Meet The Host: Jorge Fiscal, Owner Of Custom Copper And Zinc

Craftsmanship isn't just about skill—it's about passion, integrity, and the relentless pursuit of quality. Meet Jorge Fiscal, a master metalworker celebrating 25 years in architectural sheet metal who founded Custom Copper and Zinc after discovering traditional seaming techniques that far outperformed commercial methods.

Jorge takes us on his journey from tradesman to specialized craftsman, revealing how his business philosophy of "quality over quantity" has built a reputation strong enough to thrive on word-of-mouth alone. "There is no comparison for something that can last a lifetime," he explains, describing his approach to every project from historic renovations in Oakwood to collaborations with architects on cutting-edge designs.

Whether you're a homeowner dreaming of distinctive architectural elements, a contractor seeking reliable craftsmanship, or a designer envisioning metal accents that will endure generations, Jorge's expertise promises solutions where beauty meets durability.

Hello everyone.
I am co-host and producer, nicole Monchine, and I am right
here in the studio with JorgeFiscal, owner of Custom Copper,
and Zane.
Jorge, how are you doing today?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Well, Nicole, I'm doing well.
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
We're excited to have you.
It looks like a beautiful daywhere you're at, and I know
you've built a remarkablefollowing.
But for some listeners whomight not know a little bit more
about you, let's go ahead andkick things off from the very
beginning.
Tell us a little bit more aboutyou how you got introduced into
craftsmanship and how you gotstarted with custom copper and
zinc.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
All right.
Well, it all started like it'sgoing to be 25 years next month
since I got introduced toarchitectural sheet metal
practicing traditional seamingtechniques.
As soon as I got into learningthat, I realized that the
quality is far superior fromwhat we were doing, which was

(01:35):
basically on the commercial sideof things.
There is no comparison forsomething that can last a
lifetime.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
And what made you want to start Custom Comfort
Zeke.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
I was just impressed, amazed with seeing that there
is a better way of doing thingsand giving that quality to
people.
In my opinion, there was nocomparison and I just fell in
love with the system, differenttechniques, and it was this

(02:14):
hunting for information fordifferent situations to offer
the client a much better product.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
We love that.
Well, we know you're a busyperson, we know you have your
nine to five, but what are someof your hobbies?
What do you like to do for fun?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Well, it's up to the kids.
My child, she likes to playbadminton.
We go and explore with my sonas well.
He's 20.
My daughter is 12.
So sometimes we get to go andexplore all of the parks around
North Carolina.
We have beautiful trails, we gobike riding and basically try

(02:53):
to go have a bunch of picnics asmuch as we can in beautiful
days like this.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Are there any go-to parks that are your family's
favorites?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
It all depends on the season.
Like I said, we don't have afavorite.
We are on the hunt forexploring more and more and
every time we see we do have anactual favorite, there's always
something and all of them.
We are very lucky to have avariety of activities that the
hunt never ends, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, Like you said, we are really lucky right here
in the Research Triangle.
We're close to the beach, mountains, and right here in our
own backyard we have so manyamazing greenways and parks, and
we're really lucky here just tobe surrounded by nature.
So sounds like you're a busyfamily man, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
So while we try to, lately I've been trying to
balance that work and personallife and it's quite fulfilling.
You know, we get to have funfor work, but also when the
weekend comes, not everything iswork and family is the most
important.
We try to stay connected.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well, we know marketing is key to every
business.
So how do you like to marketcustom copper and zinc?

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Well, this is something new.
I know that the digital era.
I have to catch up with it.
I have not been very good at it.
Everything that we've beendoing it's been word of mouth.
That's how we started doingthings in historic Oakwood doing
repairs, and from then on, Iguess we are doing something

(04:26):
right and we are trying to be astransparent and truthful of the
options that the client has.
As far as some small repair orsome big improvement.
We take one client at a time.
What we do is we basically tryto offer quality instead of

(04:47):
quantity.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I definitely agree with that.
We love quality over quantity, for sure, and we know you're a
busy man, so why are you doing?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
this.
We like what we do for work, but at the same time we see a
lot of options and we try tooffer the best suitable
situation for the client.
Sometimes they call us for anew house, a new project

(05:25):
starting from zero, and we helpdesign the system.
A lot of the times it could bea repair where they have done
certain, they have worked, butthere's always I see always room
for improvement.
Sometimes they already designed.
The architects designedsomething.
They call us and I appreciatethat because we are able to put

(05:46):
our heads together and work withsomething to offer the very
best to the clients.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
And what's your favorite thing about what you do
?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
The favorite thing.
You know, it's one of thosethings that every day it's
something different.
We have to become very creative, sometimes getting ideas, and
our work is never boring.
We get to install metal but, like I said, there is, in my

(06:17):
opinion, there is always abetter approach, a better
solution, and it's never boring.
I think we love that, and ifit's your passion, then you're
never bored boring.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I think we love that, and if it's bigger passion,
then you're never bored going towork, so we love that.
Well, Jorge, thank you so muchfor joining us.
Next episode we're going totalk about frequently asked
questions and we're going todive deeper into what you do,
okay.
