Speaker 1 (00:00):
From Yes, I'm just curious how you see you fitting
in here and what was attractive about coming to Washington.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hey, John, you know, my role is whatever they asked
me to do. You know, I've played enough ball and
in multiple different schemes. You know, I'm fairly versatile on
the defensive side of the ball and on special teams.
If they want me to come off, to come off
on third down, you know, and rush the passion, That's
what I'll do. If they want me to play first,
(00:27):
second down, and that's what I'll do, man. But obviously
I'm excited for the opportunity. It's a hot team right now,
a lot of a lot of talented players, dudes that
are hungry. Man, do that that I look back and
think back about the Chicago game last year.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I was, I was in Chicago last year.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
But just that the the you can feel the the
energy that the guys play with. You can fill the
hunger that they play with, that that no quit mentality
that they play with. And obviously that's a contagious man,
you know, So anyway I could be a part of that.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I'll try to be a part of that for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
And You've had a couple of stops and starts because
of injuries throughout your career. How how has that affected
you and where do you fear with your health at
this point and what what help you? What do you
feel you can do?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Hey man, I feel like when I'm healthy, the world
is mine, you know, And and right now is that
probably healthy?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Has I've been since since the season ended last year?
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I feel really good. Body feels good, you know, for
that a two year span. You know, I was dealing
with a couple of bumps and bruises and things like that.
I had a couple of unfortunate things happened a little
bit of my control. But other than that, my body
feels great. I feel feel explosive, feel fast, man. You know,
still feel like I still dominate this game. Man, So
(01:48):
I'm excited about it.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Nikki, Hi, Jacob Niked You followed with the Washington Post.
I know you've had a few steps in the NFL,
but you know, looking back at Seattle, I know you
have a number of connections here from your time in
Seattle with Ken Norton, Wagner, number of guys. How much
did that appeal to you and in coming here and
working with those guys again.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I think it's a great opportunity, you know, to come
and work with Kenny again, and obviously play with Bobby again.
You know, Bobby was my vet, you know when I
came out and and Coach Norton was my the linebacker
coach in Seattle when I was there, you know, and
I was kind of in between the linebacker room and
the D line room.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
So that means that to do two rookie dinners shout
out to Bobby. But uh, it was it was a
great time, you know. Obviously that that that that made
this decision a lot easier. You know that they're here,
you know, so I'm excited. I'm excited to work with
those guys.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Again, for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
And do you expect that to be the case again
here where you'll be dipping in two different rooms or.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
I'm not really sure, man, I'm not really sure, to
be honest with you, of of what what the plan
is exactly, but hopeful I'm in the D line room.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
So Handy.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
Hid the air candy water from BUISV. Welcome to DC,
Welcome to the area. So you just mentioned that you
and of course we're looking up your bio. You were
in Chicago last year, so you kind of on the
other side experience and the whole hell Mary, the experience
and in that game kind of going down as one
(03:30):
of the biggest moments in the season last year. So
how would you weren't just watching the team in that
game specifically, what were some of the things you observed
about this team?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Well, for for me, that that game was was important
because that was my first game back last year, you know,
coming off I R so I was just excited to
play in a in a hostile atmosphere, you know, to
make it feel like I'm playing football again.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
You know, just like that that the overall, the overall.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Like initial comeback or return to play, those feelings, but
playing you know, obviously playing in the game and playing
even on that that last that Holmary played on the
on the field during that play, you can just feel
how how together the guys were, you know what I mean,
(04:24):
Like there's just a general camaraderie amongst the guys and.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
You know they're they're.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Their goals or their aspirations never wavered in that game.
You know, you you can feel that as a competitor,
you know, if someone I feel like they have the
edge on you. You know, you can most definitely feel that,
you know what I mean. So those guys didn't blink
when when we played them, you know what I mean.
And to be able to join a squad like that,
continue to build and see the things that they were
able to do in the postseason, it's truly amazing. It's amazing,
(04:56):
you know, and it makes it it makes it makes
a guys decision or got like me, My decision makes
a lot easier for sure to come join a roster
and an organization like that.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
And how would you describe your overall game and approach
to just gameplay and game study.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
For sure, stud of the game. You know.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I've had to learn a lot of different jobs and
roles over the years. So my my versatility and learning
football is you know, it's up there with some of
the best.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I've been on seven different teams and made an impact
on every team I've been on, you know, So my
my abilities are my in my opinion, are unlimited, you know.
So just out here trying to make the best of
my opportunities for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Thank you and.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
Welcome again, las On Donna, Hi, Donad Hopkins Pro Football Class.
Welcome here. I went in signing with the Commanders, What
were some of the most important factors for you coming
to this organization?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
I would say the guys, you know, I would say,
the mindset of the head coach and GM and obviously
like as a as a D lineman, right, you know,
or as a defensive player. You know, you don't want
to go to a team and I'm not saying there's
nothing or anything wrong with it, but you don't want
to go to a team where there's an offense it's
an offensive minded you know, head coach or just organization.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
And when what having what happened DQ at the home
you know one not only is the a defensive guy,
but he's a D line guy, you know what I mean.
And and D lineman like other D linemen, you know
what I mean. So, uh, it makes it made my
decision super easy, you know what I mean. And and
then obviously the guys that I that I know or
I've worked with in the past, you know that we're
with DQ, whether at a stop in Atlanta or after
(06:51):
that or down in Dallas. You know, so uh, that
makes my decision super easy, you know what I mean?
In terms of a D line guy that understands D
line play and everyone that he's touched, you know, in
terms of their D line ability that they have gone,
you know, to the next level, you know. So I'm
excited to work with him. Been a fan of his
(07:11):
for for a long time for sure.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
And you felt that, you said that you felt that
you could still dominate this game. What do you think
your greatest strength is at this point of your career
and moving.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Ahead with this team Right here, I would say how
technically sound I've become over the years.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
I don't think I've lost a step.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
But one thing that has proven has has improved significantly
in my game is my technique, whether that be hand placement,
I progression, things like that. Just those those little intangible
things are the part of the game that that have
grown exponentially for me.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Thanks and welcome again.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
One point fall Sorry, but if you were mentioning the
improvement and your technique as that just come with reps,
different schemes, or is there something that you know, you really.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
I mean I think something that I had to had
to was kind of like forced into it, you know,
I didn't really have the ability to to, you know,
rely on on scheme throughout my career because I've been
in you know, seven different places, six different places, you know,
so I've had to learn new techniques or learn a
(08:28):
blanket of technique where I could play consistently, because you know,
at the end of the day, football is one thing
is violent, you know what I mean. If you can
throw your hands violently and your hand placement is consistent
and violent, you'll win a lot of the downs that
you're in. You know, whether that you're you're being asked
to play outside linebacker or defensive end, or or off
the ball back or you know what I mean, whatever
the case may be, violent hands. You know that that's
(08:51):
been that's been something that that that you can apply everywhere,
you know, And I think my technique of doing that
efficient clip has gotten a lot better because I had
to do that. You know, something, to play, you have
to be able to do that for sure.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
Awesome, Thank you,
