There were thousands of people out there.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Conspective, Mike was my friend.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Whoever did kill Mike better hope that you'll find him
before I do, because if you have pleasure to bounce
a bat off his head, we don't know anything. You
told my assistant an hour ago that you remember Mike
calling Boston Blankett before the game.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yes, but Blackie boys in the home, and I don't
know what he wanted to talk to him about. Man,
I got a man out looking for Blanky. Let's get
out of facts.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yo, Dunald it's you've got any reason to believe Mike
Allen was mixed up with anything crooked.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Mike, not himnifty told was the cleanest ball.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Player in the league. He was, well, I alright, you
getting key, come on in tide here he is. It's
like Sir Washington, Blackie. I found them stooping a round
out in the grounds.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh yeah, okay, you guys sit around on those benches
over down, relax, take it, take it easy, wow, Blackie.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
So Mike Allen made a phone call to you before
the game. Huh what did he want? I don't know.
I wasn't came before the game. Where were you out?

Speaker 3 (04:43):
You're gonna be a whole lot more rout before I
get through with him. Where were you when Alan were shot?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Still in the same place by day out? Not where?
No place to take it, just out rollins, grab his arms, pas,
maybe we would get somewhere. Uh just a minute, Rowlins.
You haven't got his arm? Right it triumph better grip?
Oh good and tight? Okay, I'll do it. What now
it's better? Now I search you. That's what. Let's see

(05:09):
your cord pockets change? Hey, but clip what's that for? Ckyl?
See learn something every day unless what's this a hand checked? No,
it's a rain check for a ball game, for this
ball game too. What do you know about that? So
you are understands watching the ball game this afternoon, I'm guilty,

(05:30):
is charged? What's the penalty for that?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Our penalty you. I'll find a reason for you to
kill Allan. I'll prove you had the opportunity.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
Paraday, dear friend, Paraday, in reply to your most recent
and most ridiculous suspicions, may I say that A.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
I did not kill Mike Allan. B.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
I came to the park here today to see a
ball game and see I am going to help you
find Alan's killing.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Oh yeah, well out of my way, and you're not
leaving town? You get that? Now? What's that? A very pretty?
What's that? I'd say?

Speaker 5 (06:03):
Right here?

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Oh? Thanks you all right? I heard it with a
radio for a ballplayer?

Speaker 7 (06:09):
Was killing?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Did you think? Lady? Who are you? You inspected? Parody
of the police, And if you stay here one more minute,
you'll make you a suspect.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Now, this is my wife inspector regarding it was Mike
who was.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Oh no, well Michael, hear that Mike dead?

Speaker 8 (06:26):

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Well, I can always lay my hands, honey, wan, I
want youren. I've got all these ball players to question.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Only keep away from this ball park, hear, y, keep away?

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Okay, Now I'll run home now, but you'll need an
awfully big score book to keep the error as.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
You make before you finally strike out on this case.

Speaker 7 (07:06):
All right, Blackie, Now that I've rip my only pair
of nylons climbing over a fence to get in here,
tell me what we're doing in a ballpark at ten
o'clock in.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
The evening where I'm going to see a ball game
coming at this time? It's a night game with that
any lights? Sure o? The fire flies are playing the Mosquitoes.
Oh Blackie, please please you or please watch you?

Speaker 7 (07:28):
Tell me what we're doing here? He told me you
tell me why we were here when we do here?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Alright, we're here now?

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Why I also told you that I didn't want you
to come. Why don't you remember that I'm married my memories.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
A convenient time.

Speaker 7 (07:40):
So that's why I didn't come. We hold your flashlight?
I would, and I'm glad I came. I don't trust
you with a flashlight. You'd probably trip over something and
break your neck.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Oh me, I never tripped over anything in my pol
What were you saying? Oh? Who ever left up pictures
box in the middle of a baseball that was very
very to care or something?

Speaker 7 (08:00):
Come on back, you tell me what we're doing here.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
Alright, we're on the way to second base.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
That's it right over there.

Speaker 7 (08:09):
That's very helpful, Thank you very much. And now tell
me what's second base.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
It's what Mike Allen was sliding into when the shot
caught him in the top of the.

Speaker 7 (08:16):
Head, telling we know that, why come off, ses, I.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Wanna try something here. We are marry now.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
As I remember the game this afternoon, Mike Allen got
up to the plate, whigking his bat, moving around. He
wasn't much of a target until after he hit the
ball and slid into second base. Here then for a
moment he was still go ahead.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
That was the moment the.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Murderer was waiting for. He fired the shot that killed
Mike Faraday. Figured at the angle of the bull was
indicated that the gun was fired from the grand stand.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I wanna see if he's right. Okay, but what do
I do all this time? Well, you're the second basement.
Oh goody, you stand right there. That's right now.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
I'm gonna be Mike sliding in. I'll start the slide
from about year and here I come.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
You're owing your suit.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
Oh, not to mention what I did to my stomach.
In paradase theory, uh, very much. There are two kinds
of slides. One is the fallaway, where the runner comes
into the base feet first time.

Speaker 8 (09:19):
I mean.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
The other is where he comes sliding in on the stomach. It.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
Yeah, And here's the big difference in the fall away
the top of the slider's heads out towards the stands.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
In the stomach slide, the top of heads, it's taward.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
Yeah, let's see, it's toward the scoreboard. Mary Faraday figured
that Allan used the fallaway slide. That's natural.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Most ball players do.

Speaker 7 (09:41):
What didn't Alan?

Speaker 5 (09:42):
No, he came in on a stomach. I saw the
game today. Faraday figured the shot came from the stands. Actually,
it came from behind the scoreboard. Let's take a look
at that. Here are the steps leading into the back
of his cardboard. Mary, that's what we wanna see.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Come on, listen to calling.

Speaker 7 (10:00):
We walked up here off, then just wait till I
get my breath find beauty.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
You are, I take your own breath away?

Speaker 7 (10:07):
Fine friend, you are help me out to a ball field,
and don't even.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Throw me a ball. Catch You've got enough trouble, gotch
in your own breath? Good? Uh?

Speaker 7 (10:17):
Oh, well it's open now you can't show off pick
the loss. Okay, at least I get some conversation from that.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Mm it shouldn't be open. Now, come on, in silence,
have that.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
Flashlight right here it is and here I am the way.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
I figure it's marry.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
The murderer hit up here until he could get a
good shot at my calendar. When ill on slid he
shot it.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
But wasn't there a boy up here?

Speaker 7 (10:42):
Uh? Boy who puts the balls and strikes and outs
and everything?

Speaker 2 (10:46):
I should have been.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Yes, Yes, there was a boy here right there. He
is over there in the corner. The murderer probably knocked
him out, but he hit.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Too hard the blocky he did. I wonder the door
wasn't locked. No, sign of a little murderer might have been,
let's get out of here.

Speaker 7 (11:05):
Saturday ever finds you here with that body, you'll never.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Let you out of Jahil. What would Faraday be doing here?
What would be doing up here? I'd be following you, Blackie.
You could get a blood? How to do that? If
you do it faster and look better than you do? Ah?
I thought I told you to stay away from here, blankee. Yes,
I suppose you did.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
But you didn't tell miss Wesley to stay when I
couldn't let her come out here on escorted?

Speaker 7 (11:28):
Could I inspect you? Do you know that at first
he wanted to let me come out here alone a.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Cat es when as they don't, I have enough trouble
with Blankie, aren't you assurance?

Speaker 3 (11:38):
But oh sure, I'm sure, and I'm al so sure
that you want something to do with the murder of
Mike Allan, And I'll approve to you, Blankie.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
You're not so smart and I am not so dumb.
Now all back to Washington, Blackie.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
After Mike Allen, baseball star, is mysteriously shot while sliding
into second base, it has learned from Lefty Jones, another ballplayer,
and his wife that.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Mike had the cleanest record of any man in the
major leagues.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Boston, Blackie, Inspector Faraday's perennial suspect, has figured out that
the shot that killed Alan came from behind the baseball scoreboard.
He's investigating the scoreboard when Paraday surprises him to complicate matters.
The scoreboard boy has been found murdered. As we return
to our story is a few minutes later, Blackie, Mary Wesley,

(12:39):
and Paraday are still up behind the score.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
That's all I've got to tell you, Pal. You were
following me, so you know I didn't kill this boy.

Speaker 8 (12:48):
Here.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
All I've done so far is show you where the
shot killed Alan came from. Blackie, Why is it you
always show me something you think.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
I don't know why, Inspector, because I always have one
less suspect to look for.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
You waste too much time.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
On me, Lankie.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
I'd like to go home. Please? What are you asking
him for? I'm the one who the science. Where you're
gonna go?

Speaker 7 (13:07):
Well, where am I going to go?

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Inspect Oh take a home, lay and believe me. If
you don't stay out of this case from here and
it'll be bad news for you.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Believe me, inspector. If I do stay out of this case,
that'll be good news for the murderer. It don't look
like much of a hotel to Melanie. You gotta take
what you can get nowadays, should he? Besides, the baseball
players travel alive, and they used to once overlight the accommodations.

(13:40):
Let's go in push the revolving dogs. Shat he. I
wanna know what it's like to be a parasite.

Speaker 8 (13:46):
Okay, boss, don't look like much of a lobby either.
Nobody wrong except the porter a bye nothing yeah, whereas everybody,
how do I find out a certain room member?

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Well?

Speaker 1 (14:04):
If I want any information around here, i'd go ask
the clerk.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
There he is.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
The desk is over there in the corner. Flaky Y's
air right, Shorty, Thanks boy, that's all right, bush neat
plee and ah. What is there about me that attracts character? Shorty?
Me and me? Boys, let's just say including you.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
Oh, I beg your pardon, sir, I'd like some information, please, yes,
would you tell me what room Lefty Jones is in?

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Please? I'll have to announce you, sir, that the Jones
phone is busy with mine waiting not at all. By
the way, do many of the ball players stop here? No, sir,
not many, Only mister and missus Jones. It's from missus Jones.
What position does she play? I beg you pun Sorry?
Ain't you boys? Very say? It was a terrible thing

(14:51):
out of the ballpark today, wasn't it? Yes, it certainly was.
Mister Allen used to come here to visit the Jones
is very often. He was a great ball player. I
haven't seen him playing. No. Oh, my work here is
pretty confining, and I never did have much of an
interest in baseball. Oh, the Jones wire's pretty who might
say is called it Boston Blackie?

Speaker 5 (15:07):
Just the moment, Hello, oh, missus Jones, this is mister
French at the desk. There is a mister Boston black
here to see you.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Very well. You make a write up. The elevator is
over there itself, Service Room three twenty.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Eight, Road three twenty eighty said, that's right here, boss.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Among my many assets is the fact that I can
read numbers too, shorty, But thanks anyhow old at the
moment there, Hello, I met you, or rather saw you yesterday,
Missus Jones.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yes, I did see you yesterday, Blackie. Thanks for remembering, Oh,
this is my friend, Shorty. How do you do it?
My husband isn't home. Is there anything I can do
for you?

Speaker 5 (15:58):
That's a leading question, Missus Johns. But all I want
is some information. What do you know about Mike Awan's death?

Speaker 9 (16:05):
Only that the police thought you might have killed him.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
That's all, that's all. And now would you mind? Thank you?
Sorry I bothered you. We'll be leaving now.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Oh.

Speaker 8 (16:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
By the way, this is rather rum remote neighborhood. Will
I have any trouble getting a can? I don't have
the clerk call one for you, Franks, Yes, Joe, my friends,
I've got to talk to him.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
Now, would you mind calling a cab for my friends now?

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Please?

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Of course, I'm sorry. I thank you. You'll ever in
a supporter. I get you one, Blackie, thank you.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
I'm sorry I bothered you, Missus Jones. Oh there's one
more thing. You shouldn't expect the pir Day to get
in touch with you. Please don't mention my visit.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Here, will you? Of course? Not by Blackie. I'm I'm sorry.
I was rude when you first came in. Forget it, man, Shorty,
put down that magazine. Let's go huh.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
Oh okay, boss, what the pictures were getting awful?

Speaker 5 (17:02):
Pretty go buy Miss Jones, thank you again, and you
won't forget if the cat I was here.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
In case, it's like the fire to ask you, I.

Speaker 9 (17:08):
Won't goodbye, good bye, frenchy frenchie. Yes, those two men
leaving here, stop him and call the police immediately.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
Round four, All up, Blackie, right shoey, say what did
you think of missus Jones?

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Did y'all we just looked upstairs? Well? If yes, me
y we was he the clerk wanted the click so
much as that gun. He's all The police will be
here in a minute. He the way his hand, this's
butcher makes me nervous. Nervous enough maybe too, you do
hain't I got a boss you know? For me money?
Nice paying showy gives me time for this I clip

(17:55):
did it? He's out now show you that's you and
I get out too.

Speaker 7 (18:07):
And what mister Boston's like you were the results of
your visit is missus Jones.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
I'm not sure, Mary, I've got an idea. That's how
I telephoned.

Speaker 7 (18:15):
What he uh that's French for here got saah.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
That's Italian for thanks. You can't out of language me, lady.

Speaker 7 (18:23):
She tell me to try, wasn't it Marry You can.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Thank you quite at all. Oh this is ernest. The
portom is the fringe. I think you wanna talk to me.
What are you talking about, Aniston mster fringe.

Speaker 5 (18:41):
I was at the ball game today, got there early
on account of you gotta get there early to get
seats in the bleachers, you know, And I saw you
sneaking in the back.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Of the scoreboard. I don't know what you're talking about.
I think you do.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
In an hour, I'll be in a room that's him
undered wears down on twenty Falls Street. It might be
a good idea for you to come up and discuss
this matter, don't you think.

Speaker 7 (19:08):
Good Bye, darling, Would you mind telling me what was
the big idea of the menstrual routine?

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Well, first of all, nobody seems to have a reason
for killing Mike Allon. But the batting order of yesterday's
ball game was switched at the last minute, with Mike
batting and Lefty Jones spot.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Now suppose somebody didn't know it was switched, and.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
You only that Jones usually batted in the fourth slot.

Speaker 7 (19:31):
Well, then that's somebody wouldn't know much about baseball. All
line ups are subject to change without notice.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
And the hotel clerk I just talked to doesn't know
baseball at all. It was too far from a scoreboard
to see a player's face. And maybe he intended to
kill Jones, who usually batted Forth.

Speaker 7 (19:48):
Yes, but why would he want to kill Jones?

Speaker 5 (19:50):
I heard the talk between him and missus Jones. Why
that gal has him doing handsprings? Maybe he figured with
Jones out of their way, he could get her to
marry him. If I'm right, he'll come up to meet
me and I'll put the heat on him and turn
him over to paraday on Ice.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Thanks for letting me use your room, Shorty. When you
hear a knock on the.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
Door, it'll be the room click French, so scram out
the fire escape right.

Speaker 6 (20:24):
Well, suppose it's now knock on the door, boys, then.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
French is probably innocent. Only I wouldn't want to think
that there is Shorty jurm boss.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
I don't wanna show you, Okay, boys, I'll see jersal Man.
Is that you boss?

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Is that me?

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Boss?

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (20:41):
It's me Faradaya Blankie. What are you doing here? I
could ask you that question with better reason.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Believe me, I get it, Blankie. Now you're adding blackmail
to your other activities. You called French and gave him
some story about seeing him go behind the scoreboard yesterday. Huh,
And he called you and told you that. Of course,
Well he said the hotel porter called him. Now what's
that all about? That was me playing hotel porter Friday.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
I think I've got something, yeah, and I've got guilt,
which is nothing.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
Listen, Uh, I think French shot my calendar, yah, thinking
he was killing Lefty Jones, and that he still thinks.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
The porter did see him at the ballpark.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
Look, he could never stop me from telling what I knew.
If I were the porter and did seem good, he so,
so he told the story to you, knowing if he
did no matter what I said from there on and
he'd be in the clear.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Saturday. I hate to ask for favors, but well this
time I'm gonna. Uh.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
This time, you've gotta ask for favors. I got a
gun in my pocket I'll use in a minute if
you get tough.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Here's your gun. I took that out of your pocket
right after you came in here. What. Yeah, take it
as heavy.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
I listened to me pardying, give me one more chance
to prove the French is the man we want. One
chance in one hour.

it's you this time.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
Huh, all right, turn on the light. We don't need
no light balls. It's busted in the first place. Besides,
I can feel money. I don't have to see the
