Speaker 1 (00:00):
Until now, you know.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
And Darryl Tapp of course was my assistant Dlon coach
UH in San Francisco, so you know, it was it
was pretty much an easy decision for me, you know,
just the belief that they have in me.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Thank you, Nikki.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
How much do you know about sort of the transformation
of the Commanders and what do.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
You hope to add to that defense?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Well, well, I grew up in Northeast DC, so I'm
a real skin fan, point blank period. And I was
just telling somebody when I was growing up, Trent Williams
was on the team and Jordan Reed and then I
got to be teammates with them, guys my rookie year.
For me to be able to be on this team
now is a full circle moment for me. And I
(00:48):
know a lot about the transformation. Man, it was in
the blink of an eye. It's like you go from
zero to hero, you know what I mean. And that's
for all of That's all I'm about, you know, that's
kind of my life. And I can't wait to thrive
with these guys.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I feel so blessed and I'm so happy to be here.
Shoot my whole family here.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
So I was gonna say, how.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Much does it mean to you to be with the
TV you grew up watching.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
And for I brought my whole family here.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
There's somewhere right now, but definitely I'm I'm blessed and
highly favored to be here. Went through hell and hot
order to get here, and I'm glad that I'm here.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Sam.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
What are the spots like when you were growing up
in DC that you go to or what are you
most interested in about re engaging with the community.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
I don't I haven't really been back to where I
grew up at. But I'm just looking to be around, man,
just looking to give back to certain communities that I
grew up in, done certain things in. But I don't
really be around too much because I mean, it's like
one of them things you know.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
You know, But.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
And what do you bring on the field, you know,
how are you hoping to fit into this luck?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I'm looking to be I'm looking to be a natural
born leader. I'm looking to bring a style and the
physicality to the d line.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
I'm looking to show my personality things that I had
to endure growing up. You're gonna see it on the field.
That's point blank, period.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Ben, all right, we'll move on a check.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Thanks and welcome back to Washington. The outside looking in
at this franchise. What did you see last year? Did
you see the progression? Were they at the top of
the league. Is that part of the reason that you
wanted to reunite with Adam Peters.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I saw a team that played for each other, point
blank period. When you watch that film, and I'm not
talking about first second down when you're trying to drive
the ball, I'm talking about field goal block. I'm talking
about field goal I'm talking about special teams. You know that,
that's what you see what your team is made of.
And when you look at that thing and how hard
(03:04):
guys is playing, even on you know, some areas where
people not even paying attention to that, that's what you
want to see. Man, these guys are playing hard over here.
And that's what I'm about. And I can't wait, Like
I said, I can't wait to thrive with these guys.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
I don't know if you've had a conversation with Joe
with Junior yet, but if you have, can you share
with us your impressions, your initial impressions.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Not yet, but I'm not yet, but I'm looking forward
to it.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Thank you, even all Drage twentieth and Perrie in Northeast.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Where did you if you know, you know, I grew
up on Fourth Street, Northeast, down there on roads.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
You know we're real present all you know.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Yes, sir, yes, sir, Hey, Look.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
How much did people how much were people aware this
past season of the change in DC? Was it something
that y'all you watch a game and you go, damn,
they look like they're really together?
Speaker 1 (04:03):
For sure?
Speaker 2 (04:04):
For sure, talk of the town, you know, everybody talking
about the commanders, you know, and shoot, man, I'm just
happy to be here. It ain't even about the wins
the losses. It's about the belief and these people they
believe in me over here, Bro, They believe in me.
You know, they see they see the progression every year.
I'm looking to get better. Every year I've gotten better
(04:24):
and I'm gonna I'm gonna continue to get better. And
I'm just happy that it's here that I get the
showcase out.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Welcome back to Tima man, Yes, sir.
Speaker 6 (04:33):
David Harrison, Hey, Gelon, congratulations and welcome back.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I know you've been doing a lot in your career, man,
And how how key was it for you to be
able to be as available as you were last season?
Speaker 6 (04:46):
Bro?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
It was.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
It was amazing, BRO, because I put the work in.
You know, nobody put that work in for me. I
put the work in every day, day in, day out,
and last year I'm gonna keep it real like I didn't.
I didn't touch the training room once, not not because
I was trying not to, but because I didn't have to.
You know, I put in a lot of work inside
the building, outside of the building to keep myself prepared
(05:10):
because of what I've been through with this game of football.
It's like it's traumatizing, bro. So I never want to
have to go through those things again. So I'm willing
to put the extra in. You know, I'm willing to.
And I know you made some changes to your body
and your diet before last season.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
How is that going and are you continuing to progress
with that? I felt I felt a little too heavy
last year.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
I got I got super big, like like a lot
of muscle mass, but I felt like a little too heavy,
like a little less explosive. I felt good on the
double teams, though I didn't give up no ground on
no double teams.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Less year. I was.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I was heavy, for sure, but I got to get
that explosion back and I got to be able to
run all around the field like I know how to.
So I'm looking to kind of cut back on the
weights a little bit more and pick up the cardio
more this offseason so I can just so I could
just play like more explosive football.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Are you not?
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Did Javon?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Welcome to Washington. Glad to have you on board. Reading
up on you, it looks like you had went through
some challenging times growing up in d C. How did
that maybe shape you as a person, as an athlete
as you are today?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Because I've been through worse. You know, God blessed me
with the ability to play this game and I use
it to my advantage. But some of the things that
I've been through in life, that's what's carried me, you know,
through these through these trials and tribulations, with the injuries
and stuff like that. That's why I was able to
get through so many things and just keep grinding and
(06:41):
stay focused because I know I've been through worse. And yeah,
as simple as that.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
And you and Deebo can't get away from each other.
In South Carolina, San Francisco. What's up with that Deebo
bring to this franchise?
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Boy, shout out this line. That's my guy. But shoot, man,
you know, Deebo super explosive. I've been seeing this all
you know what I mean, I've been seeing this for
a long time, a long time, and uh, he's gonna
do his thing for Shore and I can't wait to
see it. And I'm glad that I could be a
part of it while he here.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
You know, ap.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Java, congratulations, man, I'm just curious specifically kind of what
it meant for you for Ap and Tap to want
you back.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
It speaks for itself. It speaks for yourself.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Not clearly, I've been doing something right in their eyes,
I've been doing something right.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
So yeah, it speaks for yourself.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
When thanks man, We'll rap with Candy and then Donna.
Speaker 8 (07:50):
Hid Javan welcome home and now says da did it.
I'm a PG County girl from Buie, you know, but yes,
welcome home again. You mentioned about the Washington commanders being
the talk of the town, so kind of can you
share a big what's the word on the street about
(08:10):
the Washington commander?
Speaker 2 (08:12):
I mean, I mean, where can I start, like, like
like I keep saying, like everybody like man, they play hard,
super physical, They're gonna give you their best They're gonna
give their best shot no matter who it is. And
that's really it though, Like you're gonna have to strip
it up when you play against the Commanders, man, And
I love I love being on that type of team
(08:35):
where they where you know, you got to come to play,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Thank you, thank you, thank Yvon.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Welcome to the Commanders.
Speaker 8 (08:46):
What would you want your new teammates to know about
you as a person and as a player.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I mean, as a person, I'm a cool dude, you know,
keep my shades on, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I'm a cool dude. I ain't you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I ain't coming in here to be bigger than nobody
or smaller than nobody. I'm just coming in here to
fit in while get in while I fit in. And
I can't wait to meet some of these guys and
let them know that I'm here and I'm with them,
and that's the main thing, you know. And uh, as
a player, man, I bring a lot of passion, a
lot of energy. I play super hard, super aggressive and
(09:24):
uh yeah, Like but I'm just looking to be I
can't wait to get in with these guys, and I'm
just looking to be a great teammate.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Thanks a lot, Welcome to Washington again.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
