Interior architecture focuses on design and function. Good design helps people live and work better inside buildings. Poor design wastes space, increases costs, and reduces comfort. If you want to draw architecture plans that work, you must avoid common mistakes. This guide explains what to avoid and how to get things right from the start.

1. Ignoring the Purpose of the Space

Every room serves a purpose. Ignoring this purpose leads to poor layouts. A kitchen needs proper lighting, storage, and work surfaces. A bedroom needs privacy and quiet. When you draw architecture plans, always design each room to suit its function.

Tip: Write down the main use of each room before designing it. Check that every element in your drawing supports that purpose.

2. Poor Space Planning

Some plans look good on paper but do not work in real life. If furniture doesn’t fit or doors open into walkways, people can’t use the space properly. Poor space planning makes homes uncomfortable and inefficient.

Tip: Use actual furniture dimensions. Leave room for people to walk, open cupboards, and move around. Always draw architecture layouts to scale.

3. Inadequate Lighting

Lighting affects mood, function, and energy use. Relying only on ceiling lights is a mistake. You need a mix of lighting types—natural light, task lighting, and ambient light. Poor lighting makes rooms feel small and dull.

Tip: Include lighting in your early drawings. Plan window positions for daylight. Use energy-efficient lighting, and add task lights near work areas.

4. Blocking Natural Light and Airflow

Rooms need fresh air and natural light. Blocking windows or placing rooms without airflow leads to stale, dark interiors. This increases your reliance on artificial lights and ventilation.

Tip: Position windows to capture daylight and breeze. In your architecture drawings, always think about sun direction and wind flow. Use cross-ventilation where possible.
