Speaker 1 (00:00):
Charlotte, but maybe we'd get caught up on some of
the injuries.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Last night.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
There was a lot to discuss. So I'll give you
the updates that I have and then we'll get.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Into some more tomorrow. So start with Marcus.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
He had stitches on his right hand and he's also
dealing with a quad injury. So week sixteen, every team's
dealing with stuff, but for guys like Marcus's fighting hard
with how much he means to us as a leader,
and so we're certainly disappointed for him. We'll see really
day to day as it's going to go. I'll give
you updates through the week of where he's at.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Larry M.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Tunzell worked with the trainers today. We'll see as it
gets closer to the game for him tomorrow will be
more like in a you know, jogging through pace. Brandon
Coleman with the shin, we're hopeful that this can turn
quickly and then he'd be available for the game. Sam
Cosmy is in the concussion protocol and Johnny Newton has
(00:56):
cleared concussion protocol and Jalen Lane with his ankle, it
would be tough for this Thursday, and so we'll see
what it looks like, but it would be a tough
matchup for this week.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
So I wanted to.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Give you all that I had regarding the injuries and
glad to get started with you guys in the game
and recap for that.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Con uh.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
With with Marcus, first of all, how many stitches? What
happened with the hand and how did he hurt it?
And then is there a realistic shot for Thursday?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Then with him, I don't know the amount of stitches. John.
The quad in the hand happened on the same play.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
It was a cleat that got to his hand on
the top, but I don't know yet swollen.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
So I'd say, we're gonna, you know, call it.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Day to day right now of where it's at, both
with the hand and with the quad, and so let's see,
you know what tomorrow is. In the following day, then
I'd say, by you know, two days from now, we'll
have a very good estimate of where he's at.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
And then going back to that fight, you said you
want to look into it more and see what you fouled.
First of all, what did you find? What did you learn?
And then second what's the life for you between losing
your cool and sticking up for a teammate.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, goot, great questions.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I reviewed all the footage that I had, and I
didn't see a lot. I think what I can say
is that I'm disappointed it came to punches. Neither team
wants that our games emotions filled, but you don't want
to be emotional, so it shouldn't happen. Both teams were
definitely in the wrong for that. You know, you play good, hard, tough,
(02:32):
physical games, but that's what we want both sides, and
so you don't want it to go past that. But
I didn't find a lot. The broadcast didn't get extended
on that, John, So I was hoping to give you
some more insights. But I looked through all the angles
that I had, and I just honestly didn't get a
lot to you know, go from on that. But I
just what I do know is like neither team wants that,
(02:52):
and it shouldn't happen. And when it gets to punches
on both sides, it's it's not what we want either side.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Nicky, I didn't going back to the Marcus. If if
you guys could have sense that he's unable to go,
what would you do at quarterback? Would you elevate Sam,
bring somebody else in. Would you consider even playing Jayden?
Speaker 2 (03:11):
We would not consider playing Jayden.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
So the first two options are the ones you were
leading into or Josh and Sam. Would we consider somebody
else coming in if he's not able to Yeah, all
those are on the table. That's something that Ad and
I are discussing tonight and we did today.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
But yeah, option A and B as you had said,
but not see.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
And just like the mistackles, I know that's been something
that's been going on for much of the season. Just
from a coaching standpoint, What can you do about that? Is,
you know, how do you work?
Speaker 1 (03:47):
And I felt like more of them were, honestly towards
the end, which I was disappointed about, Like that's when
it comes time to go finish and win it. And
there was a lot you know that I liked and
like give credits also to take one into others, but.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Like, rely on your.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Technique in those spaces, you know, on your leverage, get
down to the legs and finished on the tackle. And
so we drilled that hard, Nikki, We're going to continue
to do that. But yeah, I thought it felt like
at the end there were more you know, the longer
that it went, and so I want to make sure.
Man Like the first half, there's a lot that I liked,
(04:21):
and I thought, you know, towards the end of the
third quarter and end of the fourth, I just felt
like it had to stay tight and make sure you
can stay in the fight, and that's where I really
felt like the game shifted.
Speaker 6 (04:31):
Tom yey Dan, this was kind of a small moment
in the game, but you challenged a call that had
already been looked at by replay assists, and I'm just
curious what you've made this season of that replay assists
mechanism and kind of what went into that decision for
you specifically.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Yep, I'll start from the second part. First time, the
from the spot that we were, we thought there's a
good shot here that the shin and the knee and
hit before, so we thought this was worth a shot.
There's been times you know, goes back to New York
and gets you know, over the replay assist thought there'd
be plenty of angles that you know, we're worthwhile to
(05:11):
look at, So that was the reason behind it. We
just thought the knee and the shin weren't down and
it was worth the shot to go take it right there.
These guys have played really well in the red zone Tom,
especially down low with you know, the big guys they have,
so we thought it's worth a shot and that's why
we did it.
Speaker 7 (05:30):
Natalie, Hey, coach, I want to look ahead to next week,
just the fact that is Christmas Day. How do you
feel about playing on Christmas? Is this something you and
the guys kind of had circled on the calendar to
look forward to, or how do you kind of approach
this next game?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah, I'm glad that you brought up now that I
think it's honestly definitely something that we circled and we thought, man,
what a cool opportunity, you know, for us, and then
also to have it at home, that's a big deal.
And so yeah, this is definitely one Division game on Christmas, Like,
you know, pretty cool environment. So if you can get
some snow mixed into there, all that would be good
with us.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Howard Dan, just to kind of follow up on that,
how does the fact that both teams are out of
playoff contention change the sort of framing and dynamics of
a game like this that, as you say, would have
been highly anticipated. Probably like players coaches, fans.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, I could agree with more time that. I mean,
howardscuse me.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
The part of that when you do circle those matchups,
that's exactly what you're thinking, man, Like, this is gonna
be cool. How it's all laid out division games right
here at the end between you know, two games of
Philadelphia with a Dallas game in between.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Like, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
And so what I can say is that playing these
division games and they still mean a lot. They mean
a lot to the players, the coaches, and the fans,
and so that part is still good, but not to
the to the level that you wanted it to be.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Howard. I think that's that's really accurate.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
And in terms of some of these injuries that you mentioned,
you said, clearly Jayden is not an option to come back,
But how much does the how much of a factor
is where things are in this season get factored into
(07:25):
who might be pushed to come back versus who you
might say, Okay, that's okay, set this one out.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah, I think we've done all the push that we
can to keep them going, and so we're in a
good space to find out who's available first.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Howard.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
That's a number one to say who can get into
that spot and do their thing. Like I said, we'll
have to wait and see on cosm is in the protocol.
So I think it's more who's available at this spot.
It's a short week and so at this point we're
tonight really digging in hard to say who we're going
to feature, how we'll play them into the game plan
(08:03):
because we start again with the guys uh in the morning.
As far as the game plan landed out for Dallas,
So we were trying at this point feature not who's
not there, but you know, how are we going to
go feature the ones that are available and ready to roll?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Thank you, you're welcome.
Speaker 8 (08:18):
JP.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Do you have one?
Speaker 6 (08:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (08:22):
Thanks Charlie. Hey, I'm just curious. Yes, in the second
half for some punts on fourth and four, fourth and six,
what was the consideration on punting were going for in
those situations?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:34):
I think the first one JP, it was a little
later on in the you know, maybe nine minutes and
some change. I don't have the information right in front
of who I can think back, and it was into
that spot with three timeouts. I thought, at that spot,
let's punt, see if we can get a stop, which
the defense did get a punt, and that would you know,
give us a field position shot to go. Obviously, if
(08:57):
Marcus had still been in on the second one, I
think that would have been more consideration to go. Looking back,
I kind of thought, Okay, still have the timeouts, can
still work into that space with the time to do it.
Obviously we didn't get to stop. They had the long run,
and so that was really the reason behind it.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
JP.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
The first one I thought too early, and the second
one I think I could have flipped the coin to say, Okay,
there's a better chance for us to go here than
not knowing that they're also.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Hard to stop.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
We got a good one that the series before, so
that'd been the one. If you know, if I had
another chance at it, i'd probably go the other way.
The second fourth down.
Speaker 8 (09:37):
I'm curious, how hard is it to consider a short
week coming when you're in the moment making those decisions
or is it a consideration at all?
Speaker 1 (09:50):
You kind of broke up on the first part. Would
you mind repeating that, JP, we didn't hear.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
The first part.
Speaker 8 (09:54):
Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm curious, like, how hard is it
to consider we also have a short week coming here
when you're making those kind of fourth down decisions, Like.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
In the moment, it's not as hard going into it
in the moment. It's harder sometimes when there's some changes
in personnel, you know, like quarterback, changing that part is
probably more difficult than the other. We may have featured
some calls with Marcus into this spot to go, so
you study the opponents into those times on fourth downs.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
You know, what has it.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Been, where are you at, what would our call be,
And so we get a chance to practice those ones
into that spot. So oftentimes there could be some times
in a game, hey, if we get to this distance,
we're going to go, Well that you might have got
a first down on the third or it wasn't quite
long enough to go. And I'm certain that was the
case on that fourth down. Hey, if we get to three,
(10:44):
we're going to go. We thought we had a good
play for that. I think we might even lost yards
on a previous play if I'm not mistaken JP. So
it was really based on this distance. We know we
got a good play to go execute it into that spot,
and when it's not into that one, you have to
quickly make a decision. Sometimes it work, and sometimes you
know goes the other way, but you do try to
(11:04):
do a lot of it during the week and then
when you get to that space, Hey, this is what
we're expecting.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
This is how we'll go after it. Thank you, Welcome
to Sean.
Speaker 9 (11:14):
You got one.
Speaker 10 (11:16):
Yeah, Dan, I know you said you were considering, you know,
adding the outside option at quarterback. Obviously it's a really
short week before playing on Christmas. How difficult would it
be for somebody to get up to speed in time
to play in that game if.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
You got to sign them.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
I think it'd be difficult at any spot. But I
think we're looking, you know, like let's see where Marcus is.
Where we're looking for the next two games too, to Sean.
So that was really, you know, kind of our thought
behind the discussions of where we are.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
I would say difficult, not.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Impossible, but definitely difficult. I think we just saw somebody
do it last week or two weeks ago, pretty quickly.
Not on our team, but I did see it happen.
I was pretty impressed by it.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
We good time for more Les go bet and then Candy.
Speaker 10 (12:06):
Hey, Dan, what did you make up the way the
referees were officiating the toush push yesterday?
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Well, I gotta say we were expecting the play. It's
funny we talked about you know, off sides or alignments
and those kind of things as it pertains to the
offense bend.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
So I was pleased to see them.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Call the the false start. I think it's a really
hard play for them to officiate from where they're standing.
It almost seems like on the toush push they may
have to adjust where they stand and aligne there sometimes
seem like they're so far away for a play that
everybody's in close. So maybe that's in consideration for it.
(12:46):
But I was, you know, like, it was good to
see that it was called on that one because it's
a difficult play to defend and it's difficult play to officiate.
But it was good to see us get the stop
on the first one, and then on the second one
they had jumped off sides. But it was one that
we would put some work in on, for sure.
Speaker 9 (13:05):
Hey, coach, I think the last so I guess, including yesterday,
I guess the last. Now three times you played the Eagles,
it's gotten a little intents and then yesterday it just
boiled over. Yes, for lack of a better word, on
the intents. Is there a moment where you consider with
another you know they're playing them again in just a
(13:25):
couple of weeks where you get on the phone with
Nick Siriani or just have a conversation like, hey, you know,
how are we going to settle settle this down or
is it kind of like, look, this is just football
and then you just play and go for it and
whatever happens happens.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, definitely not the second one of whatever happens happens, like,
that's not what we want or the other team either
it's not good. First, I don't want those punches thrown.
Both teams want to play tough. I want to have
good you know battles. And I loved so much of
the first half of the game of you know, a
physical game.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
But never where we're acrossing the line on either team.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
So we want it tough, We want it physical, but
never to where you know, somebody's getting jammed up on
punches throwne penalties, all of that.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
We can play tough, we can play physical, and we
can do it without punching.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Both both teams know that, and that will certainly be
you know, brought across to our team. But uh, I'll
let Nick you know, handle his team, but yeah, definitely
not what we want and h both sides like that'll
be a big emphasis.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
For us for sure.
Speaker 9 (14:28):
Thank you, all right, Thanks coach
Speaker 2 (14:29):
All right, thank you everybody, and we'll see tomorrow.
