To Better Photos Podcast withme, brittany Porter from Be Posh
Photography at Be Posh Photo onInstagram.
If you want to follow me overthere, I'd love to hear from you
what you're loving from thepodcast, what you want to know
more of, what you'd like to seeor learn, and hopefully
incorporate that into futureepisodes.
(00:42):
So we are continuing withbuilding your business, and
today we are going to be talkingall about marketing.
So even if you don't have aphotography business, I think
this podcast will be superhelpful to any sort of business
that you are starting or want tostart and just gives you a good
(01:04):
starting point to marketwhatever business you have.
Last week we talked aboutclient experience and how making
an unforgettable clientexperience can also help your
marketing, because happy clientswant to tell their friends, and
so today we'll just dive intomore seven ways to market your
(01:31):
business or to get more clients, and ideal clients at that.
Stay tuned for that.
This week we had I was kind ofplanning out my days with the
weather and I planted a garden,a flower garden.
I'm hoping to do like cutflowers and make like bouquets
and stuff, because there'snothing that makes me happier
(01:54):
than beautiful flowers and thework that goes into growing them
.
At my old house I had, likethis cut flower garden and it
was just so fun to be able tolike cut bouquets for my house
and to give away.
I remember me and my daughtersprobably my son too when they
(02:15):
were little, we would cut likelittle bouquets and just take
them around to the neighbors andjust knock on their doors and
give them little bouquets.
And I don't know, it just makesme feel like so filled with joy
when you're giving someonebeautiful flowers.
And so I started followingsomebody on Instagram and I was
(02:38):
like when I get an idea, I haveto do it like right away.
I don't know about you, butlike if I feel inspired or
motivated, it's like I have toact like right then, otherwise
it might fizzle out and it mightnever happen.
So when I get an idea.
It's like I better start now, otherwise it just might not like
(02:58):
ever come around to my brainagain.
So I, you know, started a planfor gardening and I loved her
approach.
It was more for like the kindof let's just see what happens
approach, and so there was likesome structure to it and I don't
really know You're going tohave to stay tuned for like how
(03:20):
this pans out.
But I was nervous, you know, Ithink I talked about last week,
but I like being a photographeris kind of like a catch 22,
because you're always thinkingabout how it's going to look in
a picture.
And you know, I think I saidabout how the sunniest part of
my yard you can see like this, the, the neighbor's house, and
(03:44):
so anywhere that I reallyphotograph it's gonna have like
that house in the background, and so I was really trying to
put it on the other side of myhouse.
But it's just so shady that I'mnervous that once all the
leaves come back on the treesit's not gonna be like the ideal
spot.
So, um, I forego the.
(04:04):
Actually, I think I'm going todo both if I have enough seeds.
Um, we ordered a truckload ofcompost, like mushroom compost
and had it delivered.
And it was so much it was fouryards and basically what they
said is only one yard would fitin the back of like a normal
truck.
So we got four yards in thislike mini dump truck thing and
(04:26):
then I laid out cardboard andthen compost, or like wetted it
and then compost and then putsome fabric on top.
And then I like got to use thisblowtorch thing and create like
little holes that I was goingto put the seeds in, like
burning through the fabric mesh.
And then I planted like all myseeds Dahlia bulbs, cosmos, um
(04:50):
Zinnias and um Achillea I don'tknow how you say it Um and then
I have like a bunch of otherseeds that I'm starting inside
just in case, um.
And then we set up this likemini sprinkler sprinkler drip
system.
It's like a DIY thing on Amazon.
I have it linked in my Amazonstorefront under a garden, and
(05:13):
so that was kind of nice, but ittook forever to figure out the
directions.
But I have that set up and thenit's supposed to rain today and
it got a little cold, so I wentout in there and had to like
put like some burlap overeverything anyways.
So that was what we did thisweekend.
Um, also this week I had anewborn session and I just love
(05:35):
newborn sessions likephotographers either love them
or don't like them, and I lovethem.
So I had this little baby, ava.
She was so cute and just.
I love looking at nurseries andhow people design things and
just the colors and like justhow everything meshes together
(06:00):
and it looks so beautiful.
So I posted some of thoserecently and then this week I am
, I have another newborn shoot.
I think I'm waiting to hear whenthe baby is going to be
delivered.
So I tell my clients to goahead and book a date on the
calendar around their due dateand then they just reach out to
me whenever they are, um, justhad the baby in labor, have us
(06:25):
like scheduled, like induction,c-section, whatever, and then we
kind of go from there afterbaby's born and I try to wait
until the baby is at least sixpounds or more, um, just so that
you don't have that like supertiny, shriveled, like hard I
don't know, like not, I don'tknow.
Just like all the swaddleblankets, like like swallow them
(06:49):
.
So I try to wait until theyhave a little bit more meat on
their bones If they're like afive pounder, or if they have to
go to the NICU for any periodof time, we kind of adjust and
so, um, so that is what I do fornewborns Um, the earlier the
better, better, because I alwayssend out like a little like
package, like before before theygive birth and just like a
(07:13):
little welcome gift kind ofthing.
And I made these really cutebags that say photo ready and
they're like packaged with likedifferent things for photo day,
and so I might sell those on myEtsy or my big cartel as well
because they're so cute, allright.
So, without further ado, we aregoing to get started on the
(07:37):
marketing.
So get excited, all right.
So today we're going to betalking about marketing your
photography Seven ways to getmore clients.
Okay, so the first thing thatyou want to do is, when you
(07:57):
specifically look at Instagram, your first nine posts is like
your storefront window.
When someone looks at your page, they should know who you are,
what you offer and what makesyou unique, and so you can look
at your feed, and I think iteven suggested at one point like
(08:20):
one in every nine photos shouldbe a picture of you.
I don't know if I I I mean Imight kind of follow that just
to have like a face behind yourbusiness.
And then I think we talked aboutlike a while ago, like having a
separate Instagram for yourbusiness.
When you do your Instagram andwe've started your business one,
make sure to change yourInstagram to a business account.
(08:45):
It's going to suck at firstbecause the audio is terrible.
This is where TikTok comes infor me.
Okay, so if I create somethingor on a Instagram, on my
personal or like BePosh photo,if I already have access to
Instagram music, then I can postit there and invite my business
(09:08):
to collaborate and then I thinkyou can use the audio.
When you start a businessaccount on Instagram, you get
the worst selection of audio.
Let me just say that, okay, whenyou search for a song, it's not
going to come up.
Um, I don't know how long ittakes, but I started a um
(09:29):
apparel company back in maybelast summer and I still don't
have access to Instagram music.
So, um, this is where TikTokcomes in for me.
Okay, so I will post somethingon TikTok and it suggests and it
gets better as, like you keepposting, like what you like, it
(09:51):
starts knowing.
So I love like a lot of likevintage music.
You know sounds like it'scoming through a record player
or just like you know, justnostalgic vibes, and so a lot of
times it will go ahead andrecommend a song like that.
When I post it on TikTok, beforeyou even post it, it'll just
(10:12):
automatically add a song to it.
You can also like view trendingsongs, whatever, and so when
you post on TikTok, itautomatically downloads a, and
recently I haven't seen anyTikTok um labels on my videos.
It just once I post on TikTokit downloads it with the audio
(10:33):
to my phone.
So then I just go back over toInstagram on my business account
that doesn't have the Instagrammusic and I upload it there so
that it already has like someaudio and then somehow like
Instagram will like, add it tothe, the Instagram music thread
or like where people like searchthat audio.
Then they can see it.
(10:53):
But that's how you can getaround the the less lesser
features of starting a newbusiness account.
The great thing about thebusiness account versus the
personal is that another.
Well, okay, so you can viewyour analytics, you can see what
posts are doing.
Well, you can see insights, youcan see who's sharing your
(11:15):
stuff not who's sharing, but youcan see that it was shared, you
can see that it was saved, andthat is what Instagram is
looking at the most is yourshared and saved content, and so
that's where coming up with, like quotes or funny moments or
you know, things that people canrelate to will come in handy.
(11:35):
Is not maybe necessarily likebringing in you know someone
that's looking at your photos, but bringing them in because
you're relatable, um, andbecause someone else shared it,
um.
You want to create some ofthose things, um, and then
making sure that your Instagramprofile is um, not private.
(12:00):
So if you have it private, theonly people that are going to
see your things are the peoplethat click to follow you, and
they don't know if they want tofollow you yet because they
can't see any photos.
So make sure that that is openand that you're posting things
that you only want everyone tosee.
And what I love now is that youcan invite to collaborate so
(12:23):
you can link your personalInstagram to your business, but
people don't have to follow yourpersonal to see your business
work.
You can still keep posting yourkids, your family all that on
your personal account, andwhoever is already following you
on your personal account willalso see a post on your page
(12:47):
that is the same post on yourbusiness page, so it brings in
like double the views the peoplethat are following your
business and the people that arefollowing your personal account
.
So that is something to thinkabout Throughout this section of
marketing.
There are two apps I could notlive without as a business owner
(13:11):
.
I pay for these, I get the proversion and I will never look
back.
They have a free version and Ithink I can't.
I can't remember thedifferences between the pro and
the free.
So the free will work out untilyou realize that you need more,
(13:38):
and so I think it could be thatthe pro version will like
update memories.
So you can say, from now on, Iwant you to do blah, blah, blah
and it will save.
That will like update memories.
So you can say, from now on, Iwant you to do blah, blah, blah
and it will save that, and thenevery text thread you start, it
will remember that same thing.
So maybe for hashtags, I wantto say like, from now on, put
them in, put the hashtags in aneasy copy and paste format, and
(14:02):
so then, or remember that andthen anytime I ask for hashtags
on anything, it will rememberthat, even if it's a new text
thread I think the free one youhave to keep everything on one
text thread for it to rememberprevious um things.
The second one, and we'll kindtalk about these as we go
through the rest of themarketing suggestions.
(14:29):
The second app I highlyrecommend, and paying for the
pro version, is Canva.
Canva Pro is amazing.
They have a free version, butyou'll quickly notice that
you're going to want the probecause everything that has a
little crown on it is part ofthe pro version.
(14:50):
Otherwise, you have to pay forthat individual item and Canva
is basically like a designplatform for non-designers.
So they have these likepre-done templates and you can
search for like Instagram posts,so they already have like four
by five squares and then theyhave templates that you really
(15:14):
just like change the text, change the colors and you can
drop your photos right intothose templates, and so those
are amazing.
If you want to do any kind oflike other than just a straight
picture on your Instagram, ifyou want to add any sort of
graphic or elements or text evenover an image, like talking
(15:39):
about your brand or talkingabout yourself or maybe a quote
or tip.
There's like multiple ways todo this, rather than just in the
Instagram app and the.
I didn't mention this one, buta third one that I use
constantly for Instagram iscalled InShot and it is
(16:03):
basically for making like reelsand things like that um, outside
of the Instagram platform.
I use the free version and itis enough.
It doesn't even have like awatermark or anything on it and
you can upload like photos, umto make a reel or video, and
it's like very easy to like findyour stuff on your phone and
(16:25):
then, um, it's not clunky Like.
If you've ever tried to createlike a reel on Instagram, it
will like shut down sometimesand like completely lose
everything you just did, and Ijust find it very like.
I don't know like if my fingersare just fat or like just
trying to like zoom in enough tolike shorten the clip 'm like
this is like not for me, but inin shot it's like easier.
(16:49):
You can set the duration forlike one clip and then copy and
paste that duration to all theclips.
So, say, if your clips are allvarious times, then I can say,
oh, I just want this one to belike a bunch of photos stacked
together and I want them to allbe four seconds long.
I can set the first one to fourseconds, and then there's these
like double check marks andthat just means like copy it to
(17:10):
all of them.
So then I can make all thephotos at one seamless time be
all four seconds.
So again, that's ChatGPT Pro,canva Pro and InShot I-N-S-H-O-T
, and I'll put those links in myshow notes if you want to find
them there.
So I cannot recommend thoseenough.
(17:35):
Chatgpt alone is like yourbusiness best friend.
You can ask it anything and itwill come up with a lot.
So it really depends on theprompts that you put in and I'll
talk more about that later whatI have um for sale, uh, for new
(17:57):
business owners.
It is incredible if you'retrying to get into learning chat
GPT and you don't know what toput in, actually I'll just go
ahead and tell you Okay, so Ihave this like chat GPT
instruction guide and basicallyit helps you find your brand
(18:18):
identity, who you are and whyyou do what you do.
That's your brand.
And then it helps you find yourideal client slash, target
market, and so it is going tohelp you define, it's going to
ask you questions and you answerall the questions and then you
basically put it back into chat, gpt and then name the ideal
client.
(18:39):
Like I said I think I talkedabout this before my ideal
client, susie, and I've I haveher like specifically defined
where she likes to shop, whatshe likes to do, um, how many
kids she has, what are herfrustrations, like all these
things.
And so the pro version lets melike save her and like name her
(18:59):
and then bring her up indifferent text threads.
Um, so it could be like I havelike a million different like
text threads and it will alwaysremember, like, if I ask about
Susie, like what would Susiethink about this?
What would?
How would you hashtag this toreach somebody like Susie?
What would you caption this toreach Susie?
There's like a milliondifferent things.
(19:20):
Okay, so that would help youfind your brand identity target
market.
And then it has steps to askabout a 30-day content plan
which basically marks out everysingle day what you should post,
the hashtags you should use,the captions, and then it might
(19:41):
even have like a shot list oflike things that you would
capture or whatever.
So you can just take a day tolike, plan this all out and then
have it pre, ready and ready togo like in Instagram, and then
you don't even really have tothink about what do I post today
, what should I say, what do Ido Like or you can have it ready
and like, post it in real time,or you can have it scheduled to
(20:03):
post.
So that is my chat GPT guide inmy shop, and so that will be
linked below.
Okay, so back to my steps.
We have focus on your Instagram.
Nine grid photos, and you caneven ask chat GPT like I, my
(20:27):
brand is blah, blah, blah, andwhat are nine specific things
that I should rotate in myinstagram feed to reach my ideal
client?
So and so, um, and so that iswhat you can do for that.
All All right.
Number two you're going tothink about hashtags and SEO and
(20:49):
making your content searchable.
Okay, instagram is not just asocial platform.
It's where people go to like, search things.
Um, this has been like key forme, specifically when I'm
shopping or looking for aphotographer, or looking for
somewhere to eat or like a newplace to go, or a hair place or
(21:10):
whatever.
I go to Instagram so often andtype in what I'm looking for and
it will bring up differentthings.
So if someone says likeCharlotte family photographer
into the Instagram search bar, will your page show up, and
here's some ways that will helpit show up when people are
(21:31):
searching for you Hashtags thatare location based and client
focused.
So, using hashtags likeCharlotte family photographer or
Charlotte Charlotte maternityphotos or NC newborn photography
these location-based things, and you can be broad, like
(21:53):
Charlotte, or you can be veryspecific, like a town or county
or whatever you think people aregoing to be searching for in
that tab.
Maybe it's like surroundingcities of your city, um, or
maybe you are using a biggercity because you want, um, more
people, or you do both Um andthen adding SEO keywords into
(22:18):
your captions, um.
So this is where I use chat GBTtoo.
I'll ask like, hey, can youcreate a caption?
And you can copy and paste yourpicture into chat GPT and say,
hey, caption this, this andtarget Susie with it, and
sometimes it'll come back withlike a response and it sounds
too like not you, and you canask it to like change to a tone
(22:43):
of like a best friend style ormore personal, or you can change
it yourself based on like howit would sound if you said it.
And so, instead of writing likelove this session, how cute is
this baby?
Like whatever you can write, dreamy golden hour, maternity
(23:04):
session in Charlotte, nc.
This moment was pure magic,okay.
So see how that added like alot more keywords, um, with like
maternity session, charlotte,golden hour, dreamy.
These are using a lot of SEOkeywords that people may be
(23:26):
typing into Google or typinginto Instagram and will
hopefully find your page Thenusing location tags, like on
your photos, making sure thatyou add location on your post.
So if you click on your postand you go up to the three dots
and click edit and then at thetop you hit location and then
(23:50):
just type in the location of thesession or where you are, and
that can help people who arelike, sometimes when I'm
location scouting, I'll type onthat location or tap it on on
someone's like feed and and thatlocation will bring up any
photos that have been taken atthat location, whether it's a
(24:13):
city and I'm trying to like findsomewhere to shoot, or maybe
it's like a food place that I'mtrying to look for in that
location, maybe it is anactivity at like a new place, um
.
So location tagging onInstagram will help people find
you as well.
All right, number three reelsversus post, okay so.
(24:38):
And also carousels Okay.
So what we have learned fromAdam, whatever head of Instagram
what we have learned from Adam, whatever head of Instagram is
that static Instagram posts likephotos.
If you just put one no music,or if you put a carousel no
music, then it is going to showup specifically online to your
(25:03):
followers, unless someone sharesit to their story or to a
friend.
You're mostly going to getviewers that already follow you.
Okay so, in terms of reachingnew followers, post, static post
and static pictures are notbringing in many views.
They may get some by hashtagsif someone's searching that way,
(25:25):
location tags, whatever, butmajority of the views are going
to come from people who alreadyfollow you.
So if you don't have a bigfollowing, then I would only
suggest this post occasionally, because I still like to scroll
through people's things and notsee something moving and to kind
of like take it all in, zoom in, go at my own pace, and so I
(25:49):
still see a need for those Plus.
You want to keep, like some ofyour people who are following
you, engaged as well, and sothat is for a static post If you
are creating a reel or if youadd music to a carousel, these
are now going to show up in thesame feed, like the carousels
(26:12):
with music are going to show upon the reels tab as well.
Um, in in the home thing, um,when people are scrolling, and
okay, so reels and carousels, they will bring in new followers
.
People that are not followingyou will also see your reels.
What you can post for reels isgreat for behind the scenes
(26:37):
clips.
I have a great tripod in myAmazon storefront that you can
bring with you and set up andjust have B-roll.
You can bring with you and setup and just have B-roll Just.
You can cut out the audio laterand just have a video of you
doing what you do, whether thatis sitting and editing, whether
(26:57):
that is recording podcasts, whether that is you
photographing something, whetherthat is like whatever is behind
the scenes, maybe creatingsomething, or you can tailor
this to your business.
If you're not photography, likewhatever is behind the scenes,
maybe creating something, or youcan tailor this to your
business.
If you're not photography, likewhatever you do, just getting
video behind the scenes beforeand afters, you can make videos
(27:17):
into a reel of like your session, like favorites, or you can do
like client testimonials, likeif you have anybody write down
like a review after, or if theywant to send you like a little
video clip of like why theirsession was so special and that
can help help you reach newpeople.
(27:40):
Then carousels I love to seecarousels because it gives me an
idea of like what the wholecollection looked like for for
people's clients.
It's like, okay, you can alwayspost like find like three great
photos.
But if you have like 10 greatphotos that are all various um
like locations, like withinsomeone's house or viewpoints or
(28:04):
some of that shot list that Icreated for you guys, if you
have one from each of thosechallenges or shots and you put
one of those in each of your 10sections, you're going to have
(28:25):
an amazing carousel to showsections.
You're going to have like anamazing carousel to show.
Now, if you add audio to thatcarousel, that's when it becomes
a reel, or in the reelscategory.
Carousels can also be likeoutfit guides, session prep tips
and like Instagram wants some, wants people to stay on um
(28:48):
Instagram longer and if they areon your page for longer, then
that helps, helps your you insome way, like it helps
Instagram push you out to morepeople because people were
staying on your page longer.
So if you can create like reelsthat they have to watch over
and over and over again to likeread the text, sometimes, um, or
see like the ending, then um,then that helps.
(29:13):
Or if you have like a carouseland they have to keep swiping to
see the next thing, um, andstay there, to like read your
tip, then that also helpsInstagram push your content out
more.
And then stories Stories.
I've been told that youshouldn't post like your actual,
(29:38):
like finished photo on a story.
That should be like on yourfeed or on your reel.
But sometimes I want to getthings out to clients and just
show them a sneak peek and Ihaven't like fully done like all
the retouching or somethingthat I don't want permanent on
my feed.
Then I still push it to a storyand then that helps them
reshare the story becausethey're so excited and then I
get new followers like from that.
(29:59):
It also is helpful to get likeengagement from stories, posting
things like polls or like aquestion box or like a thumbs up
, you know, like thumbs up orthumbs down or, yes, no, things
like that to get your audienceengaged, because the more they
engage with you again, the moreyou're going to show up.
(30:20):
Now a weekly marketing plan,okay.
So an example of your marketingplan can be like Monday, you're
(30:41):
going to post a new sessionthat you did over the weekend or
last week or maybe it's fromyour portfolio.
Tuesday, you're going to sharea client testimonial or a behind
the scenes reel.
Tuesday, you're going to sharea client testimonial or a behind
the scenes reel.
Wednesday, you're going to posta carousel with FAQs, pricing
or session prep tips.
Thursday, engage with localbusinesses or potential clients
in your area.
And Friday, post a fun personalreel or client feature.
(31:02):
And so these are just thingsthat you're going to repeat
every single week until itbecomes like ingrained in you
and it takes ideas on specificthings to post for that session
or for that reel, or thecaptions to use, the hashtags to
(31:37):
use, and all that in a morepersonal way.
And then you can like print itout, or I like to use an app
called Notion is basically kindof like a Google Doc, that you
can have an app on your phoneand you can access it through a
web link that you can keep allyour notes.
I copy and paste like a lot ofstuff from ChatGPT into there
(31:59):
and then I can refer back.
It's really easy to turn thingsinto pages or checklists or
bulleted things and if you wantto know more you can search that
on YouTube on how to use Notion.
But that is really helpful inkeeping all my stuff organized
and like my content calendar andall that.
(32:21):
And okay, number five usingPinterest.
Okay, so, unlike Instagram, where your post will disappear
and go further down as you postnew things, pinterest will keep
your content searchable formonths or like even years.
(32:45):
So every session that you poston Instagram can be turned into
a Pinterest pin and this willhelp long-term traffic to your
website.
So this is what you do you goto Pinterest, you upload a new
pin and then you create like avery good description with SEO
keywords and again, you can askChatGPT to do that for you and
(33:10):
then just copy and paste it andthen link the pin to your
website, to your Instagram or tolike a form, an intake form, to
like, add to your email list.
So you can also use Canva tocreate a post and so maybe make
a goal that you're going to dofive to ten like new pins per
(33:32):
week and you can use Canva tocreate, like you know, if you
have any text or like a templatethat you want to put the photo
in, to create like new pins thatsomebody may want to click on,
so it could be trends.
You know that that people areseeing, it could be you know
(33:53):
tips, and so maybe you want toelevate the way the photo looks
or give some context to it sopeople would click on it within
Pinterest.
So that can help with long termmarketing.
All all right.
Number six is networking withlocal businesses and building
referrals.
Okay, so we've talked aboutlike the client experience and
(34:18):
like people recommending youbecause they had a great
experience.
Well, that's kind of similarinto building relationships with
local businesses that shareyour audience.
So if you are doing maternitysessions, then maybe you want to
partner with a local boutiquethat has like maternity outfits
(34:42):
and maybe you could do this likeinvite to collaborate kind of
thing, like maybe you have aclient that wears like their
dress and then or maybe theygive you a discount on something
and then you tag them and oryou invite to collaborate, so
it's on both your feeds that canaid.
I mean, anytime you want tocollaborate, it's like you want
to make sure that you'reoffering them something as well,
(35:03):
or you can collaborate withanother company to do a giveaway
, or you can start a referralpackage what is it called A
referral program and maybe yougive like a print credit, or
(35:25):
maybe you give them like adiscount off a session, or maybe
you give them like a discountoff a session, or maybe you give
them, you know, access to yourclient closet or whatever else
that you could give them.
If a new client says that theywere sent by so-and-so so, on my
intake form for my sessions, Ialways say like how did you hear
(35:48):
about me?
And they can either put likesomeone that they that told them
or referred them to me, or theycan just say Instagram.
And whenever they say Instagramand we have like no friends in
common, I'm like okay, thatmarketing plan from chat GPT
like really worked, becausethey're literally only finding
me through hashtags and SEO andkeyword search through Instagram
(36:11):
.
So I saw my business grow likeso much.
I wish I could, I wish I wouldhave taken like note of like how
many followers I had before Istarted with chat GBT, um, and
like the help that it hasprovided with content strategy,
um, because it has grown so much.
Um, I can't recommend thatenough using chat GPT into all
(36:35):
of your business planning andbeing very specific with it.
So, again, get that chat GPTguide and you will be like mind
blown.
Um, or you can just try outputting in different prompts,
but I like it to be like all inone place and then you can just
like copy and paste all youranswer stuff and keep it in
notion.
So, in notion, I have like atab that is saved.
(36:57):
That is my brand identity.
I have a tab that is saved thatis all about my client Mark, uh
, my ideal client, susie Andie, and then I have my like content
plan in there that I can referto.
Anything like that, that chatgbt that I want to keep in like
a safe place that I can refer to.
Better, I just put it in notionagain.
(37:19):
Okay, so after you arenetworking with local businesses
and building referrals, thennumber seven last but not least,
you want to make it easy forclients to book you.
If booking is confusing, peoplewon't do it.
So make sure that you have aclear link in your bio that
(37:40):
directly links to your bookingpage, constantly putting in your
stories.
Like there's a gym that Ifollow, and every time they put
that link straight in theirstories I'm like, okay, I should
just sign up.
Like it makes it so easy tosign up and it's like not
annoying to me to see like bookhere, book here, book here,
because it's so easy.
You know, like, if I want tobook here, then it's like, oh
(38:01):
awesome, I don't have to go outof stories, go to your page,
click the link in bio, blah, blah, blah.
It's like, okay, just book here.
And if you don't know how to dothat, um, when you go to your
stories and post I'm pretty sureeveryone knows, at least maybe
this, but just in case you don't, okay, so say I want to add to
my story.
(38:22):
You click the little post-itnote thing and then you click
link and then that's where youwant to copy and paste your
booking link because we want tohave that set up online so that
it's easy to book.
And then on your customizedsticker you can click like book
here, or let's work together.
Or like, book your amazingfamily photos, or let's freeze
(38:47):
time, or whatever.
Okay, so make it really easyfor people to book you.
I made guides in Canva that haslike my pricing guide for
family sessions.
I have it tiered so that thepeople that um only want to do
(39:07):
this price point can have that.
And then it's tiered to my likeum biggest package that has
like everything including theUSB and my client closet
included in it and that is laidout in a um Canva website form.
Um, you can also make it like aPDF and send it to people, but
(39:31):
making sure that people know howto book you, how much you cost,
what your session includes, andso to have a link in bio.
Now Instagram has a couple.
You can set a couple websitesinto your links so you can have
(39:51):
one that goes straight tobooking you.
You can have one that goes toyour your Canva link that shows
like your tiered package pricingstructure and gives them
information on what is includedin each session.
Or you can have like a link tolike your about me page on your
(40:12):
website that tells people likewho you are and like your brand
identity.
Or you can have it as a linktree thing if you have like way
more Like maybe I want it tolink specifically to newborn
sessions and then another linkfor family sessions and then
another link for my session.
(40:32):
Uh, info and pricing.
So three links in there.
If you want more, then you cango to link tree L, I, n, k, t, r
, dot E, e and sign up for afree link in bio where you can
put multiple links.
Um, this is what you did beforeInstagram or when Instagram
only allowed you one link, um,and then people can view, like
(40:57):
more things.
So maybe you have like a minisession coming up and maybe you
have like multiple mini sessionscoming up for different seasons
and you don't want all thoselinks in your bio.
You want it in another link inyour link tree.
Then you can add more linksthrough that.
But you just want to make itvery like, easy to book.
And then one last thing okay, well, actually like two more
(41:21):
bonus things.
Okay, making sure that yourInstagram bio also has SEO
keywords.
Again, I asked ChatGPT aboutthat Once I had my like brand
identity and my ideal targetmarket, I asked them to come up
with like the perfect Instagrambio, and so it had me put
(41:44):
Charlotte, newborn and familyphotographer so that people will
be able to find me with thosekeywords.
And again, using that locationkeyword.
And then another thing iseventually you can add in using
many chat.
Okay, so if it's overwhelmingwith sending people links and
(42:21):
sending people where to go andthings, you can have that
automated through a service uh,episode on mini chat.
But this is when you want tohave a little more hands off.
Um, again, like you don't want.
If you're like me and you getsidetracked with Instagram, it's
like you go on to postsomething and then all of a
sudden you're scrolling for thenext three hours and you're like
(42:43):
wait a second, I didn't evenlike do anything like for my
business.
So it's one thing to get on andhave interactions with your
clients Like sometimes they saythat it's best, before you post
something, to go and spend alittle bit of time liking
people's posts or commenting ontheir stories or sending like
emojis Just like engaging withyour clients for a little bit
(43:08):
before you actually postsomething.
So you can try that, but alsobe very mindful of not wasting
your time on Instagram.
Another thing is that you canto minimize the time that you're
spending on your phone is theautomated post.
You can do that.
I think you might can do thatspecifically through Instagram.
(43:30):
Now, if not, there was a acontent calendar called plan
planally.
I think there's like some more, but I had planally and, um, it
would auto schedule your poststo go out.
So even if you want to get onand you know something is going
to be scheduled, to post at like10 AM and say, say, I get on at
930 and I do like a little bitof engaging with my followers,
(43:55):
then I will go, can do that andthen I can get right back off
and get back to my day, not onInstagram.
So that is one thing to do.
Another thing that you can dois, um, have your responses done
through many chats.
And then another thing isFacebook.
(44:17):
If you still have clients thatwant to book you through
Facebook or that are on Facebookand maybe not on Instagram, um,
for me I I think this is morefor, like I don't know I I have
not gotten that many greatclients through Facebook because
, um, I feel like a lot ofpeople are budget shopping again
(44:41):
or like wanting the most forless um, through like the mom to
mom group stuff.
But occasionally I do have somereally great clients that come
in through that Um, and I lovewhen people refer me through
there.
I'm not that I'm not active onFacebook, um, so what I do is I
set up my Instagram toautomatically push things to
(45:03):
Facebook.
So I still have that audiencethere, especially like clients
that I've had for a long timethat are more, more, uh, engaged
on Facebook.
They can engage with my contentstill because it's being pushed
there, um, and I don't want tophysically like, get on Facebook
.
So that is another strategy tohelp maximize your marketing.
(45:28):
Let me see if there's anythingelse that I think would be
helpful.
Again, marketing is like abeast, so you can never learn
enough, do enough.
There's always new thingscoming out and if you don't
follow Adam Mossery whatever hisname Mossery on Instagram, he's
(45:50):
the one that comes up with likehe's the head of um Instagram,
something um, and he will get onand post about what, what
they're pushing throughInstagram like strategies to do
Um.
There's also lots of other likeum people that I follow that
(46:13):
are um, just social media, um,like content creator, help help
people.
I don't even know what it'scalled.
I listened to a bunch ofpodcasts that are all about this
Like.
Sometimes it's specificallyonly this Shannon McKinstry.
I like her podcast.
She's very like.
It's like 10 minutes long eachweek and she just gives me like
(46:35):
the highlights of what to do andwhat to strategize on, because
really everything can beoverwhelming when you listen to
it.
So again, going through thatlike simple step of coming up
with your weekly plan, like Imentioned in number four, your
simple marketing plan, maybestart there with like each day
(46:55):
of the week.
It's kind of like a cleaningschedule, like what are you
doing, like each week, so thatyou just know, print it out, put
it on a calendar, hang it onthe wall in front of you, put it
on your phone and then justknow that day that's what you're
posting.
To get more specific again, youcan go back to that chat GPT
guide that's going to give youthe 30-day content marketing
plan and that's going to giveyou specifics on shot list or
(47:19):
detail shots, wide shots, emotional shots, ones that are
for like maternity versusnewborn versus like heritage or
like generational stuff versusbehind the scenes, versus
personal posts, versus you know.
(47:40):
So there can be a variety andmaybe you want to post more than
one thing a day and then withyour analytics again you can go
back and see what is performingwell, how many new followers
were brought in, based on eveneach post, and then you'll get
feedback and you'll know, okay,my clients really like that or
this worked a lot.
(48:01):
And then you know just to domore of that.
So it's really fun just seeinglike I get like so excited, like
to put something out just tosee what it brings back in.
I guess it's kind of likefishing, like you're putting
something out, like throwingyour net out this side.
You've tried this and then likeyou see like what you caught,
(48:23):
and you know like, okay, shouldI stay on this side of the boat
or should I go to the other sideof the boat?
Should I go a little further?
Should I go in?
And then, um, at some point youstart booking all these clients
and then it's like now you canjust sit back and post like more
for fun, or it's not such aburden.
And also I want to mention thatlike sometimes you'll just feel
(48:44):
like you're keep putting thingsout and you're not getting
anything back and that couldjust be like slow season.
So maybe summer is slow, maybelike December is slow, maybe
January is slow.
There can be slow seasons.
And don't feel like the workthat you're putting in is not
going to be returned, becauseyou will definitely, definitely,
(49:07):
definitely see a return if youfollow these marketing tips and
it may not be right away, butall of a sudden you'll start
booking more and you'll be like,oh okay, this is actually
working.
But, like anything, just start.
And I hope this was helpful.
(49:29):
Again, I just want to recap ourseven things to get more
clients or to market yourphotography.
One focus on your nine grid onInstagram.
Two, hashtags and SEO, makingyour content really searchable.
Three, doing reels and posts.
Four, create simple marketingplans so that you don't get
(49:52):
overwhelmed.
Five start using Pinterest.
Six network with localbusinesses and building
referrals.
And seven making it easy forclients to book you.
All right, if you love that, please send me a message on
Instagram.
Again, look at those things inthe show notes that I mentioned
(50:13):
and I hope that you guys can goout and make better photos.
All right, see you guys nexttime.
