favorite local brands.
I'm excited to introduce you tomy guest.
Today.
We have Shaunee Lynch joiningus and she is with Vitae Visual.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
, welcome to the
podcast thank you so much for
having me.
This is uh.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I'm excited about
being here I am excited to learn
all about your business andabout you.
So let's start there.
Share with us a little bitabout your business.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Absolutely Well
Vitae Visual is what we call
ourselves.
It's made up of a team ofvideographers and career service
professionals and what we do iswe do video resumes.
But our video resumes is notlike somebody's just standing
there and we're recording them.
It's about a little movie abouta person.
It includes everything that youwould see on a resume and all
those wonderful attributes thatcannot be captured on a resume,
(01:11):
but it definitely can becaptured on video.
So we house our videos our Vitaevisual, as we call them onto
our database or our softwaresystem, and we provide
subscriptions to employers, andemployers will have access to be
able to view these for theirhiring needs.
It is a wonderful combinationbecause it gives employers a
(01:35):
little bit more than what theywould normally see on a resume
and, as you know, it takes sevenseconds for an employer or
hiring manager to look at aresume.
We want to make it entertainingand engaging enough so that
they can learn more about thepeople.
I would like to say that we'rethe human behind the resume,
which goes in line with what ourtagline is you are more than a
(01:58):
resume, because we are.
We're more than what we can seeon a resume.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
You're more than a
resume.
I love that.
I love that, and this is such agreat concept and so needed
right now.
I know that there are a lot ofpeople that use AI to help them
write a resume.
So, as an employer, I imagineall the resumes start to sound
the same.
So this gives a glimpse into acandidate's personality.
(02:26):
So this is genius.
I love it.
It really is so much.
Yeah, so tell us I want tolearn about your background.
How did you get into this?
Tell us about your journey.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Oh gosh.
Well, it started with a seriesof dreams in 2016.
Believe it or not, this isgoing to be a crazy story.
So hold on for just a moment.
All right, I'm ready.
(03:00):
Everybody is qualified for anexecutive secretary position.
So I received hundreds andhundreds of resumes and I had to
go through them in a very shortamount of time and I went home.
I was very stressed out and Iwas anxious and I was, like you
know, I was beside myself.
So I finally went to sleep andI dreamt that the resumes were
(03:21):
talking to me.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
And I was like okay,
this is weird, you need some
rest.
And then the second time, whichwas the second night, I dreamt
it again, but this time I couldsee the people and I could
clearly see that they weretalking about what I could can
see on their resume.
And I woke my husband up and hewas like uh, go to bed.
And I woke my husband up and hewas, like go to bed, you're
(03:46):
losing it.
And then I didn't dream itagain until like three or four
nights later and this time I wasbehind the camera.
Everything that happened in thefirst two dreams.
But this time I was behind thecamera and I'm going what is
this?
And I started writing it downand the more I wrote, the more
building I was doing, figuringit out.
And then I realized this isvideo resumes.
(04:09):
But it's not just any videoresume, it's resumes that tells
the full story about a person, the very things that employers
are looking for in the interview.
But they're also getting intheir resume, their video resume
.
So I did some research tofigure out who was doing it.
Nobody was doing it and Idecided to get a trademark and
(04:31):
get it patented, which I've done.
But then I was still working inmy own HR field.
Right, I was, you know, workingin HR doing consultancy for
federal governments and privateindustries, because my
background is compliance andhuman resources recruiting as
well.
So I've spent 20 years doing HRand it was very difficult for
(04:52):
me to say, okay, I'm leaving mycareer the one thing that I've
built so much you know, built myentire life around to leave
that and start building VitaeVisual.
But, lo and behold, 2020happened.
The COVID happened and I was athome and I was just started
working on it from there, and itwas a between a balance of
(05:14):
continuing my career and thenalso starting Vitae Visual, so
that 2020 gave me the biggestopportunity.
Looking back now, I see it wasan opportunity for me to get
Vitae Visual to where it is now.
So we literally have been inbusiness technically since 2017
when we registered, but wereally just started doing Vitae
(05:37):
Visual, I guess about four orfive months ago.
So we're brand new and we arelooking for job seekers to come
and try us out, and we'relooking for businesses to get
free registrations subscriptionsbecause right now we're giving
out free subscriptions tobusiness owners to make it more,
a little bit more convenientfor them to search and view
(05:58):
resumes.
So that's that's how we all gotstarted.
I know it's a weird story.
But that's how it happened.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I love it.
I love it and you are so smart.
I mean, so many people have, you know, dreams or thoughts on
starting a business and theyjust kind of think about it and
they sit on it.
But you took action.
So congratulations on takingthat action.
You are so smart.
(06:25):
Yeah, I'm, I'm so impressed bythis.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Awesome, awesome.
Thank you so much.
I really appreciate that it's.
It has been a labor of love.
I will tell you it's not easy.
You know what it's.
You know in my leadershippositions that I've had in HR.
It's totally different thanbeing an entrepreneur and
sometimes people can get thatkind of mixed up.
It's like no, they're twoseparate things, especially when
(06:51):
you know the business is yourbusiness, because it's a totally
different thing, and I'velearned so much throughout this
process and I'm thankful for theups and the downs.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
I imagine yeah.
So tell me, do you find thatthere are any myths or
misconceptions about thebusiness?
Probably a lot.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Because it's new,
it's not been done before, which
is interesting because we livein a digital world.
You would think something likethis would have already been
here and available for jobseekers, but of course, because
they're like okay, so how doesthis work?
Or the number one question thatI always get is what if they
don't accept my Vitae visual?
(07:32):
What if I can't attach it tothe application?
And my answer to that is make alink out of it and then attach
it to your resume.
And we know, with something likethis, it's so brand new, it's
going to take some maneuveringand it's going to take some
convincing that it actually doeswork.
And it will make it so mucheasier for job seekers to take
(08:02):
advantage of this opportunity.
Because I will tell you, ifpeople were to send a Vitae
visual right now, especiallybecause it's so new, they would
definitely stand out from thepile.
From the pile and that's justcoming from the recruiter side
of me, because I know that Iwould be more in tune with
looking at a video than I woulda piece of paper.
(08:23):
That I've seen 100,000 of them,you know.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
So Absolutely, and
we're also used to watching
short form video all day.
You know like TikTok is sopopular.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I meanit's definitely going to get you
noticed, so I love that Forsure.
Yeah, so tell me, if there issomeone listening who has big
(08:48):
dreams and has been thinkingabout starting a business, what
advice would you give them?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Well, I'm a faith,
I'm very strong on my faith.
So I would say be faithful andbe kind to yourself.
Just know that doing the workand let let the rest happened
happen.
I think that it's true destinythat we have.
All you know, we're oftencoining the gifts that we have,
(09:15):
but we don't really know whatkinds of gifts and other gifts
that we might have.
And we may know, but we'rescared to test them out.
I would say just do it, just doit, start it.
It doesn't matter how long ittakes Heck, it's taken me seven,
eight years to finally get itout there but what I do know is
(09:37):
that it will work.
I'm going to do the work andlet him do the rest.
And that's where I'm at and Isay go for it.
I love that.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Just do it, and I
love that you said be kind to
yourself, Be kind to yourself.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yes, I have this
thing where I did this research
on all of these very biginnovators like the Facebook,
the Mark Zerbos.
You know all of those peopleand what I've learned about them
is that they all failed, andthey failed horribly, miserably,
many times before they got itright.
(10:15):
And that's the part where youhave to say I forgive myself,
let me start over.
And the time that you need tobe kind to yourself and that's
where that came from is becauseI've had many mistakes that I've
made throughout this entireprocess, but I've forgiven
myself because I know that if Idon't, then it would never
(10:37):
happen and all those good thingsthat I know that Vitae Visual
will be to other people nobodywill get to see that.
So, I have to continue onforgive myself and keep moving.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Such a great lesson.
Thank you for sharing that.
Thank you.
So what is something that youwish the listeners?
And so let's break it down.
Let's say a job seeker, what issomething that you wish the
listeners, and so let's break itdown.
Let's say a job seeker.
Let's say a job seeker islistening.
What do you wish they knewabout your business?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
I wish that they knew
its purpose.
Its purpose is to ensure thatpeople aren't discriminated
against.
And I'll just be honest withyou.
I've seen all kinds of thingsthat happen to resumes just
because of somebody's name ontheir resume, just because of
where they lived or where theygot their degree, might not be
prestigious enough, and I'veseen exes and resumes be pushed
(11:34):
aside.
So its purpose is to show thehuman behind the resume.
We are, we are people, thatlittle piece of paper that
you've only spent seven secondson, that is our ticket, like our
resumes are our ticket to ourlivelihood and to our quality of
life.
And this one ticket, this oneresume, we're putting all our
efforts into and we're and it'sonly being seen seven for seven
(11:57):
seconds and that's dishearteningwhen you think about that, um.
And so sometimes your name andyour address and your you know
your, where you got your degreecan even keep you from the seven
seconds point um.
So I like to know, I would likefor people, job seekers, to
know that your Vitae, Visual, video, resume, we're going to
(12:17):
capture the best human part ofyou and that is what's going to
be on display and that is whatis going to engage the employers
.
They're not going to thinkabout your name.
They're not going to thinkabout the fact that you've got
gaps in your resume because youare a stay-at-home mom.
None of that really matters.
What matters is I'm a human andI have skills and I have assets
that I can present to you, andwe're going to show the best
(12:39):
side of you.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
I love it.
Such a gift to job seekers, this is truly Thank you.
So let's flip it.
And what is something that youwish an employer who's hiring
knew about your business?
Speaker 3 (12:55):
I would like for them
.
Well, first, I'd like for themto know that our subscriptions
are free right now.
It's a thirteen hundred dollarvalue per year and we're giving
them away for free.
It is our introductory offer.
It is convenient.
Vitae Visual, the process isconvenient.
You would register, you wouldget your own dashboard, you're
(13:17):
able to post jobs within oursystem and our clients are able
to apply for those jobs usingVitae Visual and their profile
information.
Their profile information alsoincludes an attachment to their
resume, if they so choose toupload their resume.
So you'll be able to do all ofthose great things.
There's an administrativefunction in there so that you
can keep up with the people thatyou've selected, the ones that
(13:39):
you wanna bypass.
It's a wonderful, wonderfulsoftware system and guess what?
You can do it at your leisure.
You can be on the beachsomewhere and says, you know, I
kind of need an administrativeassistant.
You log in, you type inadministrative assistant in the
search bar.
It's going to bring you allthose Vitae Visual up of people
looking for that position andyou can just look through them.
(14:00):
It is not only convenient, butit's going to save you time and
labor costs, because all thethings that it takes and all the
effort and money and time thatit takes just to get the hiring
done, that whole process, fromthe calling in to making the
schedules and all of that.
You are getting to see theresume, see the person, the
(14:21):
characteristics, their passion, and you're able to get see that
in a convenient time wheneveryou want to.
It is literally like having theinterview and seeing the resume
all in one.
So the convenience of it isjust, it's hands down.
I think it's the best thing everand I'm only saying that from
(14:45):
the recruiting part, not thebusinesses who who really want
to, because I will just say, nine times out of 10, the only
reason why companies call you infor interviews because they
want to see thosecharacteristics, they want to
see the passion and thepersonality.
But they get to see that all inone in a two and a half minute
(15:05):
video.
So you know it is.
It is a wonderful, wonderfultool for any business, no matter
if it's a small business or alarge business.
Free registration and you getto.
You get to use this tool foryour own benefit and it would be
cost saving, labor saving andyou can do it whenever you want
(15:27):
to.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Amazing.
Well, thank you for that offerfor our listener, business
owners of the free registration.
That's a really great deal Ilove it.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Well, so if the
listeners, whether they're a
business owner or a job seeker,if they want to connect with you
, learn more from you, where canthey find you?
