Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right's good to see you guys, and we'll get rolling.
A quick shout out to the Madrid Bravos from the
ELF get our workouts over at their facility day, and
then also a big thanks to everybody here at Real Madrid.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
What an awesome spot.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
These guys are heavy hitters and allowing us to come
in practice it's a great setup.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
And then lastly, there's been an army.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Of people with the commanders that's you know, worked tireless
a lot of hours to help set this up to
get everything rolling.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
A man do we appreciate all of them.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
So for those of you covering the team, you know
for the first time, a week layout in an NFL
game usually consists of a Wednesday, a Thursday, a Friday, Saturday,
and so the Wednesday is the first day of putting
in a game plan, some practice against one another to
get your skills right. Thursday and Friday more of the
(00:48):
situational work, third downs and red zone, and then you
tie the whole thing together again Saturday in preparation for
the games.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I just wanted to.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Give you that layout of what an NFL we typically
looks like. And all that said, well we'll get ready
to get rocking with you guys, right, change, it's more
(01:22):
in the preparation phase, Nikki going to that and so
obviously I'm always involved with the defense, but you know,
team meetings and special teams and those are are staying
the same. But you know, just in and out of
the practices, and it's been a big collaboration so far.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
So all that is good.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Then as you look at the last month or so
and figure out everything that has not gone the right way,
do you feel like there are foundational problems in roster
and personnel or is it really just execution?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I really feel it execution.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
That's where I do feel that way very and the
reason why I've seen where it hits good and I've
seen where it doesn't. So have we not seen where
we could hit the marks I'd feel otherwise. So that's
what we're digging in hard on to have this time together,
you know, here on this trip to do those things
that's important for us. But that's what I've been digging
in the hardest.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
We want all this dog competing, but man, we want
it with the discipline to get it right as well.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Ya.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
The challenges of these changes when you have a lot
of guys out and there's been consistent with that. What
is a challenge there for you with that and can
you get it to the level with all these changes,
et cetera.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I think you can do.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
You want the continuity, that's what you're talking about also, John,
So on offense in the passing game, you know, the
the alignments, the route depths, just the different timing with
different players and how that can go. Defensively, you want
to make sure you know who's into these spots that
their communication with the other players can get heightened and
do that quickly and do it asked.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
And that's what we intend to do one day. But
what is the latest with Terry?
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I know you said he's not going to play this week,
but has it played in a couple of weeks?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yes, I are more medical opinions. Where's he at?
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Yeah, so he's actually he's here and he'll do some
of the movement you know, and begin like the on
field portions of the rehab. So the first couple of
weeks he was not able to do that, and so
now he's able to begin some of the on field
portions of the rehab. And so that'll take the build
up time to do that, but we're glad he's here
taking the next step on the on field side. So
(03:36):
sometimes these injuries take longer than you want and they're
not predictable to say it's going to be this set time,
and so we're just going to continue to say, Okay,
next step, next step, next step, and so the on
field portion is a good sign that okay, we can
now take the next steps.
Speaker 7 (03:55):
Hey, Dan taking on some of the defensive responsibilities, will
somebody help out with kind of the head coaching responsibilities
in terms of, you know, play clock and all the
different things that you're responsible for in game day.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, and game day.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Dave Guardy's one that helps me quite a bit, and
Brian Johnson also does as well, so I'll lean in
on Brian as well.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
So those are the two that can assist me into
that space.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
Hey there, I know you mentioned earlier in the week
that this kind of you all being here and kind
of a way was a good time you know for you. Also,
is there anything any different that you're doing with your
team this week?
Speaker 1 (04:30):
I think it's the time together, Candy, that's the most thing.
I wouldn't say it's different, but in the evenings, the
watching the films together, you know, doing you know, all
of our film together, where we're you know, maybe not
even splitting.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Up as much as groups.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
So sometimes the tightest, smallest meeting rooms are the best
because everybody's hearing the same word the same way.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
And so that's been a good start.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
That's what we started with today and that'll continue into
tonight and through the week.
Speaker 8 (04:59):
Speaking all the how would you describe your relationship with
coach McDaniel and what do you remember from your time
seeing in Atlanta when you help him?
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Yes, and so one, I've known Mike to be an
excellent coach. He can process things so quickly. It's no
surprise to see that his offense can throw the ball quickest.
They can you know, have the fastest motions. That's that's
Mike to a tee, where he can just think so
quickly on it. When Mike left Atlanta into San Francisco,
(05:31):
new he'd make an impact there and then you'd see
that during his time in Miami, and so the work
with the quarterback, with the offense, that's where he's at
his best. He's quick, he can, you know, get to
the next play quickly, to the next concept. So yeah, man,
I really enjoyed work with Mike. He's one of my
favorite coaches.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
High carts.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
How will the absence of Darren Pain affect the team
this weekend?
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yeah, we'll miss Deron for sure. Inside his presence, the physicality,
Johnny Newton and Javon Kinlaw will be the two that
will feature the most inside and then Eddie Goldman and
Sheldon Day will be there behind. But we're pleased with
where you know, the the development that Johnny is taking,
especially on the pass rush side. He had some injuries
(06:19):
coming into last year and I felt like it took
him this season, this preseason to like hit his stride
and hit to the next spot, and.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
I feel like he's doing that. So muleen in on
more on him for sure.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
I got helocome to Madrid and thanks for explaining us
how the week works for very welcome. How do you
think these three overseas you know, top season can help
you to build chemistry for a strong finished and maybe
to carry over to next year. Seen a few miles
away from home, and then if you can have a
few words about Marcus and his role last year, maybe
(06:58):
mentoring if he did Jayden and this year taking over
as a season teran on, I think doing a good job.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Thanks coach, You're very welcome.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
The first part of the question I'd like to hit on,
and I actually told the team that today is as
a group, you know, we're coming here to actually get stronger.
And some of that is connection. Some of that is
our practice and the way that we can do that together.
But all of it will be done together. It'll be
seen in the game on Sunday of those things that
(07:27):
we address and how we go there. So that's the
first part of us getting stronger together. Can we you know,
bring the competition at practice, Can we get the communication
that we want. Can we get the skills and the
technique aligned like we wanted. But that was the main
goal to get connected and actually get stronger during this
week here together, and we think we can do that.
As far as Marcus goes as a quarterback, not only
(07:49):
was he a leader in the quarterback room, he's also
a leader on the team and you feel his support.
He puts in all of the work behind the scenes,
and all of his teammates know that he challenges one
another for his teammates that practice with his skill, with
his technique. But I think you feel his support the most,
(08:11):
and that's where as a leader, I felt his impact
not just with Jayden from a mentoring role all that significant,
but it's with other players as well, and he's certainly
one that we count on. And it's times like now
that this is this is why Marcus is here and
this is the moment, and so he's really ready for
(08:32):
that challenge.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Right here.
Speaker 9 (08:35):
You talked about times like now considering what's happened the
last couple of weeks and the frustration that a lot
of players showed in that game. Jron Kwan, did you
feel as the head coach you had to address that
frustration level with certain players or the entire team.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
With the entire team first and it was directly at
the half and to make sure we don't those things.
You don't want to wait check, you don't want to
you want to hit it now. You want to get
right to it, and having the chance to address it
right off the bat, like you clemch the fist. You're upset.
It's emotional all that. We feel it too, you know
as coaches when you're not hitting your marks and you
(09:10):
get frustration, but it's also what's the techniques that we
need to do to move on to the next and
a lot of that will come back to our focus.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
What are the things we can control.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Expect that it's going to feel off and feel shitty
when when it's not going your way, and so how
do we turn ourselves into the next space, into the
next moment, And that's what we work on, So our
mental game, you know, that's where we try to dig
in on that.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Hey, coach good, I.
Speaker 10 (09:38):
Know you were talking about Mike a little earlier and
you've talked about it before, but in a period where
guys may deal with personal issues they don't share, he's
talked about how you helped him through his alcoholism.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
What do you remember.
Speaker 10 (09:48):
About that time and maybe how you were able to
help him through a period where I'm sure he was
keeping some things private.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Yeah, I think for for us, all of us.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I think when there's an issue, sometimes you don't want
to let somebody you know you're with know you're counting
on them, they're counting on you. But really, you know,
leaning in, that's that's the biggest strength we can do.
And in that space, all I want to do is
help and give support and then the real work begins.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
For for the person who's in that spot.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
And that's exactly what Mike did to say, this is
what I'm gonna work on and how I'm gonna go
do it, and then that's when the real work begins.
And uh, it's part of the reason I'm so proud
of him, you know, to make sure, Okay, this is
something that's happening, this is how I'm gonna go deal
with it, and then I'm staying connected to that and
sharing that with other people. So anybody now he now
(10:41):
can help and pay that forward. And I think that
takes a lot of guts to do that, and that's
one of the reasons I'm real proud of them.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
Hi, coach my Finian services. You were took in before
about the frustration you are feeling sometimes. Did you talk
with and after after the incident of the other day?
How is feeling? How is he feeling? Is he he
how he is feeling about that incident? I also I
will ask told you about Kris Rodrigez. He has a
(11:13):
problem so the other day and he will be able
to play on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Thank you, You're very welcome. First, let's talk about deron
and pain. So yes, we actually uh had a chance
to visit about that. He also had a chance to
visit with the NFL and you know state what he did.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Hey, this is wrong.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
This is what I wanted to you know, express to
them and make sure he knew that that a player
had only been penalized you know, one time for the season,
so it'd been out of character for him to do that.
So he wanted to be able to you know, express
his remorse, you know, for that incident. As far as
Chris Rodriguez at running back, yeah, he did enter his
shoulder in the game, but he is going to be
able to play this week. We'll start the practice today
(11:56):
and we're excited Chris has been it was a captain
in our last game and as one of our more
consistent players, so you know, we'll lean in on him.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
He's somebody we all count on, all right, Thank you everybody,
