Speaker 1 (05:30):
Eh? Jealous Paraday?
Speaker 10 (05:32):
You should be, come to think of it, You've never
been able to get anything on me. Well, Mary Paraday

(05:52):
I guess I do owe.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Him something at that, So do I, Blackie. And for
the same reason.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Weren't you wondering why I was little late calling for you? Oh?
Speaker 12 (06:01):
At first I thought you we had trouble getting this cab,
But after all you were only an hour late.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
That's practically on time for you.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
You didn't really mind it you.
Speaker 12 (06:09):
I didn't for the door man, did I was outside
so long and made thirty five cents on tips opening
taxi doors.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
I'd want my cut, but I am too pleased with
the way you look now.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
I do not look any differently tonight.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Maybe it's that dress you're wearing. No, isn't it? No?
Speaker 12 (06:24):
Particularly I got it this afternoon. It's all five hours old.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Doesn't look at it? Age, doesn't well.
Speaker 14 (06:30):
It's just my side, so there isn't room for a wrinkle.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Tell me why you're wearing an evening gain Mary.
Speaker 12 (06:37):
Listen, my blackie and usual here this afternoon. You called
to say you were taking me to a very lovely
place tonight.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
It is now tonight. I am dressed appropriately for the
very lovely place.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Now the place isn't that lovely? Well?
Speaker 13 (06:50):
Thank you?
Speaker 12 (06:51):
You're being extra special sweet tonight, Darling. You wouldn't have
a reason, an extra special reason by any chance.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Oh, I'm marry. How can you even think.
Speaker 12 (07:02):
Such an Oh, that's all I wanted to know, all right,
out with it. The deal to drive uptown for dinner
is all.
Speaker 10 (07:08):
Uf huh Oh, i'd said it was well postponed, temporary,
you know.
Speaker 12 (07:14):
That's what I like about us, planned, subject to change
without notice.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Too bad, this dress.
Speaker 12 (07:19):
Isn't The dress is very attractive, Mary, Well, inasmuch as
it's becoming increasingly apparent that I am due for a disappointment,
you'll have to do better than that.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Try again, very well.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
The dress is.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Oh wit, isn't that good?
Speaker 1 (07:38):
On the contrary, what there is of it is terrific.
Speaker 12 (07:42):
Well, then you should have made the whistle shorter like this,
and now I hate to be inquisitive of where are
we going.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
To a place downtown known as the traveler.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Is bonn the Travelers Barn?
Speaker 1 (07:55):
What's that?
Speaker 10 (07:56):
Believe me, it's all to your credit that you don't know.
It's a combination plays, joint and dive.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
But I've got to go there tonight.
Speaker 12 (08:05):
Oh all right, darling, Only I won't say I'm not disappointed.
In fact, there's only one thing that could possibly make
this situation worse.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (08:14):
If you were going to the Traveler's Bond to meet
another girl?
Speaker 10 (08:17):
Funny you should mention that, Mary, That's exactly why I'm
going there to meet another girl.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
You know something, Blackie.
Speaker 12 (08:34):
If you didn't tell me, if I kept my eyes closed,
and if I couldn't smell anything, and if I couldn't
hear anything, I'd.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Swear we were at the cart instead of the Traveler's Bond.
Speaker 10 (08:46):
Mary, I think you're a snob. The Traveler's Bond has
only the finest red and white checkered table cloths.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
To that, I don't feel like playing checkers.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
I wouldn't want to play anything with the mob in hair.
Take a look, Well, tell.
Speaker 12 (09:00):
You the truth I'll be happy if they stop looking
at me. Darling, Must you stay here?
Speaker 11 (09:07):
Please?
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Gives me the creeps.
Speaker 10 (09:09):
We won't have to stay much longer. I pointed out
the girl I came to out of sea, didn't I.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Yeah, she's very attractive too, uh huh.
Speaker 10 (09:16):
And you'd see how young she was if she'd spray
some of that warp paint off her face. Anyhow, I
can't go over to see her until that character there leaves.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
I'll put a swammy on him right now, swammy whammy.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
How long do your whammys take before they work?
Speaker 12 (09:32):
That all depends on how much on the job my
private tevy is. Of course, right now, I think he's
probably out to dinner.
Speaker 13 (09:38):
Just my luck.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Well, at least you're feeling better, that's something I suppose.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
But hey, wait a minute. Suppose the young lady you
came down here to see you won't talk to it.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Have you ever known a girl of the wouldn't for
the sake of your conceit?
Speaker 13 (09:50):
No way?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
After that would you say you wanted.
Speaker 13 (09:53):
To do something for you?
Speaker 4 (09:54):
What if she won't?
Speaker 14 (09:56):
Have you ever known a girl who wouldn't pusn't company accepted?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Don't answer that, Hey, the woman's working.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
What do you know that man just got the girst table? Wonderful?
I hope your genie had a fine meal. You can
pack me when you talk to him again.
Speaker 14 (10:12):
Okay, well, now you go over there and show me
how good you are.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Right, excuse me, please, I'll excuse you.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
But if coming down here doesn't do you any good,
I'll never forgive you.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
I'll remember that. Hello, are you glad of hollom?
Speaker 13 (10:28):
Could be handsome?
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Mind? If I sit down?
Speaker 13 (10:32):
I don't, but Joe might only he doesn't happen to
be aroun right now?
Speaker 1 (10:38):
I imagine that's an invitation, and if it is, it's accepted. Thanks.
Speaker 13 (10:45):
Hey, haven't I seen you somewhere before?
Speaker 10 (10:48):
Now that's a purely masculine line, miss Solemn. You know
I beg your pardon, miss, But haven't I seen.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
You somewhere before? The Riviera perhaps? Or beer ritz? Or can?
Speaker 13 (10:58):
I have seen you somewhere? And I'm good you talk
to important? It could be just in case, well, just
in case I ever wanted to get.
Speaker 10 (11:08):
In touch with you. What about this jail fellow, the
one who might object to my sitting here with you
if he happened to be around.
Speaker 13 (11:17):
Right now he's still had man. Hi, you're not that
good handsome, not a fast You're not who are you?
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Boston Blackie?
Speaker 7 (11:27):
Both?
Speaker 13 (11:29):
So for your the Pamie, I should have remembered your fans.
I've hated it long enough.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
I've got to talk to you.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Sure, Sure, but I don't have to listen.
Speaker 13 (11:37):
You sent my old man to the pen, Blackie, beat
it now before you give this take a bad name? Well,
what's keeping you here?
Speaker 10 (11:44):
If you remember me, gladdys, you also remember that I
pretty nearly always do the things I set out to do.
Speaker 15 (11:50):
Sure, I remember that you set out to tell my
father to jail and you did.
Speaker 13 (11:55):
Well, what do you want from me? Congratulations?
Speaker 1 (11:58):
If I hadn't sent him a glandis i'one else? What? I?
Speaker 14 (12:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
What? Everything?
Speaker 13 (12:04):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (12:05):
You know I can handle myself.
Speaker 11 (12:06):
Okay, Well, I want to see in my office and
sending you yeah Joe right away.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Look, lass, I want to talk to you.
Speaker 13 (12:14):
Go ahead and make with a monologue.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
All right, Will you do something for me?
Speaker 13 (12:19):
Sure if it's kill you. If I sending my old
man to.
Speaker 10 (12:22):
Jail, look forget about your father for a minute. I
have to know your heading for jail, yourself if you
don't get out of this gang.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
You're money around me.
Speaker 13 (12:29):
I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
What I do, and I want to do something about.
Speaker 9 (12:34):
Us you do?
Speaker 13 (12:35):
Huh, what do you want to do? Send me to
jail too. I get lost you, and I guarantee you
no one will let it go looking for you.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Now back to Boston, Blackie.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
Mike Harlan, sent to jail by Blackie, makes a successful
prison break and head straight for Blackie's apartment. Inspector Faraday
gets a tip that Harlan is at Blackie's and gets
there just in time to find Harlan holding a gun
on Blackie. Harlan is returned to jail, and that night
Blackie takes Mary to a waterfront dive the Traveler's Barn
(13:28):
to see Gladys, Mike Harland's daughter has joined an underworld gang.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
He tries to get her to do something for him,
but she won't even speak to him.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
As we return to our story, Blackie is in Mary's
apartment trying to find a way to talk further, and
he escape Konvic's.
Speaker 12 (13:44):
Daughter, Blackie, what do you even bother thinking about Gladys
after the way she treated you?
Speaker 10 (13:50):
Because she's not half as tough as she pretends to be.
She's just in with a bad lot and thinks it's
smart to do the things they do.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Has she been with them long?
Speaker 1 (13:58):
No, that's why I've got stop her before it's too late.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yes, but look, darling, how do you even know she's mixed.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Up with a gang? Isn't it obvious? Oh?
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Yeah, I suppose it is, so you better tell me
not now.
Speaker 10 (14:11):
But I have to know that Joe character and his
gang or not to pull something soon. If I only
knew what it was and where?
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Why don't you call Gladys up and ask her?
Speaker 1 (14:23):
It's a good idea.
Speaker 10 (14:24):
Hey, wait a minute, what are we laughing at? That's
a good idea. Get the phone book, look up Gladys home.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Oh well all right, but I don't get it. How
are you gonna get it?
Speaker 1 (14:34):
To talk to you like this? Hey's everything? Okay?
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Here donating now?
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Joe the owner of the barn, and obviously also Gladys
is boss. Oh here it is.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Oh, I see what you're going to do.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Let's just hope she's home and this works.
Speaker 12 (14:49):
Got a number mm hmmm, aja, one, two, one, three, eight,
and kind of forget it.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Immediately after you die too.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Now I wonder why you said that.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
A blackie, that Joe person has a little blessed dash.
Why don't you wear a mustache?
Speaker 1 (15:03):
And you took to it? Aren't you a big hel?
What's what's mean?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Here goes my fingers across?
Speaker 1 (15:09):
You're really on my side? Cross my heart? Your finger's
on your heart. Kind of a double cross, isn't it?
Speaker 7 (15:16):
Hello?
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Hey, doll, is there everything? Okay?
Speaker 5 (15:20):
Oh it's you Joe?
Speaker 7 (15:22):

Speaker 13 (15:29):
Why sure Joe?
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Hey, I'm glad you're sure, but I ain't see and
nervous about you.
Speaker 15 (15:36):

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Well, all I can say is if you were one,
you'd be a good actor.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Thanks pal.
Speaker 10 (16:37):
Now I've got to make some plans to interfere with
the plans of a gang of bad actors tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
It's a dirty Joe. What times do you arm a truck?
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Split them along right about now, Tony, just keep your
shirt on. It'll be long on schedule. The voice spread

I can't wait to count this stuff.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
Your job, we did it?
Speaker 6 (18:29):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (18:29):
It was a sense, sure, was not it?
Speaker 10 (18:31):
You don't ride on my brush?
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Job, Joe?
Speaker 7 (18:33):
You were great, dog great, Hey, Joe, we'll get a
road ahead of us.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
It's barricaded.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
The place is full of.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Cop cots, one hundred of them.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Joe, what do we do for the barricade?
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Turn back? We'll be it the other way.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
We can't force out barricade and I pushed up by
my truck is blocking the road behind us.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Huh, you're right, Joe.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
What are we gonna do?
Speaker 1 (18:49):
There ain't nothing we can do. Slow down and stop.
We're giving ourselves up. I want to live a little
while longer, even if it is in jail.
Speaker 7 (19:09):
Alright, all right, quiet, everybody, quiet, all this is a
police line up, not affordable show, but I want quiet.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
You're ready with the business inspected parody?
Speaker 1 (19:18):
All right, start with the first one, Joe Day.
Speaker 8 (19:21):
Idiots, Joe Laine, idious, Buddy Peterson, Ilias.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
Laine Peterson, Nina Reds, no convictions wanted for robbery, murder,
the garden that I'm a truck was killed?
Speaker 1 (19:31):
All right?
Speaker 7 (19:32):
Oday?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
What have you got to save yourself? I talking parody?
You will Plater?
Speaker 7 (19:38):
Okay, step down oday, Let's have the next one.
Speaker 9 (19:42):
Man.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
It's Harlan, no Idias, it's no rats.
Speaker 6 (19:44):
No convictions wanted for robberying, murdered.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
All right, miss Harlan?
Speaker 7 (19:48):
What have you got to save yourself?
Speaker 13 (19:51):
I don't have anything to say.
Speaker 7 (19:52):
You know you're gonna face a murder chance for what
you've done, don't you. I know it, but you can't
prove it by I mean, I can't prove it.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Your guilt me and you know it. Now.
Speaker 7 (20:01):
Why don't you play it smart and admitted? Why should
because I'll prove it anyhow. I'll go easy on you
if you talk, all right, I admit it?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
What do you admit?
Speaker 13 (20:11):
I admit everything.
Speaker 15 (20:12):
I drove the car for the gang, but I didn't
know anyone was gonna be killed.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Honestly that it doesn't make any difference. A guard in
that armored truck was killed. And if you drove the
car for this gang, you're just as gilly as if
you kill that guy.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
With your own hands.
Speaker 15 (20:24):
No, I didn't like it.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
Okay, come here, miss Hannn, I want you in my office.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Ronins, bring her over here with him?
Speaker 1 (20:33):
He is, thanks, Ronins.
Speaker 7 (20:35):
I'll take her in my office.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
You take over here, sure, inspect her? What are you
gonna do with me? Plenty? All right? Go on, go on,
get in there? What place is this? What happens to me? Now?
Speaker 7 (20:49):
Maybe a lot is going to happen to you, miss Hanlen.
That depends mostly on you. What do you mean you'll
find out? I said, sit down? All right, that's better.
Why you are in sort of a jam, aren't you? Yes?
Speaker 13 (21:06):
As I guess I am.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
What do you mean you guess you are?
Speaker 13 (21:09):
I mean, I know I am. But I didn't know
it was going to be like this at all. I
thought it'd be smart to join Joe's game.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
I thought it'd be clever, but I know it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Now, Oh you do?
Speaker 9 (21:20):
Eh?
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (21:21):
And I should have known him before.
Speaker 13 (21:23):
I should have learned a lesson from what happened to
my father.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
That's right, look at him. He's in jail then, why?
Speaker 13 (21:30):
Because he was smart and thought he could.
Speaker 9 (21:32):
Get away with it, well, he didn't get away with it.
Speaker 13 (21:36):
I didn't either, I know it now.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
But a little too late.
Speaker 9 (21:39):
Huh yeah, a little too late, inspector. I guess I've
got worse coming to him than came to my father.
Oh if I can only go back twenty four hours
and know what I know now, I wouldn't be.
Speaker 10 (21:53):
In this mess.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
No, you wouldn't.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
And as a matter of Factness halland thanks to one man,
they weren't in a mess.
Speaker 13 (22:02):
Not in a mess.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
What you're in that buzzer for?
Speaker 10 (22:04):
I'll answer that last question, glatdye it rang for me, lucky, Yes,
Boss and Blackie.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
But you see mormost glad to see me.
Speaker 14 (22:13):
Oh I am lucky.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
I'm afraid it's too late.
Speaker 10 (22:17):
Oh I don't think so, gladys. I heard the inspector
say you aren't in a mess, but I am.
Speaker 13 (22:22):
I was mixed up in that robbery and the guard
was killed.
Speaker 10 (22:25):
You weren't mixed up in anything, Lattice, and a guard
wasn't killed. In fact, there were no guards in that
armored truck. The driver set the wheel and jumped fifty
yards before the barricade.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
That they were no, Miss Hamon, and you and your
pals didn't steal anything either. That armored truck was empty empty, yes,
but your palace store was bags of slugs and a
box filled with dirty.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
But all very simple, gladys. After you told me all
about your part and hold up.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
I told you about my pardon.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Yes.
Speaker 10 (22:58):
When I called and asked you to run through the instructions,
you thought I was Joe when I said, hey, down,
I want you to run through the instruction.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
See, it was you. Yes.
Speaker 10 (23:10):
And after that I went to the armored truck company
told him what I was. Oh, what was going to
happen in Faraday? And I framed this whole thing together.
Speaker 13 (23:18):
Then Joe and the gang haven't been arrested either.
Speaker 7 (23:20):
Oh yes, ms Fall and they're under arrest. I've been
looking for him in that gang for a long time
for other things. They're going to jail. Where am I
going out of here?
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Grandness? Straight out of here?
Speaker 14 (23:32):
If you know what I mean, Lanky, Why did you
want to help Grandis Harlem?
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Well?
Speaker 10 (23:47):
Mary, remember when I told you that Faraday caught my
call him her father and my apartment with a gun
on me. M Well, he wasn't pointing that gun at
me to kill me, but so that when Faraday broke in,
I wouldn't be accused of harboring an escape convent.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
He wasn't gonna kill you. Well, then what was he
doing in your apartment?
Speaker 10 (24:05):
Well, he hang through the prison grapevine that his daughter
was getting mixed up with a gang.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Oh, and he wanted to keep her from joining.
Speaker 10 (24:11):
Yes, he even had to come up to prison to
see him that she wouldn't listen to him.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
See you'd think she would have, though, wouldn't you.
Speaker 14 (24:17):
Her father was in jail because he was caught by
the police.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yes, but she told him she was too smart to
be caught. That's when he decided to come to see me.
Speaker 14 (24:25):
Oh, and I know why he didn't go to the police,
because all they do was send her to prison.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Yes, and he didn't want that, so he broke jail
and came to see me, hoping that I could do
something with her.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Well that covers everything I did.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
And so does that lovely evening wrap you're wearing.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
I thank you, sir.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
You sure be an attraction tonight.
Speaker 14 (24:45):
Think so.
Speaker 13 (24:47):
Look what I'm wearing underneath.
Speaker 1 (24:49):

you think you're on your way.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
