Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Best East Coast Beaches for Couples, the
podcast where we dive into the most beautiful, romantic, and
fun beaches along the East Coast of the United States.
Whether you're dreaming of the laid back islands of Florida's coast,
the charm of South Carolina's beaches like Myrtle Beach, the
classic elegance of Hampton's or the lively shores of Jacksonville,

(00:25):
We're covering it all. We'll talk about where to stay,
what to do, how to make it the most of
your beach getaway. Whether you're planning a honeymoon, a weekend escape,
or just a relaxing trip for two. If it's a
beach made for couples, we're taking you there. So let's
start your next adventure in the sun and sand. So

(00:45):
everyone knows about the charm of Charleston, South Carolina, But
do you know about all the beaches, the little beaches,
the islands, Folly Beach. There are so many cool little
beaches that we need to check into for couples and
to call those coastal escapes. So I'm going to start
with one of my where I used to live for

(01:06):
over ten years, and that would be Sullivan's Island, a
short ferry ride or scenic drive from Charleston's historic district.
You know you're not really going to ferry over there.
There's a you go on ben Sorry Boulevard. You go
over the coolest little bridge. It's a swing bridge, so
it's not a drawbridge. It actually swings around. You can't

(01:30):
explain it. Sullivan's Island is such a special place, so anyway.
It offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and laid
back coastal charm. Its wide beaches stretch for miles, inviting
visitors back in the Tabascan. The sun build sand castles
and simply unwinde and the rhythmic lull of the waves.

(01:53):
The island's accessibility is a significant draw. Ample parking is
available near the beach and it's access points, making it
convenient for families and individuals alike. Wheelchair accessible ramps and
boardwalks ensure that everyone can enjoy the stunning coastal views

(02:13):
Beyond the sun drenched sands, Sullivan's Island boasts a vibrant
array of activities. The calm, clear waters are perfect for swimming, paddling, kayaking, rentals,
for kayaks and paddle boards are readily available from various
outfitters along the waterfront, providing easy access to exploring the
tranquil inlets and marshes surrounding the islands. For those seeking

(02:37):
a bit more adventure, surfing lessons offered by experience instructors
who cater to all skill levels, from complete beginners too
seasoned wave riders. I'm looking outside right now, my backyard,
and I have a beautiful ten foot orange surfboard with
a big tiger paw on it. I've had it for

(02:58):
almost three years now, and I've never used it because
I don't know how to serve. I said, you know,
I'm one of those guys I'm gonna learn if I
get this surfboard. And I had it made, you know so,
from an amazing surfboard maker. It was custom made. He's
part of the family now called him short Stick. Anyway,

(03:19):
I thought I would be out there doing it and
learning and taking lessons. I haven't done it yet, and
I feel guilty about that. But it still looks good
in my yard, you know so. I mean it's not
like just laying out in the backyard. I mean it's
hung up nicely and everything, but man, I need to
take that up. So the gentle waves make Sullivan's Island
an ideal location for learning, to serve, even for families

(03:42):
with children. That's where it's where my kids learn. The
waves are not big, but they're big enough to catch,
you know, a good ride in. So it was so
much fun. The island's natural beauty extends beyond its beaches.
The expansive of Fort Moultrie, a significant historical landmark, stands
intindal over the coastline, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the

(04:04):
Atlantic Ocean and Charleston Skyline. Visitors can explore the fort's
historic exhibits, learning about the pivotal role of American history
from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War. Guided tours
provide insightful narratives of the fort's past, bringing its storied
history to life. The fort's grounds also offer pleasant walking trails,

(04:27):
allowing visitors to appreciate the islands diverse flora and fauna.
Bird Watchers will be particularly enthralled by the variety of
species inhabiting the area, including shore birds, wading birds, and
migratory birds that frequent the coastline. It's truly is amazing
and you can just look right past the Fort Fort Moultrie,

(04:49):
right to the right and you can see Fort Sumter.
It's all right there. Sullivan's Island is not just a
haven for outdoor enthusiasts. It also boasts a charming collections
of restaurants and cafes that cater to diverse taste and preferences,
from casual beachfront eeries serving fresh seafood and classic American
fair to upscale restaurants are innovative menus and breathtaking ocean views.

(05:13):
There's something for everyone. Okay, so my favorite is definitely
High Time and that's Time High Time th hym. It's
my cheers. You know, I go there, know everybody. It's
just amazing. There's also Obstinate Daughter, which is a great

(05:36):
great place. It's one of the best places on their pose,
which is a great burger place and fish tacos and
all that kind of stuff. And of course we can't
forget Home Team for Barbecue, which is right there. I
see Old Birch's Bar and it's absolutely amazing. That's always
a good fun crowd there. And if you're gonna go

(05:56):
somewhere else. Sether Ones a little bit later in the evening,
that's the place to go. So those are my three
favorites and I'm going to stick to that. Also, don't
forget dune Levy's Pub. Make sure you take cash because
they don't take credit cards. They do have a cash
atm inside there though, So I just I mean, it's
