(00:00):
Alright, hello. We're back here at Breaking Bread in Napa. We're actually going to take
(00:25):
a really good look at the Syrah grape today. We have three different vintages of a Pride
Sera. We've got a 2022, a 2019, and a 2007, which my guests today, which I'm so excited
to talk about today, are going to help review the three different wines. And we're just
(00:46):
going to give you some pointers. But what I want to do is this particular winery. I'm
starting, this is the beginning of a three-part series that we're really going to be focusing
on family-owned vineyards. And I'm so excited. We were, on Friday, we were at Spring Mountain,
right at the top, at the Pride winery. I'll let my guests here talk about some of their
(01:08):
impressions of the winery. If you haven't been up there, it's so worth the trip to go
up there. And the wines, they're not overly marketed. And actually, most of the wines,
you can't even get anywhere. So it's a really special winery, but I do want my guests to
talk about the experience there. We were in the caves, we were on a cave tour. It was
really amazing. And I can't say enough about a shout-out to Krista. Krista took such good
(01:32):
care of us. Oh my God, on the tour, she was fun. She was very informative. She put up
with me asking all these different questions about production sizes. It was amazing. So
what I want to do is I want to have my guests introduce themselves. Hi, I'm Tamara Holmes
from Chicago, actually Glenview, Illinois. I'm in marketing. I'm a mother of six, married
(01:57):
to a lovely human and in Napa for a girls weekend. So thanks for having me. Fabulous.
We are so excited that you could make it. And here is one of my oldest, dearest, lovely
friends, Josephine Wong. Hi, I'm Josephine Wong. I had a customer experience at H2O.ai
with doing AI before anyone knew about AI Boo. Oh yeah. Which you know what? Tonight,
(02:20):
we're going to talk about these sorrows and pride. They always take care of us there.
It's an amazing family vineyard. All right. So what we want to do now is let's start with
the 2022 impressions. Did you like it? What were your thoughts on the 2022? I thought
it was like super amazing and like light and juicy and bright. I mean, but also like interesting.
(02:47):
Tamara, how about you? What were your thoughts on the 2022? I was actually really surprised.
I didn't think I was going to like it because it's so fresh, so new, but I thought it already
had a lot of depth. I thought it had a lot of character and I liked how fruit forward
it was. I could totally relate. I love a big fruit forward and this wine totally delivers
(03:08):
on that. But yet it's very balanced. It doesn't really, it's not a super long finish. It's
not dry. It's actually quite juicy all the way through to the end. But I really loved
it. And now we took the 2019, which I was thinking that I was going to be in love with
the 2019, which is why I wanted to try it because that particular vineyard, how about
(03:29):
it Josephine? The 2019s all over the valley are just really rocking it. I mean, it's one
of our favorite. Can't go wrong with the 2019. Absolutely not. Any wine out there, there's
a choice, go for it. But anyway, so my, it's, it's big. The 2019 is a lot more big. I think
it was a little bit more bolder for me. And I kind of like a more balanced, you know,
(03:52):
straight from the start, you know, to the nose, to the first touch on the palate all
the way to the end. But this one really, really gave a little bit of a punch. So if you look,
if you would like a little bit more heavy body, to me, it was a little bit more heavy
body than of course, you know, the younger one. But I, I right now I really like the
(04:13):
22 over the 19. Oh, Tamera, how about you? What do you think with the 2019 and then where
are you leaning? Yeah, I don't, I don't particularly agree with that. Like I loved the 2022 until
I had the 2019. And I was like, Oh, okay, we're like a step forward. I really like the progression
of it. I was right. I was ready for that ride. And I was just like, man, and in fact, we're
(04:37):
going to revisit that. I'm revisiting right now. Again, JoJo, what about your impressions?
Are you leaning 19 or 2022? This, I want to still taste the 07 that we had a little time
with the quirk. Okay. And now I think we should taste it. Maybe take a break and like reassess.
(04:57):
Okay. I always have an older vintage. I think you're really right. Okay. And before we take
a break to, to taste this older wine here, can you give a few impressions of the vine,
the winery itself? So what do you like about the winery? What's some of your favorite attributes
of the winery? So it's on the top of spring mountain, which is amazing. And it's the only
(05:21):
place in all of the whole Napa Valley. I think that you can stand between Napa and Sonoma.
And it's amazing. And everyone that works there is like diamonds. You have an amazing
experience and they have the most amazing room. It's called the summit room, but, but
(05:42):
that's my booze. Yeah. Wait for that.
No, you're going to have one foot in Sonoma and one foot in Napa and you can take a picture
standing there. There's a beautiful art. So like, it was just picture perfect, really
gorgeous. And we just love that. That felt really cool to be in two counties at one time
drinking. You can have a Sonoma fruit wine and you can have a Napa fruit wine and we
(06:05):
just loved that option. Totally. In fact, the Sarawze that we're tasting is, is on the
Sonoma side. So we're actually having Sonoma wine here. So pretty awesome. So we're going
to take a break listeners out there. We're going to taste this 2007 and we'll be right
back to you to review and give our final thoughts on these three amazing wines.
(06:27):
Hello. We're back here. We just each had a little bit of the 2007 Pride Saraw. And so
what we're going to do is just give our impressions of it. We typically like, I typically like
older wines, but I have to say that this just did not do it for me at all. And out of the
(06:50):
three, I'm going back to the 2022. What about you, Joseph?
I'm in total agreement and I'm very surprised that maybe, but we should learn not to keep
(07:13):
Sarawze that old, I feel like. Perhaps it could be.
It was 2007 and it, I was expecting more for, I thought it was like a cab because I'm a
cab girl, but I do feel like I was 19 though, the 19.
All right. All right. So 19 is your pick. Camera.
Yeah. It's lovely. I think that it has a lot of depth. Like it's big, right? I feel like
(07:39):
we need to stake with this.
Exactly.
Right. Cause it's alone. I think it's just too much.
100% more food, more something with a food, with a steak, a big steak. I agree with you.
And we just opened this up like an hour, an hour and a half ago. So we'll, we'll, we'll
mind it for the next couple hours and see if we get any particular notes on that. So
(08:03):
anything, how about last impressions about that lovely experience that we had just of
the winery all good?
Yeah. I think absolutely the top of Spring Mountain, Spring Mountain with pride is amazing
and people should go and the, the people that work there are like salt of the earth diamonds.
Yeah. Very well spoke.
(08:24):
I have two things. One is we were told not to take an Uber. So when you go there, either
take a private car or drive your own car or your own private car or get a driver. Because
if you get up there, you can't get an Uber back pro move right there. And the second
is if you're going up there, you know, give yourself enough time because the roads are
(08:45):
really windy, but when you get up, it's really magical. It's a great spot.
It's breathtaking. Absolutely breathtaking with the whole, the wines are amazing. And,
and again, it's, these are not like really heavy price. This is a very moderate price
wine that really drinks like some of the top wines in the Valley, I have to say. So please
(09:06):
support our family wineries. So when you come up here to Napa, just at least, I know there's
so many amazing wineries here and your favorites, but we have to support our local family owned
wineries. Thanks so much.
