tells you the inside story of the Knife from the Dark.
Right after the story, Blackstone will show you tricks that

world's greatest living magician. Now stand by for Blackstone, the

(00:50):
Magic Detective.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Rot stand back there against that panel. That's right and
now done. If you'll turn the lights off. What are
you going to do, Blackstone?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
You're gonna throw knives at me in the dark?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
What? Oh? Come now, Blackstone?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Nobody can be sure enough of their aim to throw
knives at someone, and they pitch Blackness.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Oh you do it all right?

Speaker 1 (01:14):
I hope why it's suicide, murder or something. I turned
the lights off down please all right? I think this
sort of makes me an accessory before the crime or something.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Now for the first knive? You ready, Rohoda?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Ready?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
One? Two, three, and another and another? Stop you nervous?

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Done?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Of course I am? Are you all right?

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Turn on the light and see for yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Great Scott Blackstone, those knives you threw within a quarter
of an inch would be the side of Rhoda's neck.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Why you could have killed her. If your aim had
been just a hair's breadth wrong and you might have
been killed.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, like Lwan, Nita was who was I need.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
A Blackstorm's last assistant.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
No, don well, I need it was a partner in
a knife throwing act at the Rio Rita, a night
club here in town.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Oh, I've heard of that place. Didn't it close rather suddenly?
It certainly didn't. Ruda and I were there that night.
We were sitting in the audience waiting for the knight
throwing act to go on. Of course we didn't know
what was going on.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
Back Jannita, you're my wife, and I want you to
remember it. Stop playing around with Lafarge.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Oh, you're crazy. I never even looked at the guy
except in the business way. He owns this cafe. Don't
forget that.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
I'll handle all the business dealings for this team.

Speaker 7 (02:38):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
I'm sick and tired of your insane jealousy, Carmelo. I'll
see who I want to see and do what I
want to do. You're forcing me to play around with
Lafarge with your accusations.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
That's a good one. I suppose I don't clerk with
them every cant you get?

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Oh, you wouldn't even believe me if I told you.
But Lafarge asked me to go away with him, and
I refused.

Speaker 6 (02:53):
Fact chance of that being true.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
I didn't think you'd believe me.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
You'll lay off him, or I'll kill you and him too.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
I swear I would fighting you to Janita and I
are finishing out our weekndend. We're quitting.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I won't have you fooling around with my wife. We'll
discuss this, lad there's your cue. Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
It gives me great pleasure to present the one and
only Carmo.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
We could have played here for six months. It's the
best spot we've had in years, and you know it.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
We're on hurry.

Speaker 7 (03:27):
Only Carmo the miraculous knife thrower, and he's lovely one eter.
Armo is the only Knight tourer in the world.

Speaker 8 (03:48):
We will throw knives in the dark.

Speaker 7 (03:51):
Banita will stand over there to the right of the
stage against that mammoth checker board, and Karmo will, out.

Speaker 9 (03:58):
Of the darkness, throw knives at her. See the knives
he holds in his hand, he his wing death. If
not aim correctly.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
In honor that you will be able to see the
knives that they hit the board. We have arranged colored
light to flicker over the lovely one meter.

Speaker 9 (04:17):
Are you ready, camel place, turn out the light and
now out of the darkness, the knives will start flying.
Parma was winding up the row there and now another,

(04:40):
and now another and again.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
The night turn on the night. She's dead. Look that
last time is in her heart. Nice kild her stopping.
Stop Carmo, he did it, he killed her. You I'll
get you this.

Speaker 7 (05:01):
How the police someone.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
He had to shoot Carmel and self defense.

Speaker 8 (05:07):
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry for what has happened. You
all saw how I had to shoot this poor man
in self defense. We're calling the police. If you will
take your seat for a few moments.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
I want to see that board bye, certainly, but I
don't see road up on the stage, really, mister black staylopage.
I want to test that board now that your men
have carried away poor Jana. I want to put Rhoda
against the board, but do as I say. Rhoda Lepage
standing here by me, certainly, but I don't. I'm going
to complete the act that Carmo started, but with the

(05:42):
lights on, and I am going to use no knives?

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Is this right?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Shall I stand between the knives that are already here?

Speaker 2 (05:48):
That's right? Ruda. Now I will wind up as though
I were going to throw a knife, I let it
fly and and again get him. Get Lepage Lapage. You
killed one eater. You killed Carmo so he couldn't testify
that his act was a phony. And pin the murder

(06:10):
on you.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
You've got to explain, like stone, how could you throw
knives without throwing knives?

Speaker 2 (06:25):
What did Lafarge? Why did Lafarge murder one? Either?

Speaker 5 (06:28):
When Juanita told Camo that she refused to go away
with Lefage, she was telling the truth.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Lafarge killed her.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
Because of her refusal and the knife throwing an old
magician's trick. That checkerboard was double and the and inside
of it were dozens of knives. They were all time
to fall through slits in the board and look as
though they'd been thrown, but.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
They really weren't.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
No, there isn't anyone in the world who would dare
thrown knives in the dark at a living person. The
flickering lights playing on the girl only served to confuse
any aim more than ever.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
And you knew that, Yes I did, Domb Karma would
have said that the act was a fake if the
farce hadn't killed him. The farest threw that knife out
of the darkness, and everyone assumed that it was Karmo.
He alone knew that it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
That almost was a perfect crime. Wasn't a blackstorm? Almost?

Speaker 3 (07:14):
But Blackstone knew too much about magic, and that act
certainly seems like magic, doesn't its certainly does Blackstone.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
So you solve another mystery by magic.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
That's right downb Well. I see you have a couple
of hats on the table. Will it be a trick
that our listeners can do?

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Absolutely, because all they need beside the hats are some
wads of.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Paper like those lying between the hats.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
That's right, Rhode. First, I pick up two wads of paper.
Each represents the thief, and.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
What a hats represents the hats are barns where the
thieves intend to hide. I drop one thief in a
barn on the right, another in the barn on the left.
That's fair enough. What are those two other wads of
paper on the table the other sheep? Exactly five of them, Domb,
not two five? Now the thieves begin to steal the
sheep by calling.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Them into the barn. Now watch how I put the
five sheep in the barn. You count the left rhoda.
While done, you count the right.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
One on the left, one on the right, one on
the left, one on the.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Right, one on the left, and all five sheep are
in the barn. Now, just about this time the thieves here,
the farmer coming.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
What do they do about that?

Speaker 1 (08:23):
They chased the sheep out again. Count the paper words
as I take them from the hat, one from the.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Left, one from the right, the left, one from the right,
from the left, there are the five sheep loose again.
So the farmer went away, and did the thieves call
the sheep back? They did, right into the barn. Here
they go. So count them as I put them in
the hats, one on the left, one on the right,
one on the left, one on the right, one on
the left.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
So there we are again, each thief in the barn
with a few stolen sheep. But this time the farmer
came around and looked.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Into the barn.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
And I suppose he found the thieves the stolen sheep.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
No he didn't.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
In one barn, he found only the two thieves hide
you look in.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Your hat while there's only two words of paper. What
became of the sheep? They're over in the other barn, Rota,
all of them? Look in your hat? Didn't you find
the five sheep all in one had That's impossible, impossible,
but there it is. And if you can't figure it out, Rhoda,
I'll be back later to explain.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
Now, Blackstone, will you please tell us how the thieves
arrived in one barn and the sheep and the other.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Well, it's very simple when you know how to do it, Rhoda.
First we have seven words of paper, two.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
For thieves and five for sheep. That's right. Now, we
put one word in each hat to stand for a
thief in each barn.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Yes, then you get it.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Eight.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Here goes five wads of paper, one in the left,
one in the right, one in the left, one in
the right, one in the left.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Then you took them out and put them on the
table again. That was when the thieves heard the farmer coming.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Exactly. But in taking the wads from the hats, I
started with the hat on the left. Is that important?
Very important? What's what happens?

Speaker 5 (10:24):
One from the right, one from the left, one from
the right, one from the left, one from.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
The right, and all five sheep are loose again, but.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Not the same five words of paper roder.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
This time, I'm going to let you look in the
hats and see how matters Tand there should be a thief.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
In each barn.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Why no, there are two words of paper in my head.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
There's none in mine. How's that because we are using
an odd number. And I put them back, starting from
the right instead of the left. But I picked them
up again the way I did it.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
First half on the left, one in the hat, on
the right, the one on the right. And there you
have them.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Two words of paper in your hat, done the two thieves,
and five in your hat.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Rhoda to five sheep. And there is the answer to
the mystery.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
If our listeners try it, they will find it works
as easily for them as it did for me.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
I hope you like that trick, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
And until next time, this is Blackstone saying good magic
Black time.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
On the world's greatest living magician.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Blackstone tells us the story of Death in the Crystal
and explains more tricks that you yourself can perform. Listen
in again to Blackstone, the world's greatest living magician,
