Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Shit Show.
The podcast starts now with DJCornbread, aka the Empress.
Hey, hey, ladies and gentlemen,it's the Big man.
This is the largest fashionshow of the podcast.
Say the sound of the beats.
What's up?
(00:20):
Y'all?
It's your girl.
Dj Cornbread, aka the Empress,y'all already know what time it
is.
Something we all crave, butsometimes we push Loyalty.
Loyalty we got to talk aboutthis Loyalty.
Is loyalty a virtue or a trap?
Is it a sign of strength?
It's just, I don't know.
(00:41):
It's just.
You can get blindsided by it,because from friendships to
companies, to politics, tofamilies, loyalty can be both
the glue and the cage.
So this is like a big topic.
So let's start with thedefinition.
The definition of loyalty isgenerally defined as a strong
feeling of support or allegiance, but that's just the service.
(01:05):
So there's loyalty in people, friends, partners, mentors, all
that.
There's loyalty in institutions, like companies you work for
for years, and there's loyaltyto ideas, beliefs and even to
like a version of yourselfyou're trying to honor.
But so here's the catchSometimes loyalty asks us to
(01:29):
stay when we should go.
You might, you know, be aroundsomebody or not know if you
still need to be around acertain person or certain people
, but it's just like how loyalyou are to those people or to,
like I said, to their job.
It can be to anything, but todefend what we don't believe in,
to, like, silence our doubts,so like.
(01:49):
The question is, how do we knowwhen loyalty is love and when
it's fear?
That's the hard one, becausesometimes you can't tell the
difference.
It's hard.
So it's like what's going on inyour brain when you feel loyal,
like because loyalty is rootedin belonging.
Humans evolved to survive intribes, so loyalty to groups
(02:10):
meant survival.
But today it's like thatinstinct sometimes attaches to
people or systems that no longereven serve us or really serve.
They don't even stand onbusiness when it comes to
loyalty.
So it's like it's different.
It's different.
Now.
Loyalty ain't the same.
People don't even stand onbusiness when it comes to
loyalty.
So it's like it's like it'sdifferent, it's different.
Now Loyalty ain't the same.
People don't stick by theirloyalty, so like.
(02:31):
So is loyalty always a goodthing.
And see, that's the tricky part, because loyalty is neutral
until context is added.
It's like it's not, it's notfeeling, it's not the feeling
that matters, it's what you'rebeing loyal to and why guilt,
fear and even shame can disguisethemselves as loyalty.
So you got to be careful withcertain situations.
(02:55):
It's so like, say, when you sayI owe them, it can either mean
I'm grateful or you might betrapped Like healthy loyalty
feels empowering if it's toxic, toxic loyalty feels like like
you're, like being suffocated.
So you should be able to tellthe difference, but sometimes
(03:15):
it's hard.
So like, say, say, a personfound themselves in like a
10-year friendship, uh, withsomebody that she no longer even
like recognized and she knewthis person was changing.
But like you knew therelationship was like unhealthy,
but you kept staying, theperson kept staying or whatever,
(03:38):
and the whole reason mostlikely would be because of
loyalty.
But it almost costs the persona self-worth.
So you have to make sure youdon't do too much, or you know
it'd be kind of hard when itcomes to that and then it'd be
hard to like to walk away fromit.
You know, especially if you'rereally loyal to somebody or you
(04:00):
fuck with them like that, because sometimes you just have
to like redefine loyalty.
It's not like.
It's not like who you stickwith, but who sticks with with
your growth.
So some people might be in thewrong lane.
It's like we're not ready to bein that lane, yeah, keep going
in circles.
So yeah, that that's just awhole big thing.
So loyalty these days don'tmean shit, it's not even it's
(04:25):
like back in the day loyaltylike, well, that was that real
loyalty, shit.
These days, shit is different.
So Now let's talk about whatabout, like the workplace.
When you get work for us beingloyal to work, loyalty gets
complicated at work.
So some people they'll have ajob and you, loyal to their job,
(04:45):
you stay late, you stay throughlayoffs because they loyal to
you and you don't been therelike say, six years or whatever,
and then all of a sudden theylay you off without anything
(05:07):
like that.
That's fucked up.
And you'll be a person thathave so much loyalty to a
company Say, I'm talking aboutyou work for a company.
You always like you've missedyour birthdays, you miss your
family, you know events orgatherings or whatever, or your
kids' events, you've canceledvacations, and that's some
loyalty for your ass.
(05:28):
That's real loyalty to a job.
When you basically put themfirst and say fuck your family
and whatever you got going on inyour piece, you'll feel like
you do all that for a company.
They should have your back.
Businesses don't always operateon that emotional currency level
.
So sometimes you have to likeevaluate loyalty like contract,
(05:49):
mutual, clear and like withboundaries, because if you don't
, you'll be in fucked upsituations because, like,
sometimes loyalty and integritycollide like.
So think about thesewhistleblowers and protesters
and people who leave umlong-held beliefs or whatever
communities because somethingdeep inside them like shift.
(06:11):
Loyalty says like, stay true toyour group.
Integrity says stay true toyour values, like because
ideally they align some point, but when they don't, long term
like, psychological well-beingusually follows integrity.
So loyalty that costs you youridentity is way too expensive.
(06:32):
So that's where you need to justneed to know, like, where to
draw the line.
And it's, it's fucked up thatyou know from friends or up to
like businesses or whatever youwant to call it.
It's, it's the loyalty.
You have to draw a line, andyou might not even want to, but
a majority of the time thatmight be the best thing to do.
(06:53):
And some people, like I said, loyalty don't be it, don't mean
the same to everybody, becauseit's like shit.
You just tell people what thefuck is going on, whatever it is
.
If you loyal, you loyal.
If you not, then just go aheadand be 100.
You know with the job and letthem know shit and they'll show
you real quick what type ofmotherfucker they are.
(07:15):
Same with people.
So you just got.
You just gotta keep your eyesopen when she liked it.
Just keep your eyes open, forit's like you gotta be able to
tell.
It's hard to tell the differencebetween loyal motherfuckers and
people that just speaking agood game.
So, like, what does loyaltymean to you?
Like, sometimes you have to sitand ask yourself, like, what
(07:37):
does loyalty mean to you?
If a person's doing somethingto you and you feel like it's
not loyal, that's not the typeperson that you are.
That's how you would handle, like your loyalty or whatever,
then that shit was never real.
That shit was never real in thefirst place.
If that's, if that's what typeof shit goes on in a person's
(07:59):
head when they say that theyloyal, like it may, it makes you
think like, twice, three, fourtimes.
You know it's just like damn,it's fucked up because it's
loyalty.
What is it like supposed to be?
Is it a promise?
Is it just a habit?
Is it a virtue, like maybe it'ssomething that, like, we
constantly have to redefinebecause, person to person,
season to season, I mean it'sjust, you never know.
It's something that, like, weconstantly have to redefine
because, person to person, season to season.
(08:20):
I mean it's just, you neverknow.
It's just, people's loyalty isdifferent and it's just like I
don't know, one day it can beone, one way or one thing, and
the next day it can be sometotally fucking different.
Because the healthiest kind ofloyalty doesn't demand that you
disappear, so it shows up, butnot at the cost of your truth.
So if, if you feel like, likeyou need to like rethink a
(08:45):
relationship or a workplace oreven a belief or whatever, it's
just like hope, you sit with it,like sit with it because
loyalty is very powerful.
But you said you deserve togive it wisely, like you, you
can't, yeah, you can't.
No, you cannot just be givingand loyalty and then like, then
people be fucked up because theydon't be knowing what to do,
(09:08):
because they done gave theirloyalty or they done did certain
shit, and then they just belike damn, what the fuck?
And that shit fucks with people, especially when you a person
that you know that always try tobe there for a person or
something like that, and then tobe on some some shit like that
and just like it fucks with youand make you look at people a
totally different way.
And it's even worse when youhave people that tell you shit
(09:32):
first and then you'd be like, ohokay, then you run out on it
and be like whatever, but thewhole time it was true.
So I mean, yeah, you have toLike with that loyal shit
motherfuckers, everybody ain'tloyal these days that loyal shit
(09:52):
be in one ear and out the otherand people be on a whole
different ballgame when it comesto loyalty.
Yeah, and that's fucked up,that some things you have to do
and, uh, two people are or youhave to switch, switch up on how
you do shit, or fuck with otherpeople, or and or it makes you
(10:16):
scared to fuck with people thatyou meet because also, if, like,
they end up doing some shitlike that and then you show
loyalty, and then what fuckersthey?
Loyalty is totally different.
That's what fucks you up,especially when you're a person
that go and then you showloyalty and them, motherfuckers,
their loyalty is totallydifferent.
That's what fucks you up,especially when you're a person
that go around and you showloyalty to damn near everybody
that you fuck with, and thenwhen you get fucked over or you
get somebody do some ho shit andstuff like that.
(10:37):
It's just like damn, it's likea slap in the face.
And it's even worse whensomebody try to tell you like I
told you, so that shit, it'slike damn.
So that loyalty shit is like ahome.
That shit hits home.
Some real shit.
Because I mean, if you, if Idon't know, loyalty plays a big
(10:59):
part in shit.
Because shit, if I fuck withyou, I fuck with you.
If I don't, I don't.
From loyalty to you, loyalty toyou Shit.
If I can help you, I can helpyou, but I don't, I don't.
I'm loyal to you, I'm loyal toyou Shit.
If I can help you, I can helpyou, but I don't know.
Everybody just look at thingsdifferent.
So I guess it means that I meanyou just need to make sure you
(11:20):
don't, just make sure you knowwho you're being loyal to.
When you're being loyal, makesure you do your at this shit.
This point in time, these days, you got to do research, damn
near, because you fucking aroundbe you being loyal to the wrong
motherfucker, and it's justlike I said, people play a
certain role and you will neverknow because they'd be so good
(11:42):
at it.
So you just have to make sureyou take care of your peace and
just don't do any kind of stupidass shit when it comes to that,
because loyalty can be verycomplex, because it's admirable,
(12:03):
symbolizing trust, love andreliability, and that it also
can become damaging when itcauses someone to stay in an
unhealthy relationship orsupport you know harm.
They support harmful systems orignore personal values or
whatever.
So it's like I'm not just I'mnot just saying you know, it's
(12:24):
not about saying, it's about whyyou stay.
It's not about staying, it'sabout why you stay.
It's not about staying, it'sabout, like I said, why you stay
.
So it's like I don't know.
It's just personal loyalty tofriends and family and partners
that show up and support, trustand stand by someone during hard
times.
It's personal loyalty.
(12:45):
Professional loyalty is like toyour employer, mentors or a team
, often saying like dedicationto share goals or staying with a
company long term and shit likethat.
Ideological, uh, loyalty tobeliefs, causes or religions.
Like this can guide personalvalues and decisions as well.
(13:06):
So it just, it just dependslike you, any like anything.
It doesn't matter what.
It is loyalty, you just have tomake sure you is damn like,
have your pros and cons and andshit.
If your cons is outweighing yourpros and shit, I guess at that
point that's when you knowexactly what you need to do to
(13:27):
get back on track with thatlittle shit.
Because, like I said, this dayand age everybody ain't on the
same shit.
A lot of people is like forthey self or fucking people over
, or this, this and that, andyou just got to know, like I
said, be 100 and stay on top ofyour shit.
But that's all I got gotta sayabout the word loyalty and what
(13:52):
it means and how I feel about it.
But y'all already know what itis.
