Speaker 1 (00:00):
Doc Rock Smith Mountain Lake. We are your feel good station.
It's a happy Friday morning. And of course you know
we're always about feeling good here around Doc Rock and
that's why this next lady is just the perfect guest
for us. We've got Jaybond from Japon, Bishop Mercantile with
us this morning. Good morning, Good morning, guys.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
How are y'all doing?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
We're doing great? But you know, to get you to
slow down? Uh, to even get you you you roll
all the time?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, I do. I don't know how to start. I
don't how to slow down.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Well, you don't. You don't want to slow down. This
is a busy time for you. You've had a great
season here at the Lake and uh, I'm super proud
of you. Uh. Now we've got back to school coming up.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yes, we sure do. Today start tax free weekend in Virginia.
They actually didn't do it last year at the same
time they like knock annun stitch like later in the season,
so we're prepared this year.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Well, they missed it in the budget. Now it's there's
a new bill out there that is that's a permanent thing.
Now we won't be missing it anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
So it's so helpful to a small business. You know,
it's awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Well, sure it is, and it's helpful to the parents
as well. Now you've got several things that you're doing
for your back to school bash. Let's talk a little
bit about that.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yes, so it all actually starts today with actually Tack
three weekend, so we're promoting that. Of course, tomorrow we
are moving into having a fundraiser, which we'll circle back
to you in a second, and then on which is
also tax free weeks, and then Sunday in tax free weekend,
but that's when we're going to hold our back to
School bash, which is going to include us. We have
(01:44):
a patch bar now, so we're doing backpacks, lunch boxes,
and pencil pouches. If you purchase all three, you get
ten dollars off your total. But the kids are loving
coming in and putting patches on these items, uh huh,
so they can really personalize those. So that's happening on Sunday,
and then we're promoting our Game Day hat Trucker hat
(02:06):
bar as well, So some days it's going to be Yes,
we're hopey. That's the mercantile. We have lots of Virginia
Tech stuff we do. We did a little bit of
Eava and we even have from Tennessee and all the things.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, so you don't have to be you don't have
to be a techie. Now do you have doll Do
you have like local schools and things or is it
primary college or so we do.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Have college because those are the easiest actual like logos
to access the stars like the now I do have.
Now these are going to be all to school head
and warn everybody. I do have some things that are
for local high schools en route. They may or may
not make it for Sunday. I'm hoping that they will,
but they are specific to each high school. So we've
got you know, Stanton River, Liberty High School, Franklin County,
(02:54):
all the schools that are surrounding our area. And they
will have their specific name of their.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Math Scott And then you know, this is the closest
thing I've seen to bling on a hat.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Oh for sure, absoletely you can decorate this thing up.
It's the attack.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
You're the better, well, I mean those of us who
are moms. You know, when moms are attending the ball games,
they got to represent.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
So absolutely, you know we've got football mom and we're
trying to, you know, make sure everybody's set for their
game day hat.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Nice. All right, let's talk a little bit now that
we're you know, since we're talking about fall, because football
season is a bonus. How are you transitioning into fall
at Japon Mercantile.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yes, it's interesting because last year was our very first
year as far as in our larger space, and so
even this year we have an even larger space now,
so trying to figure out what we need to carry it.
It's difficult at the lake because we still have the
warm weather. People are still coming in to visit and
they are still looking for those clothes that are resort
(03:57):
weare and whatnot, which is sort of an offfias. And
so this year we've decided, all right, we're going to
bring in the fall pieces a lot earlier than we
did last year, meaning we're going to transition slowly into
with color and with just thinking about pieces that are
still going to be good for warm weather, because we
realize it could be warm through November here. You just
(04:20):
ever know. But you have to dress appropriately for the season.
So you're going to start seeing a lot of like
olive greens and a little bit more of your fall
oranges and just some more neutral colors that are still
fun berries, and then things that are maybe three quarter
weeks please, or something that you look at and think, oh,
(04:40):
I could probably wear that all year if I layered
it correctly. Right, So a little bit further away from
like your bright florals, which we do plan to keep
in a resort wear section throughout the whole year so
that the person that expects that when they come in
it's still there for them if they have a trip
to go on.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Well, layering pieces are really important, and especially you know,
in this part of Virginia, so that makes a lot
of sense.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Absolutely, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Let's talk a little bit about a fundraiser that you
have coming up for the Renoke Cattle Barons Ball.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
What's that about, right, Yes, we're so excited. So first
of all, we're really excited because we actually saw that
the patch bar could be a really good fundraising piece
for the community. So just putting that out there, we
are really happy to partner with anybody who needs to
raise funds for such a thing as the Reno Cattle
Barons Ball. They are an organization that apparently started in Texas.
(05:34):
I'm just learning a lot about the organization itself, but
they're tied to the American Cancer Society. So basically Reno
Cattle Barons Ball. They hold this actual ball in Finncastle
in October. They've done this for many years now. And
what we're going to do is have folks that come
out this Saturday to our store. Fifteen percent of anything
(05:56):
they buy from the Patch bar, whether it be the hat,
the bag, any patches, if they just buy patches themselves,
fifteen percent will be donated back to the Renote Cattle
Barons Ball, which in turn is for the American Cancer Society.
And it's a pretty big deals. Everybody wants to check
out their website. It's pretty amazing what they've done and
what they've raised over the years. We're not really happy
(06:17):
they asked us to be.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
A part of it, I guess. So, well, let's tell
folks exactly where you are when you're open, how they
can find out more about you.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yes, that sounds great. So we are in Bedford County,
just before you cross over Bridgewater into Franklin County, across
the bridge, so one six four eight three Menita Rogue,
we're right beside Vinnie's there. At the Dunton Lake. We
are open every day except for Mondays. This weekend you'll
find this Friday, Saturday, Sunday we're open ten to six.
(06:51):
Sunday will be ten to four and we will look
forward to seeing you guys for tax free weekend, our fundraiser.
We also have a coffee cart coming in on Saturday
and that will serve all sorts of yummy drinks. And
then on Sunday we're going to have the back to
School Bash, so we hope to see everybody.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Wonderful Japon from Japon, Bishop Mercantile. You'll find them right
under the giant Doc Rock billboard.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
