Speaker 1 (00:00):
First thing I thought, you know, don't like it as
the start. You know, we've continued that slow start, and
we've become way too accustomed of digging ourselves add a
hole too early, turnovers, one late, all three phases dug
our dug the hole, and all three phases helped get out.
But we didn't create enough takeaways to finish minus three.

(00:21):
You really don't deserve to win many games when you're
you know, in that space. So I had chances for interceptions,
had chances to get some, did not create any honestly,
just didn't perform well enough. Run game both sides, So
a lot that needs our attention and get right back
to it as we you know, get going right against
the division ponent next week. But this one stings, and

(00:44):
you have a chance even to dig yourself out and
go battle for it and not get that job done.
But like I said, you got to you got to
create them all sort of to finish in the plus.
So when I get starting.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
So close, you had, you had the ball in your
possession and kind of uncharacteristic for your quarterback to lose
the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
What do you tell him after a game like this? Yeah,
honestly wasn't just that play, you know, like there's there's
plenty in there to go and and uh, you know,
we just didn't regard it like we can, you know,
And so that's that's the lesson and it stings, and
we've got to grow from them, man, like you just
you know, have to make sure we're taking our spaces
to go definitely play. He'd want back. Man, he's like,

(01:27):
you know, incredible player who makes plays and so it sucks,
but you know, like in his space, like he will
make way more than he isn't. But uh, tonight, that
that one stings.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
And I know you haven't looked at the film yet,
but was that was that a bad exchange? Was where
Bill's hands not in the right place?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
For mean?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Where was that more age?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I think when I go back to watch and I'll
have a better answer for you tomorrow. I think it
was Jayden on the keep, So that's what he told
me coming off. That's like him to take responsibility even
if it wasn't, So I'll have a better answer. But
that's what my viewpoint. But I haven't seen it that Dave,
But that's that's my viewpoint of it.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Defensively, besides the lack of turnovers. There was again tackling issues,
and I know it was a wet field, but it
was a wet field for them too, you know, So
just wondering what you saw it.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, and going in, I thought, you know, could we
play you know better on third down and have some space?
I thought we did that one, but just in the
run game wasn't strong enough in my opinion, And on
the long one obviously missed a tackle on the blitz,
so that one that one's things. But again I just
didn't think we played well enough in any of the phases.
Dug ourselves out of a hole, dug ourselves into it first,

(02:35):
but you know, we got a lot to clean up.
Give them credit to I thought they came in and
made the plays, but you don't usually even have a
chance to win at some of those and minus.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Three, Dan Sarf, you but dressed this in your opening comments.
But the swift play, what did you kind of see there?
Was looked like maybe this QUANDT could have just bumped
out of bounds, but maybe that's easier said than done.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, I was just obviously, Yeah, you had a man
of man's but and so we know he's a lusive,
good player and so use the sideline to try to
get it, and so yeah, it's it's a yes, unfortunate one.
He's somebody we'd absolutely count on that spot and also
give credit to Swift, but yeah, just one on one
match up and you know one that would count on
him plenty of times to do that.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Said, if you could put a finger on it, you
would solve it. But the big plays, you know, obviously
it's been an issue defensively the last few weeks. Is
there something that seems to be a constant within that
and giving up those plays on.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
That specific one, a lot of other players big plays,
I can on specific on that one, it was a
blitz and so he had a man a man. But
that was the the negative of it, I guess, you know,
when you're all risk on it, you know, but we
also expect him to make that too, Like like CON's

(03:50):
an excellent player and you know he wants that one back.
There's no doubt concert with the defense, they've big plays
each game.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
What is that level of concern move?

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, I just wanted to be more physical honestly tonight.
You know, in the run game, I didn't love how
that looked I thought we had a chance to get
you know, up on top you know for interception, but uh,
you know, the run game would wouldn't up to the
standard that of the team. In my opinion, John, Wasn't
it more physical than you think? Yeah, I don't. I'd
have to look at it and give an answer on
that tomorrow. I just you know, look down overall to

(04:23):
you know, extend some drive to go that that's a
big deal to me. Kind of in a similar vein
with the slow starts, you've had some kind of on
the road.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
How concerning is it to have one at home? And
I know we guys just before, what can you do
to kind of address that?

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, it was on the road, and we did, you know,
continue with that when I talked about it previously. You know,
going into it on the field goals that's not the
worst thing, but you know, to have a turnover and
get knocked out that way, I think that you know,
caused us, you know to give up some points. So
quite on, I think just you know, the ball and

(05:01):
the turnover margin, that's that's a big deal for us.
We've got to create them to get into the plus
and you know, so for us to you know, two
of them in the first half and one there at
the end. That's that's not the recipe we're gonna We're
gonna want.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
Dan in not in terms of not getting ahead of
the game, getting out in front. Does it also feel
like you're not getting ahead of the season Last year
you kind of race out to a big start. You're
three and three, kind of middling at six games in.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, I don't think that far down the line. Honestly,
just want to play better and uh, you know, we'll we'll,
we'll continue to dig in to do that. And so
there's definitely things that I'm gonna like about it. You know,
continue to see Luke and kick off return. There's spaces
to go. So for me, it's not just us getting
better and we'll dig in hard as hell to do that.

(05:50):
We've got lots of spaces to do it. But uh,
I just don't think too far down the line, just
kind of like right into the space we're in right now.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Dan, you mentioned the run game wasn't working as well
both sides.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
What did you take away from that? What did you
think was missing there?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, I have a better answer for that tomorrow, Nikki.
When we go through it, you know, specifically to you know,
to why you know we didn't get the big explosive
rung you know that we normally get. Obviously when you
turn it over you don't get as many cracks at
it either. But you know, I'll have a better answer
as I go through it. Just felt like I thought
we'd have some more shots to move the you know,

(06:27):
move them.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
In the rung game and just was coy at least
one fumble on each of the us too. Just what
do you say to them in those situations, you know,
just being young to have to worry about his confidence
or anything.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Not the confidence Like most of the time, I just
want to get you know, like what was the cause?
You know, what's the lesson that you learn? Are you're
fighting for extra? Was it high and tight? If if
somebody makes a fantastic play on you, I'll give them credit,
you know, But if there's a space where it wasn't it,
you know, secure enough that you clamp it into the traffic.
Those are the lessons Nikki, that we've got to get right.

(06:59):
He's a hell of a competitor, takes it hard. So
it's not the confidence, But I want to make sure,
like if there's a technique error that we can see it.
It didn't feel like there was a you know, huge
punch that you know took place, But I'll dig in
for sure and find it. Dan, you talk about winning
time moments frequently and you guys coach those, not just

(07:20):
the fumble, but like kind of the totality towards the
end there. How surprised were you by the lack of execution? Yeah,
I was, I was. I was surprised. It's an area
that we obviously spend a lot of time on a
lot of space, and uh, we'll continue to do that,
but for us to come out at the other end
of it, you know, it just not getting in creating takeaways.

(07:42):
I think, honestly, that's a big part of it too. Man,
Like the end, we don't like it, but we've got
to go get the stops to go make that happen.
We didn't. I give you give credit to Chicago. They
outperformed us tonight and that that's things, but that's that's
the facts.
