Speaker 1 (00:01):
Cliff, no Jaden again this week? How pleased to be
been with what you've seen from Marcus and what changes
for you if anything, when he's under center.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yeah, I mean he's been tremendous. Really.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
I think going back to last year was a tough spot.
This last week we didn't play very good overall. We
were down big. You know, he had one throw he'd
liked to have back. But just his command of the offense,
the way he leads, the way he prepares, the way
he's played in the games has been really good. So
not much full change. We'll try to do stuff that
he likes specific to him and try to tailor the
(00:32):
game plan of that, but other than that, we'll just
kind of loose and let it go.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Cliff, you guys have been really efficient run under a ball
this season, but attempts wise somewhere middle to pack. I
think thirteenth is where you guys are right now. Turns
of it since per game, is that something you'd like
to see increase or is it kind of where you'd.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Like it to be it? Yeah, I think it's just
game to game.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
You know, I'm pretty big on Hey, let's see what
we're effective in that week. And see if we're gonna
exploit it the best we can. But I've been impressed
with the run game. We had as much success last
week and they did a lot of things to try
and stop that. And gott to tip your hat to Dallas,
but we can always get better. But I like the
(01:10):
efficiency with which we've run the ball so far.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
And I know it's not guaranteed they're going to play,
but if you get McLaurin and Debo back this week,
how could that kind of help open up things for
you in the run game as well?
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, that always helps. There's no doubt there's certain coverages
that teams aren't willing to play when you have guys
like that on the field, and so they can definitely
help open things up if they're able to go.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Hey, good aftering, coach.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
And obviously don't want to say too much about it,
just because of the game planning, you know, aspect of it.
But when you are going up against the D lineman
the caliber of a guy like Chris Jones, like, there's
obviously the avenue if you can try to attack him
and kind of you know, throw him off his game
that way, or try to avoid him. I guess just
your process of deciding which way to go in that situation.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yeah, there's certain game records that will recognize as staff
early in the week and be like, hey, how are
we going to handle it this week, and then try
to put a good plan in place. He's one of
the guys. I think the thing most impressed about him
is just the kind of the big moments he has.
He tends to step up and fourth downs or fourth
quarters or overtime when they really need to play. He's
(02:11):
the guy that makes it and so it's hard to
prepare for that. But he's a tremendous player, and we'll
try to have the best play in a place we
can to try and slow him down if possible. It's
definitely a challenge, there's no doubt. I think that's a
credit to coach Spags and his defensive staff to be
able to maximize him by moving in different spots, and
(02:33):
so you don't never know on each play where he's
going to be. So you can't just set anything in stone,
Hey this is how we're gonna handle him. You got
to have answers for a bunch of different fronts and looks.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Between last year and this year, Jaden's best a couple
of games here and there. What's he like around the
facility of the weeks that he's unable to go in
the meeting rooms on the practice field?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
What kind of what kind of teammate is he there?
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, he's an awesome teammate. I mean, he loves football,
So he's definitely a resource to these guys. You can
tell he wants to be playing, there's no doubt. He
can't hide that. But he's a tremendous teammate. He still
puts the work in, still leads, and so that's that's
been good to see.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
Hey, coach yesterday, Coach Quinn mentioned that he took a
look at the last you know, seven games, and I
mean last week you mentioned the third down struggles, and
so in your kind of assessment so far, have you
taken a look at, you know, what you all been
doing on third down and what those what could be
contributing to those struggles.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, you know a number of things, but starts with
the game planning and play calling. Like I've said, we've
got to have a good better plan in place to
execute on that down and distance, and then just consistency
and trust and being able to block the right people.
I mean, it's there's not one thing we went down
and did the breakdowns. It's just kind of a inconsistency
(03:48):
overall on that down and distance, and that's contributed to
us getting down I think early, and not being able
to score the points that you know, we've had a
chance to.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Score the season.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
He coach with Sam Cosby back, how did you see
the offensive line last week and now that you probably
have most of the pieces back there?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, I thought, you know, up and down, it's going
to take him a while to get his legs and
his win back fully. But anytime you have a player
of his caliber back in your lineup. He had some
really nice plays and some plays he'd like to have back.
But he brings a lot to our offense, his physicality,
his toughness up front, and I think the more we
play together, the more we practice together with that unit,
(04:30):
I think they'll continue to ascend and continue to play at.
Speaker 7 (04:33):
A higher level running game. Are you starting to get
what you want out of those three guys?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, they've played at a high level.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
The running backs are all contributing and kind of give
you something different as far as their skill set and
their best trait and so I think it's been a
good combination of those three guys and it'll hopefully just
get better.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
Is this your second time going against Mahomes team?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
It is?
Speaker 8 (05:03):
What have you learned about him just over his pro
career and how he's evolved?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yeah, just the competitive stamina is unbelievable. When you look
at every year he started, they've been to at least
the AFC Championship. They played in all the Sunday nights,
the Monday nights, so the tougher schedule, played all the
first play schedules, And just to be able to do
that each year and get up for those games and
have that level consistency is just incredible. I think that's
(05:28):
what I've been most impressed. Obviously, the humility, the type
of person is everybody knows, just phenomenal human being. But
just the competitive stamina each year to just saddle back
up and do it over and over and over and
playing these big games and find ways to win has
just been incredible.
Speaker 8 (05:43):
And then for you over these last seven weeks, as
you've had to adjust to guys being out and whatnot,
what has that been like and you know, has it
sort of tested you? As well.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I guess no, I think.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
It comes with the territory. I mean, it's always a
battle of attrition throughout the NFL season, and so it's
kind of how you can continued to maximize who you
have and putting them in positions to be successful. And
so we've shown some signs that we have a chance
to be a pretty good offense. I just think consistency
and being able to protect the football as hell as
back so far.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
And when you look at obviously, if Terry comes back
this week, he missed all that time in camp and
got off to maybe kind of an inconsistent start, what's
the concern. I mean, first of all, do you agree
with that? And then secondly, what's the concern with him
missing this much time that he can get up to
speed as quickly as maybe you guys need him to be.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, I think it's never easy when you have an
extended amount of time off just building the rapport with
the quarterback, any of the new wrinkles we put in
the offense, things of that nature. But I expect him
to pick back up quickly once he is out there
full time. I think being in a year or two
of the system, he at least had a pretty solid
understanding of it, and so now it's just about getting
(06:51):
his legs back and his win back and just getting
a lot more reps for the quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
And the way the year is gone because Andrew's guys
in and out. What's your I guess X pretation to
the second half the year if these guys all get
back in here or do you ever worry like is
it ever going to happen?
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:05):
No, I'm pretty glass half full type mentality, So I
expect us to continue to improve. But I just the
biggest deal to me is just the turnover margin has
been really bad, and in this league that's the number
one indicator of success, and so we have to improve there.
And then just consistency third down, if we can stay
on the field, will help. And then just play in
play out, making the routine plays. I feel like we'll
(07:25):
have some good plays and we'll string it together some
bad ones, and that's not who we've been and we
have to try to improve upon that.
