Speaker 1 (00:00):
There you roll, all right? What's up everybody? All right?
Get started for getting into end of the week. I
spoke with the team a little bit on Monday and
again today. I'm leveling up and aiming to execute a
little better. Can we a little faster while maintaining the discipline.
Can we try to up the physicality while maintaining our discipline,

(00:21):
and so into those things of leveling up, that's the
skill work, and that's what we'll continue to like dig
in hard with the guys to make sure like improvement, improvement, improvement,
So there's plenty for us to dig in on. Then
having a couple of games away back to back, it's
also great to be to back home night game with
our fans and it'll be rocking, so we're all looking

(00:44):
forward to that. And lastly to the Caps and coach Carberry,
good luck. You know they begin their season believe tonight.
So get started with you.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Guys, update on what you expect from Terry and Noah
specifically in practice today and then this.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Week you'll see Noah out of practice today Terry won't.
And then with the extra day, it was kind of
work our way through with Terry to see where we're
at and just kind of watch as we're going through
it with he and Noah both.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And then looking back at that game against the Bears
last year, what was the impact you think obviously Jaden
was having a good year before that, played before that game,
But was there was there an impact on him after
that game or even on the team in general.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Well, I think, for one, I think he showed a
lot of toughness. You know, he was coming back from
getting banged up, and I thought for him, you know,
like that just kind of solidified I guess what we
already knew about the toughness and who he is and
what he does. I think past that, man, just some belief, John,
that would be the one, you know thing that you're
never out of the fight.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
With Noah. I mean, what was sort of your expectation
after he you know, suffered the injury he did in
mini camp And is he still dealing with lingering effects
from that injury?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
No, Yeah, this is separate, okay. And so when he
had the knee from earlier, that part's doing better. So
at Green Bay that's when he injured the groin, So
he's he's doing well, He's getting closer, and so like
with the extra day. That certainly helps, but we'll to
see where the week takes us. With he and Terry both.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
And Bobby Ingram. You know the work he's done with
some of the younger wide outs, Yeah, Luke and Jalen
what have How has he helped them develop in the
last year or two years.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, it's he's an excellent coach, Nikki, and he's got perspective,
he's got insight, like today presented to the team, and
so different guys on different days will present some things,
and so he was one that went today, he and
Ken both did. We talked about tackling, breaking tackles and
just perspective, examples teaching. And so when you have that

(02:42):
kind of like excellent, world class level teaching, you know,
it gets through and so over and over. And that's
why even this year added him into some of the
team presentations just because of that.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Damn, when you guys were in the midst of kind
of deciding the running back room, obviously Brown was in
its own situation, but did you look at which the
guys that were coming back along with Bell and go
this could work like it may be different, we won't
have a bowel cow, but this could work if we
want to go down that road. And did that make

(03:18):
it easier to kind of pull the trigger on.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, I think because you also had Austin into that
space as well, and so which you know, guys, could
you feature into different spots And we're comfortable doing that,
David about you know, whether it's on offense or defense,
that's a fine, but we're good the But what it
does push you towards is what's the things that somebody

(03:42):
can do best? And we felt they were complimentary in
their own ways. And I love how Bill's continuing to progress.
And then there's like a consistency side with Chris with
Jeremy that also feeds into him too. I wish I
could explain their support of one another and how they
get better and grow. But having proof and examples of

(04:03):
that from those you know three and including you know
Austin from the training camp, Yeah, that that definitely gave
us vision. This a talented group. I knew it was
going to be a good group going into camp. We
felt that would be the one of the more competitive
ones there. And tight end or two offense that an
offensive line that speak to like and the whole room
was very competitive. You could feel the energy of like, man,
this rep counts, this day counts.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
You're gonna I'm sure you've already been asked seven hundred
questions about the Hail Mary. I just wondered, what what's
going through your mind as you see the ball in
the air, just like and you know, the likelihood of
this working is very small.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Like yes, I would say, and one, I don't mind
the question. That was one of the most fun chapters
of last year. It is last year's stories, not this year's.
But probably like most of us, there's like the longer
a scramble goes on, Hail Mary, at least you know
the plays the ball is going to get off, so
you're not looking down the field too early, but to

(05:02):
make somebody miss, you're waiting, waiting, and then probably like
most of us, a collective gasp. And so I don't
know if there was a lot of activity in that
little space in between from like he's going to get
it off to the catch. I think like everybody just
like shit, and you know you're waiting and not knowing,
And so that's probably the space that I was at.

(05:26):
But it's a play that's also and I think Aaron
Rodgers probably been one of the best that I've seen
going against it a buying time when to go how
high you have to throw it to create trajectory to
go down because you have to have time for the
players to get down the field so far. So it's
something that the guys work on. But yeah, it was
rare and fun and all those things.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
High coach on the same topic, when you're helping the
guys prepare this week, how much do you talk about
that play in the end of that game versus recognizing
Chicago's a different team this year and you have a
whole different week of preparation.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Head yep was the first I talked about it right there.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
You haven't adjusted with the team at all? Zero do
you plan to none? Yeah, So that's all I thinks.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
This last year's story, you know, like it was awesome,
we loved it, but like, doesn't apply to this week's
game at all unless we get into that exact scenario
and that exact situation, so then we can talk about it.
But until then, like, we got a lot of stuff
to get better at and work on to get ready.

Speaker 6 (06:30):
Not that play specifically, but but Jaden's ability to extend
plays get out there, keep things alive. How does that
have an impact on the offense of a whole as
a whole knowing you know the next play could be
a big play.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Yeah, you want, That's where some of the explosives come from.
I was pleased to see Barry and some of the plays.
We didn't complete one in the end zone, but I
thought he remained a pastor and did a nice job
of ripping one down into the end zone at LA
And so that's a big deal. When do I take
my shot to go? When do I remain a pastor?
And as long as you staying with your eyes downfield
and being aggressive, they have to stay back, which allows

(07:04):
some scrambles to take place, because if they do, you
can rip it. But we do practice it, just like
you practice many other things. Sometimes just we've done this
route against this coverage. Now it's time to get outside
the pocket and the second play would begin. So it
is something that we practice. It's not, you know, five
or six times in a practice because it's an off

(07:26):
schedule play, but you do have to practice it, and
there's certain routes that come from that play and where
we would go. But it does take work and with
somebody you know who's athletic as he is, you can
see why I'll just run for it. And knowing that,
like there's actually a bigger one, you know on the
other side of it.

Speaker 7 (07:45):
Yes, saw that Sam Cosby last week was a full
practice participant but ultimately didn't play. I guess what's the
next step for him to be able to get over
that final hope.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
He did a lot of reps last week. We practiced
in two days because we left, you know, and he
stayed back. So he'll get the full week of practice.
He'll work both scout team and you know with the offense.
So we're not putting any space other than just man,
go play and get your technique right and allow our
eyes his eyes to trust that he's put himself in

(08:15):
a good spot with all the work that he's done.
But I'm just going into the week with fresh eyes,
you know, like did the walk through today, reps there,
He's getting reps in the practice today, so let's just
see where it goes. The padded practice tomorrow, that's a
big factor. That'll be his first time doing that as well.

Speaker 7 (08:30):
You've had Chris Paul Andrew Wilie playing well at guard
the last couple of weeks. I know they're playing different spots,
but are they sort of in competition with each other
to determine who's going to be the other guard started
besides cosm.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yeah, would say's competition all the time. But you know,
as we're going into it, you know it's let's wait
till he gets back and gets going. I think gets
more appropriate for it because even then, you know, how
much are we going to go right when he does
get back. So I think we got, you know, some
time to work through where we want to get to there.

Speaker 8 (08:55):
Yeah, there's been obviously moving parts, injuries, things like that,
especially on offense. Debo has been available and seems to
just produce week in, a wait week out. How I
guess how much has he meant for the first five
weeks to your success?

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Yeah, he's He's been a lot. I think it's the
competitive nature also that he brings. I think we've all
seen him, you know, different ways he can be featured.
So he's from kick returning, he's done it out of
the backfield, catching down the field route. So I'm pleased
with the trajectory that he's headed. The next steps. You know,

(09:34):
different spots, different locations, you know, and so he's making
all the right moves for us, and so we just
want to keep him on this trajectory and where he's
at and how we're going. But it's the competitive nature
that he brings into the play. Sometimes. There was a
screen the other day that you know, could have been
two yards gained and I think it ended up being

(09:54):
eight just by the sheer force and nature that he
entered into the And so plays like that they may
not show up big on the stat sheet, but they
just convert into the next one and into the next one,
and so he's had a lot of those so far.

Speaker 9 (10:10):
Dan Dorance Armstrong has had a really strong start to
the season. He's already duplicated his sack total from last year.
He has five sacks. What's made him so effective this season.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
I think he's got versatility that he's able to work
more this year inside outside different spots no one wanted
to take a shot, and so that's a big piece
for us, you know, the addition of Vonn and Jacob
and where we can feature him and Luvu and how
we do it. So I think it's allowed his ability
to match up on guards, be out on both sides,

(10:42):
So just a versatility that he can play a number
of spots. I think that's that's the big reason to it.

Speaker 9 (10:47):
And since you've arrived, you guys have played really well
at home and you have another opportunity on Monday primetime
game a national spotlight. How much of a point of
emphasis when you arrived is the kind of protect home field,
kind of feed off the crowd, create an environment where
it's going to be a tough place to play for anybody.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, we want that. We've got to demonstrate that to
the fans, you know, and make sure they know how
hard we want to play for them, and in return
make it such a allowed environment that it can be
challenging and they can affect the game with snap counts
and other things that go into that. So it's definitely
something that we don't take for granted. And like that's
why we're so pumped to be back home after a

(11:25):
couple weeks on the road, to get back at Northwest
and get wrong with everybody. Hey, good aftering, coach, good afternoon.

Speaker 10 (11:32):
You guys have the best running attack in the NFL
right now. Yeah, your third down percentage is I think
probably not as high as you would like it to be.
How do those two things kind of marry to each
other and what is it going to take for your
offense to get that number higher?

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yeah, two things I think we're still digging in on,
like most things, are still trying to get better at.
You know, some of our pre snap fouls, we've had
some of those that knock us into some longer ones.
And the third downs, as you reference to say, can
we how many of these can be smaller and closer
as opposed to one that have more time and distance
on to them, so they do tie together? When do

(12:07):
we get you know, the thirds that are medium compared
to thirds that are long, and so those are definitely
ones that that do tie together. But it's definitely as
you know, we talked about our leveling up, that's that's
one of them. And as a coach, you get to
spend more time on some certain areas and how do
we affect that both ways? And so third downs I think,
you know a big piece for us, and in Chicago

(12:28):
that's one of the things that they do excellent.

Speaker 10 (12:30):
And then just any updates might be able to provide
on Brandon Coleman kind of how he's moving along behind
the scenes.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Yep. I was pleased to see the practice out of
BC last week, what he did, how he played, and
then we'll go back through the whole thing again. But
I thought it through a really good week last week,
and it's a good group that we have, and so
it is high competition and we'll continue to play it out.
But I was pleased with I saw last week, and
we'll head that into this week as well.

Speaker 11 (12:56):
Uh, when it comes to preparing for an opponent, how
much do you see the importance of focusing on playing
to your own strengths or maybe avoiding what you see
as your team's weaknesses, as opposed to maybe avoiding or
containing your opponent's strengths or trying to exploit what you
see as their weakness.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Yeah, quite a bit. And I think you want to
talk a little bit like counter punching. You know, where
are we strong, where do we go, where do we
take our shot? Where do we have to protect yourself
if you're vulnerable in an area. So the way that
we go about it is talking to the team. There's
a way that you want to go win every game,
and these are the important factors in this game of
things that you want to emphasize or do not differently.

(13:40):
But there's some things that you may want to emphasize.
My job as the head coach is to kind of
interlock those with offense and defense and special teams and
why field position would be so big and how can
we you know, find an edge on a certain you know,
play or side of the ball. And so I share
that with the entire team as opposed to just to
spend teams group or just the offense. That way, I

(14:01):
want the whole team to feel connected, you know, to
how we have to go and play. So yeah, it's
a big piece of that. Where they're vulnerable, where you are,
where you're strong, where the matchups are. It's a big
piece of it.

Speaker 11 (14:15):
This game is part of a long stretch now where
you've got no one o'clock Eastern time games, a whole
bunch in primetime, you've got your overseas trip. How does
that affect or change or maybe it doesn't planning and
preparation for the games, and can that be an advantage
a disadvantage? Does it not matter?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Well? I think you want to stay consistent as much
as you can for the players, and so if you
have a longer week, I don't think you need to
put in more into the game plan, like just you know, okay,
you have an extra day to do more. So I
want to stay consistent. So in like almost a three
day block of a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday installs the teaching,
the things that you emphasize. And so when it's a

(15:00):
shorter week, you know, like coming off a Monday, I'd
still like to stay in that same block. You know,
this is what we're emphasizing, this day, this day, this
day to get ready. So a day or two extended
in between, we just try to main consistent. That way
for the players, their learning, their preparation can stay consistent
where we don't throw more on them one week and

(15:20):
less on them another week. Man, Like, this is the
process that we go about it. Now, the times change
and the days may change, but as long as we
have that space where we have like three days to
put in the game plan, go through it, rehearse it,
talk about it, get to the details of it, then
we feel good. That includes a Thursday night where it's
shorter or a Monday week where it could be longer,

(15:43):
we still focus on the same set of installs and
teachings to go through it, and I think that levels
out over the course of a season, where you're not
giving one opponent too much or too much emphasis, too
much credit, or you can game plan too much, meaning
every little thing that you know can be too much

(16:03):
for the players, or not giving a team the amount
of credit that they deserve. So we try to stay
consistent with all the opponents, and this is how we
go about it and try to stay consistent with that.

Speaker 12 (16:16):
Dan, if I tell you there's a team that leads
the league in rushing, but it's twenty eighth in time
of possession, can you explain how that those two teams
things match because it seems they should be more in
line but not.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Yeah, it would be. I think it's the whole factor
of it. You know, like there's probably some games we
had too many long drives, you know, defensively that we
didn't like. So I think it all kind of, you know,
works in together as we're going. I still feel like
there's plenty of areas for us to improve upon. Third
downs would be a big part of that as well, Ben,

(16:49):
because obviously now there's some punts and some things that
end some drives. I think that's probably the closest correlation.
When you're playing really well on third down, you have,
you know, more extended drives. If you're really effective on
first and second downs, you could actually have less third downs,
you know, and you're just maintaining the ball. So we've

(17:10):
got plenty of work to do on third down, but
I would say going in that could be one of
the you know, the topics. All right, all right, thank
you guys. Have a good one.
