Sorry to be so late today. Tuesday is the new Monday, as far as I’m concerned. And what better way to launch into the horror of hard, cold, work week than finally clicking on this article that made the rounds over the weekend. You might remember that a while ago (that’s a technical amount of time, as far as I’m concerned) Rolling Stone reported on how Chat GPT was convincing vulnerable users they were god and the Large Language Model was also god. And one might have thought, oh, that’s just Rolling Stone, out there, trying to be provocative. Well, it’s finally come to the Gray Lady herself, that august publication that wastes so much of my time. The piece over the weekend was called “They Asked an A.I. Chatbot Questions. The Answers Sent Them Spiraling.” And then, yesterday, there was a long convo (that’s also a technical word) between two people who have a podcast together. And what I liked about their chat is that, unwittingly, they acknowledge that this is crazy, and that we will certainly all come to ruin, but still, you guys, it’s fine. No one should stop making all the AIs, and no one should think about it. In fact, it would be better if we all (again, a technical amount of people) spent more time getting to know the capabilities the demons I mean bots, not less.
