Yesterday I made the case that creativity is not a gift some people receive and others don't.

 It is a character strength.Which means it lives in every person, on a spectrum, and it can be developed.It also means it can be suppressed — and that the suppression has consequences.

When talking about setting and achieving goals, structural tension doesn't work automatically. There's a condition that has to be met. You have to be able to hold both sides simultaneously.

If one side collapses, the tension collapses. Andwhen the tension collapses, the engine goes quiet.

I find that line both liberating and terrifying in equal measure. And I think that's exactly right. Because the path you are walking — the one that is yours, that belongs to your particular Genius, your particular calling, your particular figure eight — ...

Spirituality means different things to different people. For some it's inseparable from religious faith. For others it's entirely secular — a felt sense of connection to something larger, a recognition that the individual life is embedded in something that extends beyond it. For others still, it's a word that carries enough baggage from past experiences that it needs to be approached slowly.

There is something extraordinary underneath the word vocation, something that changes the entire frame of how you understand your work, your Genius, and the thread that has been running through your life.

A vocation, in its original sense, was not something you elected from a menu of options based on aptitude and marketdemand.
