Speaker 2 (00:22):
Welcome back to
Episode 9 of the Potty Talk
Podcast.
We got a new guest on today, but I'll introduce myself first.
My name is Drew and I'm herewith my co-host.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
My name is Gabe and
we are joined by a third guest
today.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yes, sorry, third
host today, yes, so this is our
social media manager, adriana,so say hi to the folks, hi
everyone.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Our social media
manager, adriana.
So say hi to the folks, hieveryone.
You probably may have seen meat events or have conversed with
me over email.
I am also the person that isanswering our DMs and comments,
so it's nice to be on with youguys and talk about a few things
(01:05):
you guys had in mind.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, and she's
usually behind the camera.
So if you've tuned into ourprevious episodes, we shouted
her out a few times, wranglingthe dogs behind the camera,
making sure everything's good.
So thank you for all your hardwork.
I know sometimes it gets alittle.
It gets a little hectic behindthe camera with the dogs.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Here we got three of
them today too, too so they will
be popping in and out, um, butyeah, thank you yes, no, it's
definitely like what you guysdon't see behind camera is.
You know, a lot of our guestswhich we always want is them to
bring on their dogs, and youknow we're more than happy to
have them here, but you, they'renot always like sitting down,
(01:44):
they're like new to the space.
So I mean, I think the mostmemorable is Bruno the
Labradoodle.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
You know he was very
active and you know wanted to be
kind of all over the place, soit was a lot of like ball
tossing.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
And just kind of
trying to keep him quiet.
I mean, we had Stella, who'soff camera right now but trying
to come in through the doors, sothere was a lot of trying to
keep everything peaceful behindthe scenes so that you guys
could do your episode.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah we appreciate
you for that.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
We don't have that
support today, so hopefully
today goes smoothly.
Yeah, at least we got theoffice dogs, no guest dogs, so
they know what they're doing.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
They're familiar with
the space and stuff, absolutely
.
No, it's great.
We really appreciate it.
It gives us great contentbehind the scenes too.
We're always sitting on goodstuff.
So if you guys want to see morebehind the scenes content,
that's kind of a goal of ours, but let us know in comments.
And then, before we really kickthings off, I just want to say
(02:48):
hit that subscribe button ifyou're watching on YouTube, like
this video.
Comment, follow us on socialsat Fresh Patch.
Stay up to date with the PottyTalk podcast.
We love giving you guys newepisodes every Friday, so stay
tuned.
And all those behind the scenestoo.
So I think today, if you wantto introduce what we're going to
be discussing today, Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
We got the whole team
on today, so we're going to do
something a little different.
We had a YouTube video not toolong ago.
Just get a ton of comments, questions, just stuff like that.
What we wanted to do is kind ofgather some of them and use
them to do sort of like afrequently asked question thing.
So we're going to go over somefrequently asked questions
(03:26):
through our YouTube comments andjust kind of see what kind of
tidbits we can offer you guys.
Yep.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
So start us off,
Adriana.
What's the first comment?
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Yes, so we get this a
lot, but is it cleanable?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Great question.
I guess I can tackle that one.
Is it cleanable?
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Great question I
guess.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I can tackle that one
.
Is it cleanable?
So Fresh Patch is.
Since it is real grass, it'stechnically not cleanable.
I like to say that it kind ofcleans itself, since it is a
natural product.
That might confuse people, butwe really like to tell you that
it's real grass, so it's notlike turf where you would have
to hose it down or bring it intoyour bathtub or anything like
(04:08):
that.
So, yeah, we offer things tokeep it fresh, like our Stay
Fresh spray.
We offer a cleaning kit for allour tray owners.
So the really only cleaningthat you would be doing is if
you owned a tray and you wantedto keep it fresh in between
deliveries.
But for the most part, FreshPatch has a product in itself.
There's no cleaning involved.
We deliver it straight to yourdoor.
(04:28):
You bring it inside or ontoyour patio.
You let it do its thing forhowever long your delivery
frequency is or however long youneed it.
You throw it away, Never haveto clean it, Never have to worry
about getting nasty.
We have so many stories You'veprobably heard in past episodes
too, of our guests.
You know they did have turf atsome point in their life and the
cleaning process is just supernasty and it's not worth it.
(04:50):
You're going to end up justbuying another piece of turf
anyway, so might as well justget Fresh Patch.
You know, you never have toclean it, you just throw it away
.
We ship you a new one.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
I think that covers
it yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
And add on to that.
I mean for sure?
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, I mean you know
fresh patches are meant to be
replaced.
That's kind of a benefit of it,is like you don't have to clean
it Exactly Versus turf, so yourdog uses it to his heart's
content and when it's ready, toss that thing out and you get
a new one in the mail.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yep, cool, all right,
moving on yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
So someone asked will
this work for an older blind
dog who can't get outside easily?
That's a really good question.
Yeah, definitely, I think itwould.
I mean, you know, obviously itmight be a little difficult with
the dog having visionimpairment, but it's all about
training Any dog, you know, puppies, older dogs, it's all
about training.
So, you know, put it in afamiliar spot, um, and you know,
(05:48):
start training them to go.
I'm sure, like you know, I Ihear a lot of times that, like
when, um in people, like whenthey're blind, their other
vision or their other sensesyeah thank you exactly, so you
would think that you know, maybetheir sense of smell is really
(06:16):
good they're going to be able totell that it's it's real grass,
um.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
So that might be a
huge benefit for them.
So in my eyes, yeah, it senseof smell is probably enhanced a
little bit.
So spray that, go here, sprayon Um, and that should help them
.
Since it is real too, they arenaturally attracted.
They can smell the real grassversus a piece of plastic like
turf or pee pads.
So I would add that too is youknow, they just and what you
said, put it in that familiarspot was really, really
(06:40):
beneficial and they'll just getused to it, especially on the
smell.
So I don't know if you haveanything to add onto that.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Yeah, I think again,
given the situation it is, it's
like put it in a familiar spotbut then taking them to that
spot a few times so that theyassociate it.
It's, you know, they can findit and smell it, essentially,
but just taking them a few timesto that spot and I think
they'll kind of catch on to it,and make sure to reward them,
(07:07):
too, when you do take them tothat spot, especially if they do
go potty, because that'll teachthem real quick.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Also the old, tried
and true method of getting some
of your dog's urine on a papertowel, rubbing it on there.
That's going to be a signal tothem oh, this is a place for me
to go, yep exactly, keep everyother area clean.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
W oh, this is a place
for me to go.
Yep, exactly, keep every otherarea clean, wipe it on the grass
.
They'll only smell it there, so, yeah, so this is for, yeah,
blind dogs.
We have a partner that has adeaf dog, so I'm just going on
the disabilities and stuff.
So, yeah, it can be used formany, many different reasons.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Also, if you have a
blind dog who currently uses
Fresh Patch, let us know.
We want to know what yourexperience is like and, you know
, maybe give us tips of like howyou've been able to train your
dog, so that you know, we havethat knowledge.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Definitely,
definitely so cool, that's a
great one.
Yeah, all right, let's movedown the list.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
What's next how?
Speaker 2 (08:01):
often do you change
them?
Ooh, that's a good one.
Who wants to tackle this one?
Speaker 4 (08:06):
I think it also
depends.
You know, we're coming uponsummer, so that kind of can
change the frequency compared torainy season or wintertime when
it's colder.
So that is one caveat I willsay.
That is one caveat I will say.
(08:26):
But generally we say aboutevery two to three weeks and it
does depend on, you know, if youhave multiple dogs in your
household or if you just haveone.
If you have a larger dog, like, let's say, this guy Oliver, you
know he's going to have abigger bladder and going to have
a lot more um coming out of him, so you might have to change it
(08:48):
a little bit more frequently.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
For sure.
Yeah, and you can always set upyour subscription to know.
I always encourage people ifyou are new and you can always
just do a one-time purchase tooto try it out, see how long it
actually lasts for your specificdog, how it works for you, and
then get yourself onsubscription to really help out
with, you know, always havinggrass available.
Like you said with Oliver, Ihave the XXL combo for Oakley at
(09:13):
home and that lasts a week.
He's a 95-pound shepherd andlet me tell you that one go and
that thing's already turningyellow and stuff.
So if you do have the biggerbreed dogs, you're probably
looking at a bigger bladder andstuff.
So yeah, really just depends oneverything.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
But yeah, we also now
have a double xl combo
available um, where we wouldsend two xls at like a
discounted price bundledtogether might be a good option
if you have a really big dog or,you know, maybe a smaller dog
who likes to circle around orthat multi-dog household, like
ad Adriana said too.
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I know we have some
dachshunds that get the XXL
combo.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
So there you go.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Two little weenies
can use a XXL combo too.
So it really just depends whatworks for your patio, what works
for your schedule, what worksfor your dog.
But if you have questionsfurther than that, hit up our
customer service, Hit us up onDMs.
We'll be happy to help you outand give you the right guide.
On the website, too, there aresize guides and stuff that we
(10:11):
have in place.
There's a little pop-up videoof our owner, too, kind of
guiding you through things aswell.
So, yeah, we have a lot oftools to help you out, but yeah,
it's a very, very commonquestion.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
I love that one too.
Hey guys, I'm Karina Michelle, host of Coffee with Karina
Entertainment, Unfiltered.
Where the real Hollywoodhappens off the red carpet.
I sit down with creatives whodare to dream big.
It's fun and, yeah, it does geta little unfiltered.
So grab your coffee and comeand hang out Coffee with Karina
now, streaming wherever youlisten to podcasts.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
We might have already
answered this, but we will
forever get this question is thegrass real or fake?
Speaker 3 (10:59):
drew.
I feel like, uh, this is atriggering question for you.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
It is, you know,
working here for so long, you
know, and just all the brandingwe have and, um, yes, it is real
grass.
Okay, that's all I'm gonna say.
I'm just it is real grass.
Okay, that's all I'm going tosay.
It is real grass.
Hence our beautiful light-upsign right here Farm Fresh, real
Grass.
So we get this locally sourcedfrom our farm and then it is
hand-packed daily in ourwarehouse, hand-packed by our
(11:25):
warehouse team.
So, no machines, no, nothing.
We quality control, ensure thatit is fresh as possible.
So, yes, this is real grass.
There is no fake stuff aroundhere.
No, nothing.
We quality control, ensure thatit is fresh as possible.
So, yes, this is real grass.
There is no fake stuff aroundhere.
No turf.
We take a lot of pride in that.
We were the first as well.
So we really like to try togive you that message.
And with our branding I meanour tent.
(11:46):
If you've been to any of ourevents, our tents say it, our
banners, our everything.
So on the box is this circlelogo as well.
So, yes, it is real grass.
Like you said, we will get thisquestion all the time until the
end of eternity, but yeah, um,yeah, now, yeah, it does kind of
get me going understandable.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, it's so funny
too, because, like we'll have,
like people will make videos ofthem getting the fresh patch and
they're like oh, I thought thiswas turf.
This is real grass.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah, exactly, and we
have so many things, open it
immediately.
We get videos like that too.
Oh, I thought it was turf, so Ididn't open it for a week and
now it's dead and it's like yes, since it's real, it needs to
breathe, it needs a littlesunlight.
So make sure if you do orderyou are opening immediately,
because it is real grass.
Oh yeah, I don't know how manytimes I can say it.
It's real folks, All right,Cool, no, yeah, that's a great
(12:39):
question.
Yeah, pain point for mesometimes.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
For sure, and also
like with that, you know, it's
important to understand again,it's a real live plant.
So if it does come and it is alittle yellowed, you know it's a
plant.
Yeah, and sometimes in thosesituations too.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
All it does need is
to breathe and, like you know,
you might get it a little yellow.
Take that lid off, put it insome sunlight, get it some air.
You'll see in like one to twodays it'll kind of start getting
rid of those yellow spots.
So, like any plant, you know itneeds some sunlight, needs some
air.
We don't encourage you to waterit, um, just you know, extending
on that, um, we do offer, likeI said earlier, stay fresh spray
(13:16):
, which is a lemongrass scentedspray, which is pretty much the
alternative to uh watering.
We also do suggest, if youdon't have the stay fresh spray,
you can always just fill aspray bottle with water and mist
it.
Uh, never actually fully waterit, because that will just soak
the grass.
Our boxes are wax line but ifyou put a hose to it or even a
big bucket of water like it'sjust going to end its life
(13:38):
pretty much right there and thenyou're going to have sloppy
grass and you know, we reallytry to encourage you not to
water it and get on thatsubscription so you could just
be replaced.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
So yeah, and then to
also add on to why you wouldn't
want to water it is, you'rebasically defeating the purpose.
The grass is there to absorbany liquids that are coming from
your pet, so if it's alreadywet with water, it's not going
(14:06):
to do its job.
Basically.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Exactly.
Yeah, that's a great point.
That's a great point, cool yeah.
No, these are great comments.
I.
Yeah, that's a great point, that's a great point, cool yeah.
No, this is.
These are great comments.
I love this.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
No a lot of the
comments I can tell are from
people who are just beingintroduced to Fresh Patch and,
like, this is the first videothat they've seen of us, so the
questions definitely make sense.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Yeah, I mean, it's
such a unique product you know,
unless you know about it, it'sgoing to be confusing.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Yeah definitely so.
That's why we're here Gettingyou educated and letting you
know the nitty gritty of FreshPatch we got to.
There's a lot going on withthese dogs right now.
Mine needs to stop and get upon the couch.
Hey, Come here.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Oakley's got a little
bean biting issue.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
I'm sure many of you
Oakley, come on, oakley's got a
little bean biting issue.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I'm sure many of you,
oakley, come here, buddy, come
here, buddy.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Come here.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Oakley.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
He doesn't know what
to do right now.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Come on, come here we
have a stubborn pup.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Come on now.
Oh, there you go.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Come on, you got it,
oh, you got it, you got it, you
got it.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Oh, you got it, buddy
oh.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
He's just confused,
Poor guy.
He's a little confused, butwe'll let him do his thing.
I had to get him to stop buyingthe beans there for a second
yeah you know, Cool, let's movedown the list, okay.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Yeah, so this is
somebody who has tried Fresh
Patch.
I have used this with my dogsuccessfully for several months,
but now he doesn't walk all theway onto it and ends up peeing
on an outside edge.
Can't seem to break him of thishabit.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Yeah, that's a good
one, one.
That's a tough one.
It's tough because dogs aresuch habitual creatures, you
know, once they like, develophabits.
Unless they're corrected like, they're gonna keep kind of doing
it yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
So that's what I was
gonna capitalize on is just
maybe go back into the trainingmethods, um, you know, just
letting them hey, that's rewardif they just start rewarding
again, if they are successfullygetting all the way on the patch
.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
They mentioned their
size, no, so that was one of my
thoughts was you know, did theystart out with?
You know this dog as a puppyand maybe they haven't increased
the size, yeah, of their patch.
So, um, we definitely recommendyou, you know, if your dog, you
know you get them from a puppy, you start with a smaller size
(16:37):
and then, obviously, as theygrow, they might need to
graduate to the next size.
Um, and that could honestly be.
You know, take care of theproblem.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Exactly, yeah, so
bigger size, little extra
training.
Let them know that's not how todo it correctly.
Don't reward them after that.
You know, redirect them, getthem all the way on.
We actually have one of ourpartners, you know, put them,
just pick them up, if you canpick them up.
I don't know if you know we gota big boy like these two down
here, but pick them up and putthem directly on that grass and
(17:07):
you know, like, let them knowthat's how they have to do it.
Um, but yeah, bigger size forsure, if you do have, you know,
mini through large, definitelylook at that XL, maybe the
double XL too.
It just depends on the breed, your space.
I know a lot of people can'tfit the double XL on their patio
.
Um, I always tell people youdon't have to just have it on
the patio if you want twosections.
But that's personal preference.
(17:29):
Of course you know you don'twant to confuse your dog with
different spots, but if they arefamiliar with two spots, that's
an option as well.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
But I think another
thing too is like supervision.
You know, like, if your dog'slike having some sort of issues
like that, like you know, makesure that they're not using it
unsupervised, so that you knowthey can't continue these habits
like when you're not around tocorrect them.
Exactly, yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, and I think um
going off of that is, you know,
maybe you're just kind of usedto them already knowing how to
go, but you know, obviouslythey're not fully going on the
patch.
So you know, watching themwhile they're doing it might
give you a little bit moreinformation as well.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Yeah, definitely,
information as well.
Yeah, definitely, yeah.
Cause seven seven months.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
right they were
saying about.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
They had it for
several several months, okay,
yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Yeah, I can see a dog
getting a little lazy with it,
you know, and she's like ah,there it is.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Yeah, I'm close.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
I'm close enough,
exactly I can smell it, so I'll
just start going.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I remember, guys,
dogs are like dogs are like
children.
You're not going to let yourkids do things unsupervised.
The same thing with your dogs.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, exactly, great
point.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Yeah, and another
thought that just came is I
don't know if, like in that area, that same area, that they keep
going, like on the floor, iftheir scent is still on that
floor, they, that could beanother reason why they're just
continuing to go in that spot.
So you really do have to likeclean the floor and like remove
(18:54):
the scent that they can smell.
You might not be able to smellit, but there there's certain um
sprays and things like that umthat you can find on Amazon that
will remove any scent andpheromones that they can smell
in there and their pee.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
So yeah, exactly so,
yeah, if it does happen.
Yeah, smell in their, in theirpee.
So yeah, exactly so, yeah.
If it does happen, yeah, keepyour floors clean.
That's a very, very good point, because they're smart like that
, they will.
They will go right back to thatspot like we said before about
just scent transferring ingeneral.
I mean, that's pretty much themscent transferring themselves
without you know what I mean.
So pretty much good point.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
That's a really good
point okay, so I pulled one more
um.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
My puppy immediately
peed and pooped on the apartment
balcony patch, but now he'sdigging and eating the grass and
going inside the house oh, it'sprotesting a little bit oh man,
okay, so with this, uh, justgoing back to training for me,
um, that's what I always tellpeople in these situations and,
(19:51):
like what you just said, gabe, you know, monitoring and
supervising them, making sureyou're telling them no, this
isn't the proper way.
Taking them off, redirectingthem on.
If they start biting, take themoff immediately, do not give
them any rewards.
And then you know, just, it's aprocess, so it's like muscle
memory.
They got to keep doing it anddoing it and doing it until
(20:13):
you're confident it's like, ohokay, he, he's got he or she's
got it down, you know.
So it is this.
You know, like, yeah, we alwayssay they, they're naturally
(20:36):
attracted to it, and obviouslythis one was, but then maybe
just got sick of it.
I don't know that that.
You know that.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
You know that's a
dog's personal preference, but I
think just, really beingadamant about training and you
know going through the routinemultiple, multiple times getting
them very, very familiar withit and rewarding them.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yes, exactly once
they do it correct, reward them.
Get those chicken trainertreats, get that starter set
yeah, on with your patch,because.
And get that cleaning kit yes, exactly, yeah, exactly we got
the tools for you guys, soutilize them.
Um, the chicken treats are ahit and they will love that
reward.
Um, every time.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
So I don't know if
you guys want to add onto that,
but that's yeah, I think also, you know, especially if they've
gone in the house again, it goesback to you know previously how
I said clean the floors.
You have to clean those spotsthat they have gone, because
again they can smell that theywent to these other spots.
(21:16):
So for whatever reason they'regoing in those other spots, you
need to, like, remove thosescents for them to know, like
they can't smell it, they're notattracted to those areas again.
So again, and then going backto the training of having giving
them treats when they do go onthe patch, it, you know, helps
incentivize them to like theyknow they're going to get a
(21:37):
reward if they go on the patchand you know there's no reward
for going in the house.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Yeah, or digging up
the grass yes, yes yeah, cool.
I think too, like one of myfavorite training tips that we
have is just leading them to thepatch on the leash.
That will help them kind ofassociate the patch with potty
time versus like in the house, because they'll know when I'm
putting the leash on time to gopotty.
(22:04):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah no free range in
the house.
This doesn't mean I get to goanywhere.
It's like, oh okay, I shouldprobably do my business now with
the leash on and stuff.
So yeah, definitely a lot oftips for that question, for sure
.
Uh, but yeah, that's, that'sdefinitely a common one.
I know our customer serviceteam gets that one.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yeah, especially if
they're puppies.
You know they think it's a toy.
They don't know any better.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Um, you know they
might be bored and if this
whoever left this comment oranybody else that might be
having that issue too.
Um, if they're biting at thecorners and or the box, we do
offer a wooden sleeve that helpswith puppy teething.
Um, they, especially if you getthe cardboard box, they really
like to try to tear that up.
(22:47):
Yeah and for some reasons, thatcorner of the grass that I've
noticed.
A lot of dogs, um, especiallypuppies, they really try to dig
up that corner.
The wood sleeve kind of helps alittle bit.
It is on the outside so theremight be a chance that they only
get the grass, but it'll helpwith overall border of the grass
and then, of course, just goback into that training, pull
them off If they start rippingit up, tell them no, don't
(23:08):
reward them, you know, and startthe process over.
Cool, awesome, was that thelist?
Speaker 4 (23:14):
That is the list.
Wow, amazing.
