Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it is Doghouse Sports on the iHeartRadio app.
My name is Elvis. That is number sixty three, former
forty nine er and Super Bowl chap Derek dee'es.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
How are you, my friend?

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Y know what's going on?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I'm doing good, good, good good.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
We do not have our producer Danny Diez tonight because
he just had his eighth kid, right, is that what
it was? It was a seven or eight he was sixteen,
but maybe no. Danny had his second baby.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
We wish him.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Well.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Wow, we just watched a hell of a game there.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
I mean, we're sitting here on a Thursday night and
we just watched the college football playoff Notre Dame and
Penn State.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
An exciting game.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Growing up in southern California, like you did, you went
to USC, so did my father. A grew up Trojan fan.
I basically hated the fighting Irish, but I did think
they were going to win this game. What were your
thoughts on the game?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
I thought the game was actually played really well on
both sides. Few as stakes. We're probably gonna win the game.
It came down to the very end. You know, Penn
State had a chance to make their final drive and
they didn't and through an interception at the wrong time. Right, So.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
The quarterback of Penn State through three interceptions all season,
he had two tonight and that was the maker.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Well, and sometimes you gotta wonder, man, sometimes the game
becomes bigger than what people think in their heads. And
and maybe that's the case for him, but it's it's
a learned situation, right, it's a learned experience. Hopefully he
can carry carry it forward and something else and and
blow up something, blow up big when it's time, you know,
maybe in the pros or so forth, or maybe even

(01:43):
next season. But here, here's what you got to look at. Right,
Hopefully he's not taking it and saying it's just his
fault either, because there's other plays in that game that
could have been prevented, whether it was on the defensive side,
or plays on the offensive side that could have been
done back, or even the you know, play calling in
certain situations. Right, it's always about the whole team and

(02:07):
everybody doing what the best that they could. And you
know what, his one play doesn't lose it for him, right.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
They still had a fantastic season to finish thirteen and three.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
I'm just amazed that Notre Dame lost in Northern Illinois
earlier in the season and had to win the rest
of these games. That's a really good team top to bottom.
Now they're going to play the winner of the game
on Friday, which is of course Texas and Ohio State.
Who you got in that one. I think Ohio State
is really rolling right now. I'd love to see Texas win,

(02:40):
but I definitely think that Ohio State is just on
fire right now.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, I'm going to Texas.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Okay, good, good, I want Texas to win.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
I'm just saying I'm going to Texas. You know, the
head coach, it's my guy, you know, Sorry, can't. I
can't go against him, right And I don't even like
Ohio State either, So.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
I hate both those teams.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
You're an SC guy, you can't like neither one, so.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Either team, And that's why it's like, please at least
one of them don't get in. You know, I'd love
to see Texas when I agree with you, I think
so Sarka is just a innovative play caller, and it's
Texas's time we'll see. I wonder if arch Manny's gonna play.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
He probably gets a couple of plays.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, a hundred percent.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Okay, let's get into some NFL because Derek's in southern California.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
I am in.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Las Vegas, and there has been a lot of movement
here for the Raiders. Just the other day, Mark Davis,
Uh fire you know what was so screwed about this?
Mark Davis? Let ap address the media on Monday and
then fired him on Tuesday. That is a week move,
isn't it. I mean that, come on, you know you

(03:49):
were gonna fire him?

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, it should should have been handled right after the game.
I think that would have been the best way to
handle it. And then he could have handled you know,
because after the game, obviously he his own press conference there,
and then they could have just done it right after
that and it would have been a done deal. He
would have to show up the next day and and
have to go through that and then be embarrassed, you know,

(04:11):
the way the way he was. But what was interesting though,
is that, Uh, I think everybody thought the GM was safe.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, right, talk to let's go. Let know today was
that today or yesterday? I think it was it was today?
It was today. She was a go today.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
The thing that that was interesting about that was And
I had told you before that I thought I thought
Paris was a sitting duck when they didn't let him
get a quarterback. Yeah, when they didn't they didn't trade
trade away everything they needed to you to get a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Knowing that Daniels Ryder who.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Winged that that the draft for twenty twenty four was
quarterback draft, by the way, And yeah, you may have
one or two in this quarter in this in this draft,
but last year was really last year. Last year was
a hit, and you could have you could have got
a couple of a couple the guys, you know, three guys,
four guys right away. And I know that Pierce wanted

(05:06):
one a Jade Daniels.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Right because for him in in Arizona State.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
And Tesco said no, he said, I'm not shoting anything.
I'm not gonna do it, and and and he got
he got angry. I think they had to hold him
back because he was saying, hey, you're making me a
sitting duck.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Right And Tom, Tom Telesco was such a bad GM
for the Chargers in twenty four seasons.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Is a GM in this league. He's got two winning seasons, not.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
The same it's his fault, but his Okay, I agree,
his drafts have been horrible outside of a Justin Herbert
falling in his lap, outside of Derwin James being there
at the end of the first round when when he
got drafted. Tom Telesco is a terrible GM and when
it happened, what he what he when he hired him?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I'm like, what is Mark Davis doing? He's the worst?

Speaker 1 (05:55):
And it came down to He's got one season, AP's
got one season and this will now be the sixth
coach in ten or eleven years that Mark Davis has
hired or supposedly. What I'm hoping and I'm not a
raider event, don't get me wrong here, but what I'm
hoping for that brand and that that franchise is that
Tom Brady is making all these moves. You know, I

(06:17):
think Brady is super involved in this. I think that possibly,
let me know what you think of this. They've got
their sights on a coach already, they already know who
they want to hire, and that coach said I want
no part of Tom Telesco.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Do you think that kind of thing happens?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Oh, without a doubt. You got to bring in you
got to bring in a coach and a GM. Now
we can work together. And usually if you keep one
or the other, the one that you keep is the
one that helps pick the other.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Right, So if you keep the GM, the GM is
going to pick the coach that he thinks he can
work with. If you keep the coach, then the coach
is going to help pick the GM that he thinks
he can work with.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Right.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
And so if you look at you know how that
how those relationships can work really well. I would look
at I would look at the Niners with John Lynch
and Kyle Shanahan, two friends definitely on the same page.
I agree with each other package deal. One guy gets extended,

(07:18):
the other guy gets extended. So I mean it has
to work that way. They feel comfortable with each other.
They never worry about what the other is going to
say about the other person. They don't feel like there's
any stabbing in the back going on and those kind
of things. They feel like these you know, you got
my back, I got yours. I think when when it
comes to the Raiders, I think what you're going to
have a problem with is Pierce wasn't there long enough

(07:40):
to really make a difference. That's the first thing. The
second thing is is whoever you bring in I believe
in in the way that the system works for football.
I believe you have to give a coach at least
three to four years to make.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
A change, right.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
You can't bring him in and say, yeah, I want
them to change right now. Now. Is it possible to
change right now? It is, It's very much possible. Sometimes
it happens where you get put into a division that's
never seen your offense, and so that the defensive coordinators
struggle with you or they haven't seen your defense, and
the offensive coordinators struggle with you, and your team is

(08:19):
able to become successful. But guess what, those teams adjust
really well the second year. And if you don't have
the players that worked with that scheme, you need to
have great players also to make the same scheme actually
work even better. And that's what makes it consistent, right,
And so if you don't have enough time to get

(08:39):
those players in, then what happens is your team never
never actually gets to full strength. And so and so
you know, bringing in pairs for you know, interim coach
and then hire them for one year and now getting
ready to like it doesn't do you any good. You
just hurt your team, is what you did. You hurt

(08:59):
your team when you when you lost your receiver because
you didn't have a quarterback, right. You hurt your team
when a lot of guys got hurt. And you can't
predict the injury injuries part of the game. But when
a lot of guys got hurt, some still stuck it
out and tried to play, and then some said, you
know what, hey, we're out of it. I'm just gonna
get the surgery now, Max Cross those guys and those
guys some of those guys went out by the way.
Oh yeah, so you're not helping.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I think the best move is the Raiders, no matter
who they bring in. We'll get to who you think
what you think they should do as far as head coach,
but they should just trade Crosby. Get what you can
for him. He's They're not going to go anywhere in
the next three to five years in my opinion. You know,
I think you've got a top two or three defensive
end in the NFL, and Max Crosby you could get

(09:43):
for a LAF. You could get a first round pick
or at least a second round pick for him, it's
time to just turn that roster over. Let me let
me ask you this. So there's so much floating around here.
Good buddy, Mine Q Myers. He runs a Raider Nation
radio from the Bay Area. Actually worked worked at Wild
ninety four nine and promotions back in the day. And
he also does a show called Unnecessary Roughness. He's also

(10:05):
does Game Night on ESPN at night. He and he
said this the other day, he said, do you think
it's a better idea? He asked the question, is it
better to go with an established coach who's won in
the NFL or to go with one of these hot
coordinators who have never coached before. What is your take
on that, like at Ben Johnson or Liam Cohen at

(10:27):
Tampa Bay or what of these other hot coordinator names,
or maybe E.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
McLean Cliffe Kingsbury.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Is it better to go with a team that is
or franchise it is in such it's so dysfunctional the
Raiders are. What's your thoughts on going with an established coach,
say a Pete Carroll or somebody who's won in the
league or won a Super Bowl. Is it better to
go with that person to create a culture or is
it better to go with a hot coordinator to you know,

(10:55):
bring in this great offense or something like that that'll
make a difference very quickly.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Well, it depends on what you're looking for and where
your team is adjusted to. Right, So if your team
is a team that has probably a better defense right now,
then then you definitely don't want to trade those guys
away if you're bringing in a coach and you just
have to be able to pick a defensive coach at
that point, right if your team is struggling on the
offensive side and you're gonna say, hey, look, I'm going

(11:21):
to bring in an offensive guy, well then yeah, maybe
you start trading away some of the defensive guys that
are older, get stuff, get value for him, build the offense,
and at least give your your coach whoever you're bringing in,
an opportunity to be strong on whatever side he's on.
So if he's on the offensive side, he needs all
stronger offense. If he's on defense side, you bring his

(11:41):
stronger defense. The other thing is what are you trying
to come in and do? All? Right, Like, what what
are you trying? What? What do you want them to
come in and do? So there's a lot of There's
a lot of things that you can say about coordinators, right,
Some coordinat are just meant to be coordinators, and others

(12:02):
can actually come in and be head coaches. You can't
find that out until you actually give that guy a chot, right,
So are you willing to take that chance? Maybe you are.
The problem is is if you take a chance on
a coordinator and the coordinator doesn't pan out for you,
you've just put your your yourself in a deeper hole
because you fired a coach that you didn't give a chance.

(12:24):
You got a coordinator that whenever I had been a
head coach, and he doesn't pan out either. So now
you're double you're doubling down on it.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Right right?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
No, I I and plus the Raiders don't have a
freaking quarterback. That's still a question mark for this organization.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
That's a big question mark. And I don't know if
you have a guy that can be a a holdover
for one or two years, you know, I don't. I
don't know if you say that's a that's an Aaron
Rodgers type of gig, you know what I mean? Like,
I don't see.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
That or or our cousins.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
I don't. I just don't see you paying him that
kind of money to be that guy and messing up
the rest of your your your roster.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Well, now it's now they've got you know, they're they're
gonna bring in a new GM, so you know, hopefully
he can you know, draft the best quarterback available. I
don't overdraft at number six, that's for sure. But maybe
later in the first round, trade up, get into there
and take a Jackson Dart from Old Miss formerly of
the US he Trojans, Take a Nuts Smuyer from LSU,

(13:27):
somebody like that who has shown in college they can
win and they can perform, but it's gonna take time.
That's why if you take a coordinator that's like an
offensive minded one, like a Kingsbury, like a Ben Johnson
on Detroit, then you take that coordinator and he can
mold that quarterback and and develop him. I think that's
the way they go.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
I don't think bringing in a Pete Carroll or a
Mike Vrabel's a hot name here, that's for sure, Mike Vrabel.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
And he's a pretty guy. I mean, look, that's the
name you can talk about, right, I think, I think
when you want to start talking about other coordinators though,
And here's the thing. If I'm looking at who I'm
bringing into that staff period, I think I think they
have to follow what's happened in Detroit. Maybe you don't.

(14:19):
If you're going to bring in very Brow, that's fine,
but he needs to bring in other players to coach
all those positions that have played. I think I think
they have more respect for those guys. I think they
understand those guys. Guys have a It's different from when
you get it from a guy that's done it versus
a guy who hasn't and who has learned it, and

(14:40):
and so you're willing to go far more out right.
And and that's what's happened in Detroit. I think that
you're going to see that start to happen in other places.
I think you have to look at you know, I
don't know if you look at a at a guy
that's just been released to come in though, you know

(15:02):
what I'm saying, Like a guy who's just just been
released this year, you know what I'm saying. Like and
I mean during the season, right, like like Salah right,
you know, I don't know if you look at him.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
His name, his name is Bandy around here too in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Well, it's also it's also he just interviewed for a
DC job at the Niners. So I think back there,
I think I think he goes back there. I think
that's a good fit. And that's not to say that
he's not a coach by the way. I think he
went to his organization that was was just difficult and
it was going to be hard to turn around and
uh and and what happened down there just it wasn't

(15:40):
his fault. I mean, that's a that's a bad situation.
Whoever takes that job is going to have a bad situation.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
I think a great call would would be for Brady
because he's friends with for Abel. I think Brabel's going
to New England bringing Mike for Abel is your eh C.
And then go after a Justin Fields who's sitting on
the bench in Pittsburgh unless they don't want to get
rid of him. But I think that right there is
a step towards you know that that quarterback can actually
play in the league. Sure he's got some issues with

(16:06):
accuracy and things like that, but he's played played pretty
well in the in the NFL. And bringing to Mike Rable,
who can attract a really good offensive coordinator. I think
that might be a decent move for them. I mean,
it's it's way better than.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yeah. But yeah, I make sure the system is gonna
fit the quarterback. Great greed, it's not the other way around.
It's not the quarterback fits the system. It's not. The
system's got to fit the quarterback. Whoever you bring in,
they've got to know that Phil's is not a guy
that you can make a pocket quarterback. He's got to
be able to get outside of the pocket. He's got
to be able to run. He's got to be able
to run and throw. That's correct, It's just not gonna happen.

(16:45):
He's got to be able to get out and do
things and throw on the run, those kind of things.
That's what's where you've seen him be the best. Yeah, total,
And so I can see that happening. I can see
that going. The problem is is now you've had You've
got guys that are gonna leave. Right. You lost your
best receiver, right, you gotta find you gotta find another one. Yeah,
and your draft has got to be almost perfect.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Yeah, and they're their running back situation is awful. Letting
Josh Jacobs go.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
To Jacobs, go correct, you have to.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Go to Green Bay and he's having fifteen hundred yards.
So you've got Madison and you got a merrors whatever.
I mean that they had I think the worst or
top you know, the twenty eighth running game in the league.
This year, it's just been a nightmare. I I think,
you know, I think that the Raiders are two or
three years away from even being relevant again. All right,

(17:35):
let's look at the other games this weekend, because tonight
or this is Thursday night, we're recording the show we
had Notre Dame Penn State, by the way, Notre Dame,
who don't know they beat Penn State in Nidnellions. Then
tomorrow is OSU and Texas, and then NFL All Weekend,
which is awesome, and then a game on Monday night
as well. First game coming up is the uh Los

(17:57):
Angeles Chargers taking on the Texans Chargers, eighth three point
favorite on the road in Houston. I really like Harbaugh
and Justin Herbert's uh uh, you know, their their expectation
here is that they come out and you know, Harbaugh's
a winner. You know, he was former coach obviously a
Notre of the Niners coached Michigan to a national championship. Recently,

(18:19):
he's won everywhere he's gone, from USC Stanford. I think
they win handily against Texans. What do you think?

Speaker 3 (18:26):
I don't know, man, you gotta you gotta look at
a couple of things. One is Houston's playing at home.
Two is that defense can can show up, and when
it shows up, it can show out. Yeah. So so
if that defense shows up, I don't think you can
say it as easily as you want it to be.
I think it's gonna be a good game. I'm excited
to see what happens with it. I do believe Harball

(18:48):
gets those guys turned around. We said that when he
first got hired, right, They were like, it's gonna take
him a couple of years. I said, no, it's not.
You said that, because you get you get, you have
to get on his wagon right away. Otherwise you get
off of it right away and he brings in somebody else.
And so those guys jumped on that ship and and
then they did what they were supposed to do. He
made sure of it. And he's not gonna do anything

(19:10):
but get better. He's not gonna it's not gonna go backwards.
It doesn't matter. Whether you get hurt, doesn't matter. Somebody
else has got to step up. And if you're not
the guy to step up, he will replace you right away.
To get somebody to replaced, I mean to step up.
So what about.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
What about c J. Stroud. He's had a bit of
a sophomore.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Slow he has had that, he lost take down, he
lost Toefon Diggs. He's got Nico Collins in, a couple
of guys that were in the practice squad. I think
that is going to play into this because the Chargers
drafted really well last season, getting a couple of really
good defensive backs.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Eli Apple.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
I know Eli Apple, but he's coming off the injured
list too. I think they they've got a really good
shot to beat Houston and move on to the next round.
I like the Chargers.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
I just think. I just think if that defense shows
up for you, and it's gonna be a different game
once again. Once again, the saying has never changed and
it never will. Look. Offense wins games, defense wins championships.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
You're into a small game that that could. You know,
your offense isn't really that great, but your defense is superb.
Guess what, You're probably gonna win that game.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah, totally.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
The second game on Saturday, Uh, Steelers at the Ravens
Baltimore is a nine and a half point favorite. Russell
Wilson has not performed these last four or five games.
I don't know if he's he as her quarterback for
that team. What are your thoughts on Steelers at the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Well, you know, Pittsburgh's in a playoff stuff, right, wow?

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:41):
What if they won like eighty plus games regular season
games without a playoff win.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Without a playoff win, they get Yeah, they get there.
They can't get by, you know, and so at some point,
at some point though, right, if you keep betting on
the on the Steelers to win that playoff game, you're
going to be right now. The question is now you
will be right at some point. It's just it's gonna happen.

(21:07):
It's whether or not you're around to see it. So
that could be a problem. The thing is is I
think in a game like this, with the stat that
we just announced, with the Steelers now having a playoff win, right,
I think I think sometimes you got teams like the
Ravens that overlooked that and they say, like.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
But the Steelers have been Lamar Jackson's kryptonite up until correct,
up until recently.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
They just beat the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Yeah, and could and could and could be again, is
what I'm saying. So I think, you know, they have
to look at it for what it's worth, like, oh, yeah,
well they beat us, but you know what, who cares
we beat them? We're ready to go. Oh and it's
the playoffs. Now, they never win a playoff game, so
don't worry about it. And that's and that's where you
get yourself in trouble, got it. And that's exactly where
you get yourself in trouble. So I mean, and look,

(21:59):
Mike Thomas, my dude, right, I got it, I got it,
I got I got I gotta go with the Steelers
on that game again.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Do you think if Russell Wilson struggles for a staff
they bring in Justin Fields.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
I hope they make changes quick.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
I think his first quarter, if he's not performing, if
he's not scoring, I think they're bringing Justin Fields a
whole new dynamic at the quarterback position for the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
And plus they got TJ.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Watt and they got who's who's that other defensive end
that's just a badass. Oh, he's just Those guys can
get after the quarterback. And I think, well, but then
you've got Lamar Jackson who can get away from anybody.
The other games, uh, Broncos at the Bills. The Bills
are an eight point favorite. That is Sunday, that Sunday
morning at ten am on the West Coast. I don't

(22:41):
see the Broncos winning this, but I do see them
playing really well. I think bo Nicks is actually he
was a surprise to everybody who went that early at
number ten. I believe he won at number ten, and
Sean Payton picked him up. Then I think they can
surprise him. I'm not gonna say they're gonna win, but
I think they could. You know, with Patrick Certan and
in the defensive backfield they got they got a really

(23:03):
really strong defense. They got some playmakers in Courtland Sutton
Williams at running back. And bo Nicks has surprised a
lot of people. He really really has. But Sean Payton
saw it. I know I didn't. What do you think
about that game?

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Yeah, I'm going with Buffalo. Okay, that's enough question. It's
not even it's not. I don't think it's going to
be close. I think I think Devers did enough to
get through. I think Denver has improved. I think, you know,
Sean Payton did a great job this year with the team.
I think Bo Knicks did a good job obviously with
his rookie season. But I can't see them and I

(23:39):
can't see it happened.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
The next game on Sunday is the Packers at the Eagles.
Eagles a four and a half point favorite. Eagles are
healthy on defense. Of course, they've got some incredible weapons
in aj Brown, Devonte In, the quarterback James, Yeah, DeVante Smith.

(24:01):
But the quarterback Jalen Hurts. He can be up and down.
But I think the Eagles do beat the Packers at home.
What does your take on that game?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Yeah, I don't like the Packers at all. I can't
stand them. I really don't like Philly either, but I.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Don't like I don't like either of them.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
But but if I have the pig one, I'm going
with I guess what is it? Fly? Eagles fly?

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Yeah, Packers. And I think Jordan Love is going to
be a good, really good quarterback in this league. But
I don't think yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Will They're not ready right now, but you know, give
them a year or two, another year, another, another, another
year or two, and they'll be ready to go. And
then the squad will be ready to go. I think
they're gonna have to definitely shut down Josh Jacobs though.
I mean, he's got You've got to stop that running
game early, right, And if that running game gets going,
then green Bay could be a nightmare for you.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Good big could bag and if if.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
If By the way, I'm still kind of kind of
bitter about this uh rushing record. It's bothered me. For
If you win it all, that's great, it was a
great deal. If you lose and you don't get to
the show, you don't get to the super Bowl, you
don't get to the dance, right right, you don't win

(25:12):
the dance, that would be something you regret the rest
of your life.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Wow, good point. I didn't even think about that. I mean,
it didn't rub me the wrong way until you said
that right there, because I didn't think about that. As
you a former player and you know, being an offensive lineman,
you know how difficult that is.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
I agree with.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
You, I mean, I totally agree for seeing what Barkley
they have a chance at that hallowed record of Eric
Dickerson to beat that.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
It's it's but it's not just. But see here's the thing.
It's not just his record. And so when people say like, well,
it's his choice and he should be allowed to do
what he wants to do, well, it's not just his choice,
because what about the five or six guys that were
on the front of that line that we're blocking for
him and banging their heads against the wall every play

(25:59):
and going, you know, giving their body up. What about
the receivers that were blocking downfield for him? Right, It's
it's it's the whole team, right, and the guys that
came in off the bench that was in his And
to have to have your as alignman to be able
to say, hey, look, I ran for the the guy
who broke the rushing record in the NFL, the guy

(26:22):
who led the league in rushing five times or six times,
that's a big deal to talk about. Right. I blocked
for the guy who rushed for a thousand yards the
first five or six seasons. That's a big deal. Right.
To say I blocked for a guy in college who
won the Heisman is a big deal. So it's not.
It's not just your record, it's a lineman's record also,

(26:44):
and it's definitely for everybody on that team that put
in effort to block and make sure that you got
into the end zone or got extra yards downfield. And
so when you say no, I'm not doing it, Yeah,
his name would go in the record book. But really
it's a whole lot of guys that helped contribute to
that undred percent.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
And Saque I don't know if you saw the the
quick clip of when Nick Sirianni the coaches said there going,
Hey we're gonna sait He said, hey, man, that's cool.
Let the young guys eat. And he was very gracious
about the whole thing, very gracious. But now that you
bring up everybody else that is involved in that record,
that makes total sense to me. I'm with you, man,
that's that's a part of history. You can you know,

(27:22):
you can never take away from somebody until somebody else
does it. But that was forty plus brigand years ago.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Right, But here's here's here's something interesting. Tell me, though,
tell me if there's a running back that's run for
two thousand yards back to back season, no happening.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Yeah, Dickerson. No, he never did. Wow, Wow, I didn't
know that.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
No, it's uh, it's it's a history and they let
that one slip away.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
I agree with the other person back to back.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
So so you're asking, you're telling me, oh, we didn't
get it this year, but we'll get it next year.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
No, yeah, it doesn't happen. You're right, No, it doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Commanders and Tampa Bay is the third game on Sunday.
Bucks are a three point favorite in Tampa Bay. I
think Tampa Bay pulls it out. But man, that Jadon
Daniels is super special. I gotta be honest with you,
that is one special quarterback. I think when it's all
said and done in a couple of decades, we'll look
back and go, that was the best pick in the

(28:18):
draft with Jayden Daniels.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
What's your take on that game.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
I like Jaydon Daniels. I think that it definitely was
a great pick for Washington. I like what Washington has
been doing. I like how they've changed their whole program around.
They've got a whole different outlook on what they expect
and what the demand is from those players and what
the expectation is and they get it. And I think

(28:41):
you can watch Washington go into Buccaneer Town.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Where you played, by the way, where you played.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
And yeah, and I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go with
Washington wins.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Wow. I like it. I like it a lot.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
I think that Tampa Bay is a good team, not
a great team. They did win the NFC South. Baker
Mayfield has resurrected his career. Isn't that interesting to see?
When you mentioned Jaden Daniels and it had me flash
on the Raiders hiring like a Mike Vrabel defensive mighted coach.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
But it's all about the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
You can have a defensive mighty coach, and with the
friggin' Super Bowl, it's all about It's a quarterback frigging league, man.
I mean, look at that. That's just like day and night.
You can bring in a vary ball with a great
offensive coordinator, but you don't have the quarterback. They're totally screwed.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
The last game NFL playoff game this weekend. It's on
a Monday night. It's the Vikings at the Rams. Vikings
a two and a half point favorite on the road
in La. I gotta be honest, with you. I like
the rams chances here with Stafford, Cup and Nakua. They
kind of showed, you know, when the Vikings lost to

(29:53):
the Lions last week, they kind of showed what to do.
I think McVeigh has won a Super Bowl. He's got
some great young talent on defense, and Fisk and Jared Verse.
I think if they get after Darnold, there's a really
good chance that the Rams win.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
What do you think, Well, I think that game is
being played in Arizona now to the Fire. Yeah right,
and so now, I don't think there's really home full
of advantage.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Listen, with the Rams and Chargers, they're never his home
field of ventage.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
There was gonna be a sea of purple in so far.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Anyway, I don't think there's a home full of advantage anyway.
I'm I like Minnesota, Okay. I think Minnesota is going
to come in with the vengeance. I think you look
at how they played against Detroit. They were right there
for the most part and then all of a sudden
it got away from them, right, and then when it
got away, it was big. And I think they are

(30:50):
they're going to come in. They're gonna come in upset. Yeah,
really upset and the fact that they're what fourteen and
three and they have to be a fifth seed?

Speaker 2 (30:58):
Are you it makes no sense, careers, theyre going to
redo that.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
This is going to come to a different level based
off the number of games and where you shit and
and you know you got guys that are ten and
seven can't get in right.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
Yeah, Well it's like also, you know, you win a
it's like in the college football playoffs, you win your conference,
you get to buy It makes no sense, you know,
it's the same thing. And they got they got some
tweaking to do on that. So the Rams and Vikings.
I really like the chance of the Rams because Stafford,
Nicua and cup But I gotta be honest with you,

(31:31):
Vikings wide receivers and Jefferson and your boy Addison from USC.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Those guys are electric, I mean.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
And Aaron Jones that even though they got Kyron Williams
of Rams, a great running back, I think Aaron Jones
is just out of the backfield catching the ball.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
He's a beast when he runs the ball. I like,
I want the Rams to win.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Maybe my heart is in this because that was my
first favorite team in the seventies growing up as a
GID in LA. I think I think that the Vikings
have some superior playmakers, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah, and you also got to remember that Jefferson's coming
off of not such a great game and Detroit so great.
I don't think you've ever seen him have back to
back bad games, and I think he's gonna come out
and really just he's gonna light some things up. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
I think him and Jamar Chase are one and two
in the league. As far as wide receivers, I really
think they do. I gotta be honest with you. I
don't think they've thrown the ball that much to Cooper Cup.
It's Stafford has been like zeroing in on Pooka and
it's it's very obvious.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I think they need to.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Well that's on mcvagh two, but I think I think
the Rams's what's interesting about the Rams is they've been there.
You know, they have been in the Super Bowl. This
will be mcvay's third one. Lost, the first one to
the Patriots, won, the second one against is that Cincinnati,
I think beat Cincinnati, And I think that really plays
into it a lot, don't you. As far as you know,

(32:52):
having not only staff members but have players, even though
it's pretty much a completely different roster.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
I think you have that mindset, Hey, we've done this before.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
You know, yeah, you've done it before. But you also
got to remember, right, So you're saying you're seeing them
being predictable by where they're throwing the ball mostly, and
when you get to the playoffs, things change, right expecting unexpected. Yeah,
you may start you may start seeing the ball going
to Cooper Cup, you know what I mean. And that's
where you know, no one's expecting that. So they're like,

(33:22):
what haven't been that our year?

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Is the Rams offensive line any good? Or is it
just okay?

Speaker 3 (33:27):
I think it's okay. I don't think injury. Yeah, some injuries.
I think some guys have left and you had retired guys. Yeah,
it's it's it's got. It takes some time to get
back to where it was. It's going to take a
few years to build it.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
I got to be honest with you, I'm kind of
blown away that the Rams are in the playoffs right now.
If they're losing Aaron Donald after you know kind of
you know, drafting some first round draft picks on defense,
but that Jared Verse is a beast beast.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Oh my god. And who's the other Florida state kid? Fisked?
I think that white boy monster in the middle.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Now, they got they got some They got some talent there,
that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
All right.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Man, Hey, thank you so much, buddy. I appreciate it. Danny,
go have another twelve kids. We don't care at this point.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
That's that's that's fine.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Yeah, something like that. You know he's in al Paso, Texas.
I mean it's like, dude, you're having nine kids in
El Paso, Texas. It's like Jesus, right, all right, thanks Derek.
