He tells you the inside story of the Underwatered Death,
and right after the story, Blackstone will explain tricks that
you yourself can perform reveal the secrets of the world's
greatest living magician.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Stand by for Blackstone The Magic Detective.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Gosh went an awful day. It's so cold and muggy.
Don't you wish we were back in Bermuda Blackstone.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
I didn't know that you'd ever been down there in Blackstone. Oh, yes,
I went on a tour there several years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Remember that escape act you did?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Indeed I do rot it done.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
He did an escape act down there in Hamilton Town that.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Has a population of forty five hundred and over five
thousand people came to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
That sounds like magic in itself. It wasn't no if.
People came from all the outlying farms and districts.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
They even shut all the doors so everybody could go
and watch. Golly was exciting, but not.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
As exciting as the other time they closed the whole
town to watch the act. Roader, Well, uh, what happened then?
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Well, I'd planned a stunt where I'd be nailed into
a pecking box and lowered over the side of an
eighty foot bridge into the water.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
The box was leaded so it would sink, and he'd
had to escape from underwater.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, that sounds like quite a trick.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
It is.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Blackstone is one of the few men who's ever been
able to do it.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
But it's risky.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Well what happened plenty, I assure you. I wish to
do the stunt quite a way outside of town, and
I'd ordered the flat top truck to dive road knee
in the packing case out.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
There, but there was some mistakes.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Now look here, boys, I ordered a flat top truck.
This one's half covered. Yeah, there's a mistake, I guess, Yeah,
some kind of a mistake. You want we should drive
back to the garage and get you another truck.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
It was thinking, how we haven't time Blackstone well late
as it is, and the crowd will be getting wrestless.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Well we'll use the half covered truck this time. The
act won't be as effective, but it'll have to do.
Let's teck going, wi.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
I take that'll be best.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Than to think.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
For yes, I do, I ride in back with the
packing case. Well, let's load it on. Yeah okay, Oh
he doesn't have for it, that's it. Uh, pull a
little more of the right back okay, Uh, I think
you'll right? Okay, like that, I'm sure that she's steady enough.
Uh we better hurry back then, Yeah, up, Gay, here
we go.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Here we are, boss boy. Look at that crowd, the
whole town that turned out.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Come back here out of the way. Truck rode up right.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Uh what do I do now?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Boys, We'll get Turkey and Matt and have the nail
the box shut.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
It's too bad that the covering of the truck half
conceals the packing case, but it can't be held Turkey.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Now, Yeah we are, lady, Yeah, what do you want
we should do?
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I'm gonna go into my field.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
You nail Blackstone up into that packing box, attach the
hook of the derrick to those ropes on top, and
when I give the word, lower him into the river.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Uh huh you got it, sure, lady, we got it?
Speaker 6 (03:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I sure, hope so well the long boss, good luck?
Speaker 6 (03:58):
Thanks all right, boys, ladies and gentlemen, I want to
introduce you.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
The only magician alive who is able to escape from
a packing box under fifty feet of water.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Okay, boys, stop nailing a shut.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
If you will walk slowly by the truck, ladies and gentlemen,
you will notice that the case is being.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Nailed shut, and that they're heavy.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Weights on all sides, all side right, okay. You will
see that a hook is being attached to the case,
and that the hook itself is attached to a derrick.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Blackstone will slowly be lowered into the river. Now there
goes the derreck. Now it's lifting.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
The case higher, higher the cows.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
The box is swinging out over the river. If the
case is calling lot, he'll be drowning there.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
You can help me, come along, swep up back the
time and get the police or fire 'em.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
A quick hurry.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
Al, Hey, what's a big idea stopping here? This is
the bank, not the police station.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Yeah, it's Suiously, we figured maybe we might get some
dogs so we could pay off the coppers.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
You're hey, you're crooks.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
You're planning to hold up the bank or the whole
town's down the river watching Blackstone.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah, yeah, smart lady.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
We gotta get help Blackstone make drowned it here, don't
be murder.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
I Toarjoe. We shouldn't have brought the dame I tire up.
Take hee. You gotta make sure she didn't know some
way to get her boss out of this packing case.
We need time for this job, lady at time of
adds me. Tying you up like this hurts me terrible,
too bad, but I gotta do it.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
You take your hands off me. When Blacks don't get here,
he ain't.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Gonna get here. Lady, you got a date with some
fishes down to the bottom of the river. I got
it tied up, man, Okay, good, alright, let's get going
a little bank first. Sure, then the jewelry stores got
the pick for the locks. Sure, well, here I go.
And don't take a little time, though, we got the time.
Nobody's gonna leave the river up til they get Blackstone. Alright,
(06:29):
we'll get busy. Hey, these tendry locks are a sin
step pick. Yeah, just like taking candy from a baby.
Speaker 8 (06:38):
Yes, you use h stick 'em up, fleck Stone. Yes
it's Fleckston. All right, put up your hands now, back
away right to the truck. Keep moving, Uh a few
steps more, Hello, order Blackstone. I don't mind that right now,
I'll get their guns. Eh, that's one this jeps. Now,
(07:01):
I'll cut your hands.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Free kettle, Blackstone, keep 'em covered while you're cutting me loose.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
I am don't worry. Hey, why now here's a gun
for the roller and one plea, we'll just throw this
one away. Hey, what's the big idea? I saw that
cat away? It's a phony gun. I use him my
act turkey.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
H Let's get these guys down to the local Clint Blackstone.
There's plenty I wanna hear about.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Well, there's plenty I wanna hear about, too, Rodan.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
I was never so puzzled in my life as when
I saw a Blackstone uppere with those two slugs?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Shall I explain Rhoder?
Speaker 4 (07:49):
Oh no, I think it'd be much better to keep
him in sustain Hey, not a rad now, I was
only kidding, gun go on Blackstone.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Telling me right, a Blackstone, how did you get from
the bottom of the river and time to meet them
at the bank? I didn't, But you just sat, I said,
I didn't get from the bottom of the river. You see,
I wasn't ever there. But when the crooks dropped the case.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Oh, or didn't you see those packing cases have air
holes in him? So Blackstone can breath, And while.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
I was in the case, I looked through one of
them and saw Turkey attaching the phoney. Who well, what
made you look?
Speaker 4 (08:20):
He was suspicious because of the different trucks the thugs
had brought it so they'd have someplace to keep their swing.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I had nothing to go on at the time, so
I just thought i'd be careful. Well, what did you
do when you saw them attaching the hook? I made
my escape from the packing box before they started lifting it.
I was hiding in the truck all the time.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
And while the thugs were tying me up in front
of the bank, he was picking the lock on the
bank door and hiding inside.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
That's all it was to a done simple, isn't it? Yes?
Except for one thing? Oh what thing? Well? How did
you get out of the packing case in the first place?
That is a magician secret? Done well? Even if you
won't tell us how you did it, it's it's still
a good trick. It's third and that's the way another
mystery was solved by magic.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
That's right, a blackstone.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Have you got another trick that you could tell us?
Uh one that uh we can do? Or so? I
am sure I have And it's a very interesting one.
Speaker 9 (09:13):
Or just wait a minute while I get a deck
of cards.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Wrote, You and Blackstone certainly have amazing adventures together. Indeed
we do.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Done. It's wonderful. Working for a magician like Blackstone never
is du moment.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Of course, sometimes you're not sure you're not gonna end
up dead, but nobody can say it isn't exciting.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yeah, some day I'd like to go along too. One
of these murders happens aiming to commit Sue, is that no, no, on,
you're alive. I wanna be a silent bia standing and
once you get yourself scared to death that you're very good.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Can't day any road. It will let you see a nice,
gruesome crime.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Well, thank you, Addie. Well ready for a con trick
or a murder or whatever you happen to have on hand? Uh,
just a card trick this time done. First, I lay
my hat on the floor like this, open side up. Now, Rod,
you take card, any card, and try and drop it
into the hat.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Hey, that no trick, that's easy.
Speaker 10 (09:55):
And you try it and see hold the card, show
the high that's right, Derek, there about the hat.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Now I'll drop it, Roader.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Oh this is gonna be easy by the days of
stage is pointing right down toward the hat.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
It can't miss it, alright, drop it?
Speaker 3 (10:08):
It goes hm right right, it's missing the hat. It
it flut it away from it.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Try another one, Roder, It goes o.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
What that one miss too? I'll try another, this time
at an angle, and you.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Miss the hat? Of game? Try another?
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Oh, here goes another? Why I missed againner I, I'm
gonna try another.
Speaker 10 (10:28):
Well, you keep right on trying, Roder, and after you
use up the pack, I'll go back to show you
how easy it is.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Well, Rhoda, how are you doing with the cards and hat?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I haven't scored a hit yet. Here done?
Speaker 2 (10:47):
You try it alright, rode On, say shoulder high, pint,
straight down.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Let go and you miss the hat too. But I
got an idea.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
What's that, Roader?
Speaker 3 (10:57):
They let me have a card. I'm gonna drop it
sideways like that.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Huh. It missed too. It sprung itself right away from
the hat.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Roder.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I don't think that even Blackstone can do this trick. Well, ever,
give me a card done? Just one?
Speaker 3 (11:10):
You mean you're gonna hit the hat on the first tart?
Speaker 10 (11:12):
Absolutely I'll hold the card shoulder high, directly above the
hat like we did.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
No like this.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Why you're holding it flat with your thumb and fingers
at the.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Side level with the floor. Why that won't work? You
don't think some Just watch, I goes h it's floating
straight downly. It's wabbling. Though it's wabbling, it isn't plittering gun,
it's going straight straight down.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I mean to the hat a bull's eye.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Say that was perfect? If we try go right ahead?
Are you first roller?
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I hold the card shoulder high, lever with the floor,
and drop it by right into the hat.
Speaker 9 (11:51):
That's rod rotor. That's one trick you can't miss when
you know the simple secret. And our listeners will find
it out when they try it for themselves. I hope
you like the trick, ladies and gentlemen. And until next time,
this is Blackstone's own.
