Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, good to get rolling with everyone, I thought,
I know he's visited a little bit on Monday. But
even though the games stung badly, I also showed the team, man,
there was a lot of response to the next play.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
And that was something I've talked about with them quite
a bit.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Long drives on offensive you get set back that I mean,
the drives over you go battle for it, and defensive
stops in the fourth quarter. In that same response of
next and not being pissed about it kind of applies
to right now as well, and not letting a Sunday
affect on Wednesday. That's wins and losses. And I loved
the week of practice last week. Like of course that

(00:39):
carried over into the game. And so that's you know,
kind of the energy that I'm looking for going back
into practice again. It's easy with this group, man. They
love one another, they love to compete, and so there's
a hardness about him. As a coach, you can tell
when a team has a look, you know, like they're
ready for the next fight, if it has to go longer, whatever.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
And so I said, they are, you.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Know, like doing hard shit with hard people mentally and physically,
and that's what this week's about, man like getting right
back to it. I loved it was my most favorite
week of practice last week, just the energy they had,
the you know, improvement that we made and so now
that's the chance to go do that again and well
dig get harder to do that.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
For you, is that something you missed and it do
you feel it has maybe energized you in any way.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Missed? Yes? Energized? No? Do I like it? Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
But I would say energized during the game, for sure.
I would say like the other like six days and
like twenty one hours. No, But the game part of
it is like calling is a lot of fun. The
players energize me. That's honestly the truth of it all.
Why I love coaching. I like being around them. I
like teaching. And so during the game, like I'm on

(01:50):
the I'm on the trip with them, you know, and
so ride it with them, and I want to make
sure I'm giving them every chance they can to play
at their best.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
The easier for you to take over that when you have,
like you know, you've built a lot of what you
wanted to establish, something, what you wanted to hear. You
have guys in the offensive staff, you know head coaches
over there. Is it easier for you to do something
like that now than maybe it would have been, you know,
just coming in as that.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, that's fair, John, and and that's also accurate because
there's other things that come across that you need your
time and your attention. But then you're learning the staff too.
When you're a first year coach, you're learning one another
and how that routine goes. And so like, our staff
definitely grew tighter this year, and so now I'm definitely
leaning in more onto others. And I think I even

(02:36):
you know, spoke with that with Thinky one other time
to utilize this talented group of guys, and Joe's also
been at the very front of that. We have a
battle rhythm together that was easy to get into together
and Brian and David and other guys you know on
the staff to do that, I definitely leaned in hard
on them, which was definitely would have been harder earlier.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
I know Atlanta, you had Kyle Flood and Bob Sudden
kind of help out with some of it. Is it
is that set up similar to sort of what you
have going with Guardy and Brian Johnson and Joe here.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
I say it's probably that times, you know, and I
think that's probably true for our league in some ways, Nikki,
that that's expanded, that's evolved.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
You know.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
If you'd ask me, is it the same as it
was in twenty five, I would say certainly not. And
that's a good thing too, Like I enjoy the game
management where we're at the time moouts, when do you
use time? When to use clock at the end. When
it works, it's that's a good call. When it doesn't,
you know, your pissed, But as long as you're good
with the process you went through to get there. This

(03:41):
game had so many moments of even at the end
of the game, you know, shot it wasn't there, throw
it out still save time for the field goal, Like
those were big moments. So but yeah, Bob and others
have been a part of that. But yeah, I say
it's it's expanded more now. I guess probably true in
the NFL.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
That's good two parters since he does it all the time.
In cheats, you mentioned on the Hard Knocks that you
told your team that you know, you guys lost the game,
but you didn't feel they were lost anymore. Hey, what
did you mean? By that and then for the defense,
you know, where do you think they've made the biggest
strides over the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Okay, for the first part, I would say capturing standards together.
I think that's what it's about, of you know, the
battle for it. I thought, in an unusual sense, it
was maybe our best group game still with a loss.
So it's hard to say it was our best game
because you had a loss. But I thought from a

(04:42):
performance if you didn't have that part the performance side,
I thought this was connected the punt for field position,
This was a getting to stop, this was making a play.
So those were things that I liked, and I saw
some people playing some of their best I got for Sayers.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Still and Connery, those were to that.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Really I thought, elevated up and that's what I want
to see, like elevation and improvement. So that was the
first part and on the second part can repeat the
second one, I think we got you know, ways to go.
But I think playing really hard with less mistakes. I've

(05:22):
always thought they were playing hard and then mistakes and
here's a big play in that. So like I never
had questioned that part of it, but having the ability
to go fast as you can, but on that tight
rope of making the right decisions.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
And so that's a big deal.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
And I think we're making progress in that way because
I had never questioned anybody's effort, and I think we're
going that hard but staying on that tightrope of less mistakes.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I think that's a big deal.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Coach, going up against a unique Vikings defensive scheme this week,
is there anything different about how you and your offense
go about preparing for Sunday?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yes, you do have to.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Some games are like that where there's more things to
go through to prepare in different ways. It's it is
kind of, you know, some of the fun parts of
the NFL. This player can't ruin the game. This scheme
is unique. How do you work that at practice? Sometimes
when a team has similar schemes, you don't even use
cards very often, just so you can get the same
speed and the same matchups.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
And then in a game.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Like this where there's some different looks, you want to
make sure you have contingencies go through things, and that's
one of the challenges.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Of it for sure.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
Dan, you mentioned last week having one of your favorite
weeks of practice and kind of pushing the guys to
go hard. Obviously you're focused on it right now and
winning weeks a week, but also are those moments sort
of good information for you to have for the future.
We ain't thinking about guys, you know, being a long
term future the commanders.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
For sure, and like, although we're not gonna have a
winning record, like that does not back off of like
winning standards and habits and things that you want to do,
like elite standards. I think of a guy like Jeremy
Reeves like controlling the things he can, Like you want
to talk about a guy who hustles, Like that's like
that's not ever the case.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
And so when you see people who.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Have exceptionally highest standards for things, of course that rubs off.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Even showed that to the team.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Here's Zach you' becoming one of the leaders in all
time of you know, catching receptions at tight end. But
you're gonna see him on the jokes today, tomorrow, the
next day, Like he doesn't get tired of those things
that really matter, and those standards they're boring, they're like,
you know, monotonous and like now, man, you don't ever
think you have it, So yeah, matters a lot the

(07:39):
practices do, but it's also a lot of fun to
compete together and essentially a man like that's also what
we do, Like it's an awesome op for all of
us to put out our best and like that's my
job to help the player become like as good as
they can be. And that's that Zach that year or
you know, somebody in their first year, Like it doesn't change, Dan,

(08:02):
what's your level of optimism for Noah Brown this week?
Very much in the green high So I got good
optimism And uh, that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Speaker 7 (08:15):
When you have two overtime close games in a row,
especially this past week, when you're playing one of the
best teams in the NFL, is that could you guys
carry confidence from that to the rest of the season, like, hey,
we can hang with anybody.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I think I probably framed it a little differently to
say when we you know, had the week and the
preparation that we did, like you can't.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Help, but like go battle for it.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
There's not like a silver lining that I take from that.
What I do take from it is this is the
small this is the tweak, this is the margin. Like
there's not like a perfect game, and none of us
is gonna play it. But the fact that we played
faster with less mistakes, that means man like drive faster,
you know, like you're closer even more, and so we're
gonna find those things that push us over the top.

(09:03):
But if you have the effort and the speed like that, man,
you got a lot of things that can go your way.
So when I was talking about next play, it might
have been a big penalty, you still got to go
score or you know, fourth down conversion because like you're
in overtime and like.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
This is what you have to do.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
So those are moments that, yeah, you gain from that,
not as much from the final score, Like when you
laid out there, like that's kind of part of being
a competitor, like you got to put it all out
there and knowing that you might get your heart broke
some and like that's the life we live here, and
so it.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Gets criticized, it gets.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
You know, celebrated, and so like you just try to
like you know, absolutely battle for it and knowing that,
like you're not gonna win every game. But man, like
if you can throw out good games, good performances, learn
from them, like I can stay consistent doing that as
opposed to the high and the low of it, So.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
You get pissed. It's frustrating. What do we got to do?

Speaker 1 (09:58):
You know, you have like normal emotion were you know,
regular dudes in that way, but you do want to
keep finding like there's there's more under the tank, in
the tank, so like let's go get.

Speaker 8 (10:08):
It afternoon when it comes to momentum and trying to
stack positive performances. Being able to hold that Broncos pass
rush just two sacks, how does that kind of help
bleed into going up against his Vikings pass rush this week?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Yeah, similar but different and on the edges, I thought
that was a nice job by Josh and probably maybe
his best game as a commander. And I'd kind of
joked with him earlier. I said, like, look, it's hard
to know, like how you're improving right now? I said
a year ago, Man, you're fired up to you know,
play Indiana or Howse State and like, yeah, I can

(10:42):
block that guy. And then now you're blocking guys every week.
They're like, man, this dude is really good, and all
of a sudden, like your skills keep improving. So you
see that jump take place with a lot of the
you know, first and second year players because their their
confidence is gaining, they're getting momentum, and so not comparing
yourself a laramie, but like, am I improving? And I
think that's an important piece for a young player, and

(11:05):
you do gain confidence in that. And our whole game
sometimes is comparison, this versus this, and this versus this.
Sometimes like am I improving? Am I getting better? And
so I was super pumped to see him do that.
It's important part of every game, you know, line play,
run actions.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I thought that helped you know in our.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Game this week that here's a team that if you
can run it and you can stay committed to it,
you don't let him pin your years back and go.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
And that'll be That'll be similar.

Speaker 8 (11:31):
This week as well with Traylon Burks. Obviously the catch
that he made alone is incredible, But uh, you guys
don't bring guys in unless you think this guy can
be a commander. What are some of the things behind
the scenes that you've seen from him that have kind
of confirmed that belief that brought brought him here in
the first place.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Yeah, I think it's the unseen work when Adam and
his group knew a lot more about him. Just going
through the process from draft to that, I got a
chance just to have fresh eyes, man, and say, like,
and I try.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
To do that with every player here.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Sometimes when a person's on another team, well he didn't
do this or he did that, and so like, let's
just see what it looks like here, you know, and
I think a player like Trey deserves that, you know,
have fresh eyes here. And I told him that coming in, man,
like this is your space, and you could feel a
hunger to go for it. The unseen work was coming
in to learn a new system. Some of our verbiage

(12:21):
and communication is unorthodox, but it's not standard NFL wording
and formations and groupings, and so.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
It's not just like add water. Yeah, we used to
call this that.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
And so seeing that type of work, you could feel
how important it was. After you know, his injury to
his finger, Nope, I'll be back where it knew it
could be a couple of weeks. No, no, no, like
he wasn't having any part of that, Like that was
not an option that he wasn't playing. That's what I
felt from him, you know, in the game Denver big bracelet, Nope,
I'm good just catching everything with it.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
And so that's what I see, a guy that's hungry
to prove. And I think you're just going to keep
seeing that.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Coach inside of these walls, yourself, your other coaches, that
locker room there, they see that great week of practice
last week, they see arguably the best overall game from
a full team perspective against the Broncos this past week
outside of the walls. Fan base already looking towards the
next year potentially for some of them, why is it
imperative for you that you dial down down and you

(13:22):
finished this season up to the Commander's standards.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
The last part the standards, that's what you said, and
man like as teammates and from the players for certaintly,
like they deserve the best from us as coaches and
the best from one another.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Like they have busted their ass.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
You know, to get it right, and so performing well
and getting it right that's a really important part of it.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
And I do love that.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
About our team, you know, about like we're talking about
the standards and wanting to go battle for one another.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Like that's such a real thing here.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
And so when you put that much into something, the
feeling of going forward and doing it together. Like man,
that that's hard to express how strong that is, and
certainly it is with this team. So it's really important
building those habits for everybody who's coming back into here
knowing this is the standard, this will.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
This is what we like, this what not.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
It's not rules standards and like it's not something you
follow like this is this is how we do things.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
And uh, I think that's a big difference. Dan.

Speaker 9 (14:25):
In a lot of cases, you can learn a lot
about a team through adversity and challenges. So what has
stood out to you or what's impressed you about this
group in particular kind of during this tough time of
a losing streak.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
I think I'm gonna keep coming back to resilience. What
I was pleased on this game there was a next
play mindset, and as disappointing as it was, like the
example I use, they scored on the very first drive,
went right down the field and scored, and there was
like zero flinch on the offense, and it wasn't like,
oh here, you know, none of that And so the

(15:00):
same we got stopped in the fourth quarter offensively, the
defense was ready to go get a stop and so
I thought there was this resilience for the next play,
like that one went to six quarters, we were gonna
be down to fight, you know, like whatever. Like they
just had that, And so I think when you see
a team have resilience.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
That's a big deal. What I saw in Spain, I.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Loved energy and toughness and doing things together.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Neither of these games.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Worked out for us and stung a lot, But there
are things that I liked about their competitive nature, their toughness,
and like, those things matter in our game. They matter
for the standard here and when you get to demonstrate
it and express it man like. It may not be
seen on the outside the walls, but for damn sure

(15:49):
it is on the inside.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Coach, you mentioned earlier about this strides on defense, you
mentioned making the right decisions. How much that do feel
like is experience learned over the course of the season
and for some guys is inherent.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
It's a little bit of both. The inherent part.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Sometimes I think what you're speaking of is like instincts,
you know what to do, how to do it. Sometimes
that can come with more zone. We've played more zone recently.
It won't always.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Be that case.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Sometimes by the plan this is better for right now,
but it does allow you to have some vision on
a quarterback, knowing where people are, spatial awareness, Like part
of that's instinctive, but like communication plays a big part
of that too, knowing where a certain player is, where
emotion is. So I think it's a combination of instinctive players.

(16:41):
But also like say it again, do it again, Like
we definitely streamline some things to make everything run faster,
and to do that there had to be maybe one
less hesitation, one less step, even if it was more
vanilla and some ways that would just the trade off

(17:01):
now to like start, build, build build.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Do you have any update on Jade Daniels has been
cleared for contact. What's your optimism that he'll play this weekend?

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Optimisty is gonna get a lot of reps for practice.
I'm gonna take it all the way through Friday. There's
still like functional evaluations to go through, but game plan
and practicing and that part is good. You'll see like
on the side, and I say, it's a little more
challenging to work at quarterback when you're not doing the
same contact, so we'll have to simulate as much as

(17:33):
we can. But he's off to a good start, but
we'll go all the way through Friday for sure, but
he'll get a lot of reps of practice quickly.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
The medical staff clearing for contacts.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
He has not been clear for contact. That would be
a game you know one, but they'll also wait for
the whole week too. They have more testing and movements
to examine. So that's where we're at.

Speaker 10 (17:58):
In the opening quarter, guys passed on the long field
goal fifty seven yard kick there obviously new kicker, long snapper.
I just cures what was went into that specific decision
and have you kind of determined what range you have
for Jake Moody at this point.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, it was definitely the former, not the latter. So
it was the snapper, new kicker, new and so I thought,
this is not the first one I want to try,
you know, going into it. So if we could get
into that spot, and I liked, you know, this is
some field position where we go. We've got excellent special teams,
you know, if we could put them down, we go
into that spot. And that was the thought going in.

(18:35):
There's certain like thresholds that we would try in like
the regular part of the game, and then obviously those
extend at the end of the half or the end
of the game. So had it been the end of
the half, that would have been well within you know,
his spots to go, all right, all right, see you guys,
