumclip, three, two, one. Two
fifty.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Was literally gonna say one ninety five, and then I
changed my mind to

Speaker 1 (18:12):
My plan was to say

Speaker 2 (18:14):
I was gonna go

Speaker 1 (18:14):
over two seventy five, and I was like, I've been
over every time. I'm gonnaundercut.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah. Yeah. And I was

Speaker 1 (18:18):
gonna I just gotta look now.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
I was gonna say one ninety five.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Two seventy knives? Son of a I would have been
right. Okay. So, the next knifeis the Kunwoo X Padre. Blade
steel is Elmax.
32, one. 285. Okay, said 285,two ninety five? Alright.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
$10 difference.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
If we were both over.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
I was gonna go $3.15, but $2.16 9?

Speaker 1 (18:46):
69? We're both over again? Dude.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Are we going sales price, or are we going current
price? Like, what we see listedas soon Yeah. As we pull it up
on a

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Alright. We have the Chavez Kickstop, the micarta
inlay versions. Oh, man. WithDLC in three ninety steel.
Alright.
321.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
350. Alright.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Cool. Alright.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
We're we're always gonna be separated by $25.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
We're close. Alright. $4.35. Still in stock. You got
it, though.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Did I?

Speaker 1 (19:17):
I said $3.25. You said $3.50.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Yeah. But that's $4.35.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yeah. That's how prices right work.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Oh, way.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
That's why people guess a dollar on because
everybody they expect everybodyto go over. You guess a dollar,
you win. Oh, so I won? He won.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Hell, yeah. This is the best day of my life. Fuck. I
guess we're giving away a kickstop. You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
I don't wanna give away a kick stop. I want this
thing.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
You're very welcome.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Alright. Well, it's three weeks in a row.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Dude, this is great. Best day of my life.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Alright. So that means that somebody is going to
get a Kickstuff in the mail.Damn. What a gift.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Hell, yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Thank Ricky. But also in the last deep cuts, I lost
again. So I said that we weregonna give away a Klingman, and
the winner of that one was dChappell Chapel? Chapel? D
Chappell.
Whatever. Here's your comment.Congratulations. You're getting
a Klingman. And also, we had aBenchmade Mini Bedlam up for
grabs.
You had to follow theinstructions to be entered into

(20:14):
that one, and the winner of thatone is matt banner three zero
three two here on YouTube. Hesaid, what is the most amount of
knives one should bring homefrom blade show? Hashtag post
blade show. You know, I don'tknow. I've for the last few
years, come home with, like, 40knives each time.
So that's too many if you ask mebecause I can't enjoy them all,

(20:34):
which I'm in a position whereit's not about me and enjoying,
it's about me trying to showpeople. But ever since Blade
Show, I mean, was three weeksago now, and coming home from
Leatherman and spending sometime with all of this stuff,
like, I just I've forgottenabout knives that I got at Blade
Show, so it's too many. I thinkfive. Five would be a good

(20:54):
number. It's not the most, butfive would be a good number.
Finally, before we end thisshow, we have a giveaway. This
is from Leatherman directly. This is a WAVE plus. I'm not
gonna open it. It's new in box.
If you want to win a brand newLeatherman Wave, I don't know if
it's even stonewashed or black. It is stainless. So this is a
stainless Leatherman Wave. Ifyou wanna win it, check your

(21:14):
inbox for something from the EDCweekly. The instructions are at
the very end.
And if you don't have that inyour inbox, here's your reminder

With all that said, thank youguys for watching the deep cuts
and sticking around. This hasbeen a lot of fun. I've enjoyed
making these. I hate we didn'tget to last week, but just
frankly, there was too muchtravel. I was gone for almost
three weeks straight in June andit's just too much.
So we didn't get to all of thedeep cuts that we wanted to, but

(21:56):
we got to most of them and I'mpretty proud of that. But we're
back. We'll be here next week. Iwill see you guys then. Don't
forget there is an audio onlypodcast if you would like to
listen to this on your commuteor lying in bed or whatever.
I don't care how you listen.Just check out the audio only
podcast. If you can't alwayswatch these, it's another way
that you can get the deep cuts.Alright. That's it.
I'll see you guys in the nextvideo. And until then, carry on.
